Unbeatable motorcycle even today. 213kg wet with almost 90NM at 5800 rpm and consumption 65 mpg at 55 mph. There is no motorcycle on the market that consumption is lower with this dynamic. Rotax engine - masterpiece.
This is a great bike, I got one in November 2016 and love it. I am 5'8'' and it fits like a glove with minimal buffeting at higher speeds. Nimble round town and easy to pul onto centre stand. The heated grips are perfect! Also an easy bike to clean, which is helpful as I ride all year round. I have ridden in through central London and out of town on country lanes and motorways. Rock solid at speed. I makes me smile just riding it!
After several K's and RT's I am collecting my 13 plate 800GT tomorrow and looking forward to it. (down sizing after 50+years of biking.) On the test ride however, I did find that the wind hit me in the chest, so I have ordered a Puig touring screen which by all accounts makes a huge difference. Time will tell. Very nice video by the way
Brilliant bike roads here in South Africa, I love my Beemer brilliant bike for a Sunday ride, biker chaps here love to wave and nod as we go by,,,,I'm still trying to work out if the nod between beemer riders are the same nod when we see a Harley :) lol
The thing I like about riding on the roads here in America is when we pass other motorcyclist going in the opposite direction, we give each other "the wave." We acknowledge other bikers with a "low hand" wave. Of course, we are waving with our left hand, which is not on the throttle. You Brits would look odd waving to each other since you would have to take your left hand off the bars and give a contortionist wave or you would have to take your hand off the throttle to wave which would be awkward. Good review.
I'm a Yank, I did not know that.... Safer than taking one's left hand off the bars in a reduced radius, downhill, right hand corner when you are going too hot into that corner. Well, maybe we shouldn't wave or nod in that situation, but I have been "waved at" when going around a corner. Not safe in my book.... The guy to this day must think that I was an arse because I did not wave back!!!
Hi I am thinking to get one, currently ridding vfr800 a8, which is heavy and high. I am .5.4 height with inside leg 30 inc. how does she rides in the low seat height
Hi. No maintenance required on the belt. It's obviously checked during annual servicing and if there's any problems will be dealt with under warranty. The belt needs replacing after 24,000 miles. So much less hassle than chain and sprockets!! Vibes wise I wouldn't say there's a huge amount. You can obviously tell you're on a twin, but it is a comfy ride. The fact that I don't really know about any vibes shows its not something I've thought about so probably not many at all.
Steven Busby finally got around to look the other day and in 6th gear the revs are at about 4,000 RPM at 70 mph. It red lines at 9,000 RPM so still plenty of grunt in the engine from 70.
Hi looking at may be getting one but on some of the reviews i seen the stock screen does not do a good job if you are tall. i am 6'3 how tall are you and how do you find the screen
Yes in fact I think they're standard on the F800 or if not they're an option to have. I've always liked BMW heated grips as they're well integrated into the switchgear and very good quality.
It is really painfully apparent that you have never ridden one or else you mistakenly think it is a 1600. This motorcycle has pleanty of meat. It will get you out of danger quickly.

Just picked up a 2017 model down here in AUS - great all-rounder and lots of fun on the twisty roads.

Love this bike.I had 2 BMW's with same Rotax engine: 2013 700 GS and 800 GSA.I am thinking of gettong a 2019 GT with 22000 kms

That was really useful, thanks, I've been seriously considering buying one.

We nod our head when passing another bike.

Yip I'm a nodder to especially useful if cornering at time of passing🖒
ah a drive past barrow tanks haven't done that for a while, glad to see your enjoying it!! stay safe
Thank you !
I've heard the screen doesn't protect you from the wind very much. Is that true? Thanks
+ArcanePath360 I found it provided a decent amount of protection. On the motorway you can always tuck down a little.
Ta for sharing.
Will be purchasing one in the next few days.
Did you get the 'comfort seat' option?
Are all of the lights LEDs?
Cheerio from LA.
Joseph Haley no don't think i've got the comfort seat. Indicators are LED, but no the headlight.
how much for new belt in UK when needed at 24k miles?
how many miles done on her at the moment? any issues, callbacks?
Vstm don't know how much a new belt will be. I didn't ask as I don't plan to have the bike when it's done 24K miles!

In general how reliable are these? Any known weaknesses?
Very nice review and an awesome bike. Do you think it would be a suitable choice for a new/beginner rider?
+ST0RMBRINGR no i don't think so. It's quite heavy for the size of the bike. Look at a Ducati Scrambler for a good beginner bike.
2 Questions Sir, what maintenance do you have to do on the belt and are you getting any vibes from the twin? Nice bike though, RSM8

Enjoy your video what is average mpg and have you had any issues with the belt drive.thank you
Clyde H didn't have it that long so can't say I'm afraid
And now? :)
Thanks for the review. What are your rpms at highway speeds (70-75 mph)?

michael pearce can't say I've noticed any problems with it. Mind you it's the first bike with a screen I've had so it's better than on a naked bike!
What deal did you get on it
Louise Clarke a good one.
Would you recommend this bike for a new rider?
I know this is out of date but yes. It's ok as a first bike. I've done about 6000mi on my F800GT at my first season
nice video, thumps up - but in my impression, the sound of the bmw twin seams to be poor..? Better with an aftermarket exhaust..?
Toni R Yeah I agree with you on the sound. It's something I've looked into, but the cost of a new can is huge!
How tall are you re the fairing and wind resistance?
5'11"
How do you find the wind resistance etc? Doe sit go over the helmet or hit you where?
TheSpainy from what I remember there was a bit of wind resistance but nothing major.
are the handgrips heathable? Thanks
Yes in fact I think they're standard on the F800 or if not they're an option to have. I've always liked BMW heated grips as they're well integrated into the switchgear and very good quality.
What about the wind on the legs ( sorry for ny english) it blows hard?
Doesn't look like it could pull you out of bed? You need to be able to overtake safely
