    One more - I remember seeing another gun tuber had an issue with a fiber optic sight on the front. He said later, in a follow up, the fiber optic wasn't melted right and it was moving with each shot. He pulled the fiber out and replaced it and that fixed the problem.

XDM 10mm...I am on the fence right now and about to make a purchase of one or the other of these two guns...I am leaning toward the 4.5 in. as it will be used primarily for bear defense but the accuracy issue has me concerned...I don't like the short grip on the 3.8 in. but I guess you can get and extended magazine that will help out with that problem but I don't like the inaccuracy of the 4.5 in. if that is in fact the case...I would appreciate your input...tia...

    Sigh ... It's always frustrating when you save up the money, are excited with your purchase and immediately have to send something back for repair. I have had to do this with several firearms across several brands. The return repair description is always vague. Not surprisingly, I have not kept any of them after return.
    Call them and send it back. I'm curious to see their answer regarding the included test target showing high & right. It's not a hand grenade, it's supposed to be a match grade barrel.

    Wow! Just saw this review. About 18 months ago I bought the XDM 10mm 5.25”. Took it to the range and couldn’t believe how bad my groups were. I thought it must be me, so I asked another experienced shooter at the range to test my gun for accuracy. His groups were just as bad. Called Springfield and their customer service agreed to send a shipping label to return the gun for inspection. After a short turn around, Springfield returned my gun with a test target with a good group that they said was shot with my gun. They said no repairs were needed. Even though I own and shoot reasonably well a couple of 10mm 1911s,a Glock 20, and now a Sig 220, I still cannot make that Springfield group worth a damn. Not sure what is going on. I will say Springfield’s customer service was very responsive. When they sent me my gun back with the good test target, I just figured it was me. Now I’m not so sure. Guess I need to take it out of the safe and let a few other people try it to see.

    • @theturkeysopinion
      @theturkeysopinion  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh wow.....thats kinda shaky. 🤔
      I would be all over them after making sure. I have doubted myself sometimes. But when you know you shoot decently and all of a sudden you don't something is wrong. If confirmed by more than a couple of people you know you can trust your gut.
      I personally have no patience for these shenanigans. It's really important that defensive tools work properly. Part of that is accuracy. We are responsible for every bullet that leaves our barrel.
      👍👊🦃

      Did they explain what ammo they used? Sounds like that might be the only variable

    • @2ndtonone1000
      @2ndtonone1000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It might be the ammo being used. You should have asked Springfield what ammo they used to get that group and try it with the ammo they used. Ammo makes a big difference, cheap ammo or bad ammo is the only thing that can get you groups like that. Case and point, the Underwood Sig 357 with 65 grain bullets rated at 2200 FPS are off target just like in this video, but the Underwood Sig 357 in 125 grain was way more accurate and looked like the groups that were shot with the 3.8 10mm XD elite in this video. So, it might be the ammo if anything, but I can honestly say when I switched to the Spear Gold Dot Sig 357 it was dead on accurate and thats what I run, that or Buffalo Bore.

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket ปีที่แล้ว

      Seems like if you want an XDm Elite, go with the 3.8" barrel. If you want a higher velocity hunting-length barrel, go with a long-slide 1911 and deal with a reduced capacity.

And I started off with the Underwood 205 grain hard cast 50 rounds of that. 50 rounds of 220 Federal hardcast. I hate the rear sight but oh my goodness is that damn thing accurate no issues I hope it continues. Stole your idea and got the two 15 round magazines. Game changer

    I have a 4.5 inch that was made a few years ago and I’ll have to see what mine does on the range. The reason I wanted the longer barrel was for better ballistics. I want as much punch as I can get and frankly, the sights or long range accuracy are not that much concern to me. This is a home defense weapon for inside my home so it will be point and shoot at 10’ or less. I want something that with each round sent there will be one clown down.

    My dad's Ruger American 450 Bushy shoots 2" @ 100yds the typical Hornady ammo. To him, that's terrible. :) Mine will shoot 3/4". My first glock shot 4" group 4" left @ 7 yds. That was with S&B. Switched to a different ammo and it was shooting fine out to 20 yds. Just because one load shoots good in one gun doesn't mean it will shoot good in another. I would move 1/2 the distance from the target fire another group. Then put an optic on and repeat both distances to see if it is the iron sight dot/U or if it is still bad with either. There is an outside chance these don't like the powders and bullet combos that we find accurate in other pistols. So possibly try another powder? I have never seen a xd, xdm, or an xds that was not accurate with the some type of mainstream ammo. Even the little xds 3.3s are scary accurate for what the are

    Who knows certain guns like certain ammo others don’t. If you have some other ammo try a few to see if it groups better. Sights do appear off though. Don’t see the benefit of the 4.5 over the 3.8 otherwise. Not a real advantage with just over 1/2 inch increase in barrel length. Would also be interesting if SA would make it better or just say it shoots within acceptable tolerance. Good luck.

    potential issue with both those guns is the gaping hole in the back . Every gun has it purpose i suppose , but those id be wary of what you use it for , i own the 4.5 as it fits my hands better. There are better options out there for everyday carry i feel. I'd be concerned of crap falling in that gap and it failing when you need it most. I just shoot my basically for enjoyment and seem to have had better luck than you. I have carried it hiking , but am careful where i put it , to keep it fairly clean from debris. My backup is a fire extinguisher sized can of bear mace.
    I've also seen a couple of videos where the red dot hex dragonfly optic has flown off and clocked the shooter. Factory or op error ? Who knows. Hey keep up the videos , nice work !!

    I say, send it back to make sure they do right by you but yeah you’re probably correct on the b.s. they’re gonna spew at you. Send it, make sure it’s all good, then sell/trade it. I believe these companies are too quick to jump in on the 10mm market almost the way they did when the .40 came out. Many just swapped out a barrel and mags from their 9’s and had issues. Others who made dedicated .40’s had little to no issues. Right now, S&W are having problems with their 10’s and Sig just intro’d their 320 in 10mm, let’s see how that works out. Dump it, get a 19X (best GLOCK ever, imo), G45, 17, 19.
    I don’t hate SA, I do hate lemons, except for lemonade!
    Enjoyed the video.

    Anyone else think it's kind of crazy to do an accuracy review based on a single 5 round group? You could have shot a few groups to confirm you're on, could have tried different types of ammo in case that's a load the gun doesn't happen to like. A sample size of one just isn't enough info.

  • @anubis8680
    @anubis8680 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So I picked up my 3.8"elite osp, and as much as I love its form factor, just a hair too short on the grip. Like, .2" to .3" taller would be perfect! I was like huh if only it was like the grip on my 4.5" xdm 10mm.... 🤔
    So experiment with caution.... but I found out that my 3.8" upper assembly slide, barrel and recoil spring fit just fine on my 4.5" frame. Now I got 15+1 and its only about .5" taller. YMMV and IANAL and proceed with caution danger ahead 🤪

      I'm sure either one would be a great choice. Its a super accurate pistol. I personally think the 10mm is a great option but ammo availability is a big deal. If you can get a hold of ten by far I would say ten. Unless you plan on doing a lot of shooting then nine millimeter would be much more cost effective👊🦃👍

  • @davidg.9942
    @davidg.9942 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have been watching you like religion since you started the 10mm saga, your shooting skills are exceptional, tactics are well planned and ammo is precisely choosen, so any conspiracy that you possibly wanted to favour one gun over the other in my book is out the door. It looks like SA rushed out the development of full size due to S&W being there and Sig Sauer coming out,,,I kind of see that you feel betrayed by the SA full size, especially when you wanted it to love it like your 3.8....how about P320 X Ten lol ???

    Change the ammo dude. Not all guns even the same brand and model shoot all ammo well. Just how it goes. I will assure you I can put 5 in that second circle without the rest in almost any pistol you have. You just need to know what ammo the weapon shoots well and where POI is vs POA. You need to under the term accuracy sir.

  • @exothermal.sprocket
    @exothermal.sprocket ปีที่แล้ว

    The idea that a 25yd zero vs. a 15yd zero vs a 35 or 40yd zero would make a hill-o-beans difference with 10mm at these ranges is kind of laughable. If you're running 1200 fps ammo from a 4.5 barrel, you're not throwing a rainbow arc under 30+ yards. Maybe start talking about rainbow arc when you're shooting at 75 to 100 yards from this caliber.
    Something is serious screwed up with that barrel.

    That’s a big disappointment. XDm’s are usually fairly accurate pistols. I knew Springfield would come out with the XDm Elite in 10mm but didn’t think they would take this long. I had high hopes for it but that definitely does not meet expectations in my opinion. Have to see if this is unique to yours or not. Good info either way. Thanks for moving quick on this.
