Just a tip for new anime/japanese content watchers: Often people will refer to each other by their last or family names. But when being informal or very close with someone you can use the first name. In this case, Tanjiro is his first name that his family (and local friends) calls him. But other characters may refer to him as Kamado (his family name) especially when being more formal. Characters when being formal will also introduce themselves by last name first: Kamado Tanjiro. Nezuko is likewise Kamado Nezuko. Hope this helps anyone new! (There's more nuance of course but this should be a good start for anyone. And also the subs may flip the names around for the audience but you can hear the original in the voice acting)

I think this is an anime that is confusing for that exactly bc they do it but they don't do it all the time like it is done in Japan, like Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke automatically calling each other by their first names since the moment they meet but calling hashiras by their last names at least they get close. Kind of like AOT, that isn't set up in Japan so doesn't do it but at the same time kind of still uses japanese stuff but just some time, like how they call Hange specifically Hange-San but not others. I mean, no wonder people that's new in anime get confused even after getting it explained lol.

More educated characters will refer to Tanjiro as "Kamado-shounen" for example or "Kamado-dono". In Attack On Titan they move away from the Japanese naming style because the setting is western, hence the names like Sasha and Tommy instead of Hisashi or Senzawa. So that's why AoT uses first names first in most cases.
I love that it's only the first episode and it's already so tragic. This kid loses the majority of his family and his remaining family member almost ate him and is struggling to keep whatever humanity she has left. And this is just the start. It gets even better from here.

This is the first time your channel has popped up for me and I have to say I really like it so far! Demon Slayer is genuinely such an amazing anime and it’s cool to see people react to it for the first time! I don’t know much about Japanese voice actors (although I watch anime in both sub and dub) but I really really love the Japanese voice actor of Tanjiro haha, but I also genuinely love Demon Slayer a lot as well as the characters! Excited to watch your reactions to this show!

The fact that anyone would stop watching just because you two are married is really sad. As someone that has been deep into anime, otaku, and Japanese culture for well over a decade I feel pretty confident in saying most of us in this community couldn't care less and just love to see the medium we all love reaching new people. It's also worth noting that anime and manga has kind of been ahead of the curve when it comes to LGBTQ+ representation, as the BL and GL genres have been popular since the 70's. (BL is Boys Love, GL is Girls love. You can probably garner what they tend to be about).
I agree with your main point but unfortunately i do see a lot of bigoted people in the anime community. Its unavoidable with anything that draws so many young men (from all over the world including very conservative places), unfortunately. Thankfully Meesh and Dee have cultivated a good community and any hater who stumbles in here will be swiftly ejected by everyone lol
@@exessen1684 Yeah I think it's unfortunately become much more common to see really toxic and sometimes bigoted people in the anime community in recent years as it's really blown up into the main stream. It's really bitter sweet honestly, on one hand I love seeing all sorts of new people fall in love with anime and seeing how popular it's become has been super cool. I have friends and family that refused to watch anime when we were younger that now are totally hooked. But on the other hand it's explosive popularity the past 5-6 years has definitely invited a lot of unsavory individuals into the community. While I do appreciate the worldwide phenomenon that anime has become, part of me does miss the days 10 or 15 years ago when it was a much smaller niche community where for the most part everyone just got along with each other because we all loved anime.

3 good choice of anime imo. There's a lot of recuring shitty slopes / stereotypes, more than in other media but some anime really deserve to be watched. Demon slayer is really beautiful art, Attack on Titan is beautiful but u're totally there for the mysteries; Frieren is.. a fantasy journey?! :D I'm also the kind to be obsessed with the voice actors, cuz sometimes they're just crazy good. And u picked 3 with a pretty well known cast ^^ Hope u enjoy ur journey !
Welcome aboard (with a little delay)!!! The three anime you mentioned are excellent for starters. They are all relatively "short" action oriented Shonen type (even if AOT is a bit more Seinen-mature and Freinen has a slice of life manga aspect too). You might want to explore other genre as well once you finish those three. You have just entered a world full of wonderful stories !!!
Attack on titan is really the top of anime, it has so many layers in It so yes I agree with you beginning your anime trip with Demon Slayer, dont forget to watch attack on titan after, it is more mature, writen in a way that I never saw in another anime before

i got to know of demon slayer in the early days of the manga and followed through with it 'til the end; got to experience the anime being announced and getting aired after a while and to this day, it is on my top 10 favs. it's a good anime to start with but it's also quite heavy as you saw with the very beginning of this so be prepared ! it's really epic though, so i hope you'll enjoy it :)

i think when someone turns the process immediately makes them feral and hungry cause it takes a lot of energy to turn them but since nezuko was held off long enough by tanjiro and talked out of it she could kinda shake that initial hunger off and get past it. plus she might just have a high tolerance initially for some other reason.
I would say the biggest difference between sub and dub is the cadence. Even a fantastic dub voice actor can come off sounding super awkward because they have to match their cadence to the mouth flaps of the characters they are voicing. And because Japanese and English have such different rhythms and sentence structures, you often get words being drawn out awkwardly. The original language will always have the superior version for that reason alone. Also anime characters are often super exaggerated caricatures of real life stereotypes. So theres going to be a huge difference in performance between someone who is immersed in that culture vs someone who is not.
Pretty solid first anime series. When you have free time, you should also watch to the peak of anime that is Attack on Titan. It is pretty long, so I'll understand if you don't react to it. But you can at least watch it.
Wait, ya'll haven't seen Demon Slayer!! I started watching it when it aired, and after the 3rd episode came out. I ended up getting my gf hooked on it as well, and we've been watching each season and the movie together ever since! Even dressed up as Tanjiro and Nezuko for Halloween. Can't wait for you two to start this wild journey!
First anime series. Here's a tip. Sometime things in the show don't make since, and you have to just tell yourself "because anime" and move on. Like smelling emotions and which metal is better ( you'll see)
In Japan age is important, those who are younger HAVE to treat anyone older than them with a ton of respect, calling someone by their first name out of the blue is disrespect, so for example siblings never call their older siblings by their names, they literally call them brother or sister to talk to them or to refer to them. They also don't have a neutral way to say brother or sister, they have specific words for older sister, older brother, younger sister and younger brother, so they can't refer to their siblings without automatically say their gender and if they're older or younger than them. To us it might sound like over exposition but it is how they truly talk.
Great first anime choice. Only downside is that the Studio that creates the anime(Ufotable) is hands down the best quality you will get when it comes to animation production. Everything after will be a down grade lol.

You should 'watch blue eye samurai' it's kinda similar to arcane in amazing visuals and storytelling.
Also it is definitely a adult series so yeah
