Old orange survival bivvy bag, flip inside out and get some carpet adhesive.
Cover in spaceblanket/mylar sheet and when dry flip it backways.
Throw your sleeping bag in that.
    Budget winner lol.

best clothing for bushcraft I tried was: canada goose jacket they go around 560-1600 dollars depending on a model. If thats too much you can go for Fjällräven they cheaper, good quality, they go around 280-1100. Also for winter hat - Gucci wool or cashmere hat sits very nicely on the head, they go for 460-530

Having been in the military I got used to a heavier bag, but this sounds better than anything that was issued at the time. Good to know. Thanks for sharing this.

Good presentation and good advice for the budget minded. I’ve got the complete system and have used them in many seasons on the ground and in a hammock. The only down side is the weight but I don’t mind that because in my case I know they’ll still be going when I’m not.

I thought you might wheel out the Buffalo bag! The only reason Timmy (Fingers) Ford didn't pinch it was because by heck it did wiff! Nice job as always Sir.

Freight from UK to Australia will almost double cost of most things. Id love to get one of these systems but cost prohibative. I bought an Arctic issue bag. Big and damn heavy but oh love that in winter in front of a fire half zipped up. Worth the weight. It cost me like 240AUD landed here.
Our main wood, Eucalyptus gum. In winter say a 12 14 foot log sawed into foot legnths is plenty for best part 12hrs. Keep half a dozen pieces for sleep time. Throw 3 on lay back in arctic bag just zipped to legs. About 4 hour later lean over throw another 2 logs on zzz. Frieght may suck to here. But no waking up on the hour.
I got a down bag for longer hikes. Cost 140 from anaconda denalli their brand. Winter her is like 6 8°c where I am. A bit cold at 3° so bought another. Both fit in a brit summer issue compression sack.
I dunno if you have Anaconda there but here winter gear end of season its like 50% of winter price. If you can get buy through winter might be an option to see end of season prices on down. It IS more care. Just be a bit carefulf with it nikwax to wash it. But...it is soooo much lighter.
Horses for courses. The 2 bags Neil saw for £50 each. Thats a 100, in AUD be 170, an easy extra 100AUD registered mail signature frieght. So cheaper to go down for me, by getting 2 cheap bags to put in each other.. Royal Mail, DHL, any freight is so expensive from UK to here. Funnily enough freight is like half UK rate if I buy online in USA🤷‍♂️

Great advice, if I was starting again I'd definitely go modular.

Nice video! I have been using the Carinthia system, with the Defense 4 and the Tropen and love this system! Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪

It was one of your earlier videos that got me thinking about using the kit issued by our military. It's made for the job and takes the life of a soldier - falling off the backs of planes, lorries etc, in all terrains and wet and dry places, mine used to get proper abused. So I reissued myself with kit and Bergen. I love the modular systems. I now have kit for all occasions, as a keen cyclist I look at bike packing and touring bike options that allow me to cover a vast distance should i wish to, Edinburgh to Athens is on my list soon. A couple of years ago I went from Anglesey to Whitby and back to Trawden where I was living at the time.
New adventures will go on my channel now I'm more confident about showing myself on videos. I'm making videos showing the kit I'll use and test them out before having to rely on them, (6 P's in action...lol) Thanks for posting I like the stuff you do, no rambling just get on with it like simon and Rick T.

Good information there mate. I go duck/goose down (a 250 fill and 800) as syntethic is too large (packed) for me...I Winter camp as well (here is central Sweden) two nights every week year around and size is super important as I have to house my pack in my school locker during the evenings of camping. Condensation is a bit shit and the second night is slightly less warm as the first night but they work fine. Of course the price is nowhere near the prices you mentioned but this is a purchase worth making in my opinion (mine are the cheaper duck down, 250 fill =120Euro and the 800 fill=270 euro. Bought them a few years ago in a sale).

For me, the price vs weight of the MSS answered the curse of the infantry: "travel light, freeze at night."

The intermediate bag doesn’t have neck baffles, just ones up the zip. It’s a brilliant bag, I slept toasty in it in my underwear, in a German Bundeswehr canvas pup tent whilst outside, my milk and a banana froze solid!
