@@Potatooie only works once a hunt unfortunately, and the game never tells you this. also the balloon isn't always visible in the sky. also the monster can always just move somewhere else by the time you get there

Hey, to be fair to Monster Hunter Freedom Unite Palicoes, if you leveled them all the way up and spent time and points training them, you could get a single shock trap per hunt, which they would inevitably manage to stick in some dark corner where the level geometry wouldn't even allow the monster to go.
And I swear they hit me more with those damn bombs than they did the monster.
Reading the last bit made me burst out laughing and now my family thinks I have problems lmao.

The few rare times you get hit by something you feel you shouldn't have in Rise is just you finally being hit by that Plesioth hipcheck you thought you dodged in an older game.

That and copy-pasted weapon designs (even including returning monsters weapons) are probably my only major complains in World. So glad that Rise bring them back. Miss stuff like Narga Wings DB and especially... Tigrex Tank!

I was once fighting a Brachydios in 4U, and he stunned me he prepared his overhead blowimg punch, my health low, I was pretty much dead right there. But then a Bullfango rammed me and I was sent flying to safety. That Bullfango gave his lofe for me.

Maybe the G-rank for Rise will? Rise was also announced to receive a PC port by early 2022 as of my current information.

@@4ny3ody The expansion never felt like a Grank or Ultimate to me, just end game content like how in MHFU after beating all the missions in the 9*s from the elder opened up new arena quests. I havent heard anything new about the PC game yet jsut that its probably a thing, I should look more into it, still hoping for a cross save.
Bullfangos in MH1 are more dangerous than 80% of the monsters in the entire series honestly.

The Chainslaughter was one of the best wack Longsword ever! It's the best early game thunder elemental LS you've ever wanted. On the side note, the chains really does move and it makes chainsaw noises when unsheathing it and cool blood effects when you hit the monster

Palicos in Freedom Unite were pretty hit or miss, when it came to being helpful. Sometimes they screwed you over, sometimes they carried you hard. Eating was also a gamble, since it had possible negative effects back then, unless you knew the recipe combos.
I remember eating for something in MH3 that made you start the quest with 20hp. Or eating poison shrooms before heading out to Jhen Mohran's back to trigger that Heroics proc.
God, I really miss the whole lobby + prepping aspects of older MH games. Especially the lobbies.
MHFU the best recipe: meat + dairy => +40hp and large attack boost.
Also the palicoes were good, if you got the workaholic perk for a pure melee cat. The bombs.... bad, awful, never use those kitties, always blow you up whenever it is unnecessary

Bullfango always had me wondering how a herbivore could be so blood thirsty
So interestingly, there are some very territorial herbavores in the real world that WILL chase you down. Hippos are known to have one of the highest human kill counts among animals because folks get too close to them and they can run shockingly fast both in and out of water to trample anyone that disturbs them. Rhinoceros are also infamous for charging anything and everything that crosses their path trying to gore them with their horns, as their poor eyesight makes it difficult for them to distinguish between friend or foe.

Used to have a classmate back in college who raves about MonHun on PSP, telling me how he hunts with his buddies and they all meet up for hunts. At the time I didnt understand the fascination to it. That all changed when I got 4U on the 3DS and boy, now I understand why its so good. I wonder if he still hunts.

I remember a long time ago I figured out how to block the hipcheck because it easier than trying to dodge it
Plesioth made me learn how to use bowguns. I just decided I couldn't be near that thing.
Fighting Plesioth before with a weapon that has no blocking. Traumatizing. Hitbox is bigger than my future.
That frickin hitbox with Plesioth really got me. Those types of monster was the reason why I always use Gunlance whenever I fight them. That strategy I carried throughout newer MH games. xD

2:05 The moment I heard "bullfango" I got intense ptsd from just how annoying those charging fucks were. You had to kill all of them in an area before you could even fight the large monster cuz they were THAT annoying, and their tracking would make Dark Souls bosses jealous
Oh man, reminds me of Gypceros Swamp Quest on MH1. That quest is 50% fighting bullfango(sometimes genprey or melyx) and 50% Gypceros itself. I hate those little fuckers always ruining the hunt.
tigrex charge attack still follows you during the charge, and theres only 1 wall that rarely works to hold him for a few seconds
Fcking homing missiles of pure rage. Every time I get fucked up by those things I go on a bullfango hunting quest just to get that satisfaction
To be honest, I prefer the bullfango to the konchu. Not only would those bastards attack you, but they would also cause your weapons to bounce off while fighting a monster.

That hit box was way too real lol
The funniest part about the hitboxes of old games is often times were too far extended outwards but not actually touching the monster so the safest place sometimes was just to be under their legs. Kinda counter intuitive the safest place from a lot of melee attacks was practically touching the monsters. For example whenever a rathian is trying to spin around to either hit you with its tail or face you while on the ground hugging its legs is the safest place. It also makes it very easy to be on the other ‘’side’’ of it again so it spins ineffectually again trying to face you. This also works for hip checks cuz you can just be on the opposite side the monster is hip checking in a snap. Unless it’s something small but those tend to be easier anyway.
Me playing Freedom Unite : *Gets stunned by Bnahabra and dies to Diablos charge*
Me playing Rise : *Gets stunned by Bnahabra and dies to a Zinogre shoulder check*
That's all the proof I need to know that, no matter what, this is still Monster Hunter.
Moral of the story: don‘t wait for a talisman based on your set, build a set based on a talisman you own or that can easily be obtained, while planning ahead for what changes the ultimate talisman would bring to it if rnjesus were to be particularly benevolent.
best way honestly, I got a weakness exploit 2, slugger 2 talisman and made quite a terrifying hammer build using it.
I knew the forgot to eat punch line was coming but still couldnt hold back a grin to how well it was executed

The biggest difference for me is still the Skill floor since even after playing MHW a shit ton i still sometimes do normal shit for older games like finding a good spot and time to heal lmao
Yeah then in MhW you can heal and move i was like "wtf did i enabled easy mod?"
you still want to at least watch when to heal in iceborne especially in endgame because i occasionally got killed when eating max pot, mhw healing is definitely safer and also faster because you can roll stuff after eat something, but old game healing is also not big of a deal since monsters moves like a stroke robot
Yeah I don't miss stopping and flexing every time I ate. Monsters feel way more aggressive and their combos feel way longer and faster than in old games so I think you'd be dead lol.
@@michaelm6179 Agreed. Having played games from both the older and newer gen, you had to stop to use items but your opportunities for doing so were also more readily apparent and frequent. In the newer gen, they gave you that extra movement but also made monsters follow up their previous attacks and combos a lot faster so now they stick to your ass for like 90% of the time until they get tired after 5-10 minutes to take a 5 second breather.
I remember hunt a cephadrome/cephalos when my sonic bomb runs out.. basically chasing desert fish going full circle

- A Horde of Apceros near a Diablos
Plebsioth made me give up on melee weapons and to this day, I still refuse to take any non swaxe/CB melee weapon on hunts.

Not that I would call it complicated really, just sometimes too restrictive. Certain skills just had a really low variety of armor pieces with a lot of points in that skill. And talismans were a huge deal for rounding out those extra points

The old System forces you to really think what skills you absolutely need on your set thus forcing specialisation instead of generalisation like in World or Rise, where you can simply slap ALL the skills on a single set of armor without problem. Which, in my opinion makes the game far more interesting as it restricts player character power, making it more about the individual skill with ones chosen weapon then anything else.

Also, I miss the times when you had to really prepare for quest, even if it was a regular large monster, you still needed some sort of preparation. Now, I feel like I can go into every quest with the same few items and be fine.
That ending slayed me. I love Monster Hunter too, I've played every game since 4U. I love Rise so much, the movement just feels so clean. And it is like every quest, I find new things I didn't know I could do before and it makes it just that much more fun.
This movement style has to stay around for future games, once we experience this we cannot go back.
I tried playing World yesterday after getting to MR in Sunbreak and
GOD it feels so much slower and more tedious to get around. Clutch Claw is so obviously a precursor to Wirebugs and it's so much worse designed and less satisfactory
Yeah, Rise is honestly just a ton of fun, other games have their charm as well, but Rise is fast paced and let's you go vertical. It also doesn't feel like it's at the expense of difficulty either, the monsters feel like they're more aggressive and have more combos.
