Is Juan Soto's Injury Scare Bad For His Cards?

- Juan Soto recently missed three games against the Los Angeles Dodgers due to forarm tightness. Forearm tightness is the leading indicator to a hurt UCL which can be repaired through Tommy John surgery. This was extremely concerning for baseball card collectors and baseball fans as Soto is having the best year of his career so far. In this video we discuss Juan Soto's baseball cards, Tarik Skubal's baseball cards, and more recent baseball news.
I'm not worried. He started at such a young age that he could miss an entire season recovering from Tommy John and he'd still be ahead of the curve. He is a generational talent.
The early start is huge!
Chris here - as an Acuna fan, staying on the field is HUGE!
@@SpitballinCards Ronald is a beast! I hope he heals up soon and wins MVP next year.

Judge and Yankees fan here. Just wanted to let Chris know that he made a diving catch (maybe a little more of a shoestring) in CF. He’s fine and not injured. I don’t really have too much concern about Soto but to be fair, he hasn’t hit a HR for a few games now. He is still getting hits and walks 2/3 of the time.
Thanks for the update!
Chris here - I hope he stays healthy! Baseball is better when the best players are playing!
His history just makes worry. I wish the Yankees would protect him more.
Thanks for watching!
ZERO panic, ZERO concern. You cannot play at that high of a level and have something torn. Clean MRI, Juan Bonds is fine I mean Barry Soto is fine. I mean Ive bought even more and wont stop!

💪🏼
Chris here - just leave the next shuffle
Auto for me!
I’m not worried about Soto at all. Hitting like 375 since coming back. After missing 3 games. He has played so many games already by his age so I wouldn’t be concerned even if he missed a season. Soto doesn’t seem to put the strain on his body the way he plays the game
Chris here - yeah he doesn’t run like Acuna, so his game should keep him healthy.
He said that his arm issue doesn’t impact any baseball actions so let’s hope that remains the case all summer!
Soto is Golden....
Soto is back!!
Great discussion y’all. Zero empathy for Bonds. Lost himself and his connection with all of us in SF. I still celebrate Bobby Bonilla Day every year tho.
PS I was a child of the 80s Cactus league in Phx
Thanks for watching!
Chris here - you ever check out the Arizona fall league?
@@SpitballinCards nope. Family is still there but I haven’t lived there since ‘96. You?
I really like Soto. I hope he can continue to stay healthy.
We all just want to watch the best players play!
2013 Topps Update is known for the Nolan Arenado RC and the Gerrit Cole RC. Don't forget - a resurging Christian Yelich RC, Braves powerhouse Marcell Ozuna RC, and Zack Wheeler RC are all in there too...
That’s a pretty loaded set!
I wonder if wheeler’s stuff moves at all this year - assuming full health.
Pulled the Skubal SSP back in 2021. Awesome card. Turned me onto Skubal as a potentially great player.
Great pull!
It’s funny how that happens - pull a great card of player one day and you’ll start rooting for that guy haha!
Good calls on Skubal and Wheeler. I’ll also beat the drum for MacKenzie Gore. He’s been making batters look 🤪.
When The Iron Man Ripken retired we all knew there would never be another player who could play that long without a game off. But if modern players fart too many times during a game, and they are on the injured list. It won't be long before a "Hall of Fame" career will simply be a player who can play for 6 years without getting hurt.
Chris here - I hope you’re wrong, but as these athletes push themselves to new limits constantly, injuries just seem more and more common. And more likely to continue.
Bonds is a polarizing figure. As someone who lived in the bay for ten years, you can guess how I feel about him/it. I'm fine with him being left out of the HOF for now. I'll just keep accumulating. Just look at his OPS. That's obscene.
Exactly! Fans of the Giants will live him forever as they should!
He belongs in the Hall - Chris here, IMO - but that’s a convo for another day.
I heard an argument the other day about Bonds that juicing or not in the last couple of seasons he was getting like walked like 4 out every 5 at bats and still put up the insane numbers that he did. Even if he was juicing which let's remember nobody ever produced a positive drug test only the rumor of the cream. The guy was/is an absolute beast with a great eye and for those who point to the fact he was bigger at the end he was also like 20 yrs older and every single one of use as we got older got fatter/bigger. You can't tell me he was that much bigger than Frank " The Tank" Thomas when he was with Oakland and nobody ever questioned him. I honestly think a lot of the hate for Bonds is because of his personality and his relationship or lack there of with the media.
Chris here - the Bonds hate is definitely personality related. He brought it on himself. Sure he was on stuff, but most of the all stars of the time probably were too.
As far as Frank Thomas - remember he was one of the most outspoken anti-steroids guys in the league. Take that for what it’s worth.
Thanks for watching!
Love these episodes.

If it wasn’t for Sammy, Mark, and Barry!!! Baseball wouldn’t have been fun at the turn of the century. It was must watch T.V. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💪🏽💯👌🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Chris here - you’re 100% right!
How much if the league was using? More than 50% for sure. We’ll never know, but “must watch TV” for sure!
Thanks for watching
I think that ops of 1.422 is bonds most impressive stat. No one will ever get close to that again probably ever.
Bonds was on another planet!
Love the Skubal discussion. I’ve been secretly putting a collection together as well. He already had his Tommy John so we’re in the clear. Wait, people can’t get multiple TJ’s, can they?
😂
Chris here - high risk, potentially high reward!
Enjoy collecting him!
Thumbnail foul. Proclaiming TJ is waaaaay too triggering. At least put a question mark after Tommy John.
“Only the stupidest of the stupid are taking stuff right now.” Nice shoutout to Tatis, Chris! Haha.
💯💯💯
Damn right!
everyone was juiced.... that is hard to say -- and puts people like jeter and griffey in a bad box when they should be raised up at least a bit for never testing +
Chris here - “everybody” is a generalization. I was just trying to make sure we acknowledge isn’t wasnt just bonds.
I mean those 2003-4 ALCS matchups were a hell of a lot of guys that probably used some enhancements.
You’re right though, guys like Griffey, Maddux, Jeter, Ichiro shouldnt be lumped in there.
Although if we’re being honest, we can’t be 100% sure none of them took anything. It’s highly unlikely, but we can’t say it for certain.
Thanks for watching.
@@SpitballinCards or McGriff...
Everything is insane with the stats of Bonds but it ALWAYS goes back to the question of how many of those stats are inflated and by how much? Those 2 questions alone will never be answered due to their complexity. I hear 7 MVPs and I am not impressed at all knowing 4 of those are in his PED years, I read somewhere that 97-99% of players DECLINE once they hit their 30s...he "bucked the trend", got beefed up and went on a 4 MVP tear. His card values will never be close to those of Griffey or Frank Thomas IMO.
Chris here - for sure Binds bucked that trend and we all know why. But that was baseball at the time. It was all over the league. We’ll never know how many guys were using PED’s but it was a lot. The league was fine with it.
Look at the MVP winners from that era: Gonzalez, Rodriguez, Caminiti, etc.
and question for you - do you think there’s a guy in the HOF now who used???
Aaron Judge 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😱😎👌💪🏽
The guy is on FIRE!
'no baseball activities bother his forearm'. So what does? Video games? Anything else? 😂😂
Apparently they do not hurt in the moment, but lead to pain and swelling after playing. Thanks for watching, Will!
I think too much time in the weight room is ruining players careers. Randy Arozarena bulked up and is batting .170. Baseball is about being athletic, not bulk. Same goes with pitchers. Some of the best pitchers in the league have a 92 mph fastball. I would rather give Ranger Suarez $200 million than the next 100 mph TJ culprit.
Chris here - there’s definitely something to flexibility over pure strength. The bigger sluggers seem to break down more.
I think you’re onto something regarding the pitchers.
Jackson Holiday now being sat down for a couple weeks. He’s dealing with elbow pain apparently.
Oh man! I hadn’t heard that yet 😔
The window to buy Judge is closing fast, especially if you guys are talking about all the reasons he’s having an incredible season. 211 OPS+ currently, better than 2022. The hype train is about to take off and the FOMO birds are about to start buzzing.
It sure is!
I just don’t know if I’ll ever trust his health…
Nerds who've never played ask "why do you want to be 5% better at risk of injury" have ZERO understanding of the mentality of actual athletes chasing greatness...because they can't.
Chris see - this is 100% correct
Collecting Pitchers because you like them is one thing; collecting Pitchers as an investment is a losing proposition!
Chris here - this describes card collecting as a whole!
Well said!!
lol, you guys have been trained to think worse case scenario. Can't blame you if you have some PTSD from the bloodbath this year. Anyway a lot of these cases are probably low grade muscles strains. THEN tendon issues (flexor or extensor compartments) and THEN ligament issues like the UCL stuff you guys lose sleep over. Also, as an aside, there is something on the mri, there always is. saying 'nothing' is a euphemism for nothing major.
Dude, Chris here and I am absolutely dealing with trauma fallout.
I have slept well since, you know…
Wheeler!!
Chris here - as a braves fan, maybe I should buy some wheeler…
@@SpitballinCards haa just you mentioning Wheeler has put the bad juju on him..3 HR’s in 3 innings to start todays game
Is Tommy John surgery even a big deal anymore?
Per WebMD: 'Between 80% and 95% of professional baseball players can return to play after this procedure.' 'MLB pitchers often show some improvement in performance upon return from Tommy John surgery.'
Chris here - nobody wants to see young players get hurt and miss their prime years.
Sure players can come back from Tommy John surgery, but there are no guarantees.
The best answer is that whatever steroids they use today is making the tendons brittle leading to more performance and also more injuries.
Haha - you do have to wonder…
'He probably would have been diagnosed with leukemia by now.' -quote of the month
😂😂😂
before the steriods ? how do you know when he started ? Bonds should be marked forever along with the rest of them . Including Tatis ! Its not fair to those honest players who did it the right way . Big card gambles come with both good and bad . Collect what you will
I think he started when his head doubled in size
Chris here - problem is we’ll never know 100% for sure who was completely clean and who wasn’t.
Unless we’re taking about the failed test guys - Palmeiro, Cano, Manny, Cruz, etc.
And I truly believe Tatis is just an idiot more than a cheater. But either way, he failed a test so that’s that.
HOF lol
Sotommy videos now? 🤷♂️🫣
10% chance Judge plays full season
Don’t be fooled
Sure thing buddy. We are all certain you've done the math.
More curious about his chances of playing 146-150+
I hope he stays healthy.
His history suggests he won’t. But we’ll have to wait and see.
@@snerdtergusonChris here - judge is fun to watch, no doubt. But 4 of his seasons he’s spent long stints on the IL. And now he’s in his 30’s. I hope he can stay on the field, but if he were my player he’d be in RF at home and DH on the road.
He’s just too important in the lineup.
