      That's actually part of the motivation behind the style. We wanted it to feel like a classic sci-fi show, and that's pretty much how the gameplay should play out too.

    You absolutely need to add modding (custom ships and, if possible, structures) to that. (Then have a modder / ‘officialy unpaid developer that isn’t connected to your company’ make a Star Wars/Gate/Treck/whatever ship, and give it to a few youtubers for review. Instant hype without pesky copyright lawyers trying to sue you)

      We're not planning on that for the first release, but we do have plans to see humans expanding into the new worlds you find during the single player campaign. We've actually got 3 separate campaign story arcs planned that follow on directly from one another, along with 2 that will be standalone. During the third one you will be directly involved in the human expansion activities.

    • @StarshipSimulator
      @StarshipSimulator  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We're planning for the initial release to be a free sandbox, which will contain the full crew compliment and support both single and multiplayer. After that, we have a number of DLC's planned that will be purely single player campaigns (although they will include new ships for multiplayer use).

    This looks great but I’m curious what the game loop will look like. That’s what a has always deterred me from spaceship sim games, it devolves into fetch quests and “go blow this up” quests which get boring. Hope it can break out of that cycle!

    • @DanGovier
      @DanGovier 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's a lot to unpack in a youtube comment, but super simplified it will go something like this;
      - Choose a star system to warp to. This will take several in-game days, and you'll be carrying out role-specific tasks each day.
      - Upon arrival, scan the system and look for interesting things to investigate. There will be a lot of variety in this regard.
      - If there's a habitable world, the life on its surface could be anything from simple bacteria all the way up to ancient alien civilisations.
      - If the life is advanced enough you'll be able to hail them, and a multiple choice dialogue system will determine how that plays out (captain role).
      - If your contact goes well you might get something to enhance your ship, or if it goes badly you might find yourself under attack.
      - You will also be able to explore derelict ships and stations to search for interesting things, which again will have a risk vs reward component.
      - There are billions of star systems to explore, and everything is procedural so you'll never know what to expect when you arrive at a system.
      - Your ship's systems are all fully simulated, with their own needs in terms of maintenance and resources. The engineer role will take care of this.
      Basically you get a living, breathing starship and a whole galaxy to explore with it :)

    Will we be able to do rocket oriented deck style ships? I think it would play into the stacked disk arrangement really well.

    • @DanGovier
      @DanGovier 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The game will release with just the one ship to begin with (it's huge), but we're planning on releasing a number of smaller ships over time. They will vary in style, and it would be interesting to do an older style one which is more like the SpaceX starship in design.

  • @bobjohnston1239
    @bobjohnston1239 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Could Paramount come after them for the ship design?

    • @DanGovier
      @DanGovier 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's a fair question, and one we've asked ourselves a few times. Ultimately though, the only physical similarity between our Magellan Class and any ship in Trek is the fact it's saucer shaped. The internal design is inspired by Zaha Hadid architecture, the ship's tech is based on real world science, and the story/lore is entirely our own IP. In fact, the design is entirely driven by the technical needs of the ship, and it just so happens that having a circular deck layout was the most efficient use of space for 200 crew quarters. It really packs them in tightly.
      Paramount/CBS were certainly not the first to use saucer shaped ships in sci-fi, but I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to claim ownership of the concept. For that reason we will most certainly be involving a copyright lawyer to be 100% sure before release.

    • @bobjohnston1239
      @bobjohnston1239 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DanGovier the only problem I see is the design Is way too close to the Miranda Class Starship in Star Trek.

    I love everything about this except for the kerning on the ship name which is really pissing me off, please fix.

    • @DanGovier
      @DanGovier 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Funnily enough each letter is exactly the same degrees in separation on a circle, it's the Eurostile font that has slightly awkward letter placement. I'll see if I can nudge it a bit, because traditional kerning won't work here (each letter is a separate object).
