Always late to the party me. Just acquired a Survival Scarf tonight. Bought it and had it personally handed over by this fine young man who makes them. I'm looking forward to getting out and putting said scarf to good use. Thank you Neil. You're a good man sir!
@@greencraft4783 I thought having an overhand knot in one end of the scarf ( the sewn shut end) and using that as a stop for a cow hitch with paracord , and using the draw cord at the open end, but the way you showed seems to have more of the material available for the hammock
I bought a couple of yards of blaze orange cotton. Cut them in two pieces so they're roughly a yard square and hemmed the edges. They make good scarves, pot holders, triangular bandages, etc. I can also lay them out as signal panels.
Great bit of kit! So versatile. For the hammock you said sheet bend, but demonstrated a square/reef knot. I imagine a sheet bend would be easier to release or do either work as well?
Why not make it a bit longer and proof it with Nikwax or use Silnylon for the base so it’s a really simple waterproof bivy bag? Stuffing it with damp or wet leaves isn’t warm, a ccf mat is much better, and bombproof. You’d save yourself all that time and 1200 cals energy building that natural debris shelter. If you had less than 3 hours’ light it’d be too late.
That was rather unfortunate Neil, you try to shoot a video and everything imaginable tries it's best to ruin it. First the shooting starts, then the proverbial plane, followed by a Sheep and a Pidgeon's and then an errant Bluebottle just before the end. Top marks for not being phased by it, whilst sharing the many uses of such a practical and multipurpose piece of kit.

Mors had some great ideas. The survival scarf and 2kg pot survival kit being two of my favourite. 🏴👍
I have always considered my shemagh to be my most multi use piece of kit, but your survival scarf is a definite upgrade I will consider getting
I've had mine for a couple of years now and it a very versatile piece of gear! ATB Sam Adler from Vietnam
I love mine, and now I know how to turn it into a hammock!
Make sure your knots are good Keith!
