5 years and 810K views later, and you're still saving people lots of time and money. Thank you very much for putting this out there. My shower faucet cartridge was stuck in the open position with water unable to shutoff. I was convinced I was going to have to call a plumber for an afterhours visit, but this 7 min video was the saving grace. You rock!

Still helping people in 2021. About 2 and half hours ago (around 8pm), my wife came into my office and told me the shower wouldn't turn off. She called an emergency plumber, but I got on youtube and found your video. Part was $51 at Home Depot with tax and the plumber was going to cost $59 just to show up. Works great! Thanks again for the tutorial.

I just want to thank you for creating this fix it video. My shower wouldn't turn off the evening of March 3, 2019. After spending 30 minutes trying to turn the damn water off myself lol I came across your video. In less then ten minutes I was able to turn off my water (shut off valve was in the basement). Next day I got the parts and was able to remove and install everything in within 30 min. I spent $10 on the key for move the handle (it came in a set) and $36 on the cartridge totaling $46. Im a mom of four girls so the little ladies were pretty impressed. Thanks again!!!

I don't know that I've ever commented on a TH-cam video or not, but if I have it's been something short like "awesome." Nothing like the heaps of praise I'm going to give you for putting this out there. Thank you so much for this video!!! Early this morning (5:30a local), I took a shower. When I finished, the cartridge seized up and when I tried to turn it off, I felt it give and then it just freely rotated. I was hoping it was just an issue with the handle, but after watching your video I was convinced it wasn't. To be safe, I turned off the water, removed the handle, and then twisted the nob but the water kept flowing (after I turned it back on of course). I then turned the water back off, removed the pieced and trucked it on down to the orange box and picked up a replacement. Got home, through it in there and put it all back together just like you did (I had a piece that wasn't their so your reminder take take pictures really helped!) and sure enough, my problem is solved!!
Thank you again for throwing this video out there!! If you hadn't, I may not have had the confidence to replace the piece!

I lost my husband and older brother just hours from each other...my older taught me a lot about roofing, minor electrical, construction, and plumbing. If I ever mentioned I was having issues with anything around the house, he'd ALWAYS say "don't mess with it, I'll be there this weekend" - we lived 2 hours away from each other. Or he would tell me step by step how to fix it. I was almost in tears because he isn't around to teach me anymore...you - taught me something my brother and I had never had the need to tackle. Didn't want to call a plumber, as I try to do things on my own. But this time I was clueless and missing my older brother terribly. Thank you, for taking the time to make this tutorial video. It took me 2 tries as an associate in Hone Depot had given me the wrong replacement part, after physically giving/showing him what I needed. When I went the 2nd time because it wouldn't go completely in...I knew something wasn't right. Found the correct piece on my own, when I went back. So yeah...I appreciate you🙏

I have the same message as everyone else, thank you so much for posting! I did it from 9 to 11pm last night but was able to do it exactly right because of your video! You provide great details and a step-by-step, thanks a million!
FYI for those who have trouble getting off 'the screw' on the handle - it required me to purchase an SAE set (mine was 5/32). Allen wrenches may not work, but the SAE does for the MOENs.

I'm a complete novice and I was able to successfully complete this repair. I had to make a slight adjustment, the new part refused to go completely in so I had to swap out the rubber siding from the old for the new. It fit perfectly. Also the locking vice grips works far better that the pulling tool. Thanks for saving me a call to the plumber and many $$.

I’m not sure when you posted this but I’m writing this in March 2020. Last night I went to take a bath. Filled the tub. Water won’t go off!! I called my mom for help, NOTHING worked! It’s 10 pm on a Friday not to mention I didn’t want to call a plumber. I put a search in TH-cam and your video came up. I turned the house water off like you said, took out the part. Got up early this morning and went to Lowe’s. It worked!!! You probably saved us like $1000 especially to call a plumber on a Saturday. HUGE thank you!! I never leave comments but I wanted you to know how much I appreciate your video!!

Thank you. This helped alot. I wasn’t able to get the clip back in. The cartridge is not completely flushed with the valve. I pushed, banged and even used the removal tool to hold it while I push it in and banged. That helped but it’s still not flushed. It’s put back together and working now (the water shuts off). Hopefully this will hold until I can renovate that bathroom. Thanks.

The part he mentions that you will need to get the cartridge out (if it doesn't come out with a tug) comes with the new part. Just look for the package includes what appears to be a round, white cap as a separate part from the cartridge. It should come with instructions that show you how to use that part to get the old cartridge out. I just replaced one this morning after watching this video. I spent $55 on the cartridge and two hours of my time after calling 4 plumbers none of which answered or returned my calls. I probably saved myself $400.

@@LatinTotal Thanks. Did it this Sunday with my son. Thankfully had watched other videos as well and got the moen cartridge puller. Without that, I would've been stuck. That valve had been in there for around 10 years and wasn't coming out. Is it normal though that the new valve is very sensitive. IE the handle moves so easily now like it needs no or very little pressure to turn it. It works fine otherwise.

Thanks for making this DIY video. I had the exact same problem, but didn't know how to fix it until I watched your vid. Thank you.

Best Practice: Before you start disassembling the shower valve, which includes a small screw, clips..etc. cover the bathtub drain with a plug, or painter's tape or a rag. If one of the tiny parts happens to slip from your fingers during disassembly and assembly, it won't end up down your drain.

Just did this myself when the tub/shower faucet wouldn't shut off. Luckily, my cartridge came out fairly easily using just pliers. A quick trip to Menards, $35, and about 10 minutes later, and we're good to go! Thanks for the video!
