  • This video shows low light performance of both Sony a7siii and Sigma fp.
    Observation:
    Sony a7s3 is the clear winner as it’s more sensitive and clean.

    It still gets me, that people think that somehow a log curve is better than a raw image because you can see what’s there. Don’t you know that log only exists because of the economoy of data management?
    What ISO is the Sigma @? 3200 base?
    The Sony completely breaks down when pushed. How can you not see that? Footage looks terrible. Whereas the Sigma is clean, but again RAW footage cannot be comparef to baked in footage. The comparison is pears to apples:
    The Sony is baked and the Sigma is RAW. Sony, baked apple Pie vs all the ingredients you need, Gee. You need to lift the Sigma darks to see whats there.

      Thanks Karuna for the information. I will be doing a comparison of Raw vs RAW and also include the footage at base ISOs for low light tests.

    In addition to the RAW vs Compressed problem mentioned before me, you're comparing slog with linear which doesn't match at all, I guess it is why you went with 640 to base it off Sony's slog base ISO. You also completely forgot that Sigma fp has a second native ISO at 3200 meant for lowlight shoots which gives a very clean image (going lower or higher than that for lowlight introduces noise obviously). My advice is to plan your tests before taking them. You can't do it on the spot and then write in the description "the clear winner is a7s3", Keep it up! Looking forward to more stuff.

    The Sigma has a better usable ISO range 100-25K. The Sony gains a edge in the mushy and unusable 32,000 ISO and up range. At 1600… 3200.. 6400… 10,000 and 12,800 the Sigma looks way better. The heavy handed mush making noise reduction that kicks in at 12,800 on the Sony, destroys the image. That’s one of the reasons I got rid of my Sony gear ( FX6 and A7SIII). I’m now shooting Red and Canon. Though, I might once again pick up a Sigma FP. The updates and the optional EVF are making it a more interesting proposition to me. I originally parted with the FP because of the lack of an EVF and the hassle of an external SSD with cords hanging out.

      I got a sigma recently. Amazing that e.g. a Samsung 980pro in an icy box chassis (with a icy box cold shoe ssd clamp) - all this is now 8 times cheaper than the equivalent cf express card so 12 bit cinedng with a quick grade using a colour chart via DaVinci resolve and then export to h264 (to work on your iPhone in Adobe rush) will kick Sony’s ass 😂

  • @M4Pxls
    @M4Pxls 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Can't say it is a true fair comparison, Sony is represented in log, so not a linearized image nor 709 tonemapped. In my opinion you should look at those through aces. I'm pretty sure that sigma has more latitude.

      You are right that I should have compared the standard picture profile footage from these camera. But from what I have seen so far Dynamic range is better on Sony a7siii. I compared the raw file as well. Probably will try to post that test comparison as well.

    Ideally the same lens should be used when comparing cameras, some lenses have better light transmission. T stops are the only way to compare light, not f stops.
