Still waiting on getting my bus back from the collision repair, hopefully will be this month. Calling every day now to get status updates... In the meantime I had my cousin ship my Starlink dish from his place in Wyoming (which I ordered months ago and let him use) to me to test out before I head to LA to pickup the bus. It took about ten minutes to setup and it came up in about five minutes. I unplugged my company network overlay router from the home ISP router which is a fiber connection and plugged it into the Starlink router via the ethernet adapter and hey everything works no muss no fuss!!! Right now I just have the dish sitting out in the yard to gain some experience. Initial speed test: 110MB download and 15MB upload. Monthly cost $135.00 with mobility which means that it works practically anywhere it can see the northern sky.
I'm so lost when it comes to tech stuff so about 90% of what you said was Greek to me. Lol. I have friends who seem to like it, but since I'm a technically challenged I've been reluctant. I just drive to where I can get wifi or data. Lol. Thanks for the review. Your opinion is very thorough. 😊

We are currently on the fence about starlink - I have had the opportunity to use it twice and both times it was very tempermental (REALLY fast one minute and REALLY slow a few minutes later or not working). Over the last year we have spent most of our time on the east coast as well as the south - for those regions the cell phone coverage is amazing. Now that we are closer to the midwest it has not been as great and I have been tempted by starlink a few times.
When you used it, were there trees around? I suspect the coverage may be better out west although the satellites are always moving. You might find the tracker at starlink.sx interesting. You can put in your location and it will show which satellites are serving you along with the ground stations. In the south, there are fewer and their locations are different. in the PNW there are many and the locations are generally above Canada. The starlink instructions say a clear view of the northern sky is necessary (no trees). If you have trees it will cope with them but it will result in small drops in coverage. If you’re streaming it doesn’t matter because of caching but if you’re on a video call trees would not be good. I’m sure you know that you can turn the RV service on and off in monthly increments. Ours is currently off because we’re obviously not traveling at the moment but if you do decide that you want to use it you’ve got to pay for an entire month at $135. It will work in the middle of nowhere, but I believe you have to have a cell signal of some sort to be able to reactivate it if it wasn’t on already.
In southern CA I’d recommend J&R diesel in riverside. Northern CA coach maintenance in Williams. Ted that owns that shop is getting near retirement and mostly helps folks out and works at his own schedule and pace.
