Seth, I’ve been watching these videos for a while now. I believe that your enthusiasm and kindness are genuine. Thank you so much for what you’re doing. You may not realize it, but you are setting a wonderful example of how positivity and going all in on something that you love can make an enormous impact on one’s personal growth. Keep up the great work. Cheers !
I miss New York. It might not be the best biking city but it's a fantastic walking city. Even if you've lives there for many years, you will see something new every day.
Dang, you guys were shredding! This makes me excited to ride there someday. Also, the 5 Boro Bike Tour doesn't just set up some barriers. They block off major highways and bridges, meaning you get to ride places that would normal be highly illegal and dangerous to ride on. It's definitely worth checking out.
As someone who moved from NJ to Upstate SC this hits really near and dear to my heart! Loved going to yankee games in the bronx, seeing my family in Long island, and going to church in Manhattan. Excited to see where you go on your next city adventure!
Seth comes to NYC and doesn't even let us know he's coming?! The outrage. Awesome vid. You gotta start organizing group rides when you visit these places.
Love to see you visiting my neck of the woods. 49 yrs young now. I lived in NYC all my life and always had a bike by my side. When my friends and i were younger, we basically did all five boros 5 days a week. It's been a while since I rode my bike, which needs some maintenance hasn't been touched in over a year. I saw you go through some iconic places. I know you didn't have much time, but you missed great places like riverside , Van cortlandt bike trail trough yonkers, Riverdale and also Further Up , East River Drive ... the ride to Orchard Beach and City Island is wonderful. And a lot more areas. But thanks for coming out here. This city is hectic to ride, but you won't experience anything like it anywhere else
Having lived and biked in 3 of the boroughs for all of the time I was there. This video is truly it. Thank you Seth for this lovely series that helps people like me decide where to move back!
I’m on vacation in the keys and I just rented a boat today for my birthday, but there is so much fog we cannot go out. Very glad to see another new video gonna go out and rent a bicycle to use here.
i am enjoying your city biking series immensely as a city biker (I call it urban XC), urban planner, and infrastructure program manager. I think that I would love to hear about what you enjoyed the most (and least) about and while biking each of the cities. The bike theft is the thing that worries me the most (even in my own city)....how can you truly enjoy a new city by bike if you can't leave it locked somewhere for very long? I also have a hard time fitting on a rented or city bike, which also diminishes the experiences. Overall, great series!
Hey Seth, love seeing these videos, as someone who currently lives in New York, and avidly bikes throughout the boroughs this video is almost nostalgic! Really Wish we crossed paths during your trip! Stay safe out there!!
I actually hit that exact roller this past summer on my Full suspension. Central park has alott of hidden MTB gems if you just explore. Even found a 15 foot roller. I had to pick someone up at JFK that day so i figured id spend the day riding around NYC just like you did, tbh it was allot of fun.
Seth, great video !!!! I was born in the Bronx and lived there for many years. Now I live 50 miles north of Little Rock on 5 acres of rock. Do I miss NYC? Not a chance !!! :) Thanks for this !!!
Equal parts agree and disagree. The content would be cool, but they are different dudes with different riding styles and different vibes. Seth does a lot of physically dangerous stuff, but with a wife and a kid and a French bulldog to look after, Seth doesn’t strike me as someone who would ride a fixed gear at 30 mph through Manhattan.
We spent a week in NYC and I can't imagine trying to own or use a car there either. Some things, like getting groceries, would require a change from how we do in central Texas 'burbs but bike and metro gives you all 5 boroughs with ease. I'm always a bit jealous of the functional and supported public transportation & bike-ability in other parts of the world. On the upside; San Antonio's green way is great and even offers dozens of miles of XC trails.
The 5 Borough Bike Tour is awesome! I flew from California, rented a bike and was not disappointed. 23,000 (yes, 23 thousand!) did the ride with me and that includes going over the Verrazano bridge. It's a great story and you should do it sometime.
I grew up in Metro NY. Loved watching you ride through the city. I've road a bike in three of the boros. Missed out on the Bronx and Staten. There is always a wind.
Thanks for posting this. 🙏🏻☺️ I commuted by bike in NYC for many years and that truly saved my sanity. 😅 Now in retirement, I prefer our parks and quieter areas for my daily cycling. 🚴🏻♂️☺️
I was in NYC in 2013 with my mum and we rented bikes as well. Back then I wasn't cycling at home at all so it was pretty much a crackpot idea... 🤐 We stayed in Long Island City close to Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge, cycled over it, went up to 97th-ish street, crossed over to Central Park, went down to Columbus Circle, then towards the Hudson River, all the way down to Battery Park and close to the East River back to the Queensboro Bridge. All in all about 35 km (21 miles in weird measurement 😜), but we were there in late April so we had a good amount of daylight and we weren't in a hurry to get to places. Apart from the part at the Hudson River there were pretty much no bike lanes so it's good to see protected-ish bike lanes, even though two-way lanes on only one side of one-way streets don't make sense to me.
Transportation Alternatives is reviving their NYC Century next September, it's worth coming back for! It's a ride on open streets, and hits most of the big bike paths here.
Hope you come back to Florida for an episode of Unbikeable!! I mainly do urban riding and bike commute, but your channel was what got me into mountain biking in 2019. Cycling's made me a lot of friends through the years
As someone who grew up in the Bronx, all my life, I was hype to see you mention I was hoping for a little bit more riding in there but Next time you go up, you should ride from Manhattan over to the Bronx then you can cross over to Randall’s Island and take the bridge over to Queens. The road to hell is paved with good intentions! Seth, you are truly a mensch. Thank you for gracing NYC with one of your awesome ride videos. Furthermore, thank you for donating that camera to someone who paid attention to your videos. After seeing that your video had been posted 2 hours ago, I rushed over to the precise spot where you had hidden the camera. I grew up in this neighborhood and that spot was immediately recognizable to me. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Miguel, a professional chef on a sweet burgundy Trek road bike who had been scouring the area. I quickly realized as we frantically beat around the bushes that leaves had been on the bushes when the video was shot, now the bushes were barren, and the ground was much drier in the video than it was when I arrived; so the video must have been shot at least a week or more ago. Then I got a NY gift on the bottom side of my right cycling shoe from one of the many inconsiderate NYC dog owners; and this was a large, very tacky gift that overflowed out either side of my entire heel! I recognized the root that was featured behind the hole and saw that much more leaves had fallen on top of the rat hole the camera had been placed inside of. Either someone had dug another hole next to the original rat hole, or the rats had long since eaten the camera. Either way, Miguel and I had missed the camera, but others had been there and uncovered all the leaves from the hiding spot. Thank you Seth for all the great content and for your generous giveaways. Unfortunately in this case I was left holding the sh*t end of the stick. Keep the rubber side down y'all.
