Great review. My partner has the Arc'teryx jacket and I have the OutDoor research so it's nice to get a detailed review of both. I'm definitely glad that I went with the OR jacket. 😄
Truly a wonderful review Channel! It's very tough to find someone who is as detail-oriented and gear conscious as I am. Thank you for the excellent work
just bought a helium (70 % off at backcountry). I am 6ft tall and weigh 205 lbs fits great and still roomy enough for base/mid. Awesom jacket upgraded from a TNF 700 fill
Thank you for this review! I like how you compared the warmth in this review. Would you say the Outdoor Research Helium Down Hoodie is warmer than the Patagonia Down Hoody/Sweater? Which one would you recommend? Just got the Outdoor Research Helium Down Hoodie and interested in your opinion!
Patagonia uses lesser quality down and to the warmth to weight ratio is better for the helium down hoodie and the price point is fair. Id personally go with the helium
Outdoor Research has the new Superstrand LT synthetic jacket. It has performed very well for me in Mid to Low 30s wearing a base layer and long sleeve shirt. Its also lighter than my Helium Down.
Hey! Great review, may I ask for a sizing advice for Cerium LT? I'm 6'1 and 200 lbs and I'd like it to have some room underneath so I guess I should go for XL, right? Also is that dynasty colorway more red or orange?
Me too - struggling with the sizing. I need to find an REI or somewhere where I can try and compare the small and medium. I am short 5’7ish I wear large shirts and prob at least medium sometimes large jackets. Broad shoulders. Short arms…. Arghh…. To think you went small size and guessing just from vídeo website not too far off. Anyway…. Sorry nobody cares about my sizing dilemma…. Thx for the video!!!
O.R. should embroider a Stegosaurus or Triceratops on the jacket and then they can charge another $100. Arcteryx makes beautiful gear and leads in style, but the price is not realistic especially considering that the company is in Canada which has very weak currency
what is your height and weight? Chest size if you don't mind. I'm 5:9 160 athletic build. The website says small is my size, but all the reviews say go up a size. Looking for some help here. : ) Great review.
@@BackcountryRenegade sorry just to confirm the helium is looser than the Patagonia down sweater? Just wanted to make sure because your comment reads like you thought I was asking to compare the cerium to the helium. Thanks!
@@BackcountryRenegade no worries. I just read wrong. Thank you again. You were spot on with your proton lt videos btw. We are roughly the same height/weight and the fit is great for me as well.
Technically it’s two jackets but thanks for the comment I would like to do less if possible but wrestling with how much detail to give vs time. Decided to give as much detail as possible but I’ll see how I can make future vids shorter. Thanks for the feedback

It's crazy how difficult it is to shop for down hoodies! But your page, and this video in particular, finally helped me pull the trigger. Thanks!
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching !

Great thorough review. Just ordered the OR on sale.
best explanation , I never get !! congratulations Prof .
Solid review, Thank you!
The helium down hoody .. We get a few weeks in the minus 20 C... Would this jacket be suitable with a arcteryx kyanite fleece.. Thanks

@@BackcountryRenegade Awesome - thank you! Glad I went with the Helium then!
With the helium I felt comfortable skiing at 10 degrees f, with a baselayer and midlayer underneath.
Awesome thanks for sharing ur experience!
Great review!
I just have one other question: Does the helium feel noticably less breathable than the Arcteryx because of the waterproof parts?
it does feel a bit less breathable and noticeably heavier
Would you choose the OR helium over the Patagonia down jacket for urban winter use in southern Canada? Which one is warmer with minimal movement?
OR 👍🏼

Nice! I’ll have to check that out. Thanks for mentioning it

What is the fill amount in each jacket?
The helium should have the tougher fabric all the way down the sleeves. That’s where most tears happen.
agreed., i think they put it here to counter backpack rub

Curious how tall you are? I am looking to get the cerium, but can’t decide between small & medium. I’m 5’10, slim body, climber.
Im 5’7. I would say if ur a climber go with a med. that way the arms don’t run up when you reach for holds
Awesome! Subbed
How’s the fit on the helium compare to the Patagonia down sweater?
The helium is a tad looser and relaxed which allows for more layering. It is also a bit longer in the front. The cerium is trim fit

@@brandontom6230 sorry For being unclear, would say the helium is a tad more relaxed then the down sweater

OR much tighter & smaller thru the body.
The zipper on the arcteryx is sad to say that but it’s garbage and will break in no time
Is "functionality" better than "function" ? I hear TH-cam reviewers use the term all the time, and cringe
jacket too small
I like your hiking videos but 25 mins explaining a jacket will push viewers away from a hiking channel

Not all hikers have a short attention span. That apparently you do. Lol
