86 has to be a hard choice with puppets, reign in blood, and peace sells
Yeah 86 had so many master peices that year u could have picked a few different ones and still been right
Well.... Iron Maiden's Caught Somewhere In Time was great too......
@@Legolion17 yeah but that year is completely thrash
@King Nereus voivod roar for me is one of the most extreme in that year, dimension hatross is my favorite
@King Nereus Search well, it was released in 86
You guys couldn't find a creeping death clip from 1984 with Cliff Burton in it?
That's what i was thinking haha
That sucks! Cliff'em all!
Cliff em all
There actually isn't any footage of Creeping Death from 1984. The closest thing is Day on the green 1985.
Fuck, that's what I was thinking
Alright, so I guess you forgot that Master of Puppets was released in 1986
Angel of death is better in my opinion
SultanSkye
Peace Sells was better than Angel of death, and Master just crushed everything else imo
@@sultanskye5176 yeah, its dificult to say what music is better because its all about you opinion, some people think that Disposable heroes is the best music of MOP and you have "Welcome home sanitarium" and "Orion", so i think the album was in its totality the best metal thing that happens that year
Master of puppets should have been listed, but at least they didn't put Raining Blood over Angel of Death. Raining blood is really overrated imo. I prefer Metallica and Megadeth over Slayer
@@GUIhintz I agree that Master have better songs, imo, than the homonymous song, battery is more fast, Welcome Home is just epic, and Orion... I have no words. But Master of Puppets is the most influent of them all. At least not in this universe this song should be down Angel of Death.
1:49 the problem with using this video is Jason wasn’t in Metallica in 1984 because Cliff was still alive. Rest In Peace Cliff and Ray Burton.
Ray is with both of his sons now
@Oli Grant, or Fade to Black
It was Jasons Satanic backing vocals that they had to feature
A performance with Jason is much better than any performance with Cliff
@@porcelainwings Agreed
1980 - Heaven And Hell , Prowler
1981 - Wrathchild, Breaker
1982 - Hallowed Be Thy Name, Electric Eye
1983 - Balls To The Wall, Trooper, Holy Diver,No Remorse, Black Magic
1984 - Jawbreaker, Sentinel ,Aces High,Creeping Death, We Rock, I Wanna Be Somebody
1985 - Hell Awaits, Ride The Sky
1986 - Raining Blood,Angel Of Death, Post Mortem, Master Of Puppets, Battery , Wasted Years, Alexander The Great
1987 - Indians, All We Are, Under Jolly Roger, Over The Wall, They Want War
1988 - Blackened, Dyers Eve, Ram It Down, Conquistadores, Behind A Crooked Cross, South Of Heaven,Hail And Kill
1989 - Mean Man, Riding The Storm, Bad To The Bone, Agent Orange
.....good........
nice . . . i'd only add Peace Sells for a very crowded 1986. what a year for metal.
Holy shit man great list. you even added hellowee
1986 - Good Mourning (Black Friday), Wake Up Dead, Raining Blood, Lepper Messiah
1988 - In My Darkest Hour, Harvester of Sorrow, The Shortest Straw, Seventh Son Of a Seventh Son
1989 - Inner Self, Beneath The Remains, Mass Hypnosis
Shot In The Dark from 1986
I wasn't expecting Death nor Morbid Angel on this kind of list... kudos guys
I had a feeling Death would be there but honestly I didn't expect Morbid Angel.
Exodus too
I've got to be the one to say that the eighties were the golden age for metal. Literally this video showed the evolution - Regual Metal, Punk influenced Metal, Thrash Metal, Death Metal. I wasn't even born in the eighties or nineties, but I got to say that music back there beats most mainstream music nowadays. It's even better than some modern metal songs (not all).
1984 - Rime of the Ancient Mariner (Iron Maiden)
1986 - Master of Puppets (Metallica)
1989 - Beneath the Remains (Sepultura)
uh iron maiden suxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
@409LP Trapped under Ice/ For Whom the Bell Tools?
Rime of the Ancient Mariner is one of the most underplayed and underappreciated IM songs.
Benstar985 people hate on escape, trapped under ice and fight fire with fire despite being some of the best songs in the album. In fact, IMO ride the lightning is the best Metallica album.
@@callmestubz I agree
1980 - Neon Knights
1981- Welcome To Hell
1982 - Hallowed Be Thy Name
1983 - Institutionalized
1984 - Chemical Warfare
1985 - Mistress Of Pain
1986 - Altar Of Sacrifice
1987 - Septic Schizo
1988 - Left To Die
1989 - Thrashard
No megadeth at all?? I dont know about that one. But it's a ok list I guess everyone has different taste in metal.
Instrumentally i agree. A lot other bands just hard far superior vocals though.
Instrumentally megadeth is one of the top, but damn the vocals pain my ears. That Eye of Tornado just hurts to hear
@@shadowgunner1526 eye of tornado lol
so many good picks its hard
yeah no kidding especially no Anthrax and there's several more down the line
Damn right it's Dio in 1983
Said that last time.
I like more Stand Up and Shout, but cannot be disagree with Holy Diver neither.
@@alienduce-unocero I mean the whole album is amazing. I would have preferred Rainbow.
Meh Four Horsemen should've been 1983
My senior year in HS, an incredible year for metal....love Holy Diver, but could easily be Seek and Destroy, Motorbreath, Four Horseman, Whiplash, Power and the Glory, Queen of the Reich,....what a year!
The Sentinel? Not one single Judas Priest song?
Exactly, Judas should have been in at least one
Probably wanted to make it fair and give everyone a chance and since they had Judas twice in the 70's video, they didnt put them here. Because 80's were full of legendary songs and bands so it's hard to pick which one. I assume when the make this for the 90's painkiller will be there
I love ‘80s Priest A LOT, but the competition is so damn tough!
@Dolegov if they dont place painkiller in the 1990 song im gonna kill them
Ikr? Wtf!
where is master of puppets
xristos matsoukas I know, that song basically defined the 80’s
so true...
xristos matsoukas not that Angel of Death is bad, it’s just Master of Puppets is that years song
@@seanslawson98 yes so true
xristos matsoukas Slayer>Metallica
1980- Crazy train- Ozzy
1981- over the mountain-Ozzy
1982- Electric eye- Judas Priest
1983- die by the sword slayer
1984- ride the lightning- Metallica
1985- At dawn they sleep- Slayer
1986- Good mourning/ black friday- Megadeth
1987- Mr Scary- Dokken
1988- Pull the plug- Death
1989- Inner self- Sepultura
black friday shouldve definitely won 86
Crazy Train, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Creeping Death, One, and Angel Of Death, my favorites.
Heavy fucking metal, the best type of music!
ROCK & METAL MUSIC LOVER I thought Slayer was thrash metal and not heavy?
Best metal decade
Worst*
If you lived it...without question. Heavy Metal was the buzz word and was everywhere in the 80s.... Some of the best and worst music in the whole history of Metal... good times.
FACT
*best music decade
Yanivush147 i agree
Damn right some Death.
so cool , creeping death , not a just a song , but a statement to what metal is.
A biblical inspiration?
yea , i see it as the music is sow intense , it puts you on situation even if this song doesnt have a video , it is a story from the bible , but the way it is performe , humongus!!
When Jason screams "Motherfucker, I shal pass!!"🤘🤘 Epic!
Best metallica song
I come here hoping for Creeping Death, thinking it would be Bell or Fade, not disappointed
1980 Running free or Breaking the law
1981 Breaker or Purgatory
1983 The trooper or To tame a land
1984 Rime of the ancient mariner
1985 Kill again or Ride the sky
1990 Spiritual healing
For '84 I would've gone with Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner
I saw Death I insta liked
Herr Von und Zu sameeee
same.
So many things wrong with this video
The lack of Tony Gonzalez for example, what is that all about?
Whats wrong?
Many tyrants of the 80's were left out and what defines "the greatest song". Different songs appeal to different people
No master of puppets or fade to black
@@hg508 specially Fade to Black dude
Let's not bicker over bands. Just enjoy the metal
Well said! 🤘
0:26 wow, this impressive Paul is pretty good
0:56 OH MY GOD THIS IS AMAZING!!!! THE BEST FRONTMAN IN METAL HISTORY!!!!!!!!!!!BRUCE IS THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME!!!!
82 Run to the Hills
83 The Trooper
No question, the 1980's was the best decade ever.
No the 90s, that decade produced the best, loudest, and fastest metal.....my belief.
Nah! The 90's was! Alt rock in the 90's was the best compared to th trash of the 80's (hair "metal").
Most overrated decade ever*
I’d say 70’s were better with Progressive Rock
@Colton Ghil for metal could be, but for music the 70's ruled
It’s weird. You’d think the greatest metal song of the 80s, Master of Puppets, would also be the greatest metal song of 86. That would just be logical, no?
No
Yes but Angel of death slaps master of puppets around wouldn't you agree
@@andresnolasco6067 I agree
Andres Nolasco I wouldn’t agree. Angel of Death is good, but Master of Puppets is considered to be the greatest metal song of all time. Angel of Death is just a Slayer song.
Isaac White Holy wars is the greatest metal song of all time
I'm a simple man. I see James Heitfield, I click!
*Hetfield
Sounds to me like you're a good man 🤘
Hell yeah!
You sure am then
Same I love James Hetfield
1:53 you good there Jason?😂
Let me see if I can rearrange this list:
1980: Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne
1981: Diary of a Madman - Ozzy Osbourne
1982: Hallowed be Thy Name - Iron Maiden
1983: The Trooper - Iron Maiden
1984: For Whom the Bell Tolls - Metallica
1985: Madhouse - Anthrax
1986: Master of Puppets - Metallica
1987: Caught in a Mosh - Anthrax
1988: One - Metallica
1989: Toxic Waltz - Exodus
Caught in a mosh is definitly not better than anything from Scream bloody gore
Ian Sorola Creep, Fight, or Ride would’ve been better than Tolls. It’s just too slow. Not that it isn’t badass
Ian Sorola 1981??? Thats an album not a song. The song should be Over The Mountain
Anthrax is definitely not better than fucking Exodus. Anthrax is a disgrace to thrash.
Megadeth better be big in the 90s!
they're gonna take 1990 with holy wars
@@bax9231 What about Painkiller
Its pretty rough compitition with painkiller and cowboys from hell but i think megadeth will take it and then pantera will take 1992
@@bax9231 1994 could be 5 minutes alone
Bax u got it right
Mr Crowley over crazy train. Any day of the week!
i prefer no more tears
Except on sundays, that´s a "good by to romance day" oh and "Mother " tuesday
Honestly any other song off of Blizzard of Ozz
Heaven And Hell or Neon Knights much better.
Bark at the Moon over all of those
Just seeing how quickly metal evolved in the 80s is awesome, going from Iron Maiden and Dio to Slayer and Morbid Angel, it’s pretty cool
86 Master of Puppets. Obey your master Loudwire. The greatest metal song of 1980s
Greatest metal song? Might be 'greatest' thrash metal song based on record sales.
@@PriyankaDas-fe6hm Yeah, and only based on record sales.
Lol, Angel of Death surpasses Master of Puppets.
Of the 80s? Of all time!
Not even the best song of '86
1986. What an amazing year for heavy metal 🤘
for me is:
1980 - Heaven And Hell (Black Sabbath)
1981 - YYZ (Rush) (for me it is metal)
1982 - Hallowed Be Thy Name (Iron Maiden)
1983 - Holy Diver (Dio)
1984 - Powerslave (Iron Maiden)
1985 - Strike Of The Beast (Exodus)
1986 - Master Of Puppets (Metallica)
1987 - Indians (Anthrax)
1988 - One (Metallica)
1989 - Alison Hell (Annihilator)
1982 - Thriller (Michael Jackson) (For Me Is Metal)
None of them of 82 is metal
1980 - Heaven And Hell
1981 - Over The Mountain
1982 - Hallowed By Thy Name
1984 - Fight Fire With Fire
1985 - At Dawn They Sleep
1986 - Angel Of Death
1987 - Caught In A Mosh
1988 - The Frayed Ends Of Sanity
1989 - Mass Hypnosis
This is one of my Greatest Metal Songs of the 1980s list below:
1980: Judas Priest - Breaking The Law
1981: Def Leppard - Bringin' On the Heartbreak
1982: Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name
1983: Suicidal Tendencies - Institutionalized
1984: Metallica - Fade To Black
1985: Dio - Rock 'N' Roll Children
1986: Metallica - Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
1987: Anthrax - Indians
1988: Metallica - ...And Justice for All
1989: Sepultura - Inner Self
This is the type of list that's impossible to nail down. So many great metal songs from the 80's that the songs on this list doesn't even begin to scratch the surface.
Hey, thanks for getting right to the songs and not talking. That's a rarity on TH-cam. Subscribed.
Loved them all but where're the Priest ones?
@Christopher Bingham Judas changed styles to keep up with the times painkiller dude
@Christopher Bingham again they changed styles dude Judas might have been slow to answer back but they did with painkiller you look at that band and here all the album's they kept up Metallica got mainstream towards the end shit Metallica bows down to Judas godfather's of heavy metal dude
@Christopher Bingham they sound better live in the 70s with unleashed in the east those studio recording's sucked ass but live holy shit
I prefer Maze of torment! Chapel is a great song, but Maze got such delicious intro and mid section solo... And Angel of death...Reigning blood man...
80's without Judas Priest, Cinderella, Skid Row, Testament ?
Popped up in my feed, felt it was worth a view and some time. Thanks guys.
Impossible category, as we all know. I was never a death/black metal fan so I'd have gone in a different direction for them. Using wiki for reference so apologies in advance for any errors, we know their track record.
1981: Toughie for sure but I'll stick with the same release just swap over to the title track, Killers.
1982: Jonny Z called Hallowed the perfect song. I am not gonna argue with him. However, it's maybe a dead heat between Children of the Damned & 22 Acacia Avenue. I cannot make a choice but either of the three would have gotten my vote.
1983: Another incredibly hard year to judge I'm going to have to go with Queensryche, The Lady Wore Black but I'm not going to kill you for going with the guy I've always called the tiny man with the huge voice. Dio.
1984: As the handle suggests, I am an incredibly biased Maiden fan so being my favorite song of all time, Rime of the Ancient Mariner takes that spot. But have to agree, Creeping Death is hard to top.
1985: Hardest so far. With KISS (maybe not metal), Dokken, Anthrax, Kix, Overkill - among others, I am going to go with Medusa over In My Dreams by a nose.
1986: Welcome Home (Sanitarium). Fave 'tallica tune so get's my vote here.
1987: Think I am going with Whitesnake Still of the Night over a number of Anthrax tunes off Among the Living, Rock Soldiers or Into the Night by Frehley's Comet, something off Fighting the World by Manowar - wow, what a great record. Maybe Defender. Future World by Pretty Maids also in consideration.
1988: Mindcrime came out that year. Gotta go with Eyes of a Stranger although there are others which could be inserted.
1989: Skid Row, Youth Gone Wild. Again a fave from a fave.
1980-heaven and hell,neon knights etc
1981-wrathchild,live wire,to fast for love etc
1982-hallowed be thy name, electric eye, number of the beast, run to the hills, children of the damned
1983-balls to the wall, trooper, holy diver, the four horseman, seek and destroy, stand up and shout, don't talk to strangers
1984-sentinal,aces high,creeping death,we rock,last in line
1985-hell awaits,anything from seven churches
1986-master of pupets,battery,wasted years,alexander the great,angel of death
1987-indians,caught in a mosh,all we are,fighting the world,evil dead,zombie ritual
1988-blackened,dyers eve,ram it down,hail and kill,eagle fly free,i want out,gandalfs rebirth, wizards crown,
1989-valhalla,agent orange,chaple of ghouls etc
1984 - RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER

Nikolai Kolev Imagine being this wrong.
I loved watching it progress from Heavy Metal to Trash to Death. I really wish I was around when all these genres were coming out, I feel like it would have blown my mind. The list is pretty decent but obviously you can't just choose 1 song for an entire year of content but pretty solid overall.
My personal list:
80 - Heaven and Hell
81 - Killers
82 - Hallowed
83 - Where Eagles Dare
84 - For Whom
85 - At Dawn They Sleep

1983 - Hard to chose between Holy Diver and Bark At The Moon (Also Metallica's: Seek and Destroy, The 4 Horsemen, Hit The Lights, Anesthesia Pulling Teeth and Metal Millitia.)

1989 - Kickstart My Heart
Creeping Death, Death, Angel of Death.... I sense a theme.
Best decade for metal.
I prefer Raining Blood in 1986
Same i was surprised it wasnt raining blood, not to say that angel of death is bad
THANK YOUUU
Like Slayer too....but Master of Puppets is obvious. Heck Id put Damage Inc. There too.
Should have been raining blood
ehh master of puppets really deserved 86
Great video, actually doing good with the whole "best by year" slayer definitely deserves that spot of Metallica, honestly An amazing choice
I'm a simple man, I see Death, I hit the like button
Minus Metallica, this is a list I can totally get behind!
Honestly Iron Maiden could have been the choice from 1980- 1984
1980 - Phantom of the Opera

97. Ye Entrancemperium - Emperor

Cemetery Gates came out in ‘90 on the Cowboys From Hell album, but you could put any song from Vulgar Display of Power for ‘92, like “Walk”, “Fucking Hostile”, “Mouth for War”

Nikolai Kolev Ace Of Spades is DEFINITELY metal.
Nikolai Kolev Oh yeah ...

That's a great question... ♠️
SLAYER WAS AWESOME IN 1986 I WISH I SAW THAT CONCERT
1980: Crazy Train
1981: Burning for You
1982: Run To The Hills
1983: Seek and Destroy
1984: Rock You Like A Hurricane
1985: Mechanix
1986: Master of Puppets/Raining Blood
1987: Paradise City
1988: One
1989: From Out of Nowhere
Scorpions, GNR and Faith No More are not Metal IMO.
But OK
My picks:
1980: Phantom Of The Opera (Iron Maiden).
1981: Wratchild (Iron Maiden) (Agree).
1982: Riding On The Wind (Judas Priest).
1983: Seek And Destroy (Metallica).
1984: Fade To Black (Metallica).
1985: Strike Of The Beast (Exodus) (agree).
1986: Master Of Puppets (Metallica).
1987: Curse Of The Legions Of Death (Testament).
1988: One (Metallica) (totally agree).
Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Phantom of the Opera
woooooowww,yes my friend.......up the irons....
3:19. RIP Chuck Schuldiner
I've always prefered Stand Up and Shout or Dont Talk to Strangers over Holy Diver but solid choice. Maybe would've chosen The Trooper myself
This was actually a good list, well done noisy cable
1 - Black Sabbath - Neon Knights 1980
Glad death and morbid angel were on the lists, Death Metal put a important role on heavy metal.
1980 - Black Sabbath "Heaven and Hell"
1981 - Riot " Swords and Tequila"
1982 - Iron Maiden "Halloween be thy Name"
1983 - Mercyful Fate "Satan's Fall"
1984 - Metallica "Ride the Lightning"
1985 - Accept "Metal Heart"
1986 - Metallica "Master of Puppets"
1987 - Bathory "Woman of Dark Desires"
1988 - Slayer "South of Heaven"
1989 - Candlemass "Into the Unfathomed Tower"
@TheVirusSoftware I was very, very undecided about 1986, it was a very memorable year.
Decent
Hit the nail on the head with Crazy Train Creeping Death, Hallowed be they name, One and Holy Diver !!
1984 -fight fire with fire
1985 -dunno
1986 -master of puppets
These lists are an impossible task. So many great bands left out. Anthrax, Priest, Megadeth, Annihilator to name but a few...
1985: The Mechanix
1987: In my Darkest Hour
*85 - at dawn they sleep
*87 - set the world afire
Vic Rattlehead if they didn’t add four horsemen then they definitely wouldn’t add mechanix
revelations - iron maiden 83 by far better
I'm a simple man, I see Death, I like
my favorite thing about these types of videos is the people in the comments getting pissed because certain songs aren’t on the list
1983, my senior year in high school...listening to Gene Khoury on WMSC every Saturday night......nothing could ever top it. Great year for metal. How can I ever decide...Holy Diver, Fast As A Shark, Starship Sentinal, Gates of Valhalla, Under the Blade, Screaming In The Night, Power and the Glory, The Eagle Has Landed, Queen of the Reich, Hurricane, Fire Dance, To Tame a Land, anything from Kill em All
Yeeeiiyeeeiiyeah! Hallowed be thy name
up the irons always......
In 1984 I would choose 2 Minutes To Midnight or Access High
rime of the ancient mariner.........my friend too....
'Heaven and Hell' should be THE SONG of 1980...
I'm kinda surprised that for Master of Puppets wasn't the choice for 1986 or even Rock You Like A Hurricane for '84, I'm still pretty happy to see Maiden though (Wrathchild was one of the first Steve Harris bass line I ever learned and Il'l now have to check out Hallowed Be Thy Name)
I think every metal fan has his own top 10 !!!!
sure.......
Raining Blood would’ve been better for 1986, in my opinion.
I swear to God, if in the best songs of the 90s there won't be Arise or Dead Embryonic Cells by Sepultura, heads will roll
StrikerUSS
The 80’s list did include Death and Morbid Angel so there is hope for Sepultura in the 90s
Some heads are gonna roll!
Mercy
What else could give Sepultura competition for that year?
VietnamDO820 Most likely Enter Sandman. I think Sepultura will be 1993 or 1996 honestly.

The lists are “greatest metal songs”, not most popular...that said, Enter Sandman could still very well win...I like that song, but Arise or Dead Embryonic Cells are both better
what about other band's besides metallica, slayer and other thrash bands? or will your audience of the cargo short brigade cry about it not being "real metal"?
my top ten
1983- killing is my business
1985 - devils island
1987- hook in mouth
The best choice for 89!!
1984 should be "The Sentinel"
1986 should be "Master of puppets"
1986 is OK as it is
1985 should be Peace Sells
I love Crazy Train but 1980 belongs to the masters;
"Heaven and Hell"!!!!!!!!!!!
......agree my friend........
I think Ace of Spades gets it for 1980.
Everyone freaking out about slayer over Metallica slayer created the thrash genre to me and influenced possessed the first death metal band
Agreed
It is well known that Metallica created trash metal.
Actually, Metallica created thrash basically. Seeing Metallica play live is what inspired Slayer to play faster and more aggressive.
1986 is the hardest year to decide. Every band snapped.
Hallowed be thy name 🔥🔥🔥
