The Thai language developed from the Khmer (Palava) language of India by King Ramkhamhaeng in 1829, a total of approximately 841 years in the present day. The Khmer language also developed from the Khmer language. By Phra Achan Pan Panyasilo. He came to be ordained to study in Thailand. and then converted the Khmer language into Khmer During the reign of King Rama IV. The age of the Khmer language is now approximately 280 years.

The ancient Khmer people were slaves of Siam throughout the 400-year period under the rule of Siam. And fully received the culture from Siam and another thing, the current Khmer people including the Khmer scholars themselves will rewrite their own history. Because most knowledgeable Khmer people, 99% in the country, have all been killed since the Khmer Rouge era, genocide. There were more than 3 million deaths in that era being killed alive. 🐃🐃 If those people were alive today they should be about 40 years old or older, so the new generation and the current Khmer people are stupid and don't know the history of their own nation well enough. Those who were not killed would flee and seek asylum in Europe and America with Thailand helping them in every way to take refuge in the refugee camps along the Thai-Khmer border, where at present many traces of history remain in Thailand. 👿👿 So it's no wonder why new generation of Khmer people are so stupid without proper knowledge. Colonel in English is pronounced “kernal” even though it defies modern English pronunciation rules. We drop the final រ for all words but keep the writing the same - Reamkerti is still spelled រាមកេរ្តិ៍ but we just read as Reamke.
I think it’s more like a dialectal speech upon geographical area. Even present day, the Phnom Penh and other south region will mostly flatten the word and omitting រ in everyday speaking while most of northern speakers retain រ as the official pronunciation. But for the case of ending រ, all official pronunciation never voice it.

What amazes me the most is the depth of your knowledge and the ability to distinguish the origins of words. But there is a record in the archives of Thailand as well, saying that Ayutthaya must go to suppress "Khmer defector" (the betrayed Khmer)
🙏🙏Thank you Mr. Stuart Jay Raj for the very useful linguistic information for me. I'm Spanish and I also study Thai and Khmer culture as well as Southeast Asia. It made me very aware of the attitude of the Khmer people. The Khmer people of today are people who do not know their own language well enough and do not know the history of their own nation. If you study history deeply will make you know the origin and place of the Khmer race. ☹☹ 😥😥Thai-KHOM and Khmer are different languages. Khmer-Cambodia are blunt and copy someone anyway and keep it like that. There is no adjustment, even though it is not perfect with own voice. But to solve the problem of pronunciation instead which shows a lot of intelligence and character to wrote something, pronounced something, totally confused. And it will also refer to the Cambodian educational system that is not well developed. Because knowledgeable Khmer people have been killed by the Khmer Rouge throughout the country. @@kirksulu why !!! We have it too . He siad Khom is khmer Thai Khom script is Thai khmer script . And also Thai doesn’t stole this script from khmer . It just borrowed the script . You should watch to see in his video before .
@@kiro5987 But he said ancient Khmer is not CAMBODIAN. Khmer infact is KHOM originated in south INDIAN. Cambodia never owns it. What part you don’t understand.
5:00 I remember the word “school” in Thai is “โรงเรียน”, I think it’s a combination of 2 Khmer words: โรง = រោង means warehouse or shed and เรียน = រៀន means “study”. But in Khmer we don’t say like that, we use the word “សាលារៀន” (sala rien) which is combination of Pali and Khmer word. Similar logic, we can understand what it means but it’s not what we use daily.
Yes, this is 100% Thai language (sound/pronunciation) written in Khmer script. As a native Khmer speaker, I recognize the letter's shape and a few words, but I cannot read most of the words because it's very different from standard Khmer spelling in Cambodia nowadays. Some orthographic rules are very strange for me, for example we never write subscript (leg) under the vowel like that. This rule uniquely exists in Thai Khom, it doesn't exist in other Abugida scripts as I know because vowels are not independent sign. During ancient time, we could write whatever with pens and palm leaf. One notice is that around 200 years ago similarity between Khmer script and Thai Khom still existed much. But after French colonized Cambodia and they introduced the printing machine. We started to standardize the script and spelling rule, reduced the usage of double/triple consonant words; we keep only some special cases such as "ស្ត្រី" (woman). Meanwhile, the Thai government at that time started to nationalize the language, stop using Khom script in academy. So Khmer script and Thai Khom diverged in different direction until what we have today.
Guy, I commented here to discuss about language knowledge. Please don’t use any discrimination words with me. If you want to play like this, please go to other Cambodian guys. Event I am a Cambodian people, but I’m really bored about cultural dispute between Khmer and Thai. Why don’t we see positive point of cultural similarities: we can have fun together during the same festival, we can share knowledge because we use same script for example, etc. Look at the Chinese and Japanese languages. The script was originated in china, then the Japanese people adopted it to Japanese language. Sometimes Japanese create new words from Chinese characters especially vocabulary used in science, technology, industry; finally those new words enter Chinese language. The same thing happened to Khmer and Thai languages. Thai adopted Khmer script and borrowed some words, then created new words. Sometimes those new words came back to Khmer language. For example the word “សងខាង” (sorng khang) meaning “both sides” is a mixed Thai word สอง = number 2 and Khmer word ខាង = side. This is the evolution of language. Script or words is for sharing free, not for disputing!
Khmer confused about khmer script is old but it is not old, Thai Khom script is old, and khmer copy Thai Khom script to use with khmer language That is why you think khmer script is old😅
Thank you. This is such a good video and Khom Thai language is so beautiful. Unfortunately, I know that most Cambodians wont understand it. Most smart Cambodian people already killed by Polpot. Doesnt matter how many times you say it is a Thai language, Cambodian people will deny, reject, and shut down their brains to accept the truth. They dont want to admit that all (Thai) Sakyants they all put on their bodies are Thai creation, written with Khom-Thai language, and originally invented by Thai monks. This means, they all love and support Thai cultures 😂😂😂😂😂 Khom actually is a word used by Thai people to describe Indian Tamils who brought Chola civilization to Southeast Asia. Khmer people aint exactly Khom people. Khom = Indians. Khmer = Cambodians.
Thank you for the explanation. I got a thai sacred tattoo written in the khom language in Thailand and my Cambodian friend was trying to say that thai copied from Cambodia.

As a Cambodian I really appreciated your video. This is amazing. The history is learnt for the truth about what's going on from the past. Khom-Thai actually it is a different version of writting in Thai language. Most Cambodian they can actually read the similar shapes and they can't understand because it'a not Khmer language. But if anybody who are Khmers and understand thai language actually they can read easily.
The big different in Thai-Khom are about the diactrics. Khmer language is not a tonal language as like Thai language. They don't have many similarity words. like in Thai: Ma shares too many different words. That's why they put these diactric signs into Thai-Khom ่ ้ ๋
Thai-Khom writting is abit simitar to the 100 years ago of Khmer writting which could put the underneath scripts as the basic writting. For example:

🙏🙏Thank you Mr. Stuart Jay Raj for the very useful linguistic information for me. I'm Spanish and I also study Thai and Khmer culture as well as Southeast Asia. It made me very aware of the attitude of the Khmer people. The Khmer people of today are people who do not know their own language well enough and do not know the history of their own nation. If you study history deeply will make you know the origin and place of the Khmer race. ☹☹
😥😥Thai-KHOM and Khmer are different languages. Khmer-Cambodia are blunt and copy someone anyway and keep it like that. There is no adjustment, even though it is not perfect with own voice. But to solve the problem of pronunciation instead which shows a lot of intelligence and character to wrote something, pronounced something, totally confused.
If those people were alive today they should be about 40 years old or older, so the new generation and the current Khmer people are stupid and don't know the history of their own nation well enough. And it will also refer to the Cambodian educational system that is not well developed. Because knowledgeable Khmer people have been killed by the Khmer Rouge throughout the country.
Those who were not killed would flee and seek asylum in Europe and America with Thailand helping them in every way to take refuge in the refugee camps along the Thai-Khmer border, where at present many traces of history remain in Thailand. 👿👿
So it's no wonder why new generation of Khmer people are so stupid without proper knowledge. I don't know what to ask but trying to get evidence from the remains of the old wall at Angkor Wat as an excuse and like to claim the culture of other nations without knowing his own roots at all. KhomThai is the modified ancient Khmer script for writing tonal Thai language …. It’s an obsolete script which no longer use by the modern Thai, because we’ve already developed the modern Thai scripts to the most practical stage, but due to the fact that it was use by the Ayuttaya monks for written Buddhist manuscripts,so today Thai people still used them in the religious ritual related events…
And the Fact that KhomThai was modified since Ayuttaya period to the point that it’s uniquely different from the ancient Angkoean Khmer scripts , it’s interestingly weird that the modern Khmer script became almost identical to it…and the weirdest part is all this linguistic scholars never seem to speculate this☺️
I have also wondered why khmer script use to write Thai khom ended up so familiar with present day khmer script. But for so far as I’ve look through, khmer script has already evolved to almost identical to present day script since the mid and late angkorean period.
@@chheanghakang7715 im not sure if it’s in the same manner as how they found Ayuttaya (Sukhothai)style of Buddha statues made by Khmer locals in Angkor, since Ayuttaya occupied Angkor in 15th century…lots of these artifacts suggested that their arts and culture shifted and transformed drastically from Angkorean Bayon to Siamese dedigns.
@@KenParkpoom-fb7qh Sokhothai(Tai) founded in 1235 A.D and Ayuttaya(Sayam) in 1375 A.D. Ayuttaya conquered Lanna and Sokhothai and became Siam. Before that, those were Khmer territory during Khmer Angkor(Khmer Empire) era. Khmer was rival with that of China during that time but they were worthy allies. The population were Khmer, Mon and Mon-Khmer. Tai were Chinese ethnic minority living in southern China such as in Yunnan province. There were mass exodus of Tai refugees seeking protection in Khmer territory due to wars and Mongols invasion. After a few generations, they became Khmer. During the fall of Khmer Angkor after Khmer-Champa war, Sukhothai fought Khmer for independence whose founders were 2 brothers. Over a century later, Ayuttaya gained its independence from Khmer. Ayuttaya was founded by a Mongol spy(Utong), hired Sayam(dark-skin Khmer), Cham, Javanese and other foreign fighters for this rebellion.
Now, as far as anything of today's Thailand, it has been deviated for over 700 years. What was Khmer has become Thai. Your language is 40% Khmer and other 60% are Tai-Kadai. Does this sum it up for you?
@@chamnap2990 you are so incorrect , Ayuttaya has never been under Angkor….

Ayuttaya happened through the merged of two former Dvaravati kingdoms,
Suphannabhumi(Suphanburi,“X’ian” kingdom(暹國) ) and Lavo( Loburi, “Lorhu”kingdom(羅斛國) as stated clearly in the Chinese record.
These Dvaravati kingdoms were invaded and ruled by the Jenla(Chenla) in 11th century….
After reinforcements by the Tai from the North… they “assimilated” into a hybrid “AustroTai” Siamese…
Eventually with their hybrid combat arts, they fought back their territories and established “Krungthep Dvaravati Sri Ayuttaya”
Please be reminded that …since the rise of Ayuttaya , Siam has never been under the Angkorean rule!

อาจาร Stuart- that was a really excellent addition to the Thai - Khom script series. The only thing which I'm left wondering about (but which you may have mentioned, and I missed, is the actual etymology of the word "khom". This leads on to why Cambodian Khmers refer to themselves and their language as K'mai, whereas Thai nationals of the lower Isaan region of upper Khmer ethnicity refer to themselves and their language as "Khmer" (really emphasising the รรรร). I'm conscious that this is probably coming up soon -
Colonel in English is pronounced “kernal” even though it defies modern English pronunciation rules. That’s because orthography does not change even in the pronunciation goes through vowel shifts over time. Modern Khmer vowels and pronunciation changes over time because it’s a living language.
It's the accents... the khmer- thais of East Thailand speak khmer with the thai accent.
As Sujit, a Thai historian, stated that before the current Thai scrips were formed Thai used Khom (Khmer) alphabets to write. The issue here is some Thai. I am Khmer and I taught myself to read Thai. I acknowledge that we both hold bear a similarity from culture to arts, from language to letters. The issue that I have is some Thais arguing that Khom is not Khmer, and Khmer is not Khom. They dispute and disassociate the two based on their prejudice. Som😢Thais hold a view that Khmer is inferior, and to liken Khmer to Khom to whom the Thai hold great respect and admiration is unthinkable. This attitude which has existed over 60 years creates a wedge and animosity between the two countries. Sad really.
My friend, this attitude by the Siem existed since the founding of their kingdom. That's over 700 years of lies. We can see why they hate Khmer so much. And we're scratching our heads wondering why.

I agree. This is Thai written with the old Khmer script. The letters are Khmer, but they don’t make sense in Khmer. I think it just becomes ludicrous when people think Khom was also a separate ethnicity from Khmer-that becomes quite a stretch.
What amazes me the most is the depth of your knowledge and the ability to distinguish the origins of words. I doubt that most modern Thai people are able to tell which are original Tai words and which are borrowed Khmer words. As a Thai who learned a bit of Khmer and Lao, I am always surprised to find a substantial amount of every day Khmer vocab in every day Thai conversation, not only royal vocab. However, I doubt that a Khmer person can read Fak kham and understand it, since the text contains lots of Tai vocabulary, vowels, and a tonal marks. On the other hand, I think it would be Laotians who might have what it takes to decipher this ancient text at first look.
Middle Khmer influence might come to Central Plain of modern Thailand during Angkor period when they sacked Lopburi. The Angkorians might also absorbed the language of natives in Lopburi as well. Just like Britain had colonised India and now Britain had also absorbed Indian words, cuisine and even Indian as a Prime Minister in the UK.
@@yimveerasak3543 one thing that I am sure is no pure blood and no pure language. Humans from different origins always interbreed beyond their group, either by force or voluntary during encounter. While nationalistic people on TH-cam here focus on justifying a couple native origins, I can only see flaws. There were obviously not only the new comers like the Tai whom Khom mingled with, Khom interbreed with whoever is present in Khmer empire and beyond too. If Khom had been influenced by the language and culture from individuals from India, It is safe to say that even Khom race is not pure. Just like the way many of us Homo sapiens sapiens are still carrying small amounts of the Neanderthal.
The truth is Thai Khom scripts is from Khmer Alphabet. But the way Thai Khom spell is different from khmer but not all different.

The Khom Thai script was adapted from the Sukhothai period. and Ayutthaya inherited this alphabet and developed it into the Thai alphabet. But still have Khom Thai script for writing Buddhist texts and talisman.
The current Khmer started from the genocide rebellion by "Trasok Praam". The Khmer era started after Ayutthaya. And the Khmer script was developed after that. @@foodtravelvlogs6979 You have no knowledge of the language at all. Among these are the Khmer Vorman scriptures. It's not a language, it's just a letter.
It's similar to spelling your Khmer name with English letters. When you finish spelling, does it become English? not english Just borrow English letters to spell in your own language. The Khom script is no different. It is the characters to speak in their own languages, Thai and Khmer. Take the letters and put them in their own language.
And do you think that if there really is a Khom Thai language, it must sound like a Khmer language? The inscriptions of Angkor Wat are still in Sanskrit language, not Khmer. If Thailand uses the Khom Vorman script must speak Sanskrit It's not Khmer as you would expect.
But there are also stupid Khmers Who thinks he still has Varman ancestors? The Khmers did not have Varman ancestors. And the Khmers were also the genocide of the Varman people from the rebellion of "Trasok Praam".
to talk without thinking No confirmation It will make you and your people look stupid. Please reconsider what you have done before you degrade the nation any further.
It is just a story not a truth. Even though it is the truth, we just changed one leader, but Khmer is still Khmer. How can just changed one leader and Khmer become different?
@@hoyrithy9572 That's right, I agree.
Just changing one leader, how does DNA change? Why does the Khmer have no DNA left from the people of Varman? Compared to the original origin in the lower Isaan region
Cambodia only changed one leader, but none of the original culture and ethnicity remained. how is it possible Why don't you know that you have a castle that has a culture that has been passed down from generation to generation?
Compare Thai Kadai culture. Passing on language, culture, weaving science with tools South Indian culture, even though the area has been moved, has been passed on to Southeast Asia. Both architecture, language, belief, art, and just from Angkor Thom Therefore, there is no continuation to PhraNokorn at all. Although migrating not far compared to Taikadai or South India
Why did the Khmers have no DNA left to continue their lineage and culture in a short period of time? Why don't you know that Angkor Wat Angkor Thom is your ancestor? in the absence of the lineage And there is no inheritance of any culture whatsoever. And why do you dare to say that it's Khmer???
In Thailand, we count only Ayutthaya. Both Ayutthaya received civilization from Dvaravati both from Sukhothai Why did Thailand not say that Siam was Ayutthaya, Sukhothai, and Dvaravati because of the later integration? does not mean Ayutthaya is Dvaravati. Ayutthaya people who are the core of the unification of Siam Not related to pedigree or inheriting the culture according to lineage Therefore, we never claim that Siam is Dvaravati or Siam has been in existence since the 5th Buddhist century therefore Siam is older than Vorman.
Therefore, the Khmer must know where their identity really begins. primitive lineage As far as I know, it is "Sruk Khmer" (from Sab Bak inscription), where this place is located at the border of Lawo. and was forcibly taken by Suriyavarman to build Angkor Wat and war with Vietnam Then, when there is enough strength The Khmer then rebelled. and fled south to keep away from the Lavo who were Varman's relatives. for fear of being hunted Khmers have no Varman lineage. because in that era The Varmans divide the castes according to the color of their skin. The whites were the ruling class (Varman), the blacks were the slaves of the Khmer people. (Recorded by Zhou Da Kwang) When the Khmer rebelled, he killed all the Varmans. There are not even artisans left to pass on civilization later. The Khmer therefore has no Varman culture left at all in phar nakorn. There are only Varman characters that are applied to the Khmer language only.
The Khmer therefore counted their lineage to only the "TraSok Praam" rebellion. What came before it was that other races had nothing to do with the Khmer. which this matter Among French archaeologists agree with this, but called ancient Khmer and modern Khmer. Thus causing the Khmer to mistakenly believe that the ancient Khmers were the ancestors of modern Khmer and "TraSok Praam" the rebellion was not just a story. But there is a record in the archives of Thailand as well, saying that Ayutthaya must go to suppress "Khmer defector" (the betrayed Khmer)
