      Agreed. Software isn't just a feature, it is fundamental to the ownership experience. Lag and pinch-to-zoom issues aside (which may be chip related), the amount of information (way too much) and tiny writing on the driver's display speaks volumes about this company re software design.

    The bigger picture is the Chinese new models and its improvements will come to mkt in 2 years instead of 5. So in 5 years they are already 2 models ahead. Tesla against BYD , Zeekr , Xiaomi , Li , Aion , etc. I think it will be a very difficult challenge. The Chinese mkt is also the largest with around 23M cars. And it’s now 50% penetrations, if they reach 80% , it’s game over.

    In my G9 the pinch to zoom is really fast, this one seems sluggish...

    • @savedfaves
      @savedfaves 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The G9 and G6 have different processors (ask GPT) so it may be a hardware issue. I do know, for example, early Lucid Air cars had pinch-to-zoom and sluggish software issue that were fixed ONLY via Lucid fortunately offering existing owners a processor chip upgrade path without the need to buy a whole new car-the right move given the situation.
      Other corporate design culture issues for Xpeng is their propensity for tiny writing and too much display information. Software designers must understand text and icon sizes and touch target sizes, and knowing what to leave out. You cannot learn this on a whim; you need design leaders with decision authority who understand this design philosophy.

    Off cause you always have the EXPENSIVE version to testdrive.... Performance ..... I don't need that (the cheaper edition would be fine enougth for me) . But I wonder if I should buy the G6 - looks like a comfortable good car. But power consumption is quit bad ..... about 24KWH/100km :( OK - Tesla Y is not much better, but comparing to a Hyundai KONA which I drive now (of course much smaller car) 33% more power is a price to pay for the total distanse. Is it worth the extra comfort and space ... perhaps ;)
    NOTE: Now I testdrive an XPeng G6 AWD and it was great!!! Comfortable and quiet car! Unfortunally 512.000NOK is a lot of money I rather would like to buy and Xpeng MONA 03 for 1/2 price ;)

      There is nothing revolutionary about Xpeng. They charge really fast and thats important to some people. Their software is decent, but i dont really understand why its so important. Most use AA/ACP anyway. I was really focused on how fast the car could charge when i was looking, but going through a winter where i were using fast chargers almost exclusively with 35.000km/year in my Polestar 2, i came to realize that sub 30 mins from 10-80% is more than enough.
      Never thought i should say it, but MEB cars from Volkswagen group are actually really good. Their new software works just as it should and their cars are just really good to drive. And i bet you that TCO is about the same, or maybe even better for MEB cars.

Than they always exaggerate eith their range data often the real range is much lower

The video is always about how got chinese cars are. But no real range test avsible on their channels. Maybe they have some reasons for that..😊

    Re efficiency, Why does Bjorn always drive 15km/h over the limits on these challenges? Owners would not normally do this in other countries (get fined) and the Wh/km greatly drops above 100km/h for most cars, 130+ would expect high in-efficiencies from drag. Even to match GPS speed is normally ~5km/h out but not 15, or is he locked in driving style to compare to past challenge times? :\

      Someone who does not understand that kW doesn't matter, the C-Charge rate matters. The 92kWh battery charges with 288kW, that's 3.1C which is why the charging from 10-80% is 20min. A Model Y SR with BYD Blade batteries has a C-Charge rate of 3C and also charges from 10-80% in 20min, a Model Y LR/Performance also has 3C, yet it charges way slower because of the weak charging curve due to limited cooling capabilities and a weak battery management system or battery cell structure.
      The Xpeng will probably have lower degradation that the Model Y LR/Performance due to better thermal stability!

      The Chinese G9 went up to 475kW charging speed, 2 years ago already, if you bought it with that option in China. And China actually has a few charging stalls (some exploited by Xpeng themselves) that can reach that speed.
      Kind of a shame that they didn't release the option in the EU. Would have been fun to obliterate the competition when it comes to charging speed although it would be practically pretty useless due to our slower charging infrastructure.

      A Porsche Taycan charges with 320-325kW peak and demands 300kW from the charger until 60% SoC. It has a C-Charge rate of 3.2C, very close to the values mentioned above. Taycan charges from 10-80% in 18min, slightly faster due to a slightly increased max C-charge rate, but mainly because of better themal management and BMS which enable the battery to take in high charge rate for wider SoC ranges. Degradation will be quite the same in all of these (except that the BYD LFP battery generally has more degradation buffer due to higher number of charge cycles).
