Jurassic Park III - Caravan Of Garbage

  • Jurassic Park III marked the end of the franchise for well over a decade. But boy did it attempt to go out with a bang with the return of both Sam Neil as Alan Grant and Laura Dern briefly as Ellie Sattler. Despite missing some of the key elements that made the first movie great it does introduce us to a new villain, the Kirby family. Oh and the Spinosaurus. Thanks for watching our Caravan Of Garbage review!

Their idea of escaped dinosaurs causing mysterious deaths in the mainland is actually lifted directly from the first Jurassic Park novel, which has a prologue where an American biologist investigates string of strange animal attacks in Costa Rica. It was cut from the movie because that plotline doesn't affect events in the island at all, and the biologist only returns to the story towards end of the book.

I have a newfound appreciation of this movie after watching _Fallen Kingdom_ and _Dominion._ It lacks the wonder and awe of the first film, but it's a lean mean 90 minute dino-thriller with some good deaths and action, completely free of human clones and subplots of industrial espionage involving locusts... What a relief!

Before seeing this in the theater when it came out, my friend asked “what can they possibly do that would be new with the dinosaurs?” and I replied “I bet they talk this time” and we joked about what they would say for like 5 minutes. Then when we were in the theater opening weekend and the “Alan” Dream sequence happened, we started laughing so loud we were asked to leave

    • @thegloriouskingkronk8422
      @thegloriouskingkronk8422 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

That thing your friend said, the real answer is that Jurassic Park/World never did that much new with them, and part of that is because dinosaurs were animals and all movies ever really do much with animals is make them into movie monsters or animated characters, but there also was this one film called Theodor Rex which is a buddy cop film with our two main characters being an anthropomorphic T. rex and Whoopi Goldberg, who was contractually obliged to feature in this film against her will.
That film tackles very serious issues, like racism, except against dinosaurs, and the plot overall can be reduced to one resembling that of the film Seven, except the climax is stopping a super weapon.
So essentially, the answer is that the freshest thing you can do with dinosaurs is indeed making them talk.
Or you could get really creative with their monster scenes. Bears were also just bears until Annihilation decided ursaphobia is a thing people should have

I know this movie technically sucks, but it is perfect, and I love it so much. I had this movie on DVD as a kid and must have watched it almost everyday for multiple years. Finally gave it a rewatch after well over a decade and could quote every line.
It's so streamlined, the dinosaurs are sick, and the characters, while flawed, feel like actual real humans, so I can appreciate the annoying mistakes they make throughout the story. And Sam Neill is awesome. Has the same charisma as Harrison Ford but more grounded in his antics and respect for the sciences.
This movie, rather than the original, is pretty much what inspired me to take up paleontology as a hobby (and even a Geology minor while in college).

I think it has really good special effects and a good variety of action. The rusty abandoned island aesthetic is done so well, and I feel like it’s really iconic. I think Jurassic Park really mishandles its dinosaurs in general to be honest. The new one making Therizinosaurus an antisocial murderous maniac with nothing behind the eyes is... a fairly accurate representation of what herbivores can be like let's be honest, but the marketing material made it seem like the Giganotosaurus would be the murderous lunatic, when really it acted the most like an actual predatory animal of any dinosaur in the film. And that thing with the ancient rivalry between T. rex and Giganotosaurus is massive bullshit lol, the two lived a continent and 24 million years apart, and Giga and its relatives did out entirely before large tyrannosaurs appeared. I love how it magically printed an entire completed and working dino throat flute in like 5 minutes with no support material, assembly, cleanup or finishing of any kind. I always kinda liked this one. The cast was interesting with character types not typical for this type of film. Also, they get to the Dinos eating and terrifying people quickly, they stay there for the duration and wrap it up before it gets boring. It’s not great cinema, but it is a fun monster movie to watch on a Saturday afternoon.

Still the scariest use of raptors. When Mr mustache gets a claw in the back to bait the others. No silly raptor dogs like in the later films. This is just a fun dino, survivor movie. The man who gets pulled out the plane by the spino, I hear his screams in my dreams.

This was literally my favorite movie when I was a kid, it was also my introduction to JP. I thought it was so good, and in my humble opinion it still has the best CGI and dinosaurs.
When I was a kid I thought the first movie was soooo boring because not enough dinosaurs, but now that I’m older it’s my favorite movie of all time and this one is definitely at the bottom of the Jurassic films besides the new one because I haven’t seen it. Watching it in about an hour I’ll edit my comment about what I think
    It was alright

To be fair, the Spinosaurus was accurate for the time, new discoveries on how a spino actually looked have been really developing in the last 10 years including walking on all 4, having a more rectangle spine than half circle, having a more unique tail, etc.

This is easily the best Jurassic Park Sequel. The Spinosaurus is awesome 👏 the best new beastie of all the sequels .. Sam Neill is awesome, especially in the infamous “Alan” scene .. the raptor winking 😉 scene is fantastic .. the bit where the raptors do a weekend at bernies with a corpse is marvellous.. the phone in the spinosauras is genius.. the evil Pteranodons are class etc etc yep the end is a rush job, you know “let’s get this finished, it’s way over budget” sorta thing. But I forgive it that, 👍 from me!

It's a skeleton of a film. In the first there was wonder. The second didn't have wonder but tried to add lore a bit but the third barely anything happens and sometimes it just zooms past interesting points that needed to be shown. For example they could have shown bits of how Eric survived, have Ellie ask about Alan and have the husband go all hush hush about the restricted airspace knowing where he is. You know something but it's just a waste of time but with potential to be more.

As someone who grew up on a farm there are two possibilities for the trex pee I can think of. The first I used to see cow poop with what I assumed was little pee puddles. If a rex makes a poop pile like the ones in the first and pees on it at the same time it might make a poop volcano with pee lava for easy collection. The other possibility would be that the rex had a general area for the bathroom, some farm animals in pens keep bathroom areas, and they pee enough to makes puddles in the ground. Collect after the rex leaves.

JP3 is a lot nicer looking and moodier than any of the Jurassic World movies. 3 had really brilliant jungle sets, really awesome run-down labs and dinosaur cages (basically any run-down infrastructure on the island gives it a cool aesthetic), and the Spino is probably the best new Dino since the original movie, and hasn't been topped in any of the "World" films (those fake dinosaurs they brewed up are ridiculous, and are disqualified by virtue of just being cartoonish versions of the JP3 raptors with the little spiny spines on their heads).
Where JP3 suffers is the story...which is to say, it doesn't have one. It has a plot, it has a script, but there is no "story" being told, which hasn't already been told better in 1 and 2. JP3 is a theme-park ride... and I still love it WAY more than the World movies.
