I doubt any cinematographers rely on autofocus...Vloggers yes, which is why many youtubers passed off the fpl. You are a few that appreciated the merits of the fp.

Autofocus is extremely important in the "prosumer" market. Any real cinematographer on a feature film set is using an arri, not an fx3 or a sigma. The way I see it, the FX3 knows its market

The Sigma lets you record up to 12 bit RAW at 1080p internally with a fast SD card for up to around 50 minutes, or 10 bit for almost an hour. With Sony's fastest Tough series SD (128GB) you can get 9 minutes in full 12 bit in 4K. If and when Sony makes 256GB or 512GB versions then more recording time. With a portable USB-C SSD such as the unique Delkin Devices Juggler (1 or 2 TB versions) then the world is your oyster. Also there is an LCD modification that makes it a full flip up screen. At present nothing can touch the Sigma FP/FP L.as a cinema camera. The true pocket cinema camera.

Absolutely agree. It’s insane you get so many features for the retail price starting at $1,900.

But what about 4K 12 bit on the Sigma? Why did you compare 1080 on one to 4K on the other?

It is worth mentioning, that upscaling true cinema dng in davinci is excellent. Also shooting in 1080p eliminates problem with rolling shutter. And you can get really good slowmo in FHD up to 120 FPS

  • @mattdebyl8806

A great and interesting comparison which finally ‘gets’ the Fp (L). There are some other differences that are worth mentioning. The Sony allows Log where the Sigma doesn’t. The Sony also does 4K (UHD) up to 120fps, vs 30 on the Sigma. The Sigma DOES DCI, but only with an external recorder and that changes the way the sensor reads out. The Sigma’s extra resolution allows for a very capable range of crops / controllable sensor size. The Sony’s limited resolution means for 4K it has to be FF. No S35 or S16 or anything else. While you mentioned that an EVF is available for the Sigma, you didn’t mention that one is not available for the Sony (well, not by Sony). The Sony has better audio capabilities as well with included XLR inputs. Sigma has nice cinema features that aren’t directly mentioned, such as waveforms and shutter angle, which is a critique of the Sony being based on A7S III. Sony has significantly less rolling shutter also. But a great and interesting comparison for sure.

And now the Sigma has EL Zone System to nail exposure. Every firmware update is making the Sigma better. 💪🏾

I normally shoot Sony gear, but just got the fp for the 12 bit raw,, and flying it fpv, and WOW! The footage looks great! I don’t have any autofocus lenses for it yet, so I can’t speak on that, but for hi quality video it’s definitely a keeper!

@@Kurtiskurtical Hey, I posted some test shots taken in my yard a couple of weeks ago. I can’t share some of the commercial shots I’ve done with it…yet…. It was pretty windy with the shots with the sunlight and I was flying the insider for those so it’s not stabilized quite as well. Also, forgot to interpret some of the footage from 30fps, to 24 so some clips are a bit stuttery, and I’m still learning the raw workflow for Davinci, but this should give you some idea of dynamic range and stabilization with gyroflow:

  • @andrew_nayes
    @andrew_nayes ปีที่แล้ว +1

0:48 The Sigma FP does not have "active cooling". What you are pointing to is the heatsink between the sensor and the lcd. This heatsink is passive.

If the FX3 had internal ND-filters (I know that would sacrifice IBIS) it would've had everything I need. I currently use 2 stills bodies and 1 cinema camera and would've wanted to reduce that to 1 stills body and 1 sufficient hybrid body, but I use the cine camera's internal ND's all the time so external filters are not an option and I think using shorter shutter speeds instead looks too unprofessional for paid work.

I disagree that owning the glass means you should buy the Sony. Why would you even buy the FP? For the autofocus? No. You would probably get cinema/anamorphic lenses. I would not buy manual focus lenses for my Sony cameras. For my TV show Infinite Simulations I'm going with three Sony FX30 with Tamron 17-28mm, 28-75mm, and two 11-20mm lens and one Sigma FP with an Sirui 35mm anamorphic lens. I might also pick up a set of Sirui and one set of 7Artisans L Mount cinema lenses and the Sony 28-135mm FE PZ F4 G OSS.

Everyone has different criteria for what qualifies as a cinema camera. Depending on how you define a cinema camera, the FP can both be considered a cinema camera and not. It also depends if your criteria are based on functionality, physical design or internal specs.
      Sigma FP has:
      True 24p
      Waveforms
      False Colors / CineEI
      Shutter Angle
      CDGI/RAW-video
      External DCI
      Custom Frame Guides
      Sigma FP does not have:
      Internal NDs
      Anamorphic De-squeeze
      Double SD/storage ports
      XLR-inputs
      Internal DCI
      SDI-outputs
