Just picked up a Glock 20 . The only underwood ammo the store had was extreme defender . I ordered the penetrator. Very wise use of ammo by getting accuracy and Chrono testing at the same time. And putting the Chrono in front of the gel block and getting velocity as it enters the gel . Good test brother. I subscribed on this video
Nice! They are both pretty awesome rounds. It's really the best of both worlds. Penetration with weight retention, Extreme energy dump and violent cavitation. I'm glad you like the format of the test! Every time I see somebody dropping 5 shots into the air for a chronograph I cry. You never know when you might catch a bullet tumbling out of the barrel or something weird. The more angles you can document the better in my opinion. It's a constant learning process. I just bought 4 boxes of this in Underwood's new "Platinum Edition" dry lube coated rounds. Absolutely perfect all purpose defensive ammo. Ty turkey's opinion for testing these!
The Underwood 140 grain Lehigh is what I carry in the woods instead of hardcast. Your testing seems to show that it's every bit as good as hardcast maybe even better because it appears to be barrier blind. Hopefully you'll be doing a test on the Underwood Lehigh extreme defense bullets as that's my in town ammo. Keep up the good work and thanks for all your doing to further the knowledge of the 10 mm ammo.
My cmmg 10 mm. It gives me a better idea of what it's doing. Underwood is top-notch. In previous hunts I have flipped Hogs over with that projectile. One of these days I got to get a cronografo. Right now just having a blast learning how to reload and get load data. Man I wish I could have done this years ago. Keep it up we are watching
Heck yeah!! I want one of those CMMG's really bad! One day ill drop the dough. I would never shoot 10m if I couldn't reload it. I think comparatively it is the most overpriced round out there. It's usually decent for defensive ammo prices but range ammo is pathetically weak and super expensive. I can't help but feel that the industry does not want to go to 10 mm but they feel like they were forced to (again) so I think that they feel like they're going to force us to pay for it also... We all know how popular 9 millimeter is.... And that is no different even with the people who work for the big companies or run them. People with access to all kinds of ammo and calibers still go with freaking 9 mm. I mean ok, If that's your style fine. But I just don't believe it. I don't believe that 99.9% of the country falls into the 9 mm category. And if it did wouldn't you want to be different sometimes? Does everybody in America drive the same car? Could you imagine everybody from police to farmers driving around 4 cyl Honda Civics? Because they're good enough. Because they get the job done most of the time.... even though they don't lol...🦃👊👍

I was going to chamber of my rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor because it's very common. Just a chance learn how to reload more than shotgun and now I got a badass 300 PRC. I'm glad to see you were getting consistent reads on those. On solid copper I sometimes have to color the bullet with a marker to get a consistent read.
The prices make me wince but I sure do love having Underwood and/or Buffalo Bore when I need full power from a cartridge. Got a Glock G40 some years ago back when the Gen4s were new and haven't regretted it a moment. Just fun to pull a long slide and put solid hits on steel at 100 yards. @@Wildwestwrangler Just the stock Glock sights, touched up slightly because the dot on the front sight started to wear. I had a red dot on it for a while but moved it to another gun. Seems a waste to not use all that sight radius, and it never hurts to practice irons, even though dots are measurably better overall.
This is my primary load when I’m traveling thru the Appalachian Mountains. Carrying now an Sig P320 XTEN Comp (15+1), two spare mags in a Craft Holster ROTO shoulder rig. With two offside mag holders and snap flaps. In my 35 years as a certified firearms instructor, this is absolutely the most comfortable rig I’ve ever used. For any gun. The snap loops for each side on the belt act like suspenders for this old guy!
Just bought an Sig XTEN comp and took it out to the range yesterday. Absolutely fantastic gun, had a Glock 20 and Delta Elite 1911 in the past. The XTEN Comp is completely on a different level. Given me a totally different outlook on the P320 platform.
This is an impressive load. It shows a great deal of upset in the gel but still penetrates very well for a relatively light for caliber bullet. Looking forward to seeing how it performs when encountering sheet metal, glass and wood.
I noticed that the fps declined with every shot. Maybe you can test the effects of an increasing temperature ( possible barrel expansion/tightening)? Thanks for your continued work on both the 10mm and the XDm Compact.
Thank you for the tests. I wanted to make a comment about felt recoil of 10mm. It appears that most 10mm pistols are intentionally undersprung by the manufacturers (somewheres in the vicinity of what a similar 45 spring would be, maybe 17lb). I think they KNOW that most factory ammo is in the hot 40S&W range and that's what most folks would use, so they don't want people to experience failures to cycle. They probably even figure that those planning to use the real woods ammo don't mind a little tuning. I have an M&P10 and replaced the RSA with a Galloway 24lb. RSA. These same rounds, while stout, are totally agreeable and possibly less than a stout 357mag (these underwoods actually have very comparable performance). The only issue for me is the really aggressive stippling and grip geometry beats up my strong thumb knuckle (after going through 100 range rounds and a couple of mags of the Xtreme Penetrators). I think more of a revolver grip helps with this instead of thumbs forward. Anyway, back to the RSA, mine still reliably cycles the weaker range stuff (Blazer aluminum 180gr) and now it doesn't beat up the frame and my hands needlessly. I am not any kind of "operator", I do shoot 44mag, but last time I shot a cylinder of regular 38 special from a j-frame, I whined and had enough of that. So I'm not trying to prove anything. Just saying that with an appropriate spring tension it's much better, even with real 10mm loads. It'll feel more like a standard 40.

Thank you... My first round of the 140 Xtreme from a G40 6" was 1701 with a Glock Smillie so big on the web of the case I was surprised it didn't blow. Shot the rounds through a G20 and RID 1911 TAC II and was definitely over spec... Contacted Underwood and they wanted the rest of the ammo back... And sent a couple more brand new boxes more to spec... I use the rounds in the G40 while traveling in a car...
thank you for comparing the 2 rounds of 10mm I was debating between Fort Scott and this Underwood ammo. I find it weird that FSM runs about 200 FPS slower but gets 2" deeper with similar wound cavities. Seeing as I already run FSM for my 9mm and 5.56 weapons looks like I will stick with them for the 10mm as well.

When my range did some ballistics gel testing, one person brought some 9mm underwood extreme.... I brought some 9mm TUI ammo, the TUI did as good or better with penetration and wound cavity.

I just bought this ammo. But seeing it flip around backwards is making me think twice about using it. why is it flipping backwards? looks like where the wound cavity changes shape from destructive to a thin cavity is where it is flipping around backwards and no longer spearheading with that X shape.

I own the hellcat, also a springfield handgun, i was having jamming up under the feed ramp. So bad i had to forcibly strip the mag out and then pull the stuck round out. So I sent it out for factory repair. Got it back took it out to the range, false slide lock back (I don't use thumbs on frame in my grip), and a failure to go into battery. Going to have to send it out once again back for factory repair. Don't know what's going on with springfield.
Impressive stuff for use against large animals (angry bears and moose here in Alaska), but way too much penetration to be an anti-personnel load. I hope that The 10mm series is not done and I'd really like to see you test the Underwood Xtreme defender 10 mm.
I’m really curious how penetration in 10% Ordnance gel translates to clear ballistics gel and living tissue, namely humans. My understanding is, the given penetration in 10% gel will yield about half in a human threat, and yield less penetration than clear gel. Having said that, I’d imagine one would want ~12” of penetration on a human threat, therefore equal to about 24” in 10% gel or slightly more in clear gel. Why? Two days ago, I facilitated my last force-on-force trng with Airsoft. I took a “round” to my left forearm as I was shooting back. Afterwards, as food for thought, I pointed out that the “round,” by time it penetrated my arm (4 inches thick where I was hit), traversed the air gap from my arm to my chest, and penetrated to my back was easily more than 12.” In terms of gel math, to my understanding, and I’m probably wrong, one would want 24-25 inches in 10% Gel or 25-30 inches in clear gel. Hopefully someone in the know can provide a solid response and set me straight if I’m off course.
This load is all I carry when I travel in the Appalachian Mountains in either my Springfield 1911 Operator or my Glock M29. Speaking as an instructor these last 35 years, your accuracy may be suffering because you’re waiting far too long to break the shot.

It is called DDX DryDuck. They are actually a real pain to get ahold of. If periodically come in-and-out of stock seasonally I think. I had to pay like 40 bucks for the last one off of Ebay or something. I used to buy them for $15 on sale from Field Supply. These things are really awesome. You can double them up and they get that much warmer. If you get one don't put it in the dryer. It will remove the waterproof coating. As far as working in it? I landscape with it on and mow grass. I wear it around the horses all day. I have my ones for work and my good ones. They do tear easily if you hit something sharp. I hope this helps!🦃👍👊

@@theturkeysopinionif you want the toughest rain gear around that you can still move in try Tingley rain gear. It's what the logger use in the Pacific Northwest, and they are as hard on rain gear as can be!!! Tingley lasts better than most!!!
Not that I know of. But I am not a metal expert. But copper is softer than steel. So the copper gives. The steel rifling leaves noticeable grooves in the bullet after firing.👊👍🦃
Underwood now loads some of the Lehigh fluted copper rounds (premium edition) with some type of black coating. Not sure if it's Hi-tek coating or what, but I do believe it does address some of the concerns involving premature wear to the bore.

So I sent it out for factory repair. Got it back took it out to the range, false slide lock back (I don't use thumbs on frame in my grip), and a failure to go into battery. Going to have to send it out once again back for factory repair. Don't know what's going on with springfield.

I’m really curious how penetration in 10% Ordnance gel translates to clear ballistics gel and living tissue, namely humans. My understanding is, the given penetration in 10% gel will yield about half in a human threat, and yield less penetration than clear gel.
Having said that, I’d imagine one would want ~12” of penetration on a human threat, therefore equal to about 24” in 10% gel or slightly more in clear gel. Why? Two days ago, I facilitated my last force-on-force trng with Airsoft. I took a “round” to my left forearm as I was shooting back. Afterwards, as food for thought, I pointed out that the “round,” by time it penetrated my arm (4 inches thick where I was hit), traversed the air gap from my arm to my chest, and penetrated to my back was easily more than 12.” In terms of gel math, to my understanding, and I’m probably wrong, one would want 24-25 inches in 10% Gel or 25-30 inches in clear gel. Hopefully someone in the know can provide a solid response and set me straight if I’m off course.
People always say, you can't get as quick of follow ups with 10mm as 9mm. True, but no one is walking away after getting hit with a 10mm.

Important question here. What rain jacket is that, and is it durable enough to work in?
It is called DDX DryDuck. They are actually a real pain to get ahold of. If periodically come in-and-out of stock seasonally I think. I had to pay like 40 bucks for the last one off of Ebay or something. I used to buy them for $15 on sale from Field Supply. These things are really awesome. You can double them up and they get that much warmer.
If you get one don't put it in the dryer. It will remove the waterproof coating.
As far as working in it? I landscape with it on and mow grass. I wear it around the horses all day. I have my ones for work and my good ones. They do tear
easily if you hit something sharp.

Are these harmful to your barrel ?
Not that I know of. But I am not a metal expert. But copper is softer than steel. So the copper gives. The steel rifling leaves noticeable grooves in the bullet after firing.👊👍🦃
Underwood now loads some of the Lehigh fluted copper rounds (premium edition) with some type of black coating. Not sure if it's Hi-tek coating or what, but I do believe it does address some of the concerns involving premature wear to the bore.
That penetration exceeds the FBI protocol. Would the defenders have done better?
