Yeah, with anime, it's a lot of inner monologuing that's either voiced as the characters' thoughts or characters expressing them out loud. It's a lot of showing while telling in anime cause most are adaptations of Mangas(comics) where the action is in still panels so the characters describe what's happening. Great reaction as always.❤
yeah, anime adaptations kinda struggle with the many text boxes some manga have, especially the ones that have a lot of inner monologue or narration, because how do you translate those text boxes to animation? shonen manga (manga for teenage boys) also do a lot of exposition because of the target audience, but while being a shonen and after the first episodes (where there's a lot of wordbuilding and exposition is kinda unavoidable), Demon Slayer actually is more of a "show don't tell" series imo. the author does a good job balancing dinamic and informative panels, with beautiful drawings that tell you exactly what is happening and text that adds to that. the manga doesn't really feel exposition heavy imo, again, except from the first eps and some other episodes here and there. there's just a lot of inner monologue and flashbacks to understand the characters and their actions, but doesn't feel like they're repeating/explaining everything that is happening. the anime eventually also finds that balance.
In addition to the "inner monologue" and such, another very common pattern you will see in anime is something referred to as "anime time": in these cases, there may be a lot of hectic stuff going on in the scene, but somehow the characters will still have the time & attention to engage in a conversation of some kind, despite the action, as if the characters have an isolated, frozen moment in time in which to talk. In bad cases, it might seem out of place & jarring, but in the best cases, it's done specifically to highlight a character moment that grabs your attention SO MUCH that you don't even notice it happening in the moment.
Oh, I can't wait till you get to see a proper fight scene. Demon Slayer has some of the best fight animations. Also as a note, think of the demons more like vampires than anything.
They're a mix between vampire (not going out into the sun) and ghouls (eating flesh and not just blood) I like both monster so i kinda like the mix of it too
I've been following you two since Castlevania's reactions, I'm glad you're entering the world of anime, Demon Slayer is a great start, I hope you like it, lots of love from Brazil💚
@@MeeshDeeReacts LiSa is really famous and has done a lot of anime music work, normal music and maybe even acting?! (i don't remember) The drama surrounding her is kinda sad, so i don't recommend checking it but her voice and her work is a blessing ^^
You may see more exposition from shows that have been adapted from shonen manga, whose primary audience is teenage boys. Because the original format is a comic book, you would have read more thoughts or narrative explanations. It also depends on the storytelling style of the original creator. Demon Slayer seems to have a lot of exposition as you can hear the thought processes of the characters.
Always happy to see a new react notification from yall! Letsgoooo 7:07 welcome to Tanjiro's incredibly hard head. This is a tool that will help us later! 😅
The inner monologue is helpful in the long run though cause there's going to be new terms and scenarios that both the viewer and character is confused about. It will explain why a certain action was made or why this character says something like this cause there are multiple times where the characters are hard to figure out because of their demeanor or there's an anime trope being done. So kindly observe their mouths if it's moving or not😂
lol it was fun hearing you chatting about one of the most prevalent anime b.s. tropes - the over-explanation so that there is no ambiguity about motivation.
just finished on commending on your first reaction and notice we have another ! about the over explaining. in anime there is alot of inner monolog , alot of the time ull hear thougths, be ware that the first season is way slower since there is alot of new info that comes every episode. dont warry ! it will grow on u ! one thing that all anime fan can say for sure, demon slayer have one of the best animation from the "newest generation" anime, so dont forget the enjoy that too, most of the veteran anima fan have started when animation was very bad and seen Demon slayer was cinema ! cant wait to see more of u 2 !
I think the reason why you see so much inner monologs in anime is that a lot of them are adapted from mangas. They only have a few panels to show a scene, so the manga writers have to describe what is happening or what a character is feeling via inner monologs. Most amines are trying to stay as true to the adaptation as possible so the monologs stay in.
Strangely enough, I think even for anime, Demon Slayer has a lot of "telling" than "showing". It's very common in anime for characters to explain their thought processes, however what I have noticed in Demon Slayer is an over-explanation of what is alrealdy being shown to us. So I understand what you guys are trying to say, and just so you know, not every anime is like that.
Well, You couldn't have picked a better anime to start with. My first time was with "Re:Creators". And after all this time, it still stands as one of the best series I've watched. Hopefully you get that same good feeling of wanting MORE anime while watching Demon slayer as I had with Re:Creators... After it finished I just wanted MORE ANIME! I believe my second series was "Gangsta" and my 3rd was "Death parade"... Death parade is still one of my fav OP's..
Just a reminder it's demon slayer is the King of animation 👑💖I'm obsessed with dmkny. I've watched all the reactors of dmkny😅 hoping to see you guys react all the seasons here are the peak s1 ep19 ,s2 ep10 never give up😅s3 ep11 and the king 👑 s4 ep8 it will blow ur mind the animation too insanely crazy 😂after that we all waiting for the trilogy movie I'm mostly excited for my favourite demon upper moon 1 kokushibo 💖 vs genya, muichiro sanami and the strongest hashira gyomei 😊
Naw I disagree on the hatchet demon because he didn't say what just happened he expressed his regret. Also I've seen many American shows/movies where characters monologue their reasons for doing things so I don't really see it.
The show does a great job of mixing CG with traditional animation, at least until the CG gets really heavy eventually, and becomes a bit more obvious. This version of "demons" is extremely close to vampires, to continue the Castlevania theme. The exposition might be a bit heavier in the beginning, because they have more to explain during the world-building phase. My biggest anime cliche peve is when characters say or yell each others' names to express emotion, without saying anything else.
Indeed, even as a Japanese person, I think this work is overly descriptive, but I guess the intention is for it to appeal to everyone. You'll get used to it eventually^^
A lot of people are bothered by the internal dialogue, which is def an anime thing. I saw the pinned comment but I just wanted to say yall aren't alone in your reaction to it lol

One thing to remember about Demon Slayer:
When there's a fight scene, the animation department will suddenly gain an unlimited budget.
😂😂
😂
For real. When Meesh said the animation goes hard in the opening, I just thought "oh, just you wait". 😂
Be aware that some episodes have an after credits scene.
all episodes

Yup, she instantly became the darling of anime when this show released.

Over-explanation is common in the Shounen anime genre, whether action or sports; it's not usually common in other genres.

Anime: Spy x Family
Movie: Joseph the King of Dreams

All demons were once human, as you saw with how Nezuko transformed. So it’s not too crazy to consider that they are conscious and intelligent
