  • In this video I share my thoughts on the Garmin Zumo XT2 as well as compare it to the Garmin Zumo XT. I've used the XT2 for thousands of miles and on multiple trips. I've also used the Zumo XT extensively. Be sure to check out the links below if you are interested in either.

Thank you for the video. Very well done. I hv a BMW Navi 6 v2 It's not rhe best but so far I hvnt had any problems going on 2.1/2 yrs with it. I was looking to upgrade to the XT2 just to upgrade and watching your video I think I will wait awhile on that one. Lol. I've seen plenty of unboxing videos on thw XT2 but never one with lots of miles on it. Yours was the video I was waiting for. Thanks again.

Looking to upgrade to either the XT or XT2 from the 595LM. I think I know which way I will go now. Thank you for spending the time to make such an informed review.

I was finally ready to step out of the Dark Ages and buy a GPS for my 701 and you started out really well with the bigger easier to read screen. I have zero tolerance for tech that doesn't work properly and would probably end up chucking it off a bridge or setting it front of my rear tire and do repeated burnouts on it after the first few times it went out on me. I guess I'll wait and maybe they'll come up with an updated version come spring. Anyhow nice seeing a video from you again. Thanks.

Thank you Mario for a no BS review of the two units - seems to be thing nowadays that many devices are released half baked with incomplete software and frequent crashes. Kinda like all GoPro action cameras, my top of the line Samsung TV, my car entertainment system and the list goes on. I upgraded to the XT a while ago. It works reasonably well (Cardo connectivity is subpar) for its core functions- the brighter screen is very nice. Web connectivity with uploading maps etc is absolutely horrendous so I have to stick to Basecamp still.

Nice, my buddie had the xt2 on UTBDR. I don’t remember him having issue other then when we got separated and I blamed it his xt2 . 😂 Have to share that story next year.

600 for the xt2? Hmm…May as well go with a Montana 700i if you do trails and also like hiking.

Great review... Garmin did fix the issues on the new Zumo XT2, it was hardware problems for sure.
I have the normal XT1 and the battery died in 1 month.

we'll see hot it goes lol i just received my XT2 and updated everything, I'm in Ohio, so guess we'll see in the spring, but i do have a imac.....so hopefully i get lucky....as you said though, i really like the tread app except for the part, when mine is on Wi-Fi, and I do not have the zumo turned on, it just keeps saying calculating ..... that's kind of the only thing that bugs me

XT2 would be good for future proofing? No? Garmin is clearly going to move onto the XT2 and support for XT will fall off? That’s just my speculation.

I've got a apple phone I use os mapping app make a route and export it as a GPX route on my phone straight to my Garmin drive app. Then turn on the XT at home on WiFi it sinks up to drive and there's the route in explore. Hope that makes sense. 👍

I have 2 issues with the XT:-
    1. You can't send a route to other devices via bluetooth
    2. You can't set routing to 'shortest route', only fastest or adventurous

I am able to bluetooth GPX files from my iPhone or iPad to my Garmin Zumo XT via the Gaia GPS app.

  • @Road_Rash1

I've had the XT for a couple of years now. Bought it mainly for my Triumph Scrambler for following tracks off highway. I'm not a fan. I like the Gaia app on my phone much more for planning and following routes except for all that comes with using your phone that you mention. On the Garmin, I hate the message block that permanently takes about a 10th of the screen but serves no purpose when you are following a track versus using turn-by-turn navigation. Last, to be one of market leaders, I'd expect more for their total route planning environment. I think everyone agrees that Garmin Basecamp sucks. I have an '18 Indian Roadmaster with on-board GPS and the Indian/Polaris Ride Command environment is really cool with a few exceptions. Route planning is very simple and very easy to share (even for non-Indian riders). Stupid easy to get routes from your PC to the bike. You can use a USB stick to get the route onto the bike or dump it directly from the Ride Command app on your phone which is connected to the bike. I probably would not by the XT again. Anyone using something else they like better?

Im not a Tech dude, I want a device that will just take me where I WANT it to take me. IE: Twisty Roads, Nearest State OR National Park, Motorcycle friendly campgrounds...That sort of stuff. KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid thought process, Thanks for your time..

Ugh I was gonna get one, but I hate devices that kinda work/inconsistently more than anything.
Think I’ll have to settle for my iPhone X w/ Scenic for now even though the phone discharges faster than it can charge while the app is running and the whole thing just shuts down during a hot summer ride in Texas.

there's these things called Maps. I believe you referred to them as "Atlas's". We used them growing up, very useful. (being sarcastic). They Never lose "signal" or need "recharging". If you have a tank bag, most likely has a "map pocket" on top. Butler makes some good ones. Tear resistant, waterproof and, highly detailed for motorcyclists. (Still being sarcastic here). Although limited in areas covered. I think most of the BDR's are though.
