Jeep wrangler CAN-C canbus error FIX - replace STAR connector
Our 2019 Jeep wrangler JLU was throwing every possible error code on the dashboard and sometimes was unsafe as a result. The dashboard would completely freak out and sometimes the engine would die. After 2 months at the dealer we got fed up and decided to take matters into our own hands. The errors were related to the Canbus, specially the CAN-C data bus that most of the computers use to communicate in the Jeep and many other Mopar vehicles. Some folks on the Jeep wrangler forums had reported that replacing the STAR connector behind the glovebox fixed their issue. I’m happy to report that indeed it fixed our problem as well. Does your Jeep behave like shown in this video, showing every error on the dash? Check out how we fixed it.

GM 4016 Bus Steering Caster adjustment

Our new-to-us bus is wandering a bit going down the road. Our old bus doesn’t have this issue because we spent a lot of time getting that sorted out, and its steering is tight - we want the same on this bus. Fixing the 50DN alternator voltage regulator on our new bus

    That's not really "restored", unless you're referring to the restoration of an already heavily-modified bus. It certainly doesn't look like a 1956 "anything", never mind a 4104. I've never understood the incentive to modify the style of these classic coaches beyond recognition. Maybe some people don't believe that the 4104 was a handsome vehicle and its stylists knew what they were doing. Best of luck.

    I've never had a Detroit Diesel, but why is a coolant temperature of 195 degrees an issue? Most cars run somewhere in the neighborhood of 215 degrees without issue, Is it because this engine has an aftercooler?

    • @ThisOldBus
      @ThisOldBus 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s where I set my warning, over 200 is cause for concern, 210 you might be looking at engine damage, 215-220 you almost certainly have ruined it. I want to start making other plans at 195, 200 you better be pulling over and letting her cool off (I’ve never had to do that, but I will be downshifting or looking for the crest of the hill). They like to run cool and there isn’t a lot of room for error. 185 is normal operating temp on these old 2-stroke Detroit’s. They will make a lot of heat pulling a grade, cooling system needs to be in good working order, and if you turn up the power the cooling system needs upgrade too. Series 60 probably different and has computers to keep things in check.

    • @ThisOldBus
      @ThisOldBus 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Our first bus was a 4107 before we had a TH-cam channel. They have the same engine stock, so no more power. Bigger bays on a 4107. The drawback of a 4107 is they used dissimilar metals on more of the bus and many of them will have corrosion in the skin unless perhaps they’ve been stored inside most of their lives. The 4106 only has steel in the front around some of the windows, which is also a common corrosion area, but on the 4107 they used steel and aluminum on the sides too.

    Scott what a transformation after you put the new seats and flooring in. Where is the old bus? When will we take the new bus out on a trip Scott? Does the new 4106 have a little more pep than the other other 4106 Scott?

      Old bus is here, so now we have 2. Will probably sell old bus later this year when we are ready. New bus does have more pep, but mechanic doesn’t understand why. I think the cams are different.
