My problem with the potter and the clay is the false equivalence. We’re not an unfeeling, non sentient, inanimate object. It’s psychotic to create a sentient being and do what you want with them because you created them and have the power to. If I created a creature capable of feeling, that wouldn’t give me the right to torture it.

Nailed it, you said what I have always said when this story was brought up by someone, how can we as humans be treated like a damn inanimate object that has no heart or feelings ? If god really views us like that, then what the hell is the point of it all ? Makes no sense. If god is really like that, then it's yet another example of how god is a sadist.

I mean you could also argue that it's an equivalence in the opposite direction: If the potter intentionally makes some vessels badly, he could be said to be abusing the clay that he misuses. A poor potter trying his best who makes bad vessels is one thing, but a master potter making bad product deliberately strikes me as somehow unethical. Seems like if God is the potter, he has some kind of obligation to produce his best work and not create crap on purpose.

    • @Innocent_Villain
      @Innocent_Villain ปีที่แล้ว +9

@Uryvichk But the people who are effectively being punished aren't all crap in the first place. A god who would treat people like clay or like crap, or even like computers that just mechanically mimic sentience with a deceptively fast calculated shuffling of ones and zeros, would be a psychopathic narcissistic god and not worthy of worship.

I believe it was Gautama the 5th that once said; “I prefer to fill my cup directly from the fountain of knowledge, for that is the only source uncontaminated by the imagination of man.” (Or something like that)
It is difficult to argue with that wisdom. Of course there are varying degrees of that but for our correspondence, I would answer the doctrine and theology of apostolic Christianity. For me personally it would primarily include Eastern Orthodoxy, and Wesleyan Theology. Methods of interpretation would include the Anglican Triad and Wesley Quadrilateral.
All is based on what has always been taught. If it hasn’t been taught from the beginning I would not accept it as ‘truth’.
Let us remember Christianity did not come from the Bible. The Bible evolved from the religion of Jesus Christ. If an interpretation conflicts with those who gave us the Bible to begin with then we are merely creating our own depiction. Creating our own religion even that we claim is Christianity. I don’t believe in ‘god’ I hear Kristi debunking either. What she claims is not apostolic Christianity. It’s a very warped depiction at best.
      Peace to all!

If humans don’t have the authority to question God, because we’re unimportant creations, why is our sin so important it needs to be punished(let alone eternally punished)?
Not to mention that someone doesn’t need authority to question someone. In fact, it’s people with authority who need to be questioned by others. That’s like arguing that you need to have a lot of money and connections in order to investigate corruption.

    • @Uryvichk
      @Uryvichk ปีที่แล้ว +15

If God is an authority figure, he has duties to his subjects. Any authority which claims all rights and privileges against those it rules over, yet affords them absolutely no rights, is unjustifiable tyranny. Would anyone willingly consent to obey a government that says "You have absolutely no right to live, and if the ruler says you should be killed for the good of his government, you have no right to complain about it and in fact should tell us how good and smart we are for killing you"? Of course not. If God wants the right to judge people, he owes them certain things. And one of the foremost duties a sovereign tends to owe is a duty of protection, to keep those under the sovereign's jurisdiction from avoidable harm, including from the sovereign himself. Needless to say, God's not looking too hot on that front.
If God doesn't want any connection with his creation whatsoever, if he wants to be absolutely independent of it and owe it nothing whatsoever, then he has no right to say how he wants it to be run or to judge those in his creation for what they do. If there's no relationship, there are no obligations; if there are obligations, they go both ways. God, in creating, owes his creation something, and if he didn't want that obligation all he had to do was not create.

This passage has bothered me since I was a young person Even then, I knew it was wrong. I went in and out of Christianity all of my life, and I was miserable most of the time. At 70 years old, I have finally realized that what I tried so hard to believe just isn't true. I'm not brave enough to come out to my Christian friends because when I tried to tell my cousin, she just shut me out. Right now, I consider myself as an agnostic because I just don't know if there is a God somewhere. I don't believe that the God I tried so hard to believe in is real. I find the potter and clay argument a bit contradictory to the idea that God is like a Father to us.
Is a he a loving Father who has responsibility towards his children, or is a creator to be feared and allowed to do whatever he wants to his creation without question?
You definitely don’t treat a baby the same way you treat inanimate possessions, and any father who would do the things God has to his children would certainly be condemned.

I reached the conclusion very early on that, if God really did love me and knew that I was destined for hell, that it would have been much kinder to have just never made me.
Searching the scriptures for a loophole to my fate eventually led me to see too many contradictions with both itself and available evidence.

I came across a passage that gave me such vivid and painful memories, and I have to take a break from deconstructing as I have been closely reading without humanistic philosophies, just me. My parents were mentally and physically abusive. I'm 50, army vet and truck driver still suffering from everything is my fault and I need punishment: constant fear and anxiety. Several examples make me cringe at what I thought was a loving God. But David in one account is tempted by Satan to take a census. But in another account it's God. Either way God becomes so mad and tells David that he must choose between 3 punishments for the Israelites--sort of a pattern that others not David is punished. This is exactly what my parents did to me and my sister. Just the most simple mundane thing, and one thing they did was make us choose between 3 punishments and both have to be punished regardless if the other had nothing to do with it. It's just so maddening. Nope. I'm done, I'm done, I'm so done with this false idea of the God of love. I wouldn't do this stuff to my dog. Why? Because I love him with all my heart.

This was actually a big thing for me as a Christian... I used to be an awful person. Like, to the point of ruining lives and nearly taking one. And I had thought, I pray and pray for forgiveness, that God shape me into something he might love and find acceptable... And paired with Paul's thorn. The one he prayed for and was unable to shake off. I thought, surely I'm this way because God wants me to be. I don't know why my role would be to hurt people, but I must. It felt so natural even, and by that I mean, an intuition. I'd see someone who didn't stand out in particular but I felt drawn to them, felt like they were next, and I had convinced myself that God had desired it. For otherwise, he would have changed me already.
You can really only change yourself. Gotta work on the why and realize that you're not some cursed abomination, a wretched lump far asunder, destined to never see heaven's light. That light can be within you - you don't have to be awful. And yes. Being taught that that was my natural state, that all men are born with such desires, all that did not help at all...

Many prayers are taken directly from scripture. A few years ago, about halfway into my deconversion, I stopped saying those. Repeating week after week the lines about being unworthy and the lowliest of low sinners does not seem good for your mental wellbeing. Also, the weekly confession is bad for you. Usually I had not done enough bad to fill the time of confession, and any sins I committed I already had repented of and felt guilty over anyway. What would happen, then, is I would repent of the same sins, ones from years ago, over and over again, week after week. They tell you that there is freedom in Jesus Christ from your past, but they keep you in a guilty rut over your past. Realizing I had done enough penance, I stopped attending and felt better.

Opinions change, views change, ideas change, experiences create new views...so that's why so much of thr Bible is more a discussion or a debate than a consistent source for right truth I believe. Also why other ancient scriptures from different faiths are equally valuable or useless depending on the case. As always you bring up good questions.

will definitely be favored, honored, and rewarded by the loving, kind, and merciful Creator with ETERNAL LIFE and existence without sufferings, pains, griefs, sickness, and death on a safe, secure, and peaceful earth without arrogant, cruel, and merciless persons, without liars, slanderers, hypocrites, deceivers, traitors, and murderers as written in Revelation 21: 3, 4, and 8.
      The Bible reveals
that all human beings have no immortal souls and will just become worthless and useless dusts on earth after their deaths just like the animals as written in Ecclesiastes 3: 19, 20 and 9: 5, 6
      but
all the loving, kind, respectful, and submissive worshippers of the Creator and followers of Jesus Christ who died recently and thousands of years ago like Abel, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Job, Naomi, Ruth, King David, Mary, Martha, Lazarus, and many others will not remain as worthless and useless dusts on earth forever,
      instead,
in the Creator's own right time and as written in John 11: 25, 26,
Jesus Christ will RESURRECT them back to life so they can all happily and abundantly live and exist on earth forever as submissive and obedient subjects of the "KINGDOM of GOD"
      and
fully enjoy the eternal love, kindness, goodness, compassions, generosities, favors, and blessings of the Creator and his Christ for eternity under the loving and kind rulership, guidance, and protection of Jesus Christ as the Creator's Chosen King and Ruler of the heavens and the earth as written in Revelation 11: 15.

Wow. Kristi. You exude pure Divinely inspired wisdom, if EVER there was such. This is beautifully done, beautifully expressed, beautifully shared, so deep, so profound, so simple, so wise. You are truly an amazing gem. I'm stunned. Thank you! I will DEFINITELY be sharing this video! ❤

I love how you break these ideas down so simply. I really had to pause and let the inanimate object part sit for a while because it was so spot on and such a good way to explain the free will fallacy as well

I like the Potter story, because it shows we humans have a power to create that can be demonstrated, AND a god has to be made an analogy to us, because there's nothing to present or demonstrate on its own.

A few months ago I showed my mom one of your videos. She since then has started deconstructing Christianity, left her crappy church and she's now focusing on herself and what she wants. Thanks Kristi
