FSD Can't Do This In 🇨🇳 - Huawei Inside Lets The AVATR 11 Drive Itself In Cities And On Highways

  • Thought that XPeng was the only brand offering city and highway autonomous technology? Well now AVATR are in town boasting a triple lidar set-up powered by Huawei Inside and it is quite a system.
    We put it to the test on the streets and highways of Shanghai to see just how good it is in practice, and then took it to a car park to show off its autonomous parking in practice.

      For the Chinese, clothing must be cheap and comfortable, which is the dignity that everyone must respect. It is a crime to make people unable to wear decent clothes if they are too expensive. But cars are different. As a transportation device, they may bring safety hazards to owners, their families, or other users in public areas. Therefore, they must be safe and reliable regardless of cost, because money cannot measure life. This is what they deal with the attitude towards the epidemic previously is obvious, different value difference price, totally fair enough.

    Totally impressive and thank you for making this extensive video on its driving tech, just bought a BMWi4, although quite nice but nothing close to this kind of tech overall. I will be moving back to Zhuhai in a yr would def buy a Chinese EV but so confused of which one LOL, as they are all so good. Nio, Avatr11, Zeekr... are my few initial option, but I think Avatr11 seems to be the best so far, any thoughts? thank you.

    • @InsideChinaAuto
      @InsideChinaAuto  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +25

      Awesome, welcome back when you make it, and glad you liked the video. As for what to choose, honestly it's not easy. Personally I think cars like AVATR and Zeekr offer better value for money than NIO which are priced quite high but are built very, very well. By next year I expect Zeekr will have a lidar upgrade (I've seen them testing) so it'll be even stronger and they look and drive great, AVATR will have what I expect will be a new sedan, and NIO might have their ADAS system running on full city and highway set up too, so really it comes down to what style of product you want and what you prioritise. Also who knows what else will be on the market by then or what prices everything will be. Best suggestion is to really try them, have a test, and usually one will speak to you more than the others.

    Hi Mark
    Funny I've just watched this video with a friend, and I also watch many Fsd Tesla video's and yes they're pretty good but still got lots of little problems , can't recognise this, can't recognise that, false breaking, generally pretty good lane control though where everything's clearly marked, but I've been saying to most people Fsd is still a long way of.
    So here I am watching your video not believing what my eyes are seeing, especially on that single section of road 🛣️ where there was trucks on left and scooters on your right and poorly marked centre lane, and it took this all in its stride I'm pretty much drive itself beautifully for the rest of the video I could not believe , braking, avoiding, anticipating, Wow. Super Impressed.
    Well Sandy Munroe has stated on a few occasions, that radar is the only way to go forward with full self driving, in particular Forward looking Infra Red Radar which I do not think this vehicle had ,it has Lidar based radar correct me if wrong, Anyway very very impressed with that, great video there . I believe I have seen the True Future of FSD.
    Regards John .

    • @InsideChinaAuto
      @InsideChinaAuto  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Glad you enjoyed it John and great to have you back again. It really is an impressive system. I'm always apprehensive about what they'll do but as you said, it did almost everything smoothly. This car uses lidar, yes, as well as the usual millimetre wave radar and cameras, the whole bunch. Lidar primarily has use for long distances to my understanding, seeing in the dark, such as debris on a dark motorway at 200+ metres, but can be useful in closer scenarios too. Cameras inevitably paint the picture the car sees as lidar and radar can't read traffic lights (as far as I know), the rest is really kind of combining experience and understanding, which is a hard task as there are so many roads that will look nothing like anything the car saw before.

Regardless of cost, Musk explains the limitations of LiDAR: "We don't envision using LiDAR...1 mars 2023 It relies on computer vision to make sense of the visual information collected by the vehicle's cameras. Instead of using LiDAR, Tesla's approach is to train the computer to recognize and interpret the visual world, with the goal of achieving autonomous driving capabilities.27 Mars 2023. The central point of lidar is that it allows a vehicle to build a more accurate 3D image, as well as see much farther, up to 250 meters in total darkness , meaning it can detect hazards much earlier than cameras alone.How does LiDAR work?
      LiDAR emits hundreds of thousands of infrared laser pulses per second onto a target surface and then measures the time it takes for the light to return (echo). From the laser travel time measurement, it is able to calculate the distance - Distance = (Speed of Light x Elapsed Time) . Laser remote sensing or lidar, acronym for "light detection and ranging" "laser imaging detection and ranging", is a distance measurement technique based on the analysis of the properties of a light beam reflected back to its emitter.

      No, it just depends on the AI interpreting the pictures or point clouds. You still have to map the point clouds to objects for the AI to process, while FSD just interpret the photos taken. It's much less taxing on the onboard computer. A lot of point cloud is just useless data. At the end, it all depends on how the AI is trained. Tesla has way more data from real life and dojo.

Before the final left turn, you pressed the left turn signal, which caused the car to exit NCA and enter ACC mode. In ACC mode, the car will not look at the navigation route, but will keep driving forward and change lanes when you use the turn signal. If you had paid attention to the screen at that time, you would have noticed that the blue lines disappeared.

I was considering an upgrade to a Model X because the price came down and for Sept we supposedly can transfer FSD as a one time benefit. I was so tempted to pull the trigger. Unfortunately, there aren't many foreign Avatr 11 reviews online, this one paired with the 2nd review on this channel are far the best - but meanwhile outdated. Avatr has launched two facelifts and ADS went through two major updates, the latest one not relying on HD maps anymore.
    AVATR's ADS is currently benchmark in the world, and that's objective. You can easily drive through entire China autonomously, certainly including Tier-1 cities like Beijing and Shanghai. It avoids obstacles through their GOD like no other car. I am lucky enough to own this car, and always have to smile watching other ADAS/FSD systems, knowing that those are still junior levels.
    Yes, Tesla can drive on easy roads reliable. But as soon as complex parking is required, it fails.
    Based on my limited research, Avatr 11 holds the worldrecord in external sensors, including 3x lidars (34 sensors/cameras). To compare: Tesla has 8 cameras.
    Let's forget about those US-China-worries. Let's focus on technologies. And as deeper you dive into Avatr's advanced technologies, as more you will rethink, that autonomous driving is several years away. It's not. Huawei (core system is from Huawei) has cleverly protected with patents plenty of their ADS technologies, guaranteeing a strategic advantage. But others will follow.
    BTW, another entirely underrated technologies is "Onedrive itrack". Amazing driving performance, free of charge in both AVATRs. Or the brandnew Harmony operating system.
    Let's learn from the best. And let's remember, that current AVATR 11 for sale is not the one in this review. For example, Avatr now is equipped with a 2016W 3D sound system. The only other car available with >2000W as standard is the updated Nio ET7 with 2300W, as far as I am aware of.
    I am a technerd, and not for a single second have I regretted my decision to purchase and drive Avatr 11.

It's aware of what a highway is and it could also take the next exit and stop there and do some medical emergency measures to notify someone. Just parking on the highway will probably cause an accident.
      Does somebody know what other manufacturers cars do in the same situation?

    • @InsideChinaAuto
      @InsideChinaAuto  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I'm not sure to be honest. I've seen companies say the car will be brought to 'a safe halt with emergency lights on' but what exactly does that mean? Stopping in lane on a highway is not safe. If it pulled to the hard shoulder with lights on and a call to the emergency services that might do the job. Would love to test one to the full limit on that but don't want to cause an unnecessary incident. I'll ask AVATR what happens though.

      @@InsideChinaAuto What would be nice for a direct comparison if you get a chance to test drive NIO and Xpeng autonomous modes in the same way (or other Chinese brands if there are more who implemented such systems). Here in Germany they start programs with NIO to replace the classic taxi service with autonomous cars in two cities. Implementation without customers starts this summer and public service for anyone bookable via app starts next year. So i guess the NIO system is similarly ready for the street.

      Got an answer for this from AVATR. Generally speaking, the driver needs to frequently touch the steering wheel, or press the button on the steering wheel, because the car needs to ensure that someone is monitoring the vehicle. If he or she does not move for a long time, the car will remind the driver three times. After three reminders, if there is no reacton, it will exit the NCA and will require the human to take over, and for the rest of the journey the driver cannot activate NCA anymore, unless they pull over and restart the vehicle, then they can use the NCA again.

    Huawei's ADAS and autoparking is a little ahead of XPeng's, though XPeng is able to autopark across multiple stories. Both promised to drop HD Maps and release City ADAS to dozens of cities by the end of this year. Even their voice assistants are supremely impressive, though I think XPeng edges Huawei in this area. They appear to be in a different class from the rest as far as production vehicles are concerned.
    However, I think XPeng is more impressive as they are able to keep up with the giant that is Huawei using cheaper hardware (less TOPS and only 2 LiDARS) and with a smaller R&D budget. Unlike Huawei, which relies on Chang-an to produce their cars, XPeng's full-stack in-house development allows them to integrate their autonomous technologies with vehicle engineering like front-rear aluminum die casting, cell-integrated-body and 800V SiC architecture. Over the long-term, I believe XPeng's vehicles will be cheaper, more spacious and more efficient. They just need to get their marketing sorted out.

    • @InsideChinaAuto
      @InsideChinaAuto  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      With you on pretty much everything here aside from the less TOPS thing. I tried the P5's City NGP (P5 has just 20 TOPS compared to 508 I think for the G9) and it wasn't good. Had to intervene 3 times in the first 12 minutes. I give it some leeway because of the lack of brainpower, plus it was Guangzhou which is just a construction site, the roads are awful and the drivers are worse, but I will be giving the G6 with XNGP a full test in Shanghai at some point to try and make a better comparison. Also hope XPeng's superfast voice system can do English just as well one day because my Chinese isn't slick enough to test it at full speed yet.
