      then it would need a patch bay several times the size. polyphony in modular is expensive both in space and cost, you'll need separate cv ins and outs for literally every voice's envelope and filter. also what use would patch memory be on a modular synth where the physical connections would need to also be recalled?

    • @Sound.b581
      @Sound.b581 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@SomeOne-pd6vm That is true if you add the patch bay to the patch saving procedure.

      @Magnus_Loov หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Sound.b581 There is a reason why the Arturia Polybrute is so expensive.
      Doing all these things with a poly with these extended number of oscillators, envelope generators, LFO:s etc just drive up the cost insanely!
      Arturia isn't the expensive brand, just look at what a similar Moog One costs. I think it would be really hard to drive down the prices to get something similar with a polyphonic matrix-like Proton.

    Nice! This thing along with 4-5 supporting eurorack modules guarantees you a very capable system. Sounds much more stable and beefy than the Neutron for sure. There has never been a better time to get into modular.

      @i-a-i หลายเดือนก่อน

      Which modules would you recommend?

    • @sergoz123
      @sergoz123 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@i-a-i Well this thing does lack a sample and hold which is pretty weird considering the other features but oh well. Definitely a module that has some randomness, maybe a dedicated sample and hold module or something bigger like a Mutable Marbles. Some effects module that you like would be cool. I'd always add a Maths to this, or the Behringer Abacus which is basically a Maths. This will give you more modulation as well as general utilities like slew, attenuverters etc.

    • @morpheoist
      @morpheoist หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@i-a-iBehringer itself has interesting modules in its catalogue, some clones, as has already been said...
      I would definitely also add an effects module like Space efx, an abacus, a sampler module like Chaos and one or two complex oscillator modules like Brains or Victor. Also at Behringer you can find various modules at economical prices which include more LFO, S&H, ADSR and other interesting stuff. little by little an interesting system will emerge, at least to start without spending the entire bank account.😊

    • @PatternRecognitionMusic
      @PatternRecognitionMusic หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@i-a-i I started with a Neutron, picked up a NiftyBundle and quickly started adding modules. If I had to start over, I'd probably stick with the NiftyCase (I got the bundle on sale, but quickly stopped relying on Chipz & Cellz for much) and go with Pamela's Pro Workout as my first module. It's good for all sorts of things, from generative sequencing to Euclidian patterns to modulation to basic clocking and more. Squarp Rample remains as one of my go-to modules, and you can use Pam's to drive it. I use Ochd and its expander paired with Tesseract's Polar8 (three more of my earliest purchases) for extensive modulation, but that might be overkill early on if Neutron and/or Proton were your only euro-compatible synths.

    • @sub-jec-tiv
      @sub-jec-tiv หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Instruo/DivKid Ochd: 8 separate triangle wave LFOs at different rates. Knob with cv control, for frequency of all of them at once. I use it on every single patch i make, it’s great for giving a little life to various parameters.
      In-line attenuvertors: these are little attenuvertors that go between an output and input. Several different kinds out there, much less expensive than buying attenuvertors for your rack (though those can be nice from a usability standpoint of course)
      Some kind of voltage and trig sequencers, preferably multi-channel. I like Steppy, Voltage Block, and Muxlicer for wild ideas (Muxlicer does all kinds of stuff, check out DivKid’s video about it).
      Pitch quantizer of some kind. So useful, for turning voltage into music.
      Will second a Pamela’s module. I set mine up with the expander, various subdivided clocks and synced LFOs, and just leave it like that.

      @PatternRecognitionMusic หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SPL-6 I don't see getting much lower in price for a decent keybed, power supply, rails, etc. NiftyKeyz is 112hp, you're only looking at 32hp extra space, easy to fill with either a blank or a couple of good modules to extend the functionality without adding a crazy amount of bulk.

    Now that there are two synths with the "Moffat" filter out, can we *please* have service manuals, so when these things start going bad we don't have to reverse engineer them to try to work out why? Might work out why it's more prone to oscillation at high frequencies like at 9:23 too, I can't be the only one who ends up notching the top end of Neutron recordings because of how it likes to stick there and ring. Still a great filter.

    • @sergoz123

      Well from what I can see the resonanse is cranked past 1pm which pretty much guarantees oscillation on my Matriarch as well as two of my Eurorack filters.

    • @lunalangton5776
      @lunalangton5776 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@sergoz123 Nah, if you have a Neutron you'll know what I'm talking about. You can set it so it's fairly resonant but not oscillating in mid-range frequencies, and it will oscillate at higher frequencies. On many synths you can observe the resonance is not equal for every frequency, but on the Neutron (and I guess Proton too if it's the same), it's generally more resonant towards higher frequencies. A quirk I'd like to understand. Knob positions aren't gonna be the same between synths.

    But if you take 400 Euro, please include more than just 2 patch cables to a semi modular synth. This is just a bit too stingy otherwise.
