We bought a new bus! Unfortunately, we had a breakdown on our maiden trip home.

  • We bought a 1962 GM 4106 with a Detroit diesel 6v92TA and Allison V730 transmission in it. The bus has a roof raise, original back glass and windows, and no holes cut in the sides to maintain the original appearance. It has a very functional floor plan, only needing some minor updates to suit our taste. It’ll take us a year to figure out what we bought…

    It’s always good when you actually find the problem, regardless of what it is.

    If it doesn’t have a door that whistles it’s a winner!!! Congratulations Scott!!!

    A turbo isn’t so bad if that’s all. Congrats on the new bus! Looks great! Can’t wait to see more.

    There is a 1/4 inch of material missing all the way around that turbo impeller that has been shoved through that engine now. Id be checking rings and bearings mate.

    Joe is awesome, he will get you fixed up. Spent an hour on the phone with him talking Detroits, appreciated the knowledge! Turbo looks fairly easy to get to on that engine. Ours are not that easy to get at and get them out. I did my buddies turbo for him, looks like you have a different turbo on your bus, is that big metal tube the turbo drain?

    • @ThisOldBus
      @ThisOldBus  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure which big tube you’re talking about. The oil feed is the small line going up to the top of it, the return is inside its mount.

      @@ThisOldBust’s the cast tube between the skinner air shut down and the air intake horn, looks like it’s coming down from the turbo. Looking at it closely, maybe it’s just the turbo mount and not a tube?

      @@GinosGarageUSA yeah that’s the mount and oil return.

    Why do people say they bought a new bus when it is old? New is new……. Vintage is vintage….. safe travels.
