I have the 40 years 2021 and they gave it a improvement in manu aspects. The headlights now in LED ( awesome look and illumination btw ), and all the issues from the old version were fixed since 2021 model. I’m in love by this bike because it can be used for commuting, short traveling and to take a soft dirty road eventually. It’s a perfect option for those who aren’t searching for high performance but for a all use bike. And comfort is its surname 🥰👍🏼
Sir, I've been following you since the Inazuma. Your accurate comments helped me decide to buy the Suzuki. Now I'm interested in this BMW, and I'm here. Great job.
Very good bike , I owned this in 2019 , now bought yamaha R1 , 1000 cc bike . In my opinion bmw 300 is best in its class. I never had any problem ... I recommend this bike
Very accurate review, man. I've had mine for almost two years...have only put 1,400 miles on it. I haven't had electrical issues, but if I go three weeks without starting it the bike fights me to start (same thing with my dirt bikes though). I'm sick of recalls, and wish it had more power. I love it in the canyons, but on our higher speed, wide open roads (Utah, USA), it's a bit buzzy and works the engine too much to maintain 80mph. All this being saud I love riding it, I love the looks of it, it carries me and my wife just fine. I'm considering something different now too, though. I still really enjoy the quirky thing, though. Anyway, all the best man...
Morning. Quick comment. Mine has a 3 gallon tank, not sure if they sell them with different size tanks in the UK. Also get 65 to 70 miles per gallon, translating to around 185 to 200miles per tank depending on city or open road riding. Have yet to experience any electrical problems but have only done around 3000 miles so hopefully with more mileage I don't encounter any hassles. Cheers
I have a 2021, I must have a larger tank I guess. I'm getting around 65-70 mpg, roughly 200+ miles per tank. No vibration in anything except I do have the play in the levers, and the stand is a bit too long making it park very upright. I'm planning on striping it down and modding it quite a bit with aftermarket parts. I think the weight to power ratio is perfect if you're taking it off-road a lot and solo. Very capable bike both on street and off. You can check my channel for my US experience with it.
Great review and spot on in my opinion. At the 1 year mark on mine, to the day, both the alternator and battery failed. Both replaced under warranty. I am keen to see how this effects the reliability. If mine was off the charger for more than three days it wouldn't start. If that has been resolved, I"ll most likely keep it. I did chop about 12mm off the side stand and it went from 7 degree lean to 13 - much better. I've just put a centre stand on to make it more practical for chain cleaning, etc. I'm still waiting to get the brake recall sorted 6 months later. Apparently they have new parts for that coming. The side stand passed that recall but frankly it freaks me out that it could literally snap a bit out of the frame. However, I do love riding it and overall would love to keep it. I have recently been tempted by the F750GS mind you. Problem is, I own the G310GS and would need to take on a bit of debt to step up. Not sure it's worth it. Hopefully all the issues have been resolved on my bike now but if it fails me again I think I might just let it go, despite the fun...
I had a similar problem with my Honda deauville ok mine is an old bike but I replaced the battery and it’s been fine I can leave it for weeks and will start at the touch of a button
Have you tried connecting a multimeter to the batter to check it's charge while it's running? If it's around 13V idle and 14 or do at ~5000rpm then it's charging system should be alright which means there's probably a parasitic draw (something using power while the engine is off) if that's the case temporarily you could disconnect the negative cable while parked up on long trips or get one of those power bank jump starters.
yeah could check it out. BMW suggested something was drawing from the battery, but there's nothing. I wouldn't expect it from a 1.5 year old bike though.
@@Pen15UK Yeah TBH I only had a headlight condensation issue with my Suzuki Inazuma from new and occasionally the neutral light doesn't work but it's 6 years old now, super reliable
Would it be possible to pan the camera over the entire bike ? seems the tank mirrors and fairing were the priorities, if you're unable to give a description of the engine and drive train, a good look at it would be great hey, less moaning about the costs etc
I found out on cold starting to put about a quarter of inch of throttle on it starts a lot better.the headlight is a nightmare with vibration every time I get a recall im hoping its for the head light but no up to now its been for brake callipers and the stand everything else I find very good for the price just one question what electrical extras have you put on the bike because bmw don't like you tampering with the electrics. just a thought this isn't your battery drain problem
No way should you have to put it on charge every night. I would demand BMW fix it and not leave until they have. I should have a test ride on one soon. Hopefully all the issues have been fixed now, 3 years later. Ride safe, mate.
Hi @Pen15UK loved your review, I was considering buying this, but since I've had a test drive of KTM Adventure 390, I just can't go back to the little GS, do give it a try, if it's available there.
@@Pen15UK yeah same for a lot of people still atm, a bit of a shame if they are not getting ridden. I've been flipping a coin between this and the ktm 390 adventure but am leaning towards the bm as most don't have much bad to say about them and i don't trust ktm reliability.
Hi Pen15, like you I have a G310 GS and have been underwhelmed with the quality and the dealership. I must live near to you as i recognise all the routes I have watched on your videos around North Bristol. The battery/starting issue can be sorted with a battery upgrade for around £30 but BMW in their arrogance will never admit they got it wrong. If you want to make contact with me and maybe go for a ride as I know some great twisty routes locally please email me. Cheers Ken
Do you think it’s better to get a Honda CB500X over this? I had a 2021 version of this bike on pre order earlier and they changed some engine tech and it’s EFI based. But after your review I don’t know if I can rely on my order. I live in Canada and it takes a minimum of an hour to get anywhere.
The 2021 has refined most of the little issues... supposedly. I’m considering the 2021 G310 GS vs the 2021 KTM 390 ADVENTURE. The test ride shall determine it for me.
Quite a difference. Aside from the slight increase in power, I was seated much higher on the GS. I'd describe it as sitting on the GS rather than in the Inazuma. The CG on the GS was well bellow me so was a very different bike to ride. Given the choice I'd go with the Inazuma if power isn't the deciding factor.
@@Pen15UK thanks for the answer mate. I think the power will not be such a issue as i will not ride it on a highway daily. May be 250ccwill be not that bad at all . Keep posting videos we will watch 😊
EloyxH3R0x Hi, I have on my second 310 GS and am absolutely thrilled. Being in Northern Ireland and the type of roads it is perfect. Had no issues yet and can not justify a bigger heavier machine. I have had them all and they are amazing. This light and nimble and quite adequate for its purpose. Excellent commuter and very economical at 70-83 mpg.

Thanks. I really do like the lower CC bikes, they give a different kind of joy when riding them.
So add a nylon washer to the clutch lever and a bit of two sided tape between the headlight and housing and upgrade the battery then it all goes away

I’ve ridden the F750gs with all the toys on it and loved it. A very nice bike indeed. I’ve done a video on it if you want to check it out.

You're spot on LOL I've seen the alternators replaced on this bike a lot. Also starter sprag takes em out too.

Sounds like you have a Parasitic Drain in your electric system, pretty easy to test, look her up. Great video, thanks
Thanks for the tip!
That electrical system clearly is not correct. Do not let you fob you off. Employ an auto electrician , figure out what’s wrong and get back to BMW.

Techno UT will see if I can get a go on one. Trouble is getting a test ride as the local dealer is a bit useless.
Good video:) Did you hand it back in the end? What did you buy this replace it? Thanks
Thanks. I haven’t replaced it with anything. It was used mainly for commuting, but I haven’t been doing that since 2019 so it just sat there.

Check it yourself for parasitic drain. its easy enough to do.
If it wasn't so lacking information about the actual bike would be terrific 😊
Watch the review for that. This is the long term ownership review
If you can’t put it into words, then why bother talking about it? I think it’s one of the worlds best all rounders! For the money.
So you think it’s a good bike to have for 4-6 years? It would be my first bike and I want something reliable. Great video 🎉
Yeah you’ll be fine with it. Bear in mind the warranty would expire after 3 years though.
