Just when you think everything was over, Davy Jones somehow makes a return and we, the audience are left with no follow up on what comes after that. What an abrupt way to end the POTC films.
The POTC films ended in 2007.
The POTC films never began.
Disney never existed...
They PLANNED a reboot of sorts, gender-swapping Jack Sparrow, but really, they should just write the character out of the franchise and focus on the Turners. Sure, they can introduce a new character (let's see Captain Red in the films), but let's get a follow-up on that cliffhanger! I'd like to see Captain Turner go up against Davy Jones again! Explain how he's back!

His name was David Bailey. You know, from one side I feel sad for his death, but for other side I'm happy that we would never seen his parrot again, because parrots scare me. But yeah, it's terrible. More terrible than Johnny Depp's resignation to the franchise.

We got the crap title. Dead men tell no tails sounds way better.
1) Jack got the compass from Tía Dalma/Calypso on behalf of Captain Morgan (the pirate captain from this movie's flashback). When Morgan died, he gave the compass to Jack.
2) In the past, every time Jack gave away the compass was part of his plan and had the intention of always getting it back.
In this movie, however, he gave away the compass for a bottle of rum, with no intention of getting it back. Then, the compass felt "betrayed" and released Jack's greatest fear: Salazar, the pirate hunter.
No, she gave it to Jack hmself, and wasn't cursed.

She gave the compass to Jack for him to give it to Captain Morgan. After Morgan died, the compass became Jack's possesion.
It's never stated in the first 4 movies that the compass wasn't cursed (I mean, it's a magical compass, so why wouldn't it be?), so it doesn't retcon anything.
And in the past he never really completely gave it away. It was either stolen or borrowed no?

So bummed that we’re probably not getting another with the original cast, especially with the tease of Davy Jones returning. As much as I think Margot Robbie is awesome, she’s not the best replacement for Depp and I can’t see the franchise doing well without him.
Honestly, this seemed like a good send-off to Captain Sparrow. People say he was wasted in this film (in terms of where he fit in the story). It looked as though they typecasted Depp. We need to focus on the Turners, now. Davy Jones is back, but why and how? Pirates 6 could've answered that question. But no. Disney just wants to reboot Pirates and gender-swap the character of Captain Jack Sparrow. Here's an idea, though! Start working on Pirates 6 and cast Margot Robbie as a new character instead of wasting her in a gender-swapped version of an already existing character! Let's see Captain Red in the films! Bring Pintel and Ragetti back! Let's see what they've been up to!

My theory about everything with Davy Jones is that because the Trident was destroyed Will was freed from being bound to the Dutchman, but the Dutchman itself still exists and as we all know, The Dutchman must have a captain so the previous captain was resurrected to serve once again.
That’s what I’m thinking so Part 6 should focus on that.
yeah, that was actually confirmed/made canon in the Sea Of Thieves crossover.
That was my thought too, because the Dutchman must ferry Souls so it will always exist and need a Captain.
Jones was TASKED with ferrying the souls, but whoever Stabbed his heart would be CURSED to take his place.

Now that I think about it... Barbossa could still technically be alive. I mean- he IS constantly kept alive by Calipso afterall.

The compass shows you what you want the most, but if you "abandon" it (ie. give it away without the intention of getting it back or in an unfair trade), then it unleashes what you fear the most. When Jack gave it away in the past, he was just lending it, but always intended to get it back. Jack's captain passed it on to a successor. This time, he was "done" with it, so it summoned what he feared the most, which was Salazar. Salazar knew Jack feared him the most, hence why he wanted the compass.
A human head can remained unconscious after decapitation for up to 12 seconds.
Keelhauling is a barbaric form of execution. You're tied up and thrown overboard, but remain attached by a rope so you drag on the underside of the ship where the barnacles will tears you apart until you drown.
The budget for this movie was $230-320 million.
The Black nPearl is faster than any other ship, but Salazar's ship is supernatural ghost ships that's just an empty husk, so it's not weighed down by anything and can just move with the wind and tide unhindered, so naturally it's going to be faster.
Not ALL curses are gone, only the curses of the sea. So there's still more that can be done with other curses. And technically, the curse from the first movie wasn't a curse of the sea, it was a cursed treasure that just happened to effect pirates. Will's curse was of the sea, as was Salazar's, hence why those were lifted.
So how do you explain Davy Jones back from the dead?
The bank going through the streets wasn’t CGI. They had put wheels and an engine in it and drove with it through

The only redeeming aspect of this film, Jack calling Barbossa, Hector! :(
The guy in charge of this movie didn't do his research. They fudged up the compass origin as Calypso gave Jack the compass, not a random pirate captain. Also this movie was Disney ruining Jack Sparrow and taking advantage of Depp being miserable at that point in his life. Kinda fitting Jack says whats next is beyond the horizon. I take that as foreshadowing that whats next for Depp was a new chapter in life.
To Hector Barbossa, a true Pirate, awlays in our hearts
35:48 Some parents do that because they don't care about their children (not many but there are still some). Some leave their children in places like that because they can't afford to take care of them by themselves.
Not sure for which reason Angelica was left in the convent, but I think Barbossa did leave Carina at the home because he figured he couldn't raise a child and figured she'd have a better chance there - especially with those rubies to sell when she got older.
I always figured that Jack's bad luck was due to Angelica when she found the voodoo doll of him in the end credits of the fourth movie. Rather than outright kill him she decided to take his legacy away from him by giving him bad luck till his reward money was brought down to 5 pounds, with only a handful of people who remembered his adventures and achievements as opposed to her father who was dead but would live on in legend as one of the most famous or infamous pirates the world had ever known.
I kept imagining her and the Captain Salazar meeting each other later in the sixth movie, she being rescued the captain having been brought back from the dead somehow, working together to end Jack Sparrow.
Working together because of a shared enemy of course, hating each other on sight since she's a pirate woman and since he's a pirate-hunter, so that their dialogue would be chiefly insulting each other but in a way that almost sounded like they were flirting with each other (I think the actors were married around the time this movie came out).
So, about the compass, the curse lifted when jack "betrayed" the compass, merely allowing someone else to use it isn't betrayal. However, when jack gave the compass away just for a drink, it was taken as "betraying" said compass.
15:04 So, if he fully gave it away their curse is broken. He has let people borrow his compass before, but that's borrowing. He still owned the compass but let someone else use it. But now that he gave it up, the curse of Salazar has been broken.
I agree. If you ignore the end credits scene, this movie is a great ending to the franchise.

The wicked wench is the black pearl, Davey Jones brought it back from the bottom of the ocean after it was sunk and jack renamed it the black pearl, that's why he was in debt with Davey Jones
This movie has retconned some stuff from the previous films, Tim, so it's best just to go along with it because they mostly don't make any sense at all.

List of people who should have died when the trident broke.
1. Davy Jones: He died when his heart got stabbed by Will in the third. There is no reason for him to be still alive.
2. Will: let's remember that his heart should still be in the chest. He would have died instantly when the trident exploded, since he has no heart in "his chest".
3. Salazar and his crew: They were already dead when the triangle cursed them. As the trident broke, they should have returned as corpses and not as living beings...

When Jack exchanged the compass for the bottle, that’s when the curse was broken. When jack gave the compass to his friends he always had it back because he never gave it with the propose of getting rid of It. That’s is why the curse didn’t broke before

The little tease of Davy Jones I like could be a good setup for Part 6. What this movie did do that I liked was show everyone as old they been around this block few times.
If it was to happen, i think he should turn into his human form for a majority to make it more interesting rather than what we have already seen, that could be the case as his barnacles were falling off in the nightmare. It also could be a prequel version of him. I think if they bring him back they should end the film with him in that form, with a normal lifespan and a open mind.

Barbosa died and was brought back by Calypso a witch and Jack was stuck in Jones locker there’s no more locker no more witch and they state Calypso could only bring back people not from the locker.

Now that Johnny Depp's name has been cleared, I think this Franchise should do a final hurrah like in No Way Home, original cast returning and all lol one final outing for the series.

I wasn't really fond of how they treated Jack Sparrow's character in this movie. And the ghost design, I honestly feel could have been done better; one example being the Men in the Mountains from The Lord of the Rings; transparent, ghostly, alternating between living and dead appearance. But this movie also completely undoes previous established lore, and leaves us with more questions unanswered than answered, such as how Marty, Murtogg and Mulroy survived Blackbeard's attack on the Black Pearl, how did Will wind up cursed if he never broke the purpose of the Flying Dutchman, is Bootstrap Bill cursed again, what became of Philip and Syrena from the last movie, etc.
-Jack had already found the Trident of Poseidon in his teenage years (read the Jack Sparrow series) and used it to free the merfolk from its influence, granting them their freedom after they were enslaved to Poseidon, the Blue Tail mermaids, and a cursed pirate named Torrents.
-In Dead Man's Chest, Tia Dalma asked why the Compass Jack had bartered from her couldn't lead him to the key. There was a comic showing how Jack got the Compass from Tia Dalma. But here, we're seeing that Jack got the Compass from Morgan.
-Jack had gotten the Wicked Wench (the ship that would become the Black Pearl) from Beckett when he served in the East India Trading Company. Yet we're seeing him get the ship as well from Morgan.
-They say to never betray the Compass by giving it away or it will unleash your worst fears. 1) How many times has Jack given away the Compass in this series? 2) How was Salazar his worst fear when he had completely forgotten about him after all these years? Wouldn't it make more sense to have Davy Jones return instead of Salazar? 3) How did Salazar know about Jack and the Compass? 4) How in the blazes did the Compass destroy the Devil's Triangle?
This movie is filled, absolutely FILLED to the brim with Plotholes, Retcons, and an uninteresting and horrible. The only 1 good thing is that it ends Barbossa's story, making him truly a total badass that despite all his negative features and actions, at the end of the day was willing to die to protect that which is most important to him. His child.

IIRC, M. Guillotin created his eponymous device as a more humane method of execution so it is arguably the best choice if you don’t have plot armour.
There's nothing humane about a blade chopping your head off.
@@SeanWheeler100 His logic, as I understand it, was that existing methods of execution were unreliable and caused more suffering than they needed to if the victim did not die instantly; human executioners would sometimes need multiple strikes to kill the victim, and hanging did not always break the victim’s neck. Therefore, a machine that could consistently kill the victim on the first try would eliminate the extra suffering from the botched attempts. I freely admit that the jump from “Executing people is causing unnecessary suffering!” to proposing a more efficient method instead of opposing the concept of capital punishment itself seems absurd, particularly for a doctor of medicine like Guillotin.
ok so. There's a lot of complaints from fans about the "giving away the compass" thing, but the way I see it is that in the past, Jack allowed other people to use it or had it stolen from him, but he never GAVE UP on it, or what it symbolizes.
In the first movie, Jack says "What the Black Pearl really is, is freedom." The compass is also a symbol, of the desire for something more in life, the desire for adventure, the very spirit of the whole story overall. Even when Jack lost or gave it to other people, he never lost that spirit UNTIL NOW.
UNTIL NOW, when he entirely gives up on everything after losing his ship and crew, and trades it away for a bottle of rum, with no intention of taking it back.
That's why it's different this time.
(There's also some complaints about the origins of the compass being retconned, but TRECHNICALLY that story was only told in the novel The Price Of Freedom, which isn't canon in the movie universe. You can't retcon something that never happened.)
In Previous time the compass was not in his possession it was either taken away from him by force/someone stole it or he lent it to someone, not betray the compass. The Compass will get even with jack with something else, by showing him his most greatest fear or something close to it.
In case you're wondering, the man playing Jack's uncle is none other than Paul McCartney from 'The Beatles'. They're singing 'Maggie May' a song about a prostitute that was on the Beatles last album, and wI think as also the first song Paul heard John sing when they first met in Liverpool as teenagers (I think John was already drunk)
Johnny Depp will not return if there should be a Pirates of the Carribean 6. Disney will always remember the day they almost made a next franchise without Captain Jack Sparrow.
I honestly hate it when they change film names based on regions. This was renamed as Salazar's Revenge In the UK. Also Zootopia was Zootropolis in UK aswell. The USA names are far better 🤣

I think the reason that the curse activated now is because in the past when Jack gave away the compass he planned to get it back. This time Jack didn't plan on getting it back as he was sick of it reminding him what he wants but can't have.
So this time he betrayed the compass, that's why the curse activated.

TimotheeReacts pirates of the Caribbean dead men tell no tale is my absolutely favorites of the 5 movies my second absolutely favorite is at the world’s end but dead men tell no tell it’s more better because the emotions of the scenes of we found the connection between Carina and Barbossa that is incredible I cried so much of the scene of Barbossa death in dead men tell no tale (not in the malediction curse of the black Pearl because he deserves it) and I cried so much to in the scene of the reunion of Henry, will and Elizabeth
If there were more movies to come I would've thought that it meant that Davy Jones or someone in a similar situation to him would have come for Henry - he broke Poseidon's trident and undid all the curses of the sea, meaning he broke his father's curse but may very likely have caused a lot of trouble for others. The natural verdict to me would've been that he had to serve a ten year shift on the Dutchman - third Turner in a row.
Oddly enough the thought gets me thinking: "Oh don't fuss, the ten years will go by before you've even noticed one has gone"

Will and Elizabeth having a son is not something that came from this movie. They’re are post credit scenes at the end of each movie and the one for the third one is probably the most important one where it’s 10 years after the events of at worlds end and it revealed that they had a son and you see will come back to see them after his first 10 years as captain. So the fourth film and this one take place waaay later
They were released because Jack gave up the compass in the past he has lent it to others but he's always retrieved it

I have a theory that the Trident hold the curses of the unnatural, the man made curses, and thats why when it breaks, those such curses are gone, it would explain why Calypso's curse was ended, and Salazar's curse was ended. The natural curses are still out and about, the ones that were made by nature itself to those who were unfortunate enough to acquire them. And maybe that is where Pirates 6 where have fallen into place, the natural curses are still existing.
Re Barbossa - I suppose death can only be withheld for so long
A lot of people actually wondered why the curse wasn't lifted before. The thing about the curse most people missed is, Jack would have had to give the compass away WITHOUT the intention of getting it back at all. All those previous times, he merely lended it or was forced to temporarely give away the compass as a pawn.
And in case you wondered how the compass is related to Salazar's curse; the curse of the compass is to send the owner's worst fear after them, should it be given away. Jack's worst fear was Salazar

Great reaction! As far as a POTC reboot, I don’t mind if they decide to make the main character a female or telling another pirate’s story. I just hope in it somewhere we can get a proper closure for Captain Jack Sparrow. I mean I would like to possibly have an on screen death with him, or what they can at least do to keep it going is maybe have the new pirate to be like either a relative of his or someone who he had personally mentored and looked after. At least would like her to say something about the compass like “It belonged to my….” Or “It was passed down to me from my….” Either way, it’s always good to see a swashbuckling film. I highly recommend Cutthroat Island with Geena Davis. 🏴☠️
Jack Sparrow is being gender-swapped for the supposed reboot, and Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn in the DCEU) was considered for the role.
Henry William Swann Turner, young prince of the seas - he has all of his mothers stubbornness as well as her brown hair with flecks of gold in it, and all of his father's loyalty to those he cares about as well as his dark eyes.
The combination leaves me thinking - yeah, that's bound to get him killed.
Sad to think after this movie, jack sparrow was killed off screen by an evil and jealous sea witch =(

They were going for power rather than for precision. Makes more sense in a way that the trident wouldn't be symmetrical.
Though that does get me thinking - what do you think Poseidon would do to them if he found out HIS trident was broken?

I really love the back story at the beginning of the movie, really good back story for the character. Very amazing and cool.
Didn’t like the guy that played Will and Elizabeth son small nit pick also didn’t like that they killed Barbosa again like in the first film it made sense but in this one they did the stupid sacrifice thing I hated it. Maybe with that tease of Davy Jones at the end they can go back to the locker and save Barbosa.
Well there might be a 6th pirates movie but eh we’ll see

this one did pretty well with the story, also love the focus on Barbossa, we got pretty cool villains and the finale was epic :) the comedy was pretty good too :) again, not as good as the first trilogy, but still better than the 4th one :D since Johnny Depp aint doing any more Pirates movies this is the perfect way to end it, cleansed of all the curses :)
