VW aircooled. 60's, before pollution control, simple as car-- can be...fun to drive. 30mpg. Great stick shift.
Every 1500/3000 mi: Change oil, Adjust valves, gap points, Grease suspension, adjust brakes and so on +...overhaul engine 80 to120k. No heater. Unsafe in collision. Structure tended to rust to repairable. Fun?

I Miss the PBS Show "Shade Tree Mechanic" and All Shows they did on the Weekend about Home Improvements and Car Shows that fixed them or Motor Week/Car Magazine Shows and the like.
Motorweek is actually still on PBS. They celebrated 40 years not long ago.

4:58 Subaru has placed their sensors behind the windshield because it won’t work if it gets covered in snow or ice and most Subarus are driven in snowy environments. Also a very minor collision would damage the system which would drive repair bills through the roof. When I was doing long haul trucking my last semi was a 2019 Freight liner Cascadia. It had collision mitigation, adaptive cruise (didn’t use in snow) and lane departure warning. When it snowed heavily my collision mitigation system wouldn’t work because it was mounted on the front bumper where snow would collect.

My last truck is a 2000 Freightliner FLD 112. The collision mitigation system sits in the driver seat holding on to the steering wheel and looking through the windshield. When the windshield gets cracked the collision mitigation system thinks " well thats about another $200".
Never knew much about cars but you really are helping me out, in about a yeat from now me and my girl will have our first child we have a gmc terrain 2019 but im hunting for a truck and i feel by that time im gona be ready to purchase my truck thanks to you scotty. Or ill end up with a 94 celica who knows !

You can get electric conversion kits for the VW Beetle. It works really well because of the rear engine and batteries in the front.

My uncle's Outback got hit by a rock from a truck, he had the crack filled with something and it held up alright until he sold it.
I've had multiple windsheilds repaired an NONE cracked. It works!
If you have it repaired right away, it definitely works. But if drive on bumpy roads any amount of time, forget about it & just replace the windshield.
Always like your style ,TH-cam keeps you in "Snickers" bars
My windshield got a drivers side crack in June 2008 amd I took it to get it filled.
Disapeared since, still have it (year 2000 Nissan Frontier 2.5 TDi diesel made in Japan). Hey Scotty!

The problem with some old vehicles is the PLASTIC crap. They shatter and are nigh impossible to replace.

I second Scotty's recommendation of older Ford and Mercedes diesels for an RV/Motorhome conversion. I've had both. Both great for this purpose, but the Merc was the best. It was reliable, tough, but a bit of a slug so I eventually took it in for a 3rd party Turbo conversion. The mechanic's eyes lit up and he said "those engines are built like a brick sh*thouse! Just wait until we put some boost on it!" He was right. We toured Europe for years in it. It pulled like a trooper, purred like a cat, and never let us down, well, apart from an alternator which packed in at 300,000 miles. So, I highly recommend Merc diesel commercial flat-trays as a basis for Motorhome. Particularly the cheap, high mileage, well maintained ones like our was..... Memories, eh?!
The old Beetles were the easiest car to work on sitting on your arse! All you need is a JC Whitney catalog and you could rebuild those cars from the ground up. 😃

Merced ee update on van: Re. Leek object channel near tma in utah just pulled the van out of red slik mud this week. They are Not off road things, very heavy n sink into almost dried mud. Rex goofy but had old jeep with wench(non girl type a wire tow cable) yanked it out. Its rv for asphalt campers.

I have watched your videos for along time your my go to when i have a problem with my car. I have a 2010 Ford Expedition and with the hood up i hard what’s best described as a loud ticking but from the cab you cant hear it unless your next to something where the sound can bounce of it like another car or a wall. Not sure what’s causing it. No codes or ck engine lights been this way for a very long time just wondered if you’d have a idea what’s causing it.
Mr Kilmer.i got a question for you.i got a 97gmc k1500.ive replaced its fuelpump twice already.and with some research ive read discovered(people saying) keep the truck above 1/4 full at all times so it keeps the pump cool and maybe now and then put some atf in the tank with a fillup,do you have any other advice thatl be useful to me?I like the truck i hunt with it and don’t really want to get rid of it.thanks

@6:42 Always do the basic. @6:49 Always start with the common simple things and work your way up. I took my car to a transmission shop, and the transmission shop swear up and down i had a bad transmission. I told them over and over its the ECM. $3400 later It was the ECM transmission computer. repair cost for ECM computer $150.

I've had really good luck with the windshield crack sealants.. the crack can't be too big and hasn't spread yet.. other than that.. I've had good success keeping from replacing windshield...

5:00 - there are 3 cameras on the windshield of the Tesla :) Gonna be expensive. Besides, a lot of BMW/Benz has rain sensors on windshield. Not cheap
Do not buy a Sprinter! They can have a lot of problems (ask me how I know) are are very expensive to repair and maintain. Most places won’t even open the hood on them because they are so complicated.
Mine ran and drove great (when it wasn’t in the shop) and got great fuel mileage.
But in the eight years that I owned it, maintaining it and all the repaires cost me close to $60,000.
On top of that, I don’t know about the more recent years but they were always rust buckets.
