    I love how Barbossa's sacrifice here is a complete mirror to Blackbeard in the previous movie, Barbossa readily sacrifices himself for his daughter despite having known her for barely any time at all, while Blackbeard is fully prepared to sacrifice his daughter for his own sake without hesitation.

      Blackbeard in the previous movie grabbed the goblet believing it to contain the mermaid tear to become immortal, saving his life and sacrificing his "Daughter" but Jack pulls a switcheroo and he dies, he doesn't sacrifice himself. Also his "daughter" in the movie, isn't his daughter at all that entire thing was a lie so that she could travel with him in search of the fountain of youth.

    I believe the post-credits scene is Davy Jones returning, the Dutchman needs a captain. It plays like Will's nightmare but the barnacles suggest it's real. If this film came right after 3, it would have been received better I think. The vibe for 4 was a lot different and with half the original cast missing it just didn't land with a lot of people - personally I enjoyed it, though it did highlight how much having pirate lords in 3 kind of messed up the potential for a follow on. After all surely Blackbeard, arguably the most infamous pirate in history, should have had a place on the Brethren Court? Nevertheless, I loved this film. I have a small shred of hope that the series can be revived for one more film at least, but not without Johnny Depp - he HAS to be the first name on the cast list, followed by Bill Nighy reprising his role as Davy Jones. You can't tease him at the end like that and then quit making them, I need more Davy Jones.

      Sure he may be the most infamous pirate in history, though he was also well known for have actually killed near to no one. I've always been a pirate fan. It's funny that the movies both old and new use variations of the real people and ships. There's a movie called the Black Swan, a real ship called The Sparrow captained by Calico Jack. And a lady pirate captain with red hair that hailed from Ireland. I've forgotten her moniker.

      More than likely it was Calypso that brought back Davy. The Dutchman must always have a captain and since Will is no longer tied to the ship, it makes sense that she would bring back the very person she first put in charge of the ship and the duty of ferrying souls: Davy Jones himself.

    • @arkez35
      @arkez35 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @spicysnowman8886 - I thought more about it and I realized that Calypso theory is wrong. The trident held all of the curses of the sea within it, including that of the Dutchman. Which means that even though Calypso may have put Davy in charge of it, the power to do so was never hers to begin with. Her power came from someone else, but who? The very person who own and created trident in the first place: Poseidon.
      Now if I was Poseidon, and not only was your family involved in the release of Calypso, but was involved in taking the Dutchman from Davy Jones, breaking every curse of the sea that I created, and destroyed my property on top of that, I would want your head for that. And I would send someone who not only knows you, but the one person to have technical bested you: Davy Jones himself.
      Because in "At Worlds End" Davy dealt a mortal blow to Will that would have killed him if not for Jack's intervention. Nobody else, not Barbosa, not Jack, nobody had actually beaten Will in straight combat and dealt him a blow like that except Davy. So it makes sense to send Jones after Will and his family. And Poseidon could easily restore Davy Jones back to full power since he seems to have been the creator of the curses powers to begin with.

    I think the flaws of this movie are the new characters who have to carry the movie but we don't really care about them and also Johnny, I believe to have read he had the hardest time in his relationship with Amber during filming and was drunk or not in, you can see him being not interested in the movie anymore. We also love to see Jacks skills and natural humour he had in the first trilogy, especially first movie, where he also was significant to the plot, but his character here turned to a drunk man with few jokes anyone could do. The best time - for me - is always Jack interacting with Barbossa, we also got too little of that in this one.
    Anyways, before the Disney backlash, there was supposed to be another movie, thus the post credits scene and I think a movie with Jack and his son (he has do have some kids somewhere :D ) would be great, but it's over, so let's just appreciate Johnny for his marvellous portrayal of this character :3

    I'm glad you enjoyed this movie and the entire franchise. I totally agree that you can exclude the 4th one and still feel completely satisfied. I never considered that this movie had intentionally written jokes unlike the other ones that felt natural but you are totally right. When this came out people had mixed opinions about it. The one thing that can't be denied is that the cast a perfect actor for Henry. He looks so much like a good mix between Keira Knightly and Orlando Bloom that its totally believable that he could be their son in real life.
    As a Willabeth shipper growing up I was so happy that they brought those characters back and had the story revolve around their kid. Initially Keira had no intention of coming back to the franchise but during audience testing they got a lot of feedback that the Henry/Will reunion felt hollow without Elizabeth there, especially since her devotion to him was so central to his Dutchman curse. So they got a hold of Keira and she agreed to come back for that scene as a cameo.
    One of the complaints that people had was that it felt like a rehash of the first one with the gimmicks of all the previous villains into one person. Salazar and his crew are cursed with immortality (curse of the black pearl), their ship devours other vessels/the crew look overtaken by the sea (dead mans chest) and they can't step on land (at worlds end). I think its a fair complaint, but I thought as a whole it brought the swashbuckling fun back to the franchise in a way the 4th one didn't and that was slightly lost in the second and third one with it being more mythic based.
    The other complaint that people had is that in this movie Jack wasn't as acrobatic and goofy in his getaway scenes. To me that's kinda a stupid thing to be annoyed by because it makes sense in real life and in universe. Johnny Depp was 54 when the movie came out so naturally he wouldn't be able to do that type of stunt work.
    Second, its entirely possible that Jack Sparrow is much older than we realize. Lets assume he was 30yrs old at the beginning of the franchise and that a year had passed between the original trilogy. That means by the end of At Worlds End he is 33. Then On Stranger Tides happened some time in the 10 years that Elizabeth and Henry are waiting for Will to return. By the time Dead Men Tell No Tales happens he is at least 43 because Henry has already met his dad. But when Henry tries to find Will a few years has passed which means Henry is 12, which makes Jack 45yrs old. Then we have a 9yr time skip, which means Henry is 21 and Jack is 54yrs old by the time the series ends.
    Can anyone really expect a 54yr old pirate to be swinging around masts and tumbling down a stairwell without getting hurt? At this point, Jack has earned his right to lounge around the Black Pearl drinking as much rum as he wants.

    In every single escape or fight, Jack never hesitates. Combine that with his quick planning and he basically makes his own luck

    HMS Victory's largest anchor would take 260 men 6 hours to raise if it was fully deployed. This ship actually needed 2 trundleheads (the centre piece that spins), one with 14 capstans (the bars people push), another with 12. And 10 people would push each capstan.
