First time I’ve watched one of your videos. Excellent! Fast paced without being too quick. Assumes a degree of common sense but focuses on where you need to pay attention. Was undecided on upgrading my old Zumo but easy decision thanks to your video.
Thanks for creating this review, it's really helpful for us on older GPS units understanding the capabilities of the new XT2. Think it's time for an upgrade from my 12 year old Montana. Thanks again.
I decided to pull the trigger after watching your videos. The XT2 is really a massive upgrade from the older tech. Had my first couple of rides this weekend with it and I'm really pleased. Garmin did a good job on this unit. Thanks again for the great videos. Cheers.
Many thanks. I hope your trip goes well and I look forward to your report after your trip that's if I have not missed it. My XT2 should arrive today. 😀
I have both units, I've noticed that once the tread app has been activated with the XT2, if you make a route on your phone the route also syncs and appears on the XT1 and works, its just that garmin will not allow you to use the tread app to send routes for the XT1 unless you buy a XT2.
I just bought an XT a few months ago. Good thing I got $100 off. I'm also still using a Zumo 660 on my dual sport bike because I have spent so many years adding in all the roads that no longer or never existed as avoidances.
Thanks for making this video. I have tried motorcycle navigating with my phone using several apps, and three different Garmin navs. (BMW NAV5, NAV6, and XT) The Garmins suck at creating a custom route, especially using the device itself. Base Camp is straight out of the 1990s. Let us know how the XT2 works during the trip.
Base camp is the worst. I have taken to creating routes on the Tom Tom online routing stuff and exporting the gpx. Garmin is so behind the times in so many ways and they don’t stand behind their products at all.
Basecamp is a headache I moved to Kurviger which is much more intuitive, found a tutorial on YT so make trips in GPX and transfer. The XT2 looks interesting for sure. If I move away from my GS and Nav5 I'll get the X2
Thanks for the great review, Ive always used TomTom with my route app but my rider 400 finally gave up after heavy rain got into it. Ive had a BMW Nav 5 before but didn't really like it, I've avoided the Nav 6 because of the many problems I've seen but now I think the XT2 could be the way forward now my TomTom has died.
Saw this vid in my feed. Not heard of the XT2 before. I have the XT. But what did interest me is the mount that you used. I am using the supplied RAM mount on my V-Strom 1050XT's accessory bar above the dash. Sticks out a mile. This flatter mount fits the bill perfectly. Thanks for the video. Looks like you have some interesting places to ride (I'm in Australia). Would love to tour Europe before I get too old.
Thank you for the review... I think your way of organizing the trip is quite useful, I do much the same I'm glad you included those portions in the review. I was also tickled to see you live near Horton - I visited there several time for business some years ago and loved the area. Enjoy your ride in Iceland!
I have had the experience of designing a route using Tread only to have the XT2 refuse to use it for some unknown reason. Map versions difference is my guess. At least with BaseCamp the maps can be an exact match. I will pre plan with BC, but will use Tread or Route Planner for Ad-Hoc adventures.
I had a similar experience. I downloaded a gpx in tread, named it, and even though the zumo xt was synced, the route will not show up on the garmin. Does anyone know how to get this file to transfer over? It's very strange. Im currently riding the MABR and have to run the file on my phone not my lovely new $600 GPS!
Really good video. I recently did a video on my channel where I converted from Garmin Nav6 to TomTom Rider 550. However in the comments lots of people mention the Garmin Zumo & XT. I've never heard of it. I'm very interested in this model you just showed. I love the group ride feature. I'm guessing the only issue with that is everyone else would also need the same unit. I'm going to give my TomTom a fair chance, but I could be looking at changing it to this unit. Have a great trip in Iceland.
@SoTiredButWired o. Ok cool. I now have the XT2 on my GSA. I converted the BMW cradle so it locks with the BMW key without any 3d printed parts. It's sits nice & im living the XT2. I've watched your videos a few time now about the Tread app. When are you doing the Iceland trip? I'm really looking forward to watching that.
Just completed a 30 ride through Mexico and Central America, unfortunately the Garmin does not maps for Central America. Can you recommend 3rd party maps and how to install
Thanks for a really great explanation 👍 I will look at upgrading my Zumo XT when I can afford it 😃 where can I get the great mount for the handlebars please? Ride safe 👍 cheers Karl in Aussie 😃
Does it support voice commands? Probably not. I have a 595 and most of what you showed other than the new routing my old Garmin can do. I mostly use google maps on my cellphone and use the Garmin as a back up. How does it handle off route, has that improved at all? With the 595 it would abandon you planned route and switch to shortest route.
Helpfull video I have got a question how do you update these maps does it work with WiFi or so just like the TomTom rider 550 or should you connect it to a computer. Because I dont have a windows computer only a chromebook
Did you considered the Garmin Tread Overland before getting the XT2? Trying to decide between the two since my Zumo 550 is falling apart and I am missing out on having a good GPS when going off-roading/camping on my motorcycle...
Two questions is the unit supplied with a car mounting unit? I have a bmw car and the dealer charges €80 for car maps update, pure robbery. How are you transporting yourself and bike to Island/Iceland? Have a great and safe trip. Your English is superb and better than many native speakers in the U.K.
Great Review, have just purchased a Zumo XT2, im keen to use the same mount as yours to keep it neat and close to bar clamps, Where did you source the mount?
I’ve owned the Garmin zumo Garmin overlander and Garmin Inreach mini2 but have sold off that over 1000$ in equipment and replaced it with a I pad mini 6 cellular model running OnX off-road and the map quality is night and day better then Garmin and the iPad works much better and has longer battery life then any Garmin device it’s also much easier to plan routes and made area maps on OnX I replaced my 400$ inreach with the 100$ spot x have not tested that though
how did you like the spotX as a replacement for the InReach? is your iPad mini cellular with OnX still working great for you? I just got a new bike, this is all new to me, and I'm not thrilled about investing 1000 bucks in an XT2 and an InReach, so…
I bought a Nav6 (which is made by Garmin) for my BMW which quickly went faulty and I had it exchanged for a new one, that went faulty also and the one after that, I'm now on my 4th one which has also started to show signs of going faulty. I thought I can't be bothered getting another Nav6 only for that to go faulty as well so 6 months ago I bit the dust and bought an XT, now I find that Garmin has brought out the XT2, I really hate Garmin now🤬
Is the routing use curvy route fast now? Garmin are so slow in calculating routes, TomTom is way faster. And what is with 500 turns? Still there? We want a 1200km route, ny friends TomTom need only 4-5 minutes with only twisted route . My garmin calculate 20 minutes stoped with no result. Because of 500 turns. Do we have still 50 waypoints? All these small things are annoying
You can manage the collection on the device. If you are looking at the list of routes in explore, hit the eclipses …. And use select and edit. Then you can edit the route. If you have already selected the route and are looking at the map with the route, try pressing the wrench 🔧 icon
Gia a vedere come viene caricata la cartina, a blocchi e non con immagine fluida, nel 2024 un navigatore che costa 600 €, sembra di vedere i primi display degli anni novanta, se lo tenga la garmin

@@K5KTM is there any good alternative to the XT2 in 2024? it sounds like the tomtom products are similarly bad…

Everyone doesn't need to have the XT2 to use the group ride feature. Anyone who doesn't have it can just download the app for their smart phone.

Interesting video, but I wish you have shown how to transfer from app to Garmin 😢
Excellent video. Perfectly explained and easy to follow. Thanks a lot.
Can you please share some more information on the mount you have on your bike. Looks very neat.

Just to say I have bought a usb c connector and you get full screen brightness.
Thx for this. I use it already, come from xt. Used BC so far and currently Tread app gives me a bit of a headache….
That doesn't sound too good. Works well for me. Did you find a bug?
@@techstuffandmore no bug :) just find it Not comfortable when adjusting the route. Need to get used to it probably 🤷♀️
@@frankclassen4830 did you ever get used to it?
Am new to all this, and I am a bit surprised of how clunky the Zumo looks…

Hello I just got one. I was wondering what the symbols in the collection means. I got one route with blue point to point symbol and 1 with footsteps.
With the Garmin Zumo XT 2 do you no longer need the Garmin Drive phone app? Only Tread ?
garmin Tread App is excellent with it in conjunction

👍 interesting and helpful, thanks
Can you still use Basecamp on a pc, and sync directly to the unit like the previous XT. “

Short answer is, not worth it.
Why? Stupid comment.
Thank you
Short answer really is: way easier route mapping capability. May be worth it to those who aren’t a master at BaseCamp.
How do you know? Have you used and tested them both?
