I toured on mine two up , 86,000klm , no problem , i am 5'9" 76 kilo . I had to put bar risers on for my short limbs , sublime in the corners with about 88 horsepower. PS the belt lasted 80 000klm
I am a bloodbike rider. We have one of these bikes in our fleet. I absolutely love it. Yer man said it's not a coast to coast bike. I disagree. I travel through Europe every year on my vfr 800 vtec but I would have no hesitation riding the f800 gt through Europe. It's a fantastic bike. I'm even considering changing my vfr for the f800gt. Yeah and the screen is not adjustable🙄
I bought a used 2013 model as my first bike. I bought it mainly because I completely fell for the looks of it. Having had it now for nearing a year I must say that I absolutely love it. Easy to handle for a beginner and plenty of power so far. My only worry is that I should have gone for a dual sport instead. Time will tell.
It's interesting to me that the rider of this rides the Suzuki DL650 V-Strom normally. I do, too , and am thinking about something without chain drive. I thought about this, and was hoping for some comparison. I have read about, and watched videos about the F800 series and apparently the reliability is not what you'd normally get from a BMW. I certainly would not want to trade a fantastic 2012 V-Strom for something that looks, but is not, reliable.
+Mickey Bitsko Do you know if there's an aftermarket one that can stop you getting wind full in the face like they say? I ask because that is the one thing putting me off buying.
+ArcanePath360 Madstad. They're ugly until you ride behind one. Then the're the most beautiful things in the world. Madstad makes the ONLY screen that actually does what they say it does.
He didn't quite come out and say it but apparently he believes the knee angle is too extreme for long term comfort. Combined with a windshield that isn't effective and you have to ask why anyone would want this for a touring bike.
I was looking at the honda vfr800 and the dealer suggested this bike (not in stock at the time) but they included the bmw panniers at no extra cost. From comments here I feel the vfr might be the better choice (although both are dull to look at imho)... might just get the kawa 1000sx
Yes it does heat your legs, but that is a boon in the winter, and easily overcome in the summer by opening your leg posture slightly, so it's not a problem.
Dario Pensabene hey Dario I always wear padded leather trousers when on the bike and the heat is never a problem. On the very rare occasion I wear kevlar jeans then I do feel the engine heat more. Ordinary jeans give minimum protection in the event of a fall!
a couple of things need be corrected. first of all this bike is not a sport bike it is a sport touring bike and it leans more towards touring then sport. the K1300s is bmw's sport touring bike that is more of a sport bike and after this year they plan not to produce it anymore. The f800gt will not keep up with an r6 or any other 3 or 4 cylinder sport bike is isn't want it was intended for. unless its some kind of aftermarket wind screen, the wind screen is not adjustable and neither is the seat. this bike doesn't like to be push hard for very long so riding it like a sport bike probably isn't a good idea. the price of the f800gt has gone up to just under 14g (13990) where I live and the f800r is about 10825 with no power upgrades since 2013, at 14,000 dollars the f800gt is over priced, the f800r isn't priced to far out of range but still is a little high for what the bike is.

As an owner of a gt for a year now I would comment that this review is pretty spot on the money. Great bike, but you will need an aftermarket screen.

The windscreen is "adjustable." You can throw it away and put an aftermarket one on there.
Other than that, there is no adjustment possible.

The VFR was the only choice. It's legendary for a reason.
Ha, love mine but you ain't "chasing R6s around", good on fast sweepers but awful at quick changes of direction

Chris Green, of course it is adjustable. Just sit up higher or crouch down lower. See? Adjustable. I get your point!

rontheretiredone I know, but if you use the bike to go working you can't always use leather or Kevlar garment!
Yes it does get hot and can be annoying.. have done a review on same problem. Fix that and drop pegs a bit and it is awesome

Coming from a dl 650, for him it feels sporty. I bet he never rode an R6 or any sport bike.
