As Japanese, I’ve always wondered if it’s the cultural difference how people react to the arm. I saw many reactors said “Why did you show it to mom!?” But it’s normal in Japan. When we had a huge earthquake and tsunami, many people tried to find their family even just a part of their body for years. We say “Congrats. Your dad finally came back, now you can cremate him properly.” kinda thing to people who could find their family. So maybe it’s different depending on religion or something??

I do think that bringing the arm to the mom is something good (and I would guess that the majority of people in the West would agree with me), it's just the way it's being done here that seems brutal, just presenting it to her without preparing her even just a little bit beforehand
Enjoy this masterpiece of a show! Nobody I have ever introduced to this show has disliked it. It’s confusing at times but I promise you, everything is explained in due time. This is one of the most well thought out series I’ve ever seen and there are essentially no plot holes, so many minor details matter. Watch the first 3-5 episodes (they are only 20 minute episodes) and I can guarantee that you two will be hooked. As much fun as I think you’ll have watching this series for the first time, in my experience, people’s 2nd watch through is even better because they pick up on so much more! With that said I want to encourage you to screen all comments and do precisely ZERO googling because major things will get spoiled for you. DO NOT STOP WATCHING THE EPISODES UNTIL YOU SEE A “… to be continued” card. A lot of episodes have important post credit scenes that tie into what’s coming up!! When you get to the second half of Season 3 and the second half of Season 4, DO NOT WATCH THE INTROS because both contain MASSIVE SPOILERS! At the very least wait until episode 17 of Season 3 and episode 22 in Season 4 before watching these intros. Anyway, can’t wait to watch you two react!
