I have the XDM Elite 4.5 10mm I put talon sandpaper grips on it. I carry it in a chest holster when I ride my horse in the mountains. I shoot Underwood 220 gr. hardcast and it works great. I really enjoy this pistol.
I decided to give springfield a try and got a 4.5 xdm elite 10mm. I have over 500 rounds through it now, factory ammo and reloads. It has been absolutely reliable, and more accurate than any semi auto I've ever shot. From a sandbag it will hit a 10 inch gong consistently from 100 yards, with an occasional miss. I use an rmr sight for hunting at night. I got a big 200+ pound boar hog with it from about 40 yards. 10mm seems to have plenty power.
I had a range session with my new XDM 10MM 4.5 just yesterday and it was once again flawless. I’ve run around 500 rounds through it with 0 malfuntions, without cleaning it.
My department has had tons of issues with Glock, being 9mm 40 45 357 sig or even 10’mm with the mag releases, rapid fire we have had multiple people accidentally have the mag half loaded fall out, I brought my XDM and everyone fired about 200 rounds out of it in a group of 12 people, we didn’t have a single jam, no magazines accidentally fall out due to hitting the mag release while rapid firing. Super solid gun. I have over 10 Glocks but the XDM for 10MM is best for me.
I've only seen the magazines fall out of glock's from people pressing the magazine release with their support hand. Happened to me once shooting a drill

You need not worry about bumping the mag release when drawing on the springfield. The mag release spring is pretty stout in their pistol line. Ive had horrible issues with glock mag releases being im a lefty but never springfield pistols.
Red Barron, Stay away from hot bear loads w the gen 4 to prevent case blowouts. Been lots of thoes. Gotta replace the stock Glock bbl & preferably go to a 22-24 lb, stainless core recoil spring if you want reliability. The KKM rifled bbls seem to be the best.
@@tristantimothy1004in my experience increasing the recoil spring weight is much more important than changing the barrel; the real issue is it coming out of battery prematurely.
The XD-M in the desert tan color is SO nice looking!!! Even though I don’t like the grip safety either, I think that even that color contrast looks cool too (tan grip and black grip safety).
Living in Alaska & betting my life on one pistol while I am out fishing or hunting, it has always been the Glock 20 gen4. As a sidenote, just around the property and In the rural areas. I carry a Glock 29 gen4, both pistols have KKM barrels. EDC in Wasilla/Anchorage it’s a SIG 365X. Just my carry & opinion.
i had a glock 20 gen 4 and i loved it, but i got the springfield XDM Elite 10mm because of the fully supported chamber. i prefer shooting the glock because i shoot it better and its more comfortable to shoot, but the XDM Elite wont blow up.
I have both, but the XDM has had firing pin drag on the primers, which I would attribute to coming out of battery prematurely indicating not enough recoil spring pressure. I have seen no evidence of this my G20 gen5 with the same ammo.(Underwood 155xtps)
When it comes to the glock 19/17 style guns. I'm more affected by the grip angle than with the Glock 20. With the 20, I can put on the 2nd largest grip backstrap, and my grip angle is 100% corrected. It feels like a 1911. With the 17/19 models, not so much. So I bought a walther PDP that seems to be the most natural feeling polymer pistol I've shot to date in terms of grip angle & handfit. As well as point ability.
I also don’t like Springfield. That being said, my favorite carry gun is the hellcat pro. My wife has the original hellcat. Both have been 100% reliable. I am now considering the XDM Elite 10mm. I have always been a Glock guy (I have 6 including the g20), but I wouldn’t mind adding that to the XD 10 to the arsenal.

Any information to help me same time and money would be appreciated sir
It saddens me that SA discontinued the XDM line, really solid pistols. I have 2 a compact and a full size both OSP versions. Very nice reliable guns. I have a m&p 10mm but been eyeing the XDM 10mm for some time. I’ll get next time if I find one.
XMD Springfield is by far the best as far as out of the box performace. My S & W 2.0 has been running flawlessly but had to buy aftermarket 24lb recoil spring from wolf and extra strength mag springs from precision springs; for the price the XMD is the better choice.
Love the XD, I think people should keep in mind that with any fire arm all the way down to high pressure air rifles? Ammo is key. Certain guns like Certain ammo more than other ammo. That's key! Great review.
Get the XDM-E. It's new style trigger is awesome. The ergonomics makes it a natural point shooter too. In a bear attack you won't have TIME to aim. So having a red dot is kinda counterproductive. Ones response time in a close attack is 1-3 seconds IF you're lucky on a fast moving target bouncing all over the place.
Both are great guns. I personally went with the Springfield cause it feels better, however I’ve owned glocks and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend either one
Xdm Elite are 16 round mags. The indicator on back of mag only goes to 15 but as SA backs, they are 16 round. In fact as others have said, my mags hold 17 although I have yet to try this with my gun to see if it functions flawless with 17. No need for aftermarket barrel on SA. Only thing needed is griptape. I like Glocks but in 10mm I would go SA.
If you plan to shoot full power loads (esp heavy hardcast) you really have to change the barrel. I have personally experienced the factory barrel causing brand new cases to split. There are a lot more 10mm pistols on the market than when I bought mine and I'd think carefully before spending the money to upgrade a Glock (better barrel, metal guide rod, heavier recoil spring, decent sights, etc).
Glock 20 Gen 5 still having issues with the 200-220gr underwood cherry ammo? Seems like it would be a deal breaker if you cannot reliably shoot heavier ammo. I don’t recall the Springfield having such an issue

I have had nothing but trouble with my gen 5 Glock. It’ll run most range ammo but not one bear load I’ve tried. I’ve ran double tap 200 gr, buffalo bore 220 gr and hsm. It wo t run any of them. I’ve tried tungsten guide rod with 22# and 20# springs. Kkm barrel didn’t run either. Not a suitable bear gun. Do not get one. I’m going to get and xdm elite tomorrow
I owned the g29 and was borrowing the xdm 3.8". So I didn't b see enough advantages to sell my g29 and get a 3.8 xdm. Especially since I can't take the longer magazines of my g40 10mm. For woods carry, I'd get the g40 hands down.
XDM even though I’ve sold 2 XD’s over the years and don’t have the desire to get another one. I would like to see you do a 10mm 1911 vs. XDM comparison. Springfield Ronin vs. XDM would be interesting (I own a 9mm Ronin).
Yup, and it’s time to let bygones be bygones. Get a Springfield for the channel! I worry they are going to move to echelon pattern and I worry it might be a while before they get that right and my guess is they will discontinue the xdm before they get the new echelon 10mm correct. Seems like most gun companies get that change wrong…
I'm a total Springfield or HS produkt fanboy. I've got multiple springfields and those are the only guns that I'll buy the echelon is great but I don't like it more than the XDM elites I don't like the way they gave up the grip safety the loaded chamber indicator the cocked striker indicator basically everything that the XDM has I think they heard too many people bitching and moaning about the grip safety which has been prevalent on a 1911 since the beginning of time and try to appease that crowd I'll stick with my XDM s.
My G20 Gen4 can occasionally be weird with hardcast rounds, seems like it depends on the day lol. I don't carry the hardcast in it when im out in the woods anymore, because I don't feel like I can't guarantee its going to feed perfectly every time. What has functioned basically perfectly is the Underwood Xtreme Penetrators, their overall length and shape of projectile just seems to work in my particular G20.
@@AlaskanBallistics thanks, I’ll have to try those out. Not sure if you ever tried out the hardcast rounds made by a small company out of Idaho, “Lost River Ammo Company” the guy makes some really solid stuff and the prices are dirt cheap. I use his .45 Hardcast in my G30 and they feed really well. I believe they ship to AK now. A really good guy overall
Watching your and Chuke's videos I got the glock 20 with kkm then I went down the aftermarket guide rod heavier spring weight, that was a mistake. Horribly unreliable. Went back to stock spring and it is reliable.. Then I got the XDM Elite. Better trigger reliable out of the box
@AlaskanBallistics Glock Store titanium 20#. They wouldn't take it back once I figured out the GR was the issue. (Though technically outside of their policy)
@AlaskanBallistics it was crazy. Higher power stuff, nose up ftf all day long. Especially Buffalo Bore. It was OK, but wouldn't place my life on it, with Underwood hardcast
I absolutely detest the grip on the FN510, but to each their own. Glad you found something that works for you! Godspeed and good hunting to you and yours my friend!
@AlaskanBallistics . True, I do prefer my glock 20. Been thinking about getting the xdm full size my local gun store has a few. 10mm is getting popular here in east Tennessee.
Id take the XD hands down! I have owned an XD and for a polymer gun i actually liked it quite a bit. I despise all things glock. From the first time i shot one to the last. From the goofy grip angle to the repulsive look. But what makes me hate them most is the fan boys. Most of which know little to nothing about firearms and usually can't shoot. The polymer pistols that i prefer over any others are the M&P's. I own a slew of them (although not a 10mm) and theyre all dead reliable, accurate and the ergonomics suit me better than any other that ive shot. I have little doubt that whatever problems S&W are having with the 10mm guns will be resolved and when they are ill have one. Till then, it 1911's, Sig 220 and S&W 1006....
Get an XD, much better than a Glock. Also, there are not as many parts to swap out to make it work the way you would like your pistol to shoot as well. Good luck and stay safe!!! 😉😉😉
Stay away from S&W M&P. Too many fail videos are out there, one on my channel too. Like the Glock you have to switch it springs and guide rod and magazine springs for heavier ammunition
@@AlaskanBallistics Thank you very much. Yes, I see all the noise about them. I trust you. Don't trust all of them per se. Watched your videos last night. I have a G20.4 and a G29.4 so I'll keep looking. I can stretch this out longer, if I need to do that. Honestly, I am trying to wrap my head around what exactly the flaws are with the S&W M&P. Springs are not always flaws, at least in my mind. Take the Garand, best battle rifle on the planet, in my opinion. But, put a 30-06 round in that weapon that isn't rated for that service rifle and it may or may not be reliable. Just me thinking out loud.
@donaldmonroe8503 if you really want the m&p, get the longer barrel performance center. Seems to be less, but not zero issues. Also exact springs and fixed are listed in that video's comment section Thank You
@AlaskanBallistics Yep, but that's the case with any short barreled firearm. They aren't intended for long-range work. The Elite version of the XDM is a great 10mm carry piece; accurate, easy to handle, functions flawlessly. I bought one when they first came out. Does the job for me.
I love my G20 gen 5 it has the Holosun SCS green dot.. that and the G19X are my favorite 2 glocks ever made.. i really prefer the generation after the gen 4 like the 19x and the gen 5's
Chuck, I'm here to speak up for the M&P! I originally bought a 9mm m&p and then put an apex trigger and barrel and a few other goodies. I have probably 3000 rds through that gun and I promise I ve had zero malfunctions -so naturally I went back to the well w when I wanted a 10 I left it bone stock and same story to date; zero malfunctions! Now, I grant you that I have a total of only 600 rds through the 10mm but again, not so much as a bobble I'm not even an s&w fan boy, well until now
My m&p 5" 9mm jammed a lot and had many trigger reset failures. Had to send it back. Have you tried full power loads out of the m&p 10mm? Tons of videos, including mine, showing it jamming. I'll never trust my life to an M&P if I can help it.
@@AlaskanBallistics yup, that's what I was trying to ask you the other night during your live cast - I have never shot the extreme penetrators from Underwood, do they drive thru heavy bone and stay straight like buffalo bore dangerous game bullets do. I have shot a lot of good hogs with BB bullets and the one thing I notice on almost every one is 5hat they don't deflect, they just stay on track regardless of what they hit
Not everyone feels the need to fire the most over charged load they can buy, for minimal additional terminal force. You will always have the highest chance of optimal performance using ammo that specs right in the middle of curve for what the gun was actually engineered for. The majority of issues occur with over loaded (gimmicky hunting ammo from dubious companies) or under loaded ammunition (subsonic gimmick ammo for use with a can). Just use good quality average loads, practice with them, and you will be fine. Don't trust your life to gimmicks.
Hey chuck take it easy on chuke you bully him on video to much its not funny,I would be kinder to him your belittling him is immature .You have great knowledge on fire arms and I like your channel.Don’t throw him under the bus
We do it to each other as a joke. You should see the memes he posts about me. I've said many times that I appreciate him and that he's done a lot for my TH-cam channel, more than anyone else. Besides, I can still outshoot him.
@AlaskanBallistics I own both I started out with glock 20 And have own multiple springfields 10mm. You can't beat a steel frame with Fully supported lock up and In slide rails that run Across the whole frame. It's a much better shooting firearm. The weight of the p220 handles 10mm better . The srt trigger on the p220 legion Is night and day better than polymer 10s . The only argument you can make against it is price and capacity My suggestion to that is, you get what you pay for ,and shoot better.
@AlaskanBallistics I do agree between the glock 20 g5 and the The Springfield xdm, The springfield is undeniably better and every category. On the springfield I can do without the grip safety though . Between my ownership of both of them. I would buy the springfield again Over the glock.
Great video. Personally id take the G20. My hand rolled PF45 in 10mm has been solid except for the aftermarket pos trigger pin that snapped in half, gun still worked though. I replaced it with a factory pin and it’s been perfect since. I shoot Underwood ammo about 90% of the time so the cheap inferior trigger pin wasn’t up for the task. I’ve been shooting Glocks for 25 years. Their simplicity is unmatched. Great video.
XDM lol "grip zone" .. Whats it 1999? It wasn't a good gun then ..just average heavy gun ... In 2024 we see 2011 now 500$ in 10 mm why would someone buy the xdm?

I have a 3.8" vs. Glock 29 video. Either is good. I edc my g29.
@@AlaskanBallistics sweet ill watch that thanks man
@@AlaskanBallistics so out of the 10mm pistol you edc the g29? Is it jus more comfortable for you? Watching that vid right now as well
I owned the g29 and was borrowing the xdm 3.8".
Gotta get the funds.
Yep
I'm a total Springfield or HS produkt fanboy. I've got multiple springfields and those are the only guns that I'll buy the echelon is great but I don't like it more than the XDM elites I don't like the way they gave up the grip safety the loaded chamber indicator the cocked striker indicator basically everything that the XDM has I think they heard too many people bitching and moaning about the grip safety which has been prevalent on a 1911 since the beginning of time and try to appease that crowd I'll stick with my XDM s.
Great video!!!
Thank You!
@@AlaskanBallistics Yes sir !🔥
Love my XDM! sold my Glock’s
Yeah i get it.
See you at the range
👍
My G20 Gen4 can occasionally be weird with hardcast rounds, seems like it depends on the day lol. I don't carry the hardcast in it when im out in the woods anymore, because I don't feel like I can't guarantee its going to feed perfectly every time. What has functioned basically perfectly is the Underwood Xtreme Penetrators, their overall length and shape of projectile just seems to work in my particular G20.
They're a good bullet might also try Underwood's 165gr fmj. Flat nose. Not too long like hardcast.
Which guide rod/spring did you get? Poundage?
@AlaskanBallistics Glock Store titanium 20#. They wouldn't take it back once I figured out the GR was the issue. (Though technically outside of their policy)
@lacrossed55 my ndz 22lb is great except with lightly loaded fmj from ppu or herters
@AlaskanBallistics it was crazy. Higher power stuff, nose up ftf all day long. Especially Buffalo Bore. It was OK, but wouldn't place my life on it, with Underwood hardcast
Yeah the ndz steel will be way better.
I prefer my G20 over my XDm Elite. It just feels better in my hand. But I like my FN510 better than either of these two.
I absolutely detest the grip on the FN510, but to each their own. Glad you found something that works for you! Godspeed and good hunting to you and yours my friend!
I wish the beretta apx came in 10mm
Me too
Got the xdm elite 10mm 3.8 compact, love it. Great reliable and accurate but I still prefer my glock 20 over all my 10mms
Still loses too much velocity for my taste.
@AlaskanBallistics . True, I do prefer my glock 20. Been thinking about getting the xdm full size my local gun store has a few. 10mm is getting popular here in east Tennessee.
Thanks for the video Chuck 🇺🇸 🇳🇿
Thank you David!
To each their own
I like em both. 😊
Me too
Get an XD, much better than a Glock. Also, there are not as many parts to swap out to make it work the way you would like your pistol to shoot as well. Good luck and stay safe!!! 😉😉😉
Thank you
Thanks for the video. Haven't quite decided but I believe I am going with a S&W. :-) I have the week to decide and appreciate your feedback.
Also exact springs and fixed are listed in that video's comment section
Thank You
@@AlaskanBallistics Thank you very much for your time and advice. Gonna hold off with my purchase.
Honestly I'd just get a stippling job on the g20 and a 5 to 7 inch kkm barrel...
I have the xdm elite in fde!
Beautiful
Springfield Elite 3.8 barrel. Holds its own among 10mm competitors in the working man's price point.
Yeah but velocity loss in that barrel. Good for concealed carry
@AlaskanBallistics
Yep, but that's the case with any short barreled firearm.
My Glock Gen4 never had one issue
Nice. Mine did
Happy Father's day 💙. Go buy a Springfield 🎉
Lol thanks
Yes Sir Salute 🫡
One of my favorite in my gun collection Springfield Armory 3.8 10mm
That's a fun one for sure.
Chuck, I'm here to speak up for the M&P! I originally bought a 9mm m&p and then put an apex trigger and barrel and a few other goodies. I have probably 3000 rds through that gun and I promise I ve had zero malfunctions -so naturally I went back to the well w when I wanted a 10
I left it bone stock and same story to date; zero malfunctions! Now, I grant you that I have a total of only 600 rds through the 10mm but again, not so much as a bobble
I'm not even an s&w fan boy, well until now
My m&p 5" 9mm jammed a lot and had many trigger reset failures. Had to send it back.
Have you tried full power loads out of the m&p 10mm? Tons of videos, including mine, showing it jamming. I'll never trust my life to an M&P if I can help it.
@@AlaskanBallistics full power? Yes
Hard cast? No
@ChronicalsofAl well if you don't have the dangerous game in your area for hardcast, I wouldn't either. Hopefully S&W have their stuff figured out.
@ChronicalsofAl in the larger calibers like 44 magnum or higher they don't generally deflect
I'll get the glock. Idc. Grip safeties are terrible with heavy gloves, are just one more thing to screw up.
A fair couple of Points! Godspeed and good hunting to you and yours my friend.
XDM BEST
Hey chuck take it easy on chuke you bully him on video to much its not funny,I would be kinder to him your belittling him is immature .You have great knowledge on fire arms and I like your channel.Don’t throw him under the bus
We do it to each other as a joke.
You should see the memes he posts about me.
I've said many times that I appreciate him and that he's done a lot for my TH-cam channel, more than anyone else.
Besides, I can still outshoot him.
MY GLOCK GEN 5 BLOW UP WITH HARD CAST 220
Yeah... that's why you out a fully supported chamber barrel in first. Common knowledge for 10mm glock's
If you want a true 10 mm semi-auto sig p220 Legion double single action
For the price of 3 of these. But yes good gun
@@AlaskanBallistics buy once cry once.
@MrAntuan25 or buy 3 times the amount of guns for the same reliability, if not better.
The only argument you can make against it is price and capacity
My suggestion to that is, you get what you pay for ,and shoot better.
@AlaskanBallistics I do agree between the glock 20 g5 and the The Springfield xdm, The springfield is undeniably better and every category.
On the springfield I can do without the grip safety though . Between my ownership of both of them. I would buy the springfield again Over the glock.
Fn510
Just wish they made that with a better grip
@@AlaskanBallistics like a bglocky grip?
@thebushbunker better stippling.
why buy a glock if you you have to change the barrel ,trigger and sights
A fair point
My DOT is not sighted in either
Lol been watching chuke too much?
Great video. Personally id take the G20. My hand rolled PF45 in 10mm has been solid except for the aftermarket pos trigger pin that snapped in half, gun still worked though. I replaced it with a factory pin and it’s been perfect since. I shoot Underwood ammo about 90% of the time so the cheap inferior trigger pin wasn’t up for the task. I’ve been shooting Glocks for 25 years. Their simplicity is unmatched. Great video.
Very true 👍
Never liked Glock Firearms.
Springfield XDM Elite 10mm All The Way.
Too bad they don't make the longslide anymore
@@AlaskanBallisticsi sure regret getting rid of my 5.25 model.
Glock for me, thanks.
Fair enough. Thanks!
Chuke calling shots like they are at 1k yards. lol
Lol
Yeah, he’s funny. Seems like a guy I would enjoy hanging out with though.
Get the XDM! I really like mine. I’ve seen Chuke shoot he just shot the target backing with no target. No wonder he’s a horrible shot. 😂
Yep
We Love You Chuke!!😀
Lol don't encourage him too much! 🤪
I absolutely hate mettle recoil guid rods there really junky sounding and feeling. Ill take the glock you can change to what you want .
They're also less flex which means more accuracy and longer dwell time.
Great video. Your last 3 shots off the bench rest around the 11:38 mark are going over the back stop berm. Be careful.
Thanks
@11:20 it looks like you are shooting over the backstop, firing up at the high target frame from a bench rest.... hope nobody lives back there.
And I thought folks played fast and loose with gun safety in Kentucky. Lol you guys are total mad men.
We were hitting the backstop every time... I don't know you thought you saw. The range officer even checked.
👍👍
Thank you
Chuke is jealous that you hit the target at all.
Truth
Plastic guide rod - smh
Seriously
Go buy a Springfield
@mauricehardy5012 certainly a good choice.
Hate g locks
Sorry you're not enlightened 🤪
Godspeed and good hunting to you and yours.
XDM lol "grip zone" .. Whats it 1999? It wasn't a good gun then ..just average heavy gun ... In 2024 we see 2011 now 500$ in 10 mm why would someone buy the xdm?
Where can you find a 500 dollar 10mm 2011?
John Wick would pick Glock over XDM
True.
I'm still torn between this and the FN
They both have horrible grips to me lol... they both function well.
If CHukes G20 was sighted in correctly would have helped. Both seem to be solid guns but, I'm partial to the glock
Me too
👑 Gen4 Glock20
Ehh mine Jammed a lot more than the gen5
@ insane, I’ve never had issues with mine. I own a few Glock20 Gen4’s and my buddies do too and no issues at all. Might be an Alaska thing lol
@OO7_iam maybe.
