Question for you. Does this synth need a keyboard to create sound. I can’t play piano. I was wondering if I just plug into a computer will I be able to produce sound?

Yep, if I had to buy synthesizers at the price stated by Moog, I would have accumulated the necessary amount except by the age of 90) It's good that monopolies have not yet captured our Earth ball to dictate their prices freely and there are companies like Beringer.

I bought a model d second hand like a year ago as I was hoping to get into synthesizing (I'm a guitar player). Anyway, fast forward a year later and In finally figuring out the model D. I figured out how to get some amazing sounds on my own after messing around with it for an afternoon, but this video is incredibly informative. Got pretty close here even though Lucky Man was originally played on the Moog modular by Emerson. The OG Mini had the same 901 oscillator circuitry though so that is a commonality.
I own a model D for a few months now. Mine turned out to be a semitone out of tune as well. As a first-time synth owner I was a bit scared to do it myself but after watching Behringer's tutorial video 15 times to be sure that i'm doing it right, it actually turned out to be very easy to do it. I didn't use a voltmeter or anything. I just used a screwdriver and Ableton's tuner to fix it. It was actually pretty easy. It's a pretty good learning synth. 3 osc, noise, and the nice filter allow you to do a lot of things already. Eventually the need for a polyphonic synth arisen and when I heard about Poly D, I actually got pretty excited. But when I heard the price I changed my mind and ordered a deepmind 12 instead.

Great synth, I love how it's juuust easy enough to get to grips with if you're new and the fact that there aren't any presets make this a really good learning tool I think. I'm still on the fence whether to put an overlay on it with more universal/modern terms though.

Great review. I've had the chance to compare the Model D to my 1975 vintage Minimoog D, and was thoroughly impressed. Great job Behringer. Only very very slight differences between the two, and only on very specific things like the behavior of the feedback trick. But that might even be like that between two genuine Minis anyway. In a blind test, nobody could tell which was which (we were four musicians doing the comparison). And the added LFO is really helpful. Nice Lucky Man patch, although missing some reverb... ;-)
I got one and it was great. Then i got a keystep(black) and it's mesmerizingly fun. Fit's right on the desk with my other 4 synths. And patching mix out to the external input is just greasy fun :D
Trig242 just in case someone reads your comment and indeed thinks these are facts of analog synth life - while this synth is a breakthrough in terms of price and value, I’ve seen quite a few analog monosynths, and none where you might need a voltmeter to get its pitch right. I’ve seen quite a few that save patches too.

This is the first time I’ve seen a synth of any kind that you’d need tools and an operations guide just for tuning. The original Model D has a button that plays A-440 and a Tuning knob. No assembly required!

Thank you for this excellent tutorial. I've been playing synths for almost 30 years but never learned how to edit patches. Why? Because the units I've owned were all digital and almost impossible to do manually. I recently got a Behringer Model D and it's a new world for me, but I am determined to learn analog synthesis. All this stuff is not extremely easy to learn but worth the effort. Cheers!
Two Mother32s for two years kept me off another mono analogue but just ordered a D for the benefits, three osc, overdrive, greater range of timbres. The D is going to be excellent with two Mothers, that's five osc to hand.
Just bought it and sounds great however note retrig doesn’t seem to work, only way to play another note is by releasing the note you are holding and play the other one, I m using the usb for midi in tho, maybe that’s the problem?
You talk about knob swap for filter CO. the tune knob in controllers is perfect for this and they really pop off and on very easily. I changed mine, works great.

I am planning to buy a Model D (perhaps a Neutron). I want to use some self made controllers ro control Filter-Frequency b.e., perhaps use some CVs to control the Oscillators. I have not found any useful informations about the voltage-range of the CV-voltages. Its 1V per Octave, but does it go from 0V to b.e. 10 or 12V or does it go from -5V to 5V? Thanks for your answer...
Thankyou I got a lot of learning out of that video but do admit i got a bit lost on the controllers section. The Mod mix switch/knob seems quite complicated. I could do with some more help on understanding this section
there may be a problem with your unit. Most likely though just crank resonance way high and move the filter cutoff left or right a bit and you'll hear it.
Amazing value! It has the physical beauty of the original. Though its semi modular feautures are great, I was torn in 2 because I longed for a Voyager RME with expansion boxes.Still would love that but they're now rare & expensive! I then opted for the fully modular AJH, which can be as much or more for 1 module as the Berry. At least with that I might buy bit by bit as I can afford. When I realised that there were options on AJH not found elsewhere I gave up on the Berry. HOWEVER!---- I just looked on modular grid & it looks like Behringer are planning on a Boogermod expansion euro module. It has 30 sockets, just over twice that of their model D alone. The only slight downer for me is even that still has no CV res in socket, which the AJH does. Mind you its in mock up stage so perhaps if enough of us talk nicely to Uli on gearslutz, he'll see if another socket can be squeezed in, or panel widened a bit?
When we shut of all the audio, (9:04) where do we get the SIN WAVE sound from? In the video you said, "Resonance will self oscillate" what does that mean? Thank you.

Just discovered I can patch the LFO into the Ext. in to create a 4th oscillator, and then disconnect Osc 3 control to create two drone oscillators.

I think you are missing the point, the Boog has those as well. This is about calibrating the tracking.

Though its semi modular feautures are great, I was torn in 2 because I longed for a Voyager RME with expansion boxes.Still would love that but they're now rare & expensive! I then opted for the fully modular AJH, which can be as much or more for 1 module as the Berry. At least with that I might buy bit by bit as I can afford. When I realised that there were options on AJH not found elsewhere I gave up on the Berry. HOWEVER!---- I just looked on modular grid & it looks like Behringer are planning on a Boogermod expansion euro module. It has 30 sockets, just over twice that of their model D alone. The only slight downer for me is even that still has no CV res in socket, which the AJH does. Mind you its in mock up stage so perhaps if enough of us talk nicely to Uli on gearslutz, he'll see if another socket can be squeezed in, or panel widened a bit?

When we shut of all the audio, (9:04) where do we get the SIN WAVE sound from? In the video you said, "Resonance will self oscillate" what does that mean? Thank you.
It means the sine wave is coming from the filter, not the oscillator
