Thank you so much Dennis, and thank you so much for the support with the dongle. Can't wait to see what comes of all this in the upcoming years. And we really need to let people know that there is great support here in Norway as well. Team TurTek, SKÅL!
It is just like google maps on a smartphone really responsive, great screen, both with and without gloves. This is the future, and I can't see anyone being remotely close to what these people have put together.
Ive been using DMD2 for a few years now here in the US and I brag about it to all my friends. I use the Tripletek T9pro since the DMD devices were not even available. Like you, I dumped the Zumo XT with the frustration of the Syncing and other issues like BT comms. Sure I have a few wish list items on the DMD, but I know that it is on the To-Do-List.Such as the sharing and saving of waypoints in GPX format vs Google maps url since many places in the US backcountry do not have mobile data. Thanks for a very nice video, I will share it with non-believers.
I can't begin do describe how much frustration I had with the zumo this year. It was just minutes away from being tossed in the river 😂 I really can't stand when tech don't work in the most simple matter. The one thing that impress me the most, is how much work, ongoing support and adding new features on this device. I'm not sure how many upgrades I have had on the unit since I got it and it has only become better. I see great things in the future with this system. And it is just a matter of time before everyone sees it. thank you so much for the support and sharing your experience. Cheers ☕️
@@tshansen I was so frustrated too. I started using commercial Garmin in 1999 with a GPS3+, then the 276c, followed by the 478 and finally the ZumoXT. I was able to sell my XT to someone who wanted it. Side note: I fly DJI drones too, so the T9pro tablet works great for that too.
@@swashplate That is a really good idea... just a cable hanging from the side and you can see the drone screen on it. Why did I not think of that before.... Cheers mate, truly appreciate this 🙌🏻
Excellent video product as usual, ive been using DMD2 on the TriplTek T9Pro, but the backlight failed after 16 months and the excellent folks at Thork Racing collected the tablet, and offered a replacement like for like or a re platform to the 865X with mounts etc etc which i accepted, should arrive today. I really have to say the folks at Thork Racing excellent to deal with, bikers and a real professional outfit.
This, stories like this is what makes me extra happy when It comes to Thork Racing. You hear so many of similar situations where people just get the support and customer service they deserve. Compared to other brands out there (will not name names) 🤪 Glad you got all sorted and have a new unit on the way. Cheers
@@tshansen new system arrived yesterday evening, tablet setup and updated and mounting to the bikes today. The 865 is the perfect size, and the screen is really bright. No excuse for getting lost now.
Oh Lord !!! Thomas . Finally you get it 😁 I have been using tablet for many yers now . Garmin was good at the start but never met my demands . Then was Carpe Iter and now we have DMD by Thorx . Welcome aboard 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 Enjoy it mate . We need to meet some day and chitt - chatt a little 😉🙃
Hahaha, you are allowed to tell me all about it mate. I'm so late to the party it is embarrassing 🙈 We need to hook up when I'm getting back from my next trip, I'm back in October. 🔥
Ive been using the DMD2 software on a spare Android phone and I love it. Game-changer! I even use it with a cheap OBD adapter on my RE Super Meteor 650. Can't wait to try the 865 tablet!
I really hope that too mate. It's unbelievable how much negative stuff people spread because something does not fit with their reality or what they are willing to spend.
@@babar69110 Yeah, I just had a run trough all deals that was connected to my credit card the other day, everything from music services, streaming stuff on TV (I don't use anymore) Old live subscription for the xbox, and what not. A old gym membership. It was ridiculous. I could finance a new bike every month with all that money
Really hope to take a look at one of these here in the States one of these days. I moved over to TomTom years ago to avoid Garmin but would love a more integrated and off-road focused system. Thanks!
Cool Tjommi, it will be very interesting to see Your progress with Thork Racing's nice package for ADV navigation. I really like the way You put this out with the last sentences about the people behind the DMD2 doing doing what theybare good at for us riders. Thats appreciated by me as well. Great vid Tjommi! 👍
Yeah, it is finally fun to plan routes, collect waypoints and really geek out on this stuff again. Everything just works so perfectly togehter. And the new group ride feature will be sick as hell. You and the braaaap boys will love that. Yeah, I feel people who spend so much time perfecting a product that does so much for us, we really need to appreciate that more. And it can't be said loud enough. Thank you for the support tjommi, you know I love it 🙌🏻
@@tshansenHehe, recognize that! To geek into new stuff. That makes a hobby alive and if it's really good it it also add joy and a more effective hobby, some even game changing. Good stuff gets good support ☝️😁
I had this system for 2 years ever since there was the carpe iter pad. It saved me when I had a mud blockage with my GS. It is really hard to write here how it saved me but I promise to tell you all about it when you come down here in Romania at my cabin. Congrats on the video and enjoy the nice device !
Yeah, I have gotten the impression from some of your videos how happy you are with the system. I really can't understand why I have been so reluctant to try it myself? Like it was to new or scary. But it is never too late to learn something new, and I'm glad I did. Can't wait to come down there and visit you mate. Me and the two others are planing it every year 😂
Ahh good for you - I was an early adopter and have made 2 plus 40 day trips. You will find this tool will give you more options with your travels. Cheers
I'm hugely impressed so far. I have used it for 2 weeks on the road in my car as well, and this will be used on all my adventures going forward. Absolutely love it for my use. Cheers 👏🏻
I been using Garmin/basecamp last 15 years and now starting to look for some thing more up to date and think i found it. Option for E-Sim is a big must for me, just got home from Montenegro & Bosnia, down there its pretty good to have a Esim option, looking forward to see that option at the DMD, rest looks really good.
I'm not sure how the e-sim is working out, but from what I have read online, it looks like there will be an update with this really soon. A see only benefits with including this. I have been using Garmin basecamp myself for many years now, and it surprise me that no other think about making a clone or something that is similar but yet digital. We have a lot of goodness to look forward to in the upcoming years. It is a great time to be a customer of different solution I think. Cheers ☕️
Very impressive overview of the DMD2 suite of solutions! And top notch video quality. Welcome to the party, you are not too late and perhaps your perspective is enhanced after the many app/hardware improvements which have been put in place before you arrived. It's the remote that drew me in a few years ago and I still can't believe Garmin hasn't figured out how important this is for bikers. You didn't spend much time covering what DMD2 combined with a remote can do, but it's a game changer for ease of app use while riding. Cheers!
Thank you sir, and highly appreciated. Always nice when people are impressed by my creative outlet trough videos 🙌🏻 Well, I do think, after so many years with Garmin, I know exactly what I want and need in a navigational system. So it is easy to be impressed when everything just works. But on the other side, it is really easy to be disappointed when stuff does not work as planed. I did not spend too much time on the controller in this video, because you really don't need it for the system to work perfectly. Yes, it is an insanely useful addition to it all, and one of my key selling point for this. But I need to cover more of that in a stand alone video for the ones who have interest for it. I don't want to come off like you NEED to have the controller for all this to work. (if that make sense) I will also make a video where I try out roadbook for the first time and how well every thing works regarding that. I hope that more beginners find the joy in trying new stuff with their bikes in the future.
Yeah, it is absolutely amazing, are you getting the app for your new tablet? Would be cool to compare on our upcoming trip how the two devices perform with the same software 🙌🏻
Excellent review! I have the TM-d665 phone version and it works incredibly well, but that tablet is even brighter and easier to read! May need to sell the phone and get the tablet next!
Thank you, glad you liked it. I'm so impressed by this myself. I use it in my car as well. And it has proven to be such a great unit for all my needs. I will make some follow up videos where I showcase all this.
Well, I gotta say I have been watching a ton of the DMD videos and I finally pulled the plug and ordered the T865X with the DMD 2 handlebar controller. If anyone is debating to make this jump, just go ahead and do it. It is sooooooo much better than the Garmin world that I was in for so many years. The DMD community board forums are great when you need support. The setup was beyond easy for me on a KTM 790R and I am so much blown away by the performance. Its so cool to just have my other apps right there on the tablet with the DMD software on the tablet.
It is damn impressive right? 👏🏻 Congrats on your new system as well mate. I always thought it was such a gimmick to have more than one app available and just a nice to have more than I need to have. But damn was I wrong. I use my phone all the time searching up places to wild camp, eat, fuel etc. It was so damn cumbersome to write and search on the Garmin device. Now, with a press of a button and you have everything within the same system and unit. And as you say, the forum and home page online, with the community and support is just awesome.
I can’t stress enough to anyone wanting to pull the plug to just go ahead and make the purchase. It’s a small investment but it really pays for itself. I no longer have to watch endlesss videos on how to effectively use BaseCamp or how you have to link up Explore to you phone and device depending on which XT you have. I love MyRouteapp for planning. I can’t begin to tell you how powerful it is to have it right on the tablet screen along with say Google Maps. The DMD2 software by itself is amazing. Happy I made this purchase. I will be selling my XT2 in the next week
What a great piece of kit. I run the dmd2 software on a S10 phone. Not as good as having the big screen but it’s great. The dongle that’s syncs rpm etc is awesome. The only thing I find with it is it doesn’t give you much warning via the audio when you need to turn… settings maybe?Interesting to see how the unit on your mates Cagiva compares Great video👍
I really like how you can run this software on any android device, it makes it so much more accessible for people. I mute all of that stuff anyway. Don't want any audio in the helmet or from the tab. I'm looking forward to test it up against Hestad new tablet and see how it goes there. And I'm looking forward to see and hear his bike again. It looks great now .
Very tempted, being a long time Garmin user it would be a hard jump. But it seems there is a lot more capable applications that's available. Especially if it's work with media.
The hardest jump is the pricing, but holy crap it is so much more valuable than a Garmin unit. I use this now both on my bike and in my car. I have a couple of different apps I use for navigation (DMD2, google maps and Stegra) and I use TH-cam and some podcast apps for entertainment and media. It is something you can use your phone for, yes. But to have it in one unit on the go is worth the extra price.
Good report TS. Since I don't have a current Garmin unit this makes the decision to get DMD2 much easier. I like and appreciate the convenience of electronics. Could intercom be run thru this unit? One less device on the bars. You aren't a fool. We all learn as we can. It's the change we have trouble accepting. Confidence, knowledge, training all help this situation. Robert has done a great job in the training segment. Everybody listens to a man who wheels a sword like Zorro. All good. Get those rides in while you can. Next time.
Unless you are a hardcore road rider, there is no point considering a Garmin unit. I really did not think to much about having the different options so available. I had the phone in my pocket, but every time you stop, you need to take it out, do a search etc. It just takes to much time and effort after a long day. Much better to have it easy accessible on the dash. Well, I might not be a fool, but I feel like it when I know that I have convinced others to jump on the Zumo train and it feels a little bit bad. But like you say, we learn, we become better and the worlds spins every minute. Yeah, Robert has done a great job with showing how capable this devices are and how well it all works together with software etc. Next time mate, stay safe ☕️
@@tshansen Ian, @ Big Rock Moto has tried several units and types. He did a vid a couple weeks back He agrees this is best going. He gets to try everything and does a great job on his evaluations. I copy your and Robert's vid links for him. He appreciated the views. We all are learning. To me having a separate powered independent unit from the phone is great. My Samsung is hell in hot weather overheating and battery dying. All good. Take care.
I run a Tripletek T9pro and have used both Cardo and Sena systems. In the T9, I only use a Data sim card, and an App called Bridge. Bridge connects your phone to the tablet and uses the phone number of your phone. BUT if you use WhatsApp or similar, then there is no issues since that phone number is shared across platforms. FYI I am in the USA so my setup might not work where you are.
Finally , the algorithm suggested something useful. I have been looking for a standalone unit since getting lost using google maps, looking towards the Garmin but this video seriously made me reconsider.
Great video, it had me finally convinced that a DMD is a must have on my 2021 Yamaha XT1200. I don’t go that much off-road but it seems to be a brilliant device also for an ‘average’ biker that enjoy both tarmac and a bit of gravel 👍
Sounds like you enjoy much the same as me, and this is a perfect device for that usage. Extra nice is it how well it handles tracks, recordings and navigations towards point of interest etc.
It looks like a nice alternative. Where I live in interior Alaska I need the satellite communication with the Inreach system, and the piece of mind having the SOS button on my Garmin Montana 700i. As there are many locations here without cellular service, and in this region the Inreach has better service than other satellite communication companies. So it can really depend on where one is traveling, on what system is preferred. I do wish there were more alternatives, so this is nice to see someone developing competition for Garmin. Thanks for the installation video, and I look forward to further reports on how it works for you.
This is a really god topic that is not addressed enough. With the new satellite communication with iPhone now, I'm not sure how that holds up against in reach? I know for a fact how well inreach works so that is a system you can rely on. I would would rather get a mini hanging on my body, than have it on the sat nav on the bike, but it is still an extra cost that you need to take into consideration. Damn, this is actually a topic I should consider doing a video about 🤔
@@tshansen Personally I have activated the iPhone SOS more than once when it was in my pocket using both button call method options. In both cases the phone was hot and angry so I was neither able to stop the SOS or even shutdown/reboot the phone. That was enough for me. I will not be using it again until I have very high confidence it cannot readily trigger a false alarm while just in my pocket on a ride. Regarding the 700i, the downside is that device is on your bike, if you get separated from your bike for some reason you may not be able to activate it. I always carry my mini on my person and somewhere I can actually reach it in case I get pinned under the bike (which has happened) or separated from the bike.
you might want to check out the Organic Maps. Not sure why they chose this name, but it's open source, and works without internet connection. You need to download the maps you'll be using upfront, but after that it's able to plan your routes locally, on your device. Very useful for locations with poor service.
Evening Thomas, I think the wire connectors are called, Solder seal wire connectors. 👍 Garmin are so behind the times now, the processors they use in the units are very slow, where as all these new alternatives seem to work so much better. The DMD2 looks brilliant and the remote is a big bonus too. You could basically remove the Yamaha instrumentation, and just have the DMD2, although I guess you don’t get the mileage reading and the fuel and temperature gauges.
Solder is the right word, I thought it was to close to soldier 😂 thank you for adding this info Solder seal wire connectors... need to write that down. They are absolutely fantastic. Garmin is not even playing in the same field anymore. From what I can tell they have all their focus on watches. But what irritates me the most is how incredible slow and painful the syncing between the explorer app and the tread app is now. after the latest updates. It has rendered the unit useless for my needs. Maybe there is a way to set up the ODO to fit, I have not put to much attention to that yet, but a lot of it you could replace yes.
@@tshansenI am very satisfied. Then there are always new updates with new features, etc. After two years of use, I have a hard time finding anything better.
Saw Robert's video, now yours, Thomas - DMD-865 X is quite a feat. Lot of good things makes it a wanna-have item. After a day with Garmin's old 390 and tiny tracks showing up I'm tempted to swap. Seems that system is made by motorcycle enthusiasts. Thanks, Günter/Nürnberg
Yeah, Robert was fast with his one, I had to much stuff to mount before I could put a video together 🤣 If you try this, after owning a 390, you will be extremely impressed, no doubt about that. This system is tailored for Adventure Motorcycle. I'm so impressed by it I find myself playing around with it more than is healthy I think 😂
Great video! I am wondering if the tablet is compatible with regular motorcycle gloves. Are the gloves you are using at 17:25 normal gloves? By that I mean: no touch screen specific gloves. Thanks!
Thank you mate, glad you found it informative 🙏🏻 I'm not that familiar with reviews, but I try to put a light on the stuff I myself researched when I wanted to get mine. Cheers
I use DMDv2 on a galaxy active tab 3 and it work well too, the only stuff that is less convenient is the brightness when I have the sun reaching directly the screen, but I stand up and problem solve (create shadow ^^) And damn it is a great app, I share your feeling about the developers of this one. I use the barbuttons opensource controller (really big but do the job for me as I do not do rally ^^)
I have an active tab 3 at work, running Locus map and some other rescue apps and streaming. And I know what you talking about. I find it to be a little bit sluggish from time to time, but I think that is more on the Samsung bloatware than anything else. The DMD2 app is for me one of the most brilliant thing I have tried so far. And I have been trough most of the apps that is available on App Store today. That is the beauty with this, you really can make all of this work with so many different options. And that is perfect.
I bought the new Active5 tablet the first day it came out, it's brilliant, but I've been struggling for 6 mths, trying to come up with a way to mount it on my Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro. Spent WAY too much $$ on this and that mounts etc, trying to make something work!. It would have been cheaper just to go with the DMDv2 by far now!...assuming I would be able to mount it lol.
Looking forward to an update when you've had the chance to use it more! This GPS system looks promising. Looking for something new for myself now my TomTom Rider 550 is failing after 4 years...
Yeah, so far it has impressed me a lot, I'm currently using it on a trip in my car as well, and it is finally nice to see a system that works great on and off the bike. I got my hands on a new (Norwegian) controller as well, so I can pair it when I ride my car, it can control my iPhone when bicycle. And it can also control this unit (trough bluetooth) I will most likely make a comparison between the two controllers I got to see what works best for my needs.
Interesting video. I just removed my Garmin Zumo XT from the Tenere yesterday. After using Apple Carplay with a Carpuride W702 on my Husky 701 for 3-4 months, I have now installed it on my Tenere. I mostly use the Scenic app for navigation. In the city, however, I also like to use Google Maps for traffic information.
I see a lot of people trying out there different CarPlay options for their bikes now. This might be a better direction for many when it comes to navigation and easy access to their most used app's. I use google maps a lot also, but more to find places with their satellite images.
W702 and Scenic is the best combo I’ve tried so far. It’s so cheap compared to Garmin or DMD2, I don’t really even care if someone rips it off my bike.
Great video. I agree with your comments, love that this exists and that one isn’t locked into mass market product like Garmin etc.. Garmin has been useful for years, started using them on moto’s since 2008 but it’s frustrating because it’s made as an auto unit with motorbike aspirations. Now with regard to DMD, the only issue I’ve run into, it’s not compatible with a rather large amount of bikes. Yes the basic software works just moving it around on a bike but, the engine parameters, cell connectivity and even with the Bluetooth dongle are expenses you shell out for only to find they don’t work with your particular motorbike. I have a newer KTM 500 that has an aftermarket ECU, the stock unit is way too lean. With the DMD Bluetooth connected, no parameters come out of the aftermarket ECU besides volts! This now leaves me with a choice between running a horrible running bike with stock ECU and full DMD access or a well running bike and 1/2 the DMD not working. 🤷🏻♂️ I’ve contacted DMD and they’ve tried several things to help. In the end, either I reprogram the stock ECU which is expensive and redundant given I’ve already spent money on a well running aftermarket ECU or I accept I can only use 1/3 to 1/2 the usefulness of the DMD software. 🫤 Keep in mind, this expense is only exacerbated if you don’t already have a compatible tablet or in my case the Garmin Tread Overland Edition. 😕 Again, I’m in full support of DMD and all the hard work their crew is putting behind it but your viewers should know the expensive heartbreak myself or others unfortunately have been dealing with.
thank you for making me aware of this, and yes I do understand your frustration. For me personally, the navi page is where it shines and are what I use most, everything else is just a bonus. But it is really not cool to find out it does not work as you hoped for. Cheers mate, appreciate this comment.
I don't own a satnav unit on it's own. But I would seriously consider this over a Garmin for sure when I can afford one. Thanks for the review. Hopefully I can get one before my England to Nordkapp trip next summer.
If your planing on bying a new one, stay away from Garmin and just rather get a cheap android phone or tablet, download the software and try this out. And then you can upgrade later when you see how good it is and it fits your needs. You really don't need to spend top dollars to get this system up and going on your bike. 🙌🏻
Well. Your Norwegian rain destroyed my tomtom rider 550 the other week when I was over there. Will be keeping this in mind when I decide to buy the next satnav. Probably spring 25 now as Salt is coming, and my bikes are salt shy.
You get to test your gear properly here in Norway, that is just how it is. Sorry to hear about the rain damaging your TomTom. You should really look into this if you like a better system. And my bike is allergic to salt as well. I hope to get one more month out of the season 🙏🏻
@@tshansen yeah I got hit by what I can only describe as a wall of water. There was liquid sloshing around under the screen. Not going to lie, my bike and kit took a heavy beating that rain storm. Even my sleeping bag inside a dry bag, inside a dry bag was damp from the moisture in the air. And being military I like to think I know how to pack my kit to keep it dry.
@kedwardsTWO Yeah, and people always laugh at me when i tell them how it can be up here sometimes! There is a reason why our tent are built different, why we do like we do to keep dry! But you need to feel it and experience it for yourself to understand
Great video, as always 👌 The different ways to mount the device to different bikes would be really helpful. For example, is it easy to mount to a handlebar if you don't have access to a high level bar or tower... Cheers 👍
This seemed to take ages to arrive to you! Happy you finally got your new Toy ;) love the effort you put in making the video, seemed like you really enjoyed the process. Hope to read your comments on my videos again soon 😂 btw, those connectors are not meant to be shrunk with fire 😂
It was by choice so I could get my hands on the latest modell (865x) That was not ready earlier this year. Haha, you know me, the devil is in the details. I absolutely love the process, when I get exited about stuff I get creative. I will be back in the comment section really soon mate. I'm working on 3 different projects at the same time here, back to work again and finishing up some productions before I'm heading out on a new 3 week trip 20 of September. But I will watch your new series, but I want to take my time to enjoy it, not rush trough it. Are they not? how do you shrink them then? blowing air on them 😂
There is just no competition mate. I have used so many apps on my phone and iPad and nothing comes close. With Google Maps, DMD2 and Stegra you are set for life. 🙌🏻
That one looks great. I have tested a bit of the app and it was good. will have to install it again and delete the garmin from the wish list. thanks for a great video 👍🏻
you should try heat shrink tubing instead of electrical tape. its more weatherproof and won’t degrade over time like electrical tape does (especially from the engine heat)
I had that laying around, but I forgot to put it on before I connected it all, And I might do a better job with this if I did use a heat gun, not a lighter 🤣 But I might do some clean up of the wires in the winter.
Looks like a great solution. My two remaining questions and points why I still look at Garmin: 1. how does the unit work when getting hot? I was just riding the Utah BDR and my phone would always go into temperature warning mode. Would this happen with this tablet/phone like solution as well? 2. how about the GPS accuracy when being in truly remote areas? With Garmin being a GPS company I still feel they have an edge over other devices in situations where there’s nothing around you. Would it be possible to send satellite emergency messages or would I still need a Garmin inreach for emergency situations? If those two things are taken care of, I won’t blink with an eye and get this solution. It is mind boggling how horrible Garmin’s SW and user experience is.
This is two really good questions and good points. When it comes to heat, I have no idea. I have never tested any of my units in extreme heat. We don't get much of that up here. But I know this is a system that is widely used in Australia and US, so you might want to check that out further with someone how actually got experience with it in heat. The GPS accuracy is better on this device than my XT2. I see that on tracks I have recorded with both. And how fast it find connection after tunnels etc. Inreach is a great product, but with the new price change, I think I would rather apply for a emergency beacon and use satellite messaging on the iPhone but this is also something you really need to investigate for your area and how it works in your country. I know this can variate a lot from country to country.
You can download any mail app you want on the device and receive email. same with messenger, WhatsApp or sms. When it comes to only notifications like showing on your screen, but only from your phone I'm not sure of. I have not tested this out, since I really don't want to have this notifications myself when out riding.
I use Locus Maps since a few years for 4x4 offroad tours. Now I bought a CRF 300 R and so I found DMD2 on TH-cam. It´s the first NavSys other than LocusMaps that I´m interested in. Since 2 month I test it here and there with my old S20+ on the CRF. It has the potential to be my first choice for navigation for 4x4 and motorbike, I think I just need a little more time on, sry, off the road. What I miss is the adjustable automatic zoom depending on the driving speed. And the nature of the tracks often does not match the DMD2 map, at least in my area in northern Germany. But that's probably not due to DMD2 but rather the database. Tack för dina videos!
This is really valuable information and something I could have easily missed. I have also used the Locus Map a bit, not that much for navigation on motorcycle, but I really enjoy that app. Probably the best one besides the DMD2 on the market today. But the beauty with the android devices and this options is that you can choose and mix. On Garmin you are stuck with one, and in most cases horrible maps compared to what you have here. It is just ridiculous
@@tshansen Hallo Thomas. No i didn't I. I am aware of that Problem. In one part I rode about my experiences with the OsmAnd App compared to Locus Maps and DMD2 maps but used capital letters for the entire Name. Maybe that was to close to the Name of that bearded guy half the world was looking for some twenty years ago. Or the comment was just to long. Who knows 🤔
@@gerharddahlheimer5485 It's not easy to say. I have had issues where some comments show ut many weeks later than posted. Maybe a bug in TH-cam or like you said, hold for censorship or something. I have used most app, but on iOS, not android, I know there can be some differences. The only map I really like is Locus to be honest. I did not like Osmand and Guru
Great video and review. Curious to know how it copes in the desert with high temperatures. Tablets tent to overheat here in the desert. Would be great if this unit can handle it
That is a good question, we don't have temperatures like that up here, but the guys making them is located in Spain and Portugal so I would think they have tested this properly. But I can't give you a certain answer. Sorry 👏🏻
Wow. Thanks a lot for sharing. This summer I bought the new Garmin "flagship" for bikes, the "Garmin Tread". It's good, but not as great as promised. The processor is so slow, that it took the device about 15 minutes to "re-navigate" after a wrong turn. Besides that the screen of the Garmin is so slow, that I can almost paint the new map myself. I would even be willing to put up with all these shortcomings, but for me it's important, how many maps are already installed on the device or how many maps can be downloaded. For next year I will need maps of Asia and Russia. Asia is already difficult to find, and Russia is impossible to find for Garmin (at least yet, and for me). The range of maps is for me actually the first priority. So, do you think, this system is capable of storing a lot of downloaded maps in the device without going online via Wifi or data connection? Which kind of files are accepted by this device or system? I would be willing to invest in another system, if this is seriously better for navigating, even offroad, than the "Garmin Tread".
I don't have to much experience with the Tread unit myself, but I know it is android based, so you can install other apps like DMD2, Guru Maps, Osmand etc. so you should be able to figure something out. The tread unit is crazy expensive for what it is, and I really hope you find a good solution to this. Sorry I can't help you more. Cheers
your final comments are right, maybe i'm wrong, but can we use the products with any bar controllers and no more locked in their own controllers.? This prevented me to buy a captive system. Same for maps; we are a lot to be fed up by subscriptions. The good way is to pay once and then pay for updates when we want. this is a right ethical attitude, like, for example, Cantabile music software does... thanks for the review, next time include the odb2 demos ;)
As long as the remote controller is Bluetooth you can use what controller you want. I have both Thork and Remotek one and it works flawlessly with the DMD2 software. And other map apps etc. The only thing I have noticed is that in some app's the zoom in and out on map is switch around with plus and minus on the controller. Not sure why this is. Yeah, subscription based stuff has become the new go to plan for investors to get their money. Everyone is suppose to earn more than the years before and with all means necessary apparently. I'm not sure how this work, but from what I can understand, if you buy a Thork product, the license comes with the unit without any subscription, but if you only want the software on any android device it is a subscription plan thing. That is understandable with the amount of work that is behind all this. I will make several follow up videos with all this, It is just to much to cover in one video alone. As I progress and learn more, I will make follow up videos. Cheers mate.
I really liking this unit my self. Damn it is one impressive system and package all together. Another thing I will cover more in another video is how well the controller on the handlebar works. It is just incredible. Congrats with the 12.000 my friend 👏🏻
I've been using the first generation Carpe-ITER tablet with DMD2 for close on 4 years A game changer, and I agree, why waste your money on a bespoke Garmin product when this is the Swiss Army Knife of navigation tools?
Like me, I was reluctant to try it because I thought to myself I did not need all the extra stuff. Yes, it was ok to have, but never saw the need for it, but boy was I wrong. This is not only better, but it is how it should be done. Everyone else making navigation devices or app's need to use this as reference.
Im first :-) Now I will watch the video...watched. I like DMD2 also, tried it on a phone. Better on a big roughed screen of course. Just one question: wont the OBD2 dongle draw current from you battery even when bike is not switched on ? On my GS the ODB reader does (not much but anyway). Nice video easy to follow.
As it replaced the Bluetooth dongle on the T7WR it should not drain as the dongle is not running when the bike is turned off, but would be good to check to be sure ;)
@@bjornonwheels that is a really good question! I know my phone is not, so i bet the same problem is in the screen of this one! But let me check thet out for you! Need to bring my polarized sunglases with me back from work
I was waiting for this video. Looks like the answer to all the garmin annoyances. Now I want one!! :) I like to listen to music while riding, can you install apps like spotify and youtube and use those while navigating?
Yes, you can even customise the home screen to have a separate media player control. I hate to admit it, but Garmin is just not cutting it anymore. it is way behind in both tech and software. It is ridiculous how big the difference is.
Very good review. I d/l the app to my phone and like the interface. Unfortunately, I noticed that the plugin you need to activate it requires a monthly/yearly subscription. While the cost isn't very large, I don't do subscriptions. That is why I left Adobe and other software providers. If it requires a subscription, you don't really own it.
It is only a subscription based plan if you download it to other Android devices that is not a DMD2 product. With all the support, updates and new features coming out this is understandable and something I support. I don't do subscription based stuff on tech either, but something is worth it in my opinion.
Thanks for showing this unit. I’d really like to see some screen shots of the unit in use while navigating. Does the map zoom in or do you see a bird’s eye view all the time and need to zoom in manually? I’ve learned today that the unit now gives spoken turn by turn directions but can it be connected via Bluetooth to a helmet? Also, one last question, can it be tethered to an iPhone to use it’s hotspot so that your can use Google maps on the DMD2? I’m seriously looking at buying one of these as I’d like to support the community rather than buy a Garmin etc but I want to learn as much as I can first. Thank you 🙏
Let me try to answer you the best I can. If not, send me an email and I try to help you with the screen shots. The map can be ticked off to zoom in when start riding, and it can also be zoomed and tilted, so you see everything more at an angle (if that make sense) It would connect to any bluetooth device like any smartphone or tablet. So yes, it will connect to a com unit on the helmet. (I have not tried this myself) Yes, you can have hotspot on your phone and share that with your unit so you have internett connection. I have an iPhone myself, and find it to be a little bit cumbersome, because you need to reconnect it sometimes (apple to android I think) So I chose to put in a simcard for data. This unit is lightyears ahead from what Garmin offers. That is just a fact. And I don't think you will be disappointed with it. There is also I incredible Facebook group with tons of informations and daily questions if you like more answers to this. Cheers
@@tshansen thanks for replying in such good detail, all very helpful. Despite all the reviews, it’s been difficult to get small details, even on the DMD website, so I do appreciate your time.
Best software by far. Only thing missing for me is radar control not showing up. I know, it's mainly made for off road. But I ride on road too. I will buy the tablet, because my vision is getting worse on a smartphone.
Det er ikke ofte jeg blir så imponert over slikt som dette, men fy flate. Det er bra greier det her. Det er no way back etter man har plukket på en slik.
Hi, thanks for another great video, Thomas! :-) I’ve been using the DMD2 for two seasons now, and I’m really happy with it. And with the T865X, it looks like it’s going to be an even better experience. But have you figured out where the recorded GPX files are stored? I’m planning to set up automated storage of the files to Google Drive, but I’m having trouble finding out where they are saved
I had to do some research, ask support and by now, google drive can't access your trips recorded. But with the new ADVHub they are about to launch, there will be synchronization with the web portal for all your recorded tracks, trails, routes, waypoints etc. Same with cloud backup. So there will be a good solution for this anytime now.
Thank you Stefan. Well, not in the navigational page it self, you need to use a route planer (soon to be integrated with sync on the fly) called ADVHub. It reminds me a lot of Garmin Basecamp but just digital and intuitive. It well be released soon, but with a press of a button you can go into what ever route planer you use and build a route/track and upload it to DMD2 (since it is a android device) I will make a stand alone video about jus this soon
You are welcome mate. I will be surprised to hear if it's not. But the guys at Thork Racing will give you a definite answer on this mate. I really don't know.
Thomas some questions if you can help please? I currently use a Garmin xt2 but might consider changing over. On the Garmin if i stop a route partway it will ask if i want to restart at the nearest Waypoint - which could be miles behind me. How does the DMD2 handle this? Also on Waypoints I'm forced to visit them, i can't skip them without the unit recalclating the whole route (usually changing from what i planned ). Does this work differently? Lastly when will the route planning software be released and is it phone/tablet or pc based? Thanks for any help.
Yeah, I know about the issues you are referring to. You really need to learn a good habit of how you put or plan your rutes with Garmin, even if they have a skip waypoint button on there, if you have automatic recalculation of the route you are having a hard time. Well, this exact thing I have not played around with that much on the DMD2. I almost only use trails on my map that just show the line of where I'm going. No turn by turn navigation. The route planing software is what they are working on finalizing now, so I think it should be ready soon. I use it in Beta mode and it works really well, but they have not added the automatic sync with unit yet. This is all really good questions and I really need to investigate it more to give a better and more correct answer. Or you can go into their Facebook page or official forum and ask there. John is fast to reply on this kind of messages. Cheers
I am often riding where there is no cellular phone service. This is why I still happily use a Garmin 665 with Satellite radio. I have yet to find any GPS Unit which gives me Satellite Radio which I find critical for real time news and other information channels.
Yeah, that is a good point, I'm currently looking into the new satellite thing in iPhones, to see if that is better and less expensive than the Garmin. I see that Garmin in reach is doing something with their prices this year. But it is an important safety gadget most should consider when they go off grid.
Ooohhh.... that is a tough question my friend. Damn. I would not go without any of them. But I guess I would use Stegra to improve on routes in places I'm not known, and transfer it over to the DMD2 map. Because that map is just so damn good.
A great review of the tablet. The only thing that can bother me is that an 8inch thing is a bit on the big side, especially if u cant mount it in a way so it doesn't cover up your existing dash. Ill take some measurements form the website and compare to an old tablet I got lying around so I can make a testfit of sorts.
2 หลายเดือนก่อน
They have both a tablot and a phone sized unit or you just use whatever android phone you have. There are also dash relocators for the T7 that could make it easier to mount.
I had to cover up half of my dash, and it is really no problem but I understand what you mean. For me 8 inch is really nice. I find 5 inch to be just a tad to small when sitting so far away from it or stand up riding.
@@tshansen Yeah, that is my concern on the Norden 901...I need to do some measures for the 8-inch version as eyes are getting older :D On the handlebar it might be ok with the smaller screen (phone)I doubt the tablet looks good there tho.
Well, the difference is much easier for a tech guy to answer, but I understand that it is to separate tablets with different specs that run's the same software? With that said, I have heard a lot of stories with the Carpe Iter tablets. They don't hold charge, not waterproof etc etc.
@@tshansen thanks for the reply. I have a Garmin Zumo XT2 and I'm not happy with the interface and many other things. I've been looking at the CI and the DMD branded tablets. I have used DMD2 on my phone so I'm already a fan of the customizable screens and data fields. Thanks for the video and the response!
Looks like a great tool , but also a expensive tool for weekend rides But 👍 a Nice to have ,but think i will manage with my Tom Tom rider , iPhone and a card in hard copy for overview But looks great for someone that rides alot adventures. Enjoy the new tool
yeah, I think this comes down to what you really need. I ride so much and would not be without a good nav system, but for one or two weekend rides, I would use my phone or a cheap nav system
@@tshansen jep and normaly when i ride in Denmark and Sweden, i Can always find a route and always find the Way Home So if i miss a turn or waypoint doesnt matter , just for fun and the good time alone
How is the brightness in sunlight on The DMD-865x Nav Tablet. And how safe are the charging contacts on the back itself regarding shaking and rain at the same time. It is known that the Tenere 700's bird stick has a tendency to shake alot without an e.g. "Camel's vibration brace"
The brightness in sunlight is the best one I got so far. It is even better than the xt2 but it is really hard to capture on video because of the lense on the camera and the screen. It just does not come out the way you see it when you stir at the screen. The charging contact you need to screw into the unit, so that is safe and water proof. The pin connectors in the bottom is also really safe when riding and dust and rain hit. How well it is if you ride without the tablet, or you take it off to use in the tent, and it rains and freeze I have not testet yet. But hope to do that later this season. Yes, the world raid does not fit the Camel Vibrations Brace, but I have my own design I 3D printed and works really well, but not good enough with the stick straight out towards you
Passar perfekt 🙂
Honestly...Just been looking at this in last 2 days and thinking about buying...What was the total amount including all the add-ons for you ??...Glad you did this concise video mate, very helpful 🙂
To buy everything that I ordered here in Norway will set you back 17.146,- NOK But you can get away with less If you don't need all the equipment. Really glad you found it useful and liked the video mate. Cheers 🙌🏻
i like a garmin or tomtom divice for what it is you can let it fal on the ground and it stil works try that with your fone or tablet and you do to many other things with it, it distacts you of enjoying yore ride
Yeah, I liked Garmin for what it was for many yers as well.... but it's not true that you can drop it to the ground anymore. Maybe the old units. But as a road navigator it does a really good job and you can choose yourself how much or little you want it to distract you. Same with the tablets. Like I take away all notifications, calls, sounds, music etc. I only like navigation and the ease of using more than one app togehter with weather widget.
They really need to do a ground up rewrite of their OS. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a phone-like experience. Every spring I get my Montana 700i out and pull my hair out trying to use the damn thing. Now I run my phone for nav and the Garmin comes along just for Inreach. Garmin also likes to play in the sandbox by themselves - live in our ecosystem only or f you.
Does it need to be blue tooth/ wifi to a phone or is it a stand alone unit. I think it needs to be connected to a cell phone. The cell phone gathers all of the data and the DMD2 simply displays it. IS THIS CORRECT? Love your videos ! Sub'd and T-Up from southern USA!
No, this is a stand alone unit just like a tablet or a iPad. You can connect it to your phone, share internett etc, but you can install a SIM card in the unit, download apps and not have your phone at all. Thank you for the support mate, appreciate it. Hope you doing great over there, hear a lot of news about storms and hurricanes at the moment. Cheers
@@tshansen THANKS FOR THE KIND THOUGHTS! I really would like to use the DMD2. I too am fed up with Garmin. Ok bear with me here, let me try to explain.... I am wondering how the unit will work in this situation: So I am riding and get to a spot with no cell service. How would having a map downloaded to SIM card help? How would I know which map I would need at any specific spot? OR ..... Would I simply down load a single map for the USA ( ahead of time)?... OR a map for a region of the USA. AND.... if a map was down loaded.... would the unit show progress on the road and let you know where you are? Also, where do I find this map? Does it cost money? I hope I explained that correctly. I appreciate your wise advise. Again, your videos are so well made! Your insight is greatly appreciated!
Thanks for the video! Do you know if the device can show how much fuel is left in the tank? I was thinking of I would get the unit and Mount it in front of my Triumph Tiger dash.
As to my knowledge (limited) there is no way it will read the level of fuel. But you set how much on average you get out of one filling, and then I counts down with your trip meter. So it is much the same as having a trip meter read and get a warning when the yellow light comes on.
Thank you my friend. Well, I don't think they will make a IOS version of this, I have not heard anything about it either. But would ask if there is any plans of making one.
Hi there, it's me again :) I am planing to get a "Garmin thread overland" 8" as far i have seen it's possible to install DMD2 aswell on the system and with one button it's possible to switch easy between DMD2. the question is just how many Apps can be installed on it working with the DMD2 software...any Idea?
Ooohh.... that is a good questions and sorry, I have no idea. I met a guy at Outduro last year who had DMD2 on a Tread unit, and he used OSMand on it as well, so I know you can install more app's but not sure how many.
Had a look at going DMD2-T865X cost in Australia $1410, only available to order from overseas stock. Samsung tab active 3, 4, or 5 range from $600 to $1100 Australian dollars. Then, the $32 annual subscription. Then a mount $...... The level of detail is better than Google Maps, naming very minor roads and tracks that Google doesn't. The Garmin Zumo XT2 also has great details, also names minor tracks but only costs $800 with free map updates, comes with everything I need out of the box, and in my opinion is the perfect size for my bike. 10 inches or even 8 inches plus a large bezel is too big imo. Update 16sep2024. The more you look at what you get and a all in one solution with support from the one place, the more it makes sense. The DMD 865X unfortunately isn't available in Australia atm. Update 22 September. The DMD-T865X is now available in Australia.
Yeah, it is an investment and there are many ways to go about this, but I thin you really need to identify what your needs are, how much you use the sat nav, how you want to use it and if you ride more than just roads. The XT2 is not a bad unit, but it is overpriced as hell for what you get, and it is only good at one thing. Now I can't even transfer my tracks to the unit I want to follow.
With DMD devices, you have everything unlocked, lifetime. Also, all the system/Android updates, firmware, etc, is made by the developer. And the level of support you get by them, is something extraordinary! Sure, the tablet it's not cheap but you aren't buying just a tablet. 😉
@@dibbledobbledodaday I think both, when I have it in my car it is from my gps signal, and when I have it on the bike it is the ODB, but I have to check to be certain
How is it for connecting to satellites. I have the Tripletsk 9 pro with DMD2 and it has a really hard time connecting even in open areas. My Garmin usually never fails in that respect.
That is a good question. I find it to connect faster to satellites here in Norway than the XT2. you see that every time I start my bike and run out of the garage. The unit finds connection when I turn on the ignition, the xt2 is not connected before I'm down on the main road. But that could be a software thing. Same you see it when going into or trough tunnels. But how it connect, and how many connections etc you got I have no idea. Maybe a tech guy can give a better answer to this than I can.
every time I watch one of these videos I have to STRONGLY remind myself that I'm an asphalt rat and for me, my old Garmin 396 is good enough. I would get the phone though, the only problem is the actual hardware is a bit outdate for an android phone.
Hahaha, that is a good point, Garmin does Nuvi maps and road calculation really well. So if this is your only need, most Garmin devices can handle it with ease. Put it is ment to be a phone? Is it not just a phone size tablet? To do navi stuff, not all the other crap we normally put a phone trough?
@@tshansen that's the thing, I would get the T665, the 865 tablet size is too big for me. And I would use the T665 as a daily phone also, 2 in 1 :). But it has the same hardware inside as my 4 year old cheap Motorola phone .... so that is a bit of a letdown. I guess I could just use it as a navigator, get a data sim card and all but then I'll miss the ability to answer phone calls via the cardo headset .... On the other hand they are about to upgrade to Android 14 which is a plus. Maybe I'll wait until Top Icon release a new version. That's what I found out btw, the DMD tablets/phones are made by TopIcon in hong kong :)
I am a hardcore garmin user. And will have a closer look at dmd2. But i has to show north up and i should be able to create my own waypoints in garmin style, so with just one click. OBD is not of interest to me.
You can choose direction, if you want north up, or you want the map to rotate when you ride the arrow is stationary. You can create waypoints more easy than on the Garmin, and you can choose (really easy) to pin the waypoint to the road address or own coordinates. If you have an android phone you can download the software and try if for yourself.
Just another great video!! 😃👍 And we are really happy to see you over here, on the dark side. 😎
Thanks for the shout out!! ❤
Best regards, Team TURTEK
Thank you so much Dennis, and thank you so much for the support with the dongle. Can't wait to see what comes of all this in the upcoming years. And we really need to let people know that there is great support here in Norway as well. Team TurTek, SKÅL!
It does look mighty good. Bright, crisp and very very responsive. Will keep it in mind for the future.
It is just like google maps on a smartphone really responsive, great screen, both with and without gloves. This is the future, and I can't see anyone being remotely close to what these people have put together.
This unit is fantastic! Instead of the Garmin Zumo XT2, I'm getting this unit, You've convinced me.
Glad this video help you in the decision! There is no going back for me after this. I also use it in my car and it works really well for me.

That looks like a very well built, and thought out product.
Yeah, it is really something else and I have so much use cases for it. Even started using it in my car as well.
It's a really impressive system, both the hardware and the software 🤩🤩🤩
Yeah, it is absolutely amazing, are you getting the app for your new tablet? Would be cool to compare on our upcoming trip how the two devices perform with the same software 🙌🏻
@@tshansen I have the DMD2 app installed, but not tested it on the roads yet.

It's so expensive though 🥲. The controller was extra, or came included?
@@tshansen His bike is looking great and I’m very impressed with his 3D printing. Happy riding🙂
Thank you mate, really glad you found my video and you found it helpful 👏🏻
Garmin are so behind the times now, the processors they use in the units are very slow, where as all these new alternatives seem to work so much better.
DMD2 works fantastically well. 👍
it is a really impressive system 🙌🏻
@@tshansenI am very satisfied. Then there are always new updates with new features, etc. After two years of use, I have a hard time finding anything better.

Thank you mate, glad you found it informative 🙏🏻 I'm not that familiar with reviews, but I try to put a light on the stuff I myself researched when I wanted to get mine. Cheers
I use DMDv2 on a galaxy active tab 3 and it work well too, the only stuff that is less convenient is the brightness when I have the sun reaching directly the screen, but I stand up and problem solve (create shadow ^^)
And damn it is a great app, I share your feeling about the developers of this one.
I just bought a GasGas es700 that has that same setup, I can't wait to use it!!
Great video ✌️
Congrats on the new bike mate. Hope you will have a great time on it. Glad you enjoyed the video. Cheers ☕️

@@tshansen good to know, thanks!

Sorry to say it mate, but the Garmin is just not worth the money anymore.
you should try heat shrink tubing instead of electrical tape. its more weatherproof and won’t degrade over time like electrical tape does (especially from the engine heat)
I had that laying around, but I forgot to put it on before I connected it all, And I might do a better job with this if I did use a heat gun, not a lighter 🤣 But I might do some clean up of the wires in the winter.
Looks like a great solution. My two remaining questions and points why I still look at Garmin:
1. how does the unit work when getting hot?
Hi, nice video!... Question: is there a bridge between iPhone and DMD2 to show us our mail, message and so on, like Zumo do ?
I have ridden a longer reply on your topic but somehow it disappeared. 🤔

@@gerharddahlheimer5485 It's not easy to say. I have had issues where some comments show ut many weeks later than posted. Maybe a bug in TH-cam or like you said, hold for censorship or something.

I’m liking that unit!

I've been using the first generation Carpe-ITER tablet with DMD2 for close on 4 years
A game changer, and I agree, why waste your money on a bespoke Garmin product when this is the Swiss Army Knife of navigation tools?
Like me, I was reluctant to try it because I thought to myself I did not need all the extra stuff. Yes, it was ok to have, but never saw the need for it, but boy was I wrong. This is not only better, but it is how it should be done. Everyone else making navigation devices or app's need to use this as reference.

Just one question: wont the OBD2 dongle draw current from you battery even when bike is not switched on ? On my GS the ODB reader does (not much but anyway). Nice video easy to follow.
the OBD is auto off after x minutes when voltage drops after you turn off the engine

I was waiting for this video. Looks like the answer to all the garmin annoyances. Now I want one!! :)
I like to listen to music while riding, can you install apps like spotify and youtube and use those while navigating?
Yes, you can even customise the home screen to have a separate media player control. I hate to admit it, but Garmin is just not cutting it anymore. it is way behind in both tech and software. It is ridiculous how big the difference is.
@@tshansen awesome, thanks for the video! I've been a Garmin fanboy since the zumo 550 era, but looks like there are better alternatives now.

Radar control? you think about the speed cameras etc? or the speed limit on the road you are riding?
@@tshansen the latter. Where I live, they're everywhere.
@@Karel.C yeah, that should be possible to include. Have you asked about it in the Facebook group?
@@tshansen Yes. People refur to other apps. Waze is ok. But I don't want to switch all the time, overlay apps don't seem to work with DMD2
@@tshansen Do you know any more spesific about the release date for the launch of the new ADVHub?
That was very good, thank you. So is it possible to plan a complete route with several route points?
Thank you Stefan. Well, not in the navigational page it self, you need to use a route planer (soon to be integrated with sync on the fly) called ADVHub. It reminds me a lot of Garmin Basecamp but just digital and intuitive. It well be released soon, but with a press of a button you can go into what ever route planer you use and build a route/track and upload it to DMD2 (since it is a android device) I will make a stand alone video about jus this soon
Thank you Thomas for this informative video 👍 Is the charging mount WATERPROOF, if the device is removed from the cradle ?
Cheers
Nice crocs 🤙
Thank you 😂
I am often riding where there is no cellular phone service.
Tnx for this video 😉🤘🏻 your conclusion - Stegra or DMD2 map for usual use?
Ooohhh.... that is a tough question my friend. Damn. I would not go without any of them. But I guess I would use Stegra to improve on routes in places I'm not known, and transfer it over to the DMD2 map. Because that map is just so damn good.
Thx. For the review.
What kind of rear rack do you installed?
You are welcome. The rear rack I have is from Perun Moto 🙌🏻
@@tshansen thx.🙏🏽
A great review of the tablet. The only thing that can bother me is that an 8inch thing is a bit on the big side, especially if u cant mount it in a way so it doesn't cover up your existing dash.
Ill take some measurements form the website and compare to an old tablet I got lying around so I can make a testfit of sorts.
@@tshansen Yeah, that is my concern on the Norden 901...I need to do some measures for the 8-inch version as eyes are getting older :D
On the handlebar it might be ok with the smaller screen (phone)I doubt the tablet looks good there tho.
See their DMD-T665 smartphone.

Great video! I don't understand the difference in Carpe Iter and DMD tablet.

Yes, but you need to unlock position think in the menu for it to rotate. It comes locked in landscape mode. (turn it on and off in the system)

i like a garmin or tomtom divice for what it is
you can let it fal on the ground and it stil works
try that with your fone or tablet
and you do to many other things with it, it distacts you of enjoying yore ride
Yeah, I liked Garmin for what it was for many yers as well.... but it's not true that you can drop it to the ground anymore. Maybe the old units. But as a road navigator it does a really good job and you can choose yourself how much or little you want it to distract you. Same with the tablets. Like I take away all notifications, calls, sounds, music etc. I only like navigation and the ease of using more than one app togehter with weather widget.
Been a user of the DMD2 hardware 865 for quite some time, never going back to Garmin or or GPS's.
Glad to hear I'm not alone. 🙌🏻
Garmin is $hite. I am a sailor as well and it's the same story there. Hats off to the developers of this!
Is that a fact, did not know that? Thought Garmin was really up the ladder in Sea navigation?
Garmin allocates its best engineers to aviation then marine and the worst to regular gps: Watches have also distracted them.
@@wesc23 I imagine they put down most effort where there is most money.
Its good, but a lot more expensive than a Garmin Zumo here in Aus!
What are the difference? Here in Norway it is only 200 euro difference between the two?
Great video Thomas, you fool. 😁😁. Any info about a future IOS version? Thanks. 👍👍
Thank you my friend. Well, I don't think they will make a IOS version of this, I have not heard anything about it either. But would ask if there is any plans of making one.

Ooohh.... that is a good questions and sorry, I have no idea.

@@Kurt013 Well said Kurt 🙌🏻
Is the speed indication on the unit derived from GPS, or does it pick up the speed from the bike via the ODB connection?
Compare features with Zumo XT2.
I have a own separate video about the Zumo XT2
@@tshansen I know, however in both videos navi features and moreover differences are not clear.
@@tantrido Let me see what I can make of this in a follow up video regarding more of the features on the DMD2 system.
@@tshansen thanks!
every time I watch one of these videos I have to STRONGLY remind myself that I'm an asphalt rat and for me, my old Garmin 396 is good enough.
Does it function as a normal tablet also? apps, movies, emails etc etc ?
Yes, that is correct 👏🏻
What about the Garmin tread DMD? What is the difference with this DMD tablett?
I'm not sure what all the differences are, you might want to ask a tech guy or read up on the specs for each unit.
Which tyres are you using an are they OK also with wet asfaltvand mud etc?
I use the Dunlop Trailmax Raid, and they are absolutely fantastic on wet Asfalt. In the mud they can be a bit slippery, like all 50/50 tires.
