One item I do not recommend is the tap and die set from Harbor Freight. I tried to use this set to tap a hole in my head for the Lindsey Racing steam vent kit. Carbon Steel Chinesium vs German Aluminium. Who do you think won? My brother actually called me yesterday, he is redoing some sport seats. He said he was trying to retap some holes in the seat bur it just would not work. I asked what taps he was using. What do you think his answer was?
Lol I can’t argue with you on the quality that’s for sure but the main point is that in general a good tap and die set is something that’s good to have around, but I totally agree on the quality, whenever I’ve got the funds to do so I’ll be upgrading to something really nice. Exactly what I needed!!! Haha great I’ll definitely share this video with my dad and have a look at everything I need before I get one! Might go down to Costco soon and have a look for that tool kit! The grey one must’ve sold owner said he was showing it to someone and hasn’t responded since, found a 1986 Guards Red Turbo with 69k miles for a great price, going to have a look at it this Sunday! Hopefully all goes well and I’ll finally be in the 944 community :)
One tool I think is overrated / waste of money is the specialized 944 belt tensioning tool. It’s really not needed at all to do the timing belt. The tensioner pin wrenches are handy but not the tool that measures belt tension. The flywheel lock is a pretty handy tool to have. weed wacker trimmer line is handy for clearing those body drains as I show in my video. You need a long 6mm Allen for the cam tower and a set of triple square bits for quite a few things. 17mm Allen for diff drain plug.
You need a long 6mm Allen for the cam housing bolts ,BUT !!!!! NEVER USE THE BALL END ALLEN !!! 😊😊😊 also ,give those a good wack with a hammer before trying to break them loose 😂😂😂 just sayin

Since we’re talking about maintaining our cars, One of the most overlooked items IS CV axle maintenance, I’ve done mine twice in the last 20yrs….
Same but on 2 cars 😅😅😅
