Just to point out that if you do not have the 'tick' at the bottom of Visual Studio Code to build the file, you need to install the Visual Studio extension "PlatformIO". Once the extension finishes installing restart VSCode.
Also becareful with the recent silent chip changes from creality going from STM to GD. Since this builds the STM firmware not the GD firmware for more recent makes of the printer. Due to a 'shortage' of STM chips.
Double check your LCD is actually DWIN or DACAI. If your LCD has a barcode, the same as in this video it's DWIN. If it has a sticker with a blue circle, its DACAI.
TLDR; You don't have the tick build option? Download PlatformIO extension in VScode. Check that your MCU chip is STM not GD. Don't install DWIN LCD firmware on DACAI LCD.

Thanks EoT, I always like the channel for a fairly easy to follow but not too basic coverage of Ender 3v2 upgrades etc. Like you, it isn't so much about the printer not working, its more that I just cannot leave it alone. This hobby for me is a learning process because quite frankly, one can only print so many PLA skulls and Ender 3 parts before wanting to take the printer to the next level. This means different filament (many of which seem to be frustrating in their complexity to get to print without artefacts) , hotter hot ends, direct driving extruders and new firmware. I want to see if the Ender can print some of the more difficult filaments (I think it can) like nylon, TPU, carbon fiber, PEEK, molten lava etc. I started out 3D printing almost 10 years ago with a printer called a Robox but was quickly disappointed and in the end this sturdy but pricey small bed enclosed printer which had some great features like USB connection to a PC just broke and I was fed up with 3D printing for years. THen along came the Ender 3. It is coming close to realising what 3D printing is about and I see a lot of what the pundits were saying about print the whole gaff or whatever becoming a reality through this model (as in the modifiable ecosystem exemplified in the creality) . IN the meantime I wish I could just print ABS as I have reels of the stuff i never used but it seems to have gone out of style in 2022.
I don't have the checkmark at the bottom that you clicked to compile.
If I remember, you have to follow the steps from 4:57 exactly, if you open the firmware differently it doesn't have the check mark.
Thank for the video! Found your channel while doing this and your video was tremendously helpful! For my install, booting the printer up after doing just the LCD upgrade made the screen appear kind of glitchy. After I put the mainboard firmware update on the MicroSD card and inserted that and restarted the printer, it booted up correctly. The UI does look a little different now, but everything seems to be working. Thank you!
When I change the lines of code it gives me errors and won't allow me to compile. I am in tech but have never used C. I'm wondering if it's an extension in VS Code that is giving me the issue. Anyone else have this problem?
Have you installed platform io and Marlin auto build?
i did the same procedure but for an ender 3 pro, thanks a lot for this video, i wanted to upgrade my machine a long time ago and i´ve searched everywhere for a simple yet efficient video like this, thanks a lot jim u truly are the best!
Jim, Good video. Tim, TH3D has always been a big help with making Marlin easy to work with. I have Klipper running on all of my printers and like the features in it, especially the ease of editing the configuration with out having to recompile and re-flash.

So I just spent 2 hours trying to update the firmware. Your video is good, except it does not make a distinction between the "DWIN" Lcd and the "DACAI" Lcd. It would be helpful if you put a disclosure at the beginning of the video.. I have my printer all torn apart, very frustrating.. Could of stopped at step one if it was not the correct LCD.
I'm on like 3 hours trying this over and over I cannot find clear cut videos about how to update the firmware on this printer it is causing me so many issues.

does not work for me... maybe the video is too old? i updated the screen, but it looks catastrofic now. text is not clear written... and this visual studio, does not have the play button as shown in the video... im desperate
Would this work if I have a cr touch installed or is there extra steps in configuring the firmware to do? I'm having problems with the stock creality firmware
i am having extremely high amounts of troubles with my 3d printer. is there any way to get any assistance i was printing before but now it wont extrude filament and i have an all metal extruder and new stepper motor i tried to reflash my firmware but it keeps reverting back to the original marlin screen and wont flash the screen at all to get that look :( please help
Unfortunately this did not work, the LCD updated with blank icons, and upon updating the board the display just stays blank.
Any idea how to solve the Rev 1.4 LCD board? Seems to be a different setup for the DWIN folder
Interesting video. I have already done that before, but I prefered the firmware by Jyers because there are many interesting options, and I can customize almost entirely my Ender-3v2.
There are also more explicit icons for the screen and the text has a better resolution. You can also use different colours for the different items on the screen.

hahaha I do have and purchase their products and I also feature videos like this to help people with an easy firmware upgrade, etc. The funny thing is that I have never collect a check or money from them. Any affiliate money I see from TH3D I ask for in Store Credit, so that I can purchase more parts, upgrades etc. It supports small business and I get to play with new things. It's a win/win!
@@TheEdgeofTech Would LOVE to see you try Jyers and work with TH3D to compile a release that allows you to use Jyers and the EZABL. So many great features in Jyers that I miss since I installed my EZABL. Some of them are just bells and whistles, but the ability to abort a print from the screen on the Ender is sorely missed in the TH3D firmware.
How on earth do I get rid of the LCD firmware ,mine came with a crap UI and now it wont let me change the LCD firmware

I have never used visual studio and then after installation i was missing compile button. Then when i installed CMake extension it says "unable to find compilation informatoin for file" and another error "Is it installed or settings contain the correct path (cmake.cmakePath)?" So im stuck there.
In visual studio coder, the left hand side there’s an extensions tab. Search and install “Platform.io IDE” then you should have that check mark at the bottom.

I had flashed my new Ender firmware to a sd card and place it in the board (v4.2.2) and boot the printer but it is not flashing but now the board is responding . Can you help me with it please 🙏

I recently upgraded my ender 3 to the ender extender 400x400. I used the TH3D guide from this video to compile my firmware. Super easy to do if you follow along with this video. Only Issue I have is getting the firmware to understand my (X, Y, Z) offsets for my Bl touch. currently my probe misses the bed on the Left side of the build plate. I changed line 186 to read #define NOZZLE_TO_PROBE_OFFSET ( -45, -6, 0) however that didn't change my offsets from the default configuration. Any one know a solution to this issue?

I have no "PIO" dropdown within Visual Studio Code - prior to that, I also did not have the check-box option on the bottom left of my interface. Running this on Windows 10. Any ideas?
You need to install the platformio extension in vscode
So what improvements do the firmware make beside a cool splash screen?
Quicker, easier to use, added features if you want them, not buggy like the stock firmware, etc.

I had done, the machine's firmware before doing the screen and the new LCD firmware will not render the correct icon. What can I do?

@@TheEdgeofTech it shows the creality logo at the beginning, but it never turns orange and the screen glitches then when I move the knob it just goes back to the default icons but with the new menu settings

I followed LCD firmware, waited 30+ sec after seeing orange color, power off. Power on. Did not see the TH3D logo. What should I do? Flashed FAT32, 4096 bytes. I placed DWIN_SET into the file for Ender3V2 4.2.2 at 256K, my cpu is at RCT6. I didn't place the firmware with the DWIN_SET. Is this what I should do to flash LCD?
I formatted, not "quick format" flash card. Followed the steps. Saw blue 10-15 sec --> orange 1+ min --> power off --> removed sd card --> power on --> still shows creality logo --> fonts are partially visible/ shows about 25% of the original words. Need help!

@@EduardoPerez-wl4yp had to change the circuit board. It's been a while but I think it was because the original board was fried somehow.
This only works on a DWIN LCD and NOT the DACAI LCD. You never mentioned this on your video and as a result I now have a display that is corrupted!!!! I've tried to flash other firmware versions but none of them will replace this one. Can you please advise what I can do to get the display back to an older version?????? Currently I cannot use my printer thanks to your misinformation

I found BLTouch further down the list. It does ask what kind of connector your using. Mine is 5 pin.
@@TheEdgeofTech Couldn't get the bltough to work with the compiled firmware so was going to go back to stock firmware but Tim Patton mentioned I had to let it know if I was using a 5 pin so gonna try that.

I have the DACAI LCD, and followed your instructions to the T, on 1/17/2023. The screen is now useless. I made the mistake of NOT reading all of the comments on your video, and now it is corrupt!! I like your video, and the step-by-step approach you take, but that doesn't get my Ender 3 V2 NEO up and running. Please post a video of exactly how to return to a working LCD - I don't read Chinese.
*NOTE: If you're V2 NEO, has the DECAI LCD -- DO NOT copy the DWIN_SET file to the MSD card -- Instead, OPEN the DWIN_SET file, and copy over only the PRIVATE folder. This will prevent the LCD from being corrupted, and it will work correctly, once restarted. Also, when I flashed my LCD, instead of seeing solid color blue and orange panels, it was only blue, with text scrolling from right to left, with a progress bar on the left-hand side...

Probably, but this allows you to customize settings if you want and get that .bin file.
I'm not experienced enough to handle that being 69 years old the easier the better
