The DT 230 grain bonded defense is NOT a gold dot. It's Xtreme X-Def bullet, which a basically a cheaper plated hollowpoint similar to gold dot. They tend to come apart when pushed but definitely expand much larger than a gold dot. Seems to be a great bullet at the right velosity.
You’re right 👍🏼 great prices on 50 round boxes of those through freedmen munitions but never seen them tested. I’m a strong believer in heavy clothing tests living in northern Michigan. I may have to buy a box and test them through my meat and clothing test.
This is great to know and adds to the versatilityof this model! I bought the 45 XDM Elite last year for $350. I like it just as much as my 10mm XDM Elite 3.8" (which I got for $500 a few years back). They are identical in their dimensions and can use the same holsters. These handguns are true sleepers. Not the most attractive or having the best grip, but they just work! Accurate, reliable, and eat just about any ammo with surprisingly low recoil for their size. Tom is one one of the few Guntubers who appreciate and test these models. Kudos!
Total sleepers. Even the 9mm due to capacity and accuracy. Big mag is 22+1😃. 10 is a hammer, 45 is a hammer... too bad we did'nt get a .40 or .357 sig but these are very cool. I did hear another bad report about a trigger safety breaking🫤 So that's stinks but.... Thanks for watching!👍🦃👊
If we could get a Walther PDP grip, a bore axis height of a Gen1 M&P, the mag capacity of a glock 45acp, and the trigger of a Cabot 1911 in one gun that runs .45 Super 10's of thousands of rounds with minimal wear? That would be pretty cool. 😆
@@theturkeysopinion If you have a 10, you have a .40 too. I shoot .40 in my 10mm at the “no magnum” Fudd range. It’s also easier to find subsonic .40 if you use a muffler.
Best gun reviewer on YT. He reviews the guns a lot of gun You Tubers refused to review. This guy reviews all the heavy hitter guns from 10mm to 460 magnum. I have the 3.8 XDM 45ACP and didn't know it could run 45 Super and 450SMC which is cool as hell.
I've been carrying one of these for a month or so and it is the best carry gun I've had in the past 20 years. So seeing this video pop up today, you have made my year! Please please gel test these loads!
Ive been saying for years ive been saying the XDM are real shooters. even as im technically a glock guy because i have more of them but i have 5 different XDM models they are all fantastic firearms. I have a full size 45 xdm and thinking of doing some testing.
Man, I bought that same xdm elite osp 45 over a year ago from PSA for $320, I can't wait to put some super through it. This video made my day. I think these people are on clearance at PSA now too.
You covered a lot in this video and it just flowed one round after another. Seeing them kick your wrist I know I'll just stick with stock 45, 185 and 200gr if I want a bit faster. Enjoyed the range time.
You had the exact same issue that I did with the 10mm with a round prematurely ejecting out of the mag. That’s two xdm’s doing that now. Very odd…. Great testing and wow, they should have advertised this, they would have sold a bunch more. Btw, they are on that place that arms palmettos on a yellow Saturday promo. 😂😂😂
You have one of the most informative and thorough gun channels on U-tube, hands down! You belong in the same group as WTW and Ron Spomer...with your range of both calibers and types of guns and ammunition being second to none. Being honest, I have been trying to understand why your channel hasn't seemed to receive the recognition that it deserves and the only thing that I can think of is perhaps that the name of your channel may have the effect of misleading some potential subscribers who haven't taken the time to watch what you do on your channel... so that they may understand how good your channel really is... especially, in terms of it's information content! Just to let you know...I have been lucky enough to have enjoyed experimenting with guns and ammunition for nearly 70 years and during that time acquired contacts such as ADPA/NDIA, Aberdeen PG, National Labs such as LLNL and the guidance by some of the top people at military arsenals as well as program developers... when pushing the limits of both powder gun launched (.50 caliber and under) and EM (researched) achievable velocity gradients and aero-thermal velocity limits et al... and I am currently enjoying winding down through the more practical domains of what can be achieved by tweaking readily achievable shoulder fired platforms. Keep up your excellent work... you make some of your testing seem a lot easier than it really is! Take care and keep your powder dry!
WOW!!! What a fun video. Very informative and entertaining. A lot of great information. Thanks for letting us know all of this. Have a wonderful weekend my friend.
Very cool that Springfield didn't just tell you "don't do it" for liability reasons. I've had my .45 XDM-E for a few years now. I didn't think it was anything all that great when I got it. Every time I try something else, I always come back to it. It's accurate, handling is great for the size, and mine has been as reliable as its Glock inspiration. I do wish the trigger was less mushy, but it has a very consistent pull and clean break, definitely towards the top of striker fired triggers. An all around great pistol. I'll be very interested to see what updates they make, if that rumor turns out.
Would love to see more testing on the xdm with 45 super. I use this gun as a woods gun. Would love to see the underwood 45 super hard cast 255 grain in gel out of this short barrel. And I know you have tested the 185 grain hollowpoint 45 super but wonder if the drop in velocity would add penetration due to less expansion. Thanks for the great video!
I see some retailers still have them as a xdm elite defender, just ordered on , only one magazine, one backstraps 350 not a bad price with meta trigger and set up for optic. Another good one Turkey
Hey thanks for the info! I've been carrying 45 super in my Xdms for years. I can't believe Springfield doesn't advertise this more. It's probably a legal thing.
Great walk through some options. I really want a woods 45 super, and you almost prompted me to pull the trigger on this one. Very tempting price, wish it had a five mag package like they used to do with their ten, for a few bucks more. Then, it would be easier for me to dabble, where I don't need another side excursion. Nice job TO.
AWESOME VIDEO BROTHER!!! your shooting some of my favorite EDC rounds 45 super is awesome, and your right 100% about making sure your firearm can handle these rounds ive seen knuckle heads blow there guns apart and almost there hands & fingers, i cant stress it enough if people are gonna beef up there 1911's 45 acp for shooting 45 super PLEASE!! dont forget to install a heavy duty firing pin spring, and a heavy duty hammer spring on top of the rest i dont need to mention, because ive seen a few folks do everything else except the 2 i named and outcome long term wasnt good
I am very glad that you did not have just your ballistic contacts on when that round smacked you in the dome. great video TTO I will have to try and source some of this ammo
I hunt with the 45 Super in a little carbine but wanted to test some of my loads in a handgun. I didn't want to modify my Springfield National Match so I picked up a Hi Point JHP45. It really handles the 45 Super loads fine and because it is blowback operated the high pressure holds the cases against the chamber really well and it ejects the cases at my feet.
I never knew about the .450 SMC until your videos. I've been wishing for a 10mm FN FNX 45, but now I don't need one. I currently have two FNX 45 tacticals. On is converted to 460 Rowland, but the muzzle brake is huge. I ordered just a 460 Rowland spring for my other one to shoot the .450 SMC.
The 10mm and the 45acp elite XDm's are identical in every way except the barrel, I own both. Just like the 9mm and 45acp XDs are exactly the same also.
I could easily just buy a 10mm handgun, but honestly- I've enjoyed the tinkering aspect of bringing my Glock G30 up to spec to shoot hot .45 Super and 450 SMC. As of now I've got it to meet the reliability and power I was looking for. These Springfields look great, I may still end up with one someday. Your channel is super well done and interesting, I really appreciate the content. If you haven't had a chance to check out the small ammo company "Lost River Ammo Company" based out of Idaho, the guy makes some nice hardcast loads for a really fair price.
Seems to handle it pretty well. I’m running tests using Lil’gun & 255 grn hard cast. Velocities high 11’s low 12’s (high 7’s - low 800 fpe) Primers look way better than power pistol. Pistol is colt 70 setup for 460 level loads. Worth a look with 230’s & heavier. Thanks for the review!!
Thanks for the informative video. I have a XDM 3.8 which I will have to try it out. Also have an FNX which is sprung for 460 Roland but not yet chambered for it to run some super and 450 AMC through it.
That is some serious stuff. I think in terms of 200 grain projectiles you can get equal or higher velocities in 10mm. (Buffalo Bore actually lists equal velocities for 200 grain projectiles in 10mm and 45Super)
I'm still trying to figure out exactly why it will fail sometimes. I don't think I have the perfect positioning yet. I know some people that have one hundred percent reliability pretty much. I'm at about ninety percent. But overall , I think it's totally worth it. Just not having to align the stupid chronograph down range all the time. And all of us are bound to shoot the dumb things down there. It just happens like magic. I knocked the bars off of mine one time and somehow did not kill it. 👊🦃👍
Thanks! Great info: I'm looking for some Starline 45 Super brass to give it a try. P.S. Have you ever heard anything vis-a-vis the Ruger American 45 and 45 Super capability/compatibility as well?
I have not heard about those particular handguns taking the super or not🤔 Good luck on the search! I know it's out there but it's a matter of WHEN you can find it. People suck up those runs really fast. Thanks for watching!👊👍🦃
I think the 9mm discontinued is telling, my guess is XD will be a staple as their entry/duty level firearm (ala the new mod 3), and Echelon will replace the Elite line. Having owned and/or shot both, I love the XDME, but I am hoping and waiting for an Echelon compact, I had an amazing day shooting an Echelon but dont have a need for a full-size, but a compact I can justify for winter or OWB carry. ;)
Did you inspect your brass? Looking at the brass marks around the ejection port the hot stuff is going to have dented brass indicating you should have a heavier recoil spring for those loads considering you’re a reloader. ?
Wow. I've actually got a springfield XDM 45 acp. 3.8. Is there any difference in the ability to handle the 45 super rounds between the XDM and the XDM elite 3.8?
Watching this for the 3rd or 4th time. May be buying the 9mm XDM Elite today. A thought: regular 9mm pressure is still more than .450 smc, which iirc is about 33,000. Logically if the same frame can run 10mm it can run these hotter .45 loads.
These Springfield XD pistols are built like tanks, I have a XD-40 Mod.2 and feed it a regular diet of redlined hand loads and never any issues. I would never do so with a Glock
That is some of the best lube on the market. Very under appreciated. Their cleaners are also amazing. " why change it (powder type and charge weight)when its that simple?" . Different bullets, even very similar looking or same looking bullets can create drastically different pressures using the same propellent and charge. This is outlined in some of the more informative hand loading books like from speer. Very nice pistol and very interesting test. That 255grn hard cast is definitely a great woods round. I'd love to see what it can do to a heavy shoulder joint / shoulder blade before hitting gel. Know any butchers who do wild game or beef with discarded bones to test with?
The DT 230 grain bonded defense is NOT a gold dot. It's Xtreme X-Def bullet, which a basically a cheaper plated hollowpoint similar to gold dot. They tend to come apart when pushed but definitely expand much larger than a gold dot. Seems to be a great bullet at the right velosity.
Good info! Never even thought about that one. I kind of forget about those.
I will pin this.
Thanks for watching!👊🦃👍
You’re right 👍🏼 great prices on 50 round boxes of those through freedmen munitions but never seen them tested. I’m a strong believer in heavy clothing tests living in northern Michigan. I may have to buy a box and test them through my meat and clothing test.
Turkey's opinion going to get lots of extra clicks from Thanksgiving searches lol extra popular one day a year 😂
@theturkeysopinion Not sure why you deleted my comment, but I did text Rhett and he verified that information is correct about the bullet.

@theturkeysopinion they did make a .40. Its just not an Elite model.

Thank you!!! Much appreciated! Very cool😎 Thanks for watching!👍🦃👊👊👊👊👊
We're headed to the range right now. Three boxes of 45 super. And the Springfield awesome information. Now I have two 45 supers
Have a fun range day!👍🦃👊
I've fired 45 Super and SMC from lots of 45s, including the XDS. The Shield 45 with Super is one heck of a carry gun!
I have a XD Mod 2 45, with the grip zone. Will that one take the 45 smc or super?
I've been carrying one of these for a month or so and it is the best carry gun I've had in the past 20 years. So seeing this video pop up today, you have made my year! Please please gel test these loads!
That's pretty close to the original military loads for 45 Colt, 255gr @ 1050 fps. Impressive from a medium sized package. Verrrrrry interesting......
It is pretty cool! I love some 45c! Great point.👍 And thanks for
watching as always!🦃👊👍
This was a true PSA video. Thanks 👍
Yeah idc what people say, Springfield XD are amazing guns

Absolutely love the content one of my favorite people to watch, even the lingo sometimes has me cracking up, you're the best shot I've seen
Appreciate the comment brother! Thank you for watching! We just try to do our thing as you know👊👊👊👊👊👍👍👍👍👍🦃
As always, I love this channel. This video is making me think I want to invest in a Springfield 45 for a 460 Rowland conversion.
Love your videos man
Thanks for watching them!👍👊🦃
1st time viewer here. Have to compliment you on a VERY thorough video. Very well done.
Yeah he does make good videos.

This is fascinating if true. Only gun that I knew of that could handle 45 Super just fine stock is the HK Mark 23.
Now that is a hammer
Yessir!👍👍👊🦃

Have the same model. Mines absolutely will cycle anything 😅
Love it , great video sir
Underwood 135gr XD 45 Super is my go to in my FNX. Handles it with no problems.
185.?
Thanks,enjoyed
Handgun engineering is reaching a peak. The quest is over. Handguns have nowhere to go.
Nonsense. I need them in all colors, calibers, barrel lengths, shapes, etc.
I need a single stack hammer fired lightweight 10mm. There's plenty of places to go!
Thank you! I have the 45 this is great info!
My old box of 450SMC has a price sticker of $16.95.
Bought in the mid 80's.
I hope that's for 50
This is amazing, I'll stick to my 10mm but this is verrrrry good to know. Might snag one if I see it on sale.
The 10mm and the 45acp elite XDm's are identical in every way except the barrel, I own both. Just like the 9mm and 45acp XDs are exactly the same also.
Well, I’d love to get my hands on that fire breathing little dragon.. Thanks for the video.😅
Cheap as heck right now. Thanks for watching!👍👍👍🦃👊
Great video. Thanks for the info
Damn I wish i knew this when these pistols were on mega clearance a few months back.
Palmetto State armory still has them.
Very nice video. Thanks for info.
Great information. Thanks brother!
I like the Greta Thunberg reference. 😂
😁 She had no idea how much entertainment she could provide in that speech🤣🦃👊👍👍👍
That came in at the right time, a surprise. Think about that nut, break out laughing.
Well, this is welcoming news. I just so happen to own this exact pistol. XDM Elite 45 in 3.8. well, well, well,. Thanks for letting us know
Hey man, great one. Thanks
Thank you for watching it!👊🦃👍
Great video! Another channel TriggerBarPhilosophy had his 10mm XDM do the same thing with the round ejecting
That's a good channel! And yeah, thats an odd one but very concerning👍👍👍🦃👊
Sweet video, my next gun I have been looking at that same one in 10mm, so now thanks to your video.I have options, 45 super hmmm.
I sold my Springfield 3.8 10mm and got the FN 510 and made a great choice!
That was awesome!! 😂😂👍🏻 👍🏻
I shot 45super out of my xdm 3.8 45 for awhile then converted mine to 460rowland
Thanks for getting this information out. I am looking at 10MM or 460 Rowland. Maybe I should get an XD in .45 ACP and shoot 45 Super or 450 SMC. BK
Thanks for the informative video. I have a XDM 3.8 which I will have to try it out. Also have an FNX which is sprung for 460 Roland but not yet chambered for it to run some super and 450 AMC through it.
Pretty cool my friend
Thanks for watching!👍👊🦃
😳 wow I want one now ...like right now
Right lol. They are actually quite affordable at the moment. Especially for a discontinued item.🫤🫤🫤
Thanks for watching!👍👊🦃
Halfway through the video. Just noticed you left the mag well flare on! That alone spices up any ammo, ha! And ouch!
That is some serious stuff. I think in terms of 200 grain projectiles you can get equal or higher velocities in 10mm. (Buffalo Bore actually lists equal velocities for 200 grain projectiles in 10mm and 45Super)
There is case volume, pressure, and amount of powder. All of these would affect the possible velocities.
The still have these at PSA comes with one 10 round mag. Think I will stick with mine in 10mm.
Great video! You do a super job at explaining content. Thanks a ton. My question is why the primer change with the 450SMC? Thanks again.
.45 super is a Hosscat!
For sure!👊👍🦃
I'm hoping someday you'll be able to do a test of the best of these rounds through a PCC/PDW. Thanks for the videos!
I’ve shoot supers out them. It was a handful.
Really good information. I don't venture into bear country too often but if I do, I know which pistol to pack.
.45 is the big block of semi-suto handguns...some major torque being produced there. Are you following up with gel tests?
Outstanding, makes me wanna find one of those in 45
Palmetto State regularly sells the 9 and 45 for tree-fiddy
Tree-fiddy😳
Very nice video, lots of information. Thanks guys.
Cool stuff man🎉🎉
I sure like your Garmin....maybe next year I will get one of those. Good info, thanks Turkey!

@theturkeysopinion Powder Valley had it in stock this A.M., and actually LE$$ EXPEN$IVE (?) than from Starline! Hard to believe, but true!
Don’t forget the xd 45 tactical 5 inch barrel
thanks for video, that good to know
Thanks for watching it!👍👍👍👍👍🦃👊

I did always want that one. I can imagine it's a great shooter👍🦃👊

Hmmm wondering xd mod 2 tactical ?
This is great I have a stable of xd and xdm 45acp
Such great guns I love my hellcat rdp
Wow. I've actually got a springfield XDM 45 acp. 3.8. Is there any difference in the ability to handle the 45 super rounds between the XDM and the XDM elite 3.8?
Prob not.
Check your manual. My early run xdm said it took 45 super.
I checked years ago when the original xds came out and was told 45 super is fine just not all the time.
Very cool 😎 👌 👍
What’s up turkey 🦃🦃🦃🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I bought an early xdm when they were new, and the manual said they were good for 45 super.
Very interesting.
Damnnnn! Great info, thanks!
