    I know this may sound dumb, but we have had people come in with the exact same problem. In quite a few cases, no one has ever changed their air filter. Some have the factory original air filter in that's 10+ years old. It's really hard to tell people without sounding unintentionally sarcastic that their air filter was clogged and needed to be replaced.

    Scotty you're the real deal and I appreciate your love for the truth in this age of selective hearing that we're in.
    I did the one thing I have preached my whole life...which I hear you say often,(Never buy a car without somebody with expertise to be checking it out first !)
    Well I did not have a certified mechanic look at this truck do to the fact it was in Idaho and I live in CALI.
    I saw this Toyo Tundra TRD 4x4 (Craigslist)and spoke with the perp about the truck and he assured me that this truck was sound. Works for the county road crew, he sounded honorable.
    Sent the $ to my daughter who was going to use this truck, she picked it up and drove for about an hour at which point the front end felt like there was a problem, so I said to stop at the nearest mechanic.
    When the guy got it up on the rack he called and said that he had never seen such a wreck as this truck
    because the front end was literally sheared off at the frame and someone had filled it in with spray foam thats used for insulation and painted it black. He said if she had gone any further she could have had a terrible accident. I am truly grateful she didn't die. A lesson learned for me but I wanted to share with you and your audience. Always listen to Scotty ! Keep up the great work !!

    • @jeffreydevoti7000
      @jeffreydevoti7000 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The valves are too tight. There's more clearance when cold, then as the engine runs it expands and the valves can't close all the way... thus hard to start hot.
      Doing the right thing, don't stop engine till finished mowing.
      If overhead valves, adjust with wrenches and feeler gauge.
      If side valve, the valves would have to be removed and a small amount ground off tip of valve stems till correct clearance is achieved. Even someone that knows what their doing takes quite a while to do.

    Another thing to watch for if you have hard start/poor idle on a warm engine is the coolant temperature sensor. Had one go back in my 97 Sierra a couple of years ago. It was just great starting/running cold, but as soon as the engine warmed up it flooded and died at idle.

    8:05 The "big guy" that makes certain the gas you pumped is up to quality standards is the municipal Judge which hears that you had the state inspector check the station's gas immediately after you begin having issues with the car. Then, and only then, you may get an award you can do something with. I paid $400 to have stealership clean out gas, immediately called the state and found there was high water levels in gas station's underground tanks but it took 3 months to get money back through the municipal court. Let the buyer beware! Another fantastic video.

    • @dafn865
      @dafn865 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      8:38 No need for lawyers. Just have your documentation from the state and expenses incurred at stealership along with receipt from gas purchase and file the civil suit yourself. This effort should verify Scotty's suggestion to use only fuel from a not so cheap reputable gas station. So you invest a little time. After you win an award, you're ahead AND cautious.

      Have also been given the advise not to fuel when you see a tanker filling the station's tanks. Stirred up residue could cause you a problem and you could wait till it settles or go to the other place. Can't be too cautious, may be something to this?

    My father worked the manufacturing and was on the oil gang(preventive maintenance). When the company switched to Shell oil, they had so many breakdowns it was unbelievable. Ultimately the company breached the contract and switch to Exxon Mobil. Shell is probably the last thing you want to put in any vehicle.

    Rural northern Alberta bad gas in small town with old gasoline storage tanks.If you see the fuel truck filling a gas stations tanks wait a few days before using their gas for the sediment to settle to the tank bottom.

      93? Uk Standard is 95 and premium fuel is 98 or 99. Great if you have Japanese turbo that is fuel mapped for it. I notice the difference straight away. Only downside is we pay $9 a gallon here due to tax.

    Another common hard to start problem can be the check valve in the fuel pump , it is designed to not bleed the pressure back when the engine is not running.

    Most cars today do not have a 'stand-alone fuel filter. It's some sort of screen in the gas tank, associated with the fuel pump.

    I just took a long trip with my car and had the live blue driver scanner on. I did it to see if the LTFT improved. I noticed that Chevron gas performed worse than Exxonmobil. It was clear because I filled up four times on the trip and the numbers were +9 for Chevron and +3 Exxonmobil. I want to keep my car going another 15 years.
