- Have you Ever seen a sacred Thai สักยันต์ Yant Tattoo? What do those Mandalas actually say? Angelina Jolie's tattoos make for an amazing tapestry of 'Yant' all over her back, but I wonder how many can actually read them? Believe it or not, the writing isn't usually actually Thai - and the 'true' message is encoded several levels deep. In this clip, I'll run through all the basics you'll need to know that will help you start to identify and decode around 70% of the 'Yant' you see - whether in the form of tattoo, sacred cloth, or a mandala in a temple, office building or even a taxi.

แต่มีเพียงบันทึกและตามเว็บต่างๆในไทยที่บอกว่า พระรูปนึงเอาอักษรขอมไทยไปสอนพวกเขมร แต่ก็ไม่ได้เป็นหลักฐานที่แน่นหนาขนาดนั้น แต่ก็คาดว่า คงยืมไปใช้จริงๆนั่นแหละ เพราะสมัยก่อนเขมรเคยตกเป็นเมืองขึ้นของไทยมา4-5ร้อยปีแหนะ ไหนจะก่อนหน้านั้นที่มาเป็นทาสขอมเพื่อสร้างนครวัดอีก รวมทั้ง มีผลตรวจDNA ออกมามากมาย ว่าเขมร ไม่มีเชื้อขอมเลย เป็นเพียงแค่ชนเผ่าต่างถิ่นมาอยู่แถวนี้เท่านั้น
แต่น่าสงสัยอีกอย่างคือ อักษรไทยพ่อขุนรามหายไปไหน เราอ่านไม่ออกเลย แต่กลับพอจะแกะอักษรขอมอ่านได้ ดังนั้นอักษรปัจจุบันน่าจะวิวัฒนาการมาจากภาษาขอม แล้วอักษรพ่อขุนล่ะ? เราทิ้งไปเลยหรือเปล่า?
You're brilliant at making what at first appears complex and enigmatic feel much more approachable. Whereas before I regarded sak yant with a vague feeling of suspicion and incredulity, today I have come to a much greater appreciation. Thank you!

It's extremely fascinating and brings a whole lot of stuff together from the region, india and other places. Once decoded, people from Indonesia, Burma etc. could start to see so many commonalities between cultures / beliefs / legend etc.

You're so good at understanding that one of the most interesting tattoos is the one on the right below at 16.30. It's called the Buddha's crown yant.
But it's upside down. You know, every yant is actually related to a prayer. If you know how to read a the Buddha's crown yant, you can know the hidden prayer. The letters on the Buddha's crown yant hide the prayer ,that you read properly, you'll find a prayer longer than the letters on the the Buddah's crown yant.
The Buddah's crown yant is inherited to Thai people. Thai people believe that if anyone has this tattoo, it will be safe from both evil and accidents. Like having a Buddha's rule as a shield.
"Na mo pu ta ya" is a phrase commonly used in Buddhist chanting, and it is also known as the "Namo Buddhaya" mantra. It is a Sanskrit phrase that means "homage to the Buddha" or "I take refuge in the Buddha." The phrase is often repeated as a form of meditation or as a way to show respect and devotion to the Buddha and his teachings.
In fact, most spells are Pali, not Sanskrit.
@@NiyomThaiWhitskynobel Pali is a verbal language it does not have a script. But Pali can be written in any language for the sound just like pinyin for Mandarin.
I'm Thai, and as soon as I saw and realised this, I went to look at the Yant in front of my bedroom, and lo and behold, the Namo Phuthaya was right there. Although it was stretched into the shape of a Mongkut or the head of the Buddha to make it look more sacred with the Khomut at the end.

@@supmango1627 อักษรขอมไทยใช้เขียนเป็นคำบาลีในยันต์ต่างๆครับ ส่วนเรื่องความเชื่อในความศักดิ์สิทธิ์นั้น คงต้องถามคนที่เขาสักยันต์ คนที่ใช้เครื่องรางของขลังนะครับว่ามีความเชื่อว่ามีความศักดิ์สิทธิ์หรือไม่ แต่ต้องยอมรับความจริงนะครับว่าในสังคมไทยยังมีความเชื่อเรืองนี้อยู่เป็นจำนวนมาก ถึงแม้ว่ามันจะไม่สามารถพิสูจได้ก็ตาม ถ้าถามคนสักยันต์คนที่ชื่นชอบเครื่องรางของขลังทุกคน เขาก็ต้องบอกว่าเขามีความเชื่อ ซึ่งอย่างน้อยมันก็เป็นที่พึ่งทางใจในเวลาทีเจอเหตุการณ์ไม่ดี หรือเวลาที่ต้องออกรบต่อสู้กับข้าศึก มันจะช่วยให้เกิดความฮึกเหิมในจิตใจ สำหรับคนที่มีความเคารพนับถือ สวนท่านอาจเป็นคนรุ่นใหม่ที่มีแนวคิดทางวิทยาศาสตร์ก็อาจจะคิดอีกแบบ

The very common mandala used in yantras are:
“น เมา พุ ทฺธา ย” often says to mean 5 buddhas.
“น ม พ ธ” likely to be shorter form of above. Usually means the four elements.
“น ชา ลี ติ” this one usually called heart of Sivali, or mandala of wealth.
“อิ สฺวา สุ” the first syllables of mantra that pay respect to the three gems
“จ ภ ก ส” heart of sutras.
“ม อ อุ” represent the 3 gems, likely to come from ōm. Sometimes add น in front.
Usually, the yantras letters come from buddhist sutra or chant in some way: Sometimes it’s shorten, use only the beginning syllable, written in backward, written in some form of riddles, etc.
Correct, but why not they not write current thai script into thai yant? Still you using Khom script or Khmer script.
Then use these letters for your sak yant instead of using Khmer script, or Thai khorm as you called it(
Or whatever name you want to call); which is basically khorm means Khmer anyway. Btw using these letters is meaningless that’s why all sak yant are written in 100% Khmer script.

I have watched the video by paveen mohan about 5 elements symbol at hindu temple. Wow! It seems linked to each other!
Some Thai people use the verse “Na mo Bud dha Ya” in Samatha meditation as well, during breathing out, and the reversed “Ya dha Bud mo Na” during breathing in, slowly, of course. And imagine the bright light as stream of air flowing in and out of the body. It is believed that this will alleviate symptoms of sickness (but not curing it).

It’s from Khmer …all sak yant are written in Khmer script- if written in thai script then it has no meaning

1. Thai Khom script is different from Khmer script. The two scripts used by different group of people. If you see Yant in Thai Khom, you can assume that it's done by Thais. If you see it in Khmer, you can assume it's done by Khmer.
2. Script is not language. In Sak Yant, it's Pali language expressed by Thai Khom script. Pali can be expressed using modern Thai script as well but tradition in Say Yant uses Thai Khom script.
@@user-cx7vw7uk2v the siem basically just put a bit hair at the top, or tail at the bottom of the letter on sak yant just to suit their need. In actual fact it’s the Khmer script - the khmer script that the Siem has been trying to claim as theirs for years, only a fool would believe in that…sak yant are written in Pali using Khmer script, if using Thai script then it’s meaningless. And stop pretending it’s Thai khom….you might as well called it kapik script if you re so pleased…

Languages and scripts have been evolving all the time. Old languages and scripts are replaced by new ones. Study of them help us understand history. Historian & Linguist have been trying to classify them; why would you try to mix them together?

With your type of mindset, the herd continues to follow and grow in numbers. Is it so wrong to argue or question someone regardless whether or not they have a "higher" education or "more" knowledge than you? I am proud of my fellow khmers in this comment section on a few khom sak yant related videos he has uploaded. Many of them have shown they are independent thinkers with the capacity for critical discernment by challenging and questioning those who have so called "authority" on a particular subject, in this case linguistics.

@@jomontanee thanks. Its actually a form of punctuation used in Javanese script called 'purwapada' and is used to introduce a piece of poetry in a text.
The flanking pieces are called 'rerengan' and are put around names or titles I believe.
Prakrit is the colloquial form of Sanskrit. Sanskrit is older.

Sak yant is ancient Khmer yantra based back to the 7-8th century when the Khmer Empire still in power, Thief Siem imigrated to Khmer Empire and mix with Mon-Khmer and adopted Khmer culture and develop until modern day. Having a look at how the alphabets are in Indochina (Thailand, Cambodia, Lao and Myanmar), it seems that current Thai alphabet is the most simple: less curve, less complex. In further, Thai alphabet in computer system is more and more simple than hand-writing.
This has gone to the development and make it most simple for anybody could learn and use. It's the basic of development.
That's another reason that Most of Thai people today cannot read Thai-Khom since the development has almost deleted what we've used in the older days.
You hit the point actually, the creation of modern script is to make education more accessible to the general publics. It's why the king abolish the use of Khmer script.

Honestly, most of the comments from Cambodians here reflect two things.
Firstly, most Cambodians have no idea about "intellectual property" at all.
If Thai Yants have been adopted and developed their own style for a thousand years, Cambodian people cannot say that Thais stole it from them.
Secondly, most of the comments show an attitude reflecting significant low self-esteem among Cambodian people,
who would rather develop Cambodian-owned culture to be more amusing to foreigners than argue with cultures owned by other countries.

The Yant tattoos has Khmer scriptures on it and that's why we will never agree to it belong to Thai. Even Cambodian Royal Chronicle still say Trasak Praem is the first king of Khmers, not Varman dynasty.

But Siam have been using Khom scripts at early age of Mahitorn Pura , the ancestor of Varman.

First Khmer is pronounced “Ka Mai”. Like Mom= My or field= Srai.
I think we all can agree on is the scripts origin came from Sanskrit, Cambodia and the Thais added extra lines to help with their Tonal language.
So yes the tattoos you are breaking down are how the Thais would pronounce it.
While in Cambodia, they pronounce it without the tonal annunciation.
I have both Sak Yant from Thailand & Cambodia or pronounced “Sak Yarn” in Khmer
Long story short, it’s as if a story was written in English, so the thai who didn’t have a written language yet, use the same font, but added extra lines to help with pronunciation. For Example “Starbucks” would be written in Thai as “Sitarrbuck”

That Indian teacher Sadhguru was saying that etymologically broken down, bu comes from buddhi which means intellect, and dha comes from dada (I think but don't remember exactly) which means gone beyond. @@jomontanee I am talking about the etymological breakdown from Sanskrit, not layman's terms.
Buddhi means intellect. Not sure about the Dha part. In India he is actually called Buddh. In sanskrit every noun ends with 'Aha' which in angliczed form becomes Buddha. But in Hindi it is shortened to Buddh. In hindi you write बुद्ध and in sanskrit you write बुद्धः Notice the : at the end. That is the 'aha' sound. Source - I am Indian and Hindi speaker.

He said & emphasized again & again that these are old Thai language, translated into Sanskrit that Thai people were using in the past and was meaningless/gibberish and made no sense in Khmer/Cambodia language. Even the title in this post said so !! It belongs to & meant for the Thai.
Some English alphabets are used in many languages also. Using them to convey meanings in America would make no sense to the Spanish or the French.

The Thai adopted the ancient Khmer script as their official script around the 10th century, during the territorial expansion of the Khmer Empire, because the Thai language lacked a writing system at the time. I am Cambodian. I can understand the letters easily, but I’m not interested in tattoos because I’m not a boxer. I hope that one day Khmer and Thai stop disputing the culture. It’s normal that tradition or writing system spread from one place to another. Just recognize the past and look forward to the future, that’s it.
The European have only 3 alphabet systems and only 1 numeral system. The arab/muslim world uses only one writing system. Chinese uses only one writing system too. So it’s easier for them share knowledge with each other.
On the other hand, India and southeast asia have a lot of letter shapes. It is an obstacle for us to trade or cooperate in any sectors.

Actually, we are not interested for these claim from Cambodian internet people. Unfortunately, it more and more heavily. Historical, people, cloths, foods, sport ect.
When Khmer start agressive..we throw more agressive back and feel deep down relation ship among us.

When I was young, I felt proud of my national culture. But after I studied engineering and information technology at university then I worked in an international company with foreigners including thai people, I started to open mind to the world. I realized that culture, languages, writing or border didn’t divide people, but our dictator politicians did. Why shoud we still keep those outdated things as a topic of disputes? We don’t live in stone age anymore. Now it’s 21st century, the technology era. We need cooperation to build something new.
The European had similar issues with each other. Finally they came up with “European Union” to solve the past problem. I don’t believe that the disputes will end soon because both sides are extreme nationalism, lack of education, too religious, missing long term perspective, also fuled the anger by our corrupted politicians. So ….

เพราะชาวละโว้โบราณ เริ่มเขียน ด้วยอักษรปัลลวะ ซึ่งได้รับอิทธิพลมาจากอักษรครันถะในอินเดีย ผลมาจากการรับอิทธิพลทางศาสนาและมีการพัฒนา อักษรปรับเปลี่ยน มาเป็นภาษา"ขอมโบราณ"ในละโว้และแพร่หลายใช้กันใน สุวรรณภูมิ ...
ภาษาขอมโบราณ ถูกใช้ในสมัยของละโว้ และสุโขทัย จนกระทั่ง พ่อขุนรามคำแหง ได้ประดิษฐ์อักษร ลายสือไท จากภาษาขอมสำเร็จ เราจึงหยิบใช้อักษรพ่อขุนรามเป็นแม่บทต่อมา จนกลายเป็นอักษรไทย แต่ก็มีการ อนุรักษ์ อักษรขอมละโว้เอาไว้ โดยใช้เป็นอักษรที่ใช้ในพิธีกรรมทางศาสนาและรัฐพิธี
ในยุค รัตนโกสินทร์อักษรไทย ถูกใช้และปรับเปลี่ยนให้คล่องตัวขึ้น .... ในหลวง ร.๔ เองก็มีการเอาภาษาขอมโบราณ มาเป็นพระราชลัญจกรพระบรมราชโองการ องค์ใหญ่ (สังเกตได้จากตัวเชิง คือ ระบบการเขียนของขอมในไทย ซึงไม่มีในกัมพูชา)

ชาวสยามจึงใช้อักษรไทยต่อมา แต่ก็มีการพยายามดัดแปลงการสะกดอีกครั้งในสมัย จอมพลป. แต่ก็ไม่ได้รับความนิยม
ปัจจุบัน ชาวไทยจึงใช้จึงใช้อักษรไทยที่พัฒนาต่อมาจากอักษรขอมละโว้ ...เป็นสำคัญ

ส่วนภาษา กัมพุ เกิดมาได้ยังไง อันนี้ ต้องย้อนกลับไป
ต้นรากชนชั้นในเขมร ก่อน ... เพราะ แต่แรกในสมัยยุคเดียวกับละโว้... เขมรชนชั้นปกครอง นั้น มีอักษรเขียนเป็น"อักษรมูล"หรือ "ขอมบรรจง"เพราะได้รับอิทธิพลขอมละโว้แต่ มีลักษณะการพูดที่ต่างระบบออกไป (นึกง่ายๆ เหมือนเวียดนาม ที่มีอักษรคล้ายโรมันแต่อ่านออกเสียงแตกต่างเฉพาะออกไป) นั้นเพราะ เขมรมีชนชั้นแรงงานที่มีภาษาพูดแตกต่างออกไป
ชาวละโว้เรียกภาษาและอักษรเขมรเวลานั้นว่า "กัมพูชากษร" หรือ อักษรกัมพุ นั้นเอง
การเวลาผ่านมา ในสมัย รัตนโกสินตร์ (ร.๔) ตอนนั้นเขมรเป็นเมืองขึ้นสยาม เนื่องจากมีพระเขมรจำนวนมากเข้ามาบวรเรียนในสยาม เลยมีการเขียน ภาษา เขมร(คาดว่าเป็น กัมพูชากษร)ผสมไทยจำนวนมาก พระสังฆราช ที่กรุงพนมเปญ จึงมีการประดิษฐ์ "อักษรเชรียง" เพื่อใช้ในศาสนพิธี..
ภาษา กัมพูชาในปัจจุบัน นั้นพัฒนา มาจากอักษรเชรียง แต่ไม่มีตัวเชิง และถูกพัฒนาให้ระบบการอ่านแบบ อักษรกัมพุซึ่งแตกต่างจากภาษาไทยอย่างชัดเจนขึ้น
เรื่องราวของภาษาเขมร ยังมีรายละเอียดมากมายที่ต้องศึกษาเพิ่มเติม เพราะระบบการอ่านของภาษามีความซับซ้อนและเปลี่ยนแปลงไปตามการเวลา ประวัติศาสตร์ที่เขียนให้อ่านตรงนี้เป็นฉบับ ย่อสั้นมากๆ เพียงเพื่อให้ ปชช เข้าใจรากเหง้าของตนเองไม่ไปหลงผิด ตามคำหลอกลวงของใคร ก็เท่านั้น แต่ในรายละเอียด เชื่อว่าประเทศของเรามีผู้ชำนาญการมากมายที่สามารถให้คำตอบได้ว่า

Why the word Khom when Translate in GG YT FB it Currently Show the translate is Khmer. Even Translate also mean that Khom is Khmer not Thai. Thais mission Failed 😅🤣😜
