I drive school bus...and we are not allowed to change the route without permission...it doesn't matter how late we are going to be, we still picked up our kids..
emtb9111 my mother was a school bus driver for 5+ years in a very wealthy town. While the whole time being a closeted alcoholic. The school system and towns need much more control over who they hire and background check.
@@jeffliang7103 I'm sorry but I really don't think that an acceptable reason, at least not without notifying anyone. What's the point of getting to the school on time if you don't even have all the kids?
@@SolZaer and? Parents send their kid to a certain place at a certain time, he skipped it, and at least the parent shoulda been notified, even if they are late, they have to pick up and drop off everyone. Ive been on the bus plenty and when busses are late, the teachers are notified, alot over the speaker for everyone to hear "teachers and staff, please excuse those students just coming in, the bus was running late" and usually my schools they go house to house, not bus stops, except once at one school but i lived inna gated community, so they couldnt come in. Anyway, basically they cant skip just bcz they arenlate
Why the hell did she not have a house key?? That poor girl. When I was 11 I started taking the bus, my parents gave me a house key and a cheap flip phone in case of emergency.
Probably expect to home before the kid got home. I heard of a family who kids were grabbed by CPS because one day they ran late after years of getting there around the same time. Just because the older kid was alone at home for a little while.
I’m pretty sure their was a explanation why she didn’t have a phone (probably to young, Not allowed to own one or take it to school) and the house key she probably couldn’t afford one 🤷♀️
Don’t you think it’s odd that she said the first thing she did was use her pillow and lay down in the snow I mean we were stationed in Michigan for a majority of our military life and snow is always there and that would be the last thing my children would do at nine years old
There was this lady long long ago that almost tipped out bus. She claimed she did nothing wrong. She also left everyone behind. And I mean EVERYONE who rode that bus... Yeah... She was stupid.
My bus driver skipped a route once, he didn't see the kids who were all under shelter nearby because of rain so he just went past. I doubt this situation is the same though
Did y’all not hear the end where the mom says she’s talked to her daughter about using the electronic lock on her front door and talking to a neighbor? Y’all are so quick to place blame
Electronic locks usually still have a key feature. She should be given a key none the less. She was told to talk to a neighbor "if it ever happened again," meaning she was told to do so ONLY after the fact and not before.
“I’m a single mother, what can I do?” Give your child a cell phone, doesn’t have to be a smartphone, but a flip phone for emergencies she will rarely use, and a copy of the house key for her to take EVERYWHERE just in case! There are ways to learn from this situation!!
It’s the parents fault for not having her daughter have keys or a phone (the phone is not necessarily needed but it could be a cheap phone.) It is slightly the bus drivers fault but if it weren’t for the school the kid would’ve died making it the parents fault.
Liven65 she was nine her parents would have never expected this and it’s all the bus drivers fault and the school called two hours later so their both in the wrong not the mom
Don't be. That's the war smile. She's furious, just determined to try not to show it. When you work with school administration as a parent, you learn the nuance of smiles. The war smile stands out if you know what to look for. She was clearly saving her rage for the driver. But her frustration was rather painfully obvious too.
This bus driver is no longer driving for this school district. This bus driver shouldn't be driving for any school district. He/she should be fired! You don't just decide on your own to just skip stops. If you're running behind, let your dispatcher know and then follow your dispatcher's instructions. Is that so hard? The dispatcher's instructions would've probably been to keep doing the full route. Better late than never.
My school did that too, but it was an electronic voice mail, they did it because they knew most parents went to work and wouldn’t be home. So they would call during dinner so you’d get in trouble from your parents if your parent didn’t call in and say you weren’t coming
They have to if the child isn't present their absent and of they did mark them there how would they prove it she wouldn't have really done any work. But i think its kinda unfair since the school knew that the school bus skipped stops and missed a few children. :/
In my school we had authorised absences for things you’d call ahead for, not after only ahead. Got into a car accident? Too bad unauthorised absence, the colleges you apply to will see this.
In my district if a student doesn't show up and a parent didn't call them in as absent, the school will call you at 9am (1 hour after school starts) i over slept one day and they called me to see if my kid was safe.
For all you people saying that she handled it poorly, I think she handled it rather well. She stayed calm, she tried to get in to her house and when she couldn’t she tried staying warm she used her resources around her. Also SHE’S NINE YEARS OLD! DO YOU EXPECT HER TO AUTOMATICALLY KNOW WHAT TO DO, AND WHERE TO GO!!? Didn’t thinks so.
I'm nine and one time I was almost late for the bus and it was freezing outside so me and my brother were running to the bus and what happened was he ran faster then me and I told him to go and tell the bus driver to wait for me so he got on the bus and told the bus driver to go and then I was just stuck there and I'm like crying quietly and I knew that I lived almost 30 min away from the school by walking 15 min by car so then my brother noticed that I wasn't on the bus so he called my dad but my dad was at this interview for a team leader position and my mom lived 1 hour away and I didn't know any of my neighbors so I looked in my bag for some cash and I took THE FREACKING TRANSIT BUS cuz I new I had to take the 4 bus and I went to school like that and while I was on that bus there was only like one person so I was about to ball out with tears and then finally made it to school and I was freezing and I ended up getting picked up really early
TinyŌkami i go st James high school and the buses comes so early and last Thursday someone from my school got run over the buses were stopped the teachers blocked the road and it was a busy road too and the pupils wasn't allowed to go to her bus the buses were so late and the cars were stopped the girl hadn't had her phone and it was disable at home and her house took two hours to get too and I think in the end she got on the bus I don't know my dad was really late and was parked in someone's parking where they should of had there garage
TinyŌkami what if they said no??? And she was new to the neighborhood and didn't know anybody??? What if she has none at home and she didn't have a home????? What if she was really shy???? Or really young??????
The driver should have communicated with his company If he was so delayed, they could have gotten another bus to pick up those kids. The only time parts of a route should be skipped is if the road is closed or if it too icy or if it is not plowed.
Schools are understanding about traffic and such, too. When I was in elementary school, there was a day that the school should have called a snow day but didn't. It was snowing hard and visibility was low. The bus had to go slowly; it was probably 20 minutes late, but my driver hit every one of her stops, because that's what she was supposed to do. No kids got in trouble for being late since the situation couldn't be helped. That's how it should be done.
But why did the bus skip their stop? I honestly do not understand bus drivers that think it's okay for them to change the route because they think it's "faster". Go to every single stop and get there at the time you are supposed to be there. Honestly, I wonder if it's that hard.
Charlotte Kim it's not, and with that weather being the norm, it's also illogical if that's the case, they put regarding that, in Britain it's hardly ever THAT bad, and when we get a minor flurry we go into red alert and they will tell you immediately and or provide alternative means of transportation
I can't believe someone would think it's ok to leave the kids behind, they had no idea what could happen to the kids!! What did they just think the parents would take them to school!?!? Some parents have to leave early for work like that kids mom or my mom. That bus driver definitely deserves to be fired for doing such a stupid and foolish thing.
Charlotte Kim My Bus driver dis the same thing. At least the next day he apologized and explained he was gonna come get me, and since i left. He couldnt call home.
Ippiki Õkami I would just walk to my friends/neighbors house. But I'm not trying to be mean because I know that not all kids have nice neighbors and I also know that not everyone has a good neighborhood, like for those who live in big cities or have a lot of kidnapped children reported close to their area. Something like this happens to me a lot and when it does happen, I do what I always do: Go across the alley or next door to my friends house and if they're not home, I try every friends or relatives' houses I know how to get to... So like this comment if something like this happened to you, and if so, comment after me about your story! Bai guys! 😊
Cause she tried to get into the back door but was trapped in her back yard and was stuck for a way out. I think if it was me I would have been screaming at top of my lungs if I was cold.
@@Chrissy85308 you don't need to buy them iPhone lol. Some Chinese phones will do less than 50 dollars and it can be used to call and text. No camera or internet tho.

xxLinah'sAngelsxx Dateline is a great show. It teaches you that ANYONE, no matter how trustworthy, can do terrible things if they get the chance. Also yeah, I don’t interact with my neighbors much because of that.
Look at the weather outside. You could take that precaution and the hiding place would be under an inch of ice. Not saying you're wrong, but still, crap happens.
@@hagamapama There are ways around the weather. And yes, crap does happen, but a prepared person can manage most of it. As for ice, not likely to happen where I am.
My mom got me a phone only when I was walking to school the bus didn't count since the stop was so close to the house and it's mandatory for the bus to drive by even if nobody is waiting there. Parents don't expect this in most cases schools become reliable the moment a child leaves the house and makes their way to school and from. At least mine was. I don't know what it's like for other schools.
Callsigncharlie100 yes I was thinking about the key my 2 sons knows how to open the door they 6 and 9 I teach them always how to manage alone and we have a camera inside the house too connected to our mobiles phone it’s cost not expensive from eBay China cameras ;)
Maybe she doesn't know her neighbours. She thought I'll try my house first and if yous all listened carefully clearly says she couldn't get back over the gate. Or maybe all the neighbours she did know were at work.
2 hours!? Okay first, if your kid isn't in school first period, call the parents! Second, teach your kid in a situation like this to go to your neighbors. That is all
A month without uploading *walks into neighbors* Neighbor: Why hello child Her: Hi! Neighbor: Want some candy???????😐😀 Her: Sure! *Neighbor hands candy Her: ZZZZZZZzZzzzzzzzzzzz Neighbor :that's it child sleep me in that situation OH HELL NAH NAH NAH
She tried to get in her back door, and was stuck in her backyard, so she couldn't go to her neighbors. And kids could be sick, so the school could think that she was sick.
Bella Simmons 762 she could’ve done that BEFORE jumping over the fence, I was in a similar situation as this girl except it was a hot as day and I went to the neighbors and I trusted them
That mom should give her daughter a key to keep in her backpack just Incase she needs to get in the house when her mom isn’t there Bc my momma be giving me my own key and my siblings just Incase I need it
Yeah as soon as I was taking the bus or walking to school I had a key, and I still have that exact same key to this day. Never lost it or anything which I find impressive as I don’t even live with my parents anymore
lol I would but whenever I miss skool and have extra work I get stressed and totally overwhelmed and close to tears worse case scenario. But not most of the time
Lucky for me I could sit inside at a table and look out window till the bus came up the road and walk out once I seen it while bus turned around to go back down the road.
i remember those days as a kid, i would climb in the basement window and play Nintendo. my mom wouldn't even know i wasn't home cause i turned the volume right down, and she would putter around upstairs. i got the whopping of a life time when i walked upstairs tho. in hindsight i should have climbed out the window and walked in the front door lol.
“i’m a single mother and work full time, what can i do?” give her a key. i live in freezing temperatures too and my siblings and i were given keys to the house if something happened where we’d have to go home alone.
@@candyzcomps Unless you have a door key with a chip in it, copying a key here only costs $1-$5. Not that expensive at all considering what could happen if you don’t have one. I don’t know how much it costs in Canada but I can’t imagine it costs much more.
Wow. Complete and total failure. Bus driver should be fired, not relocated. And these days, if a child does not show up at school, the parents should be contacted _immediately_, not 2 hours later. How many child abductions have occurred with children on their way to school? But I doubt that this is a problem just for this school. Absolutely every school should have a strictly observed protocol for *immediate* contact of parents when children do not show up.
My local school district to save money they got rid of receptionists so there is no-one to check who was called in absent first thing in the morning. Someone does it when they have a free period.
Theredstar2478 Is it the mom's fault for having to have a job? For wanting to support her kid? If this wasn't a rare scenario, there would be plenty of news stories just like this. But as far as I know, there are only a handful. Usually either the school notices and sends another bus, a parent notices their kid coming back and calls the school to get the first result (there were 2 other kids at the stop mentioned, what about their caretaker[s]?), or another bus from the same school that takes the same or a similar route picks up the kids from the stop.
You’d be surprised. We’ve had so many kids left in buses and parents don’t get the call. It frickin ridiculous. They used to always call when I was in school......
The thing is, attendance is not taken immediately and a lot of the time kids are just late coming from an appointment of some sorts. And then they have to track all the parents and give them a call and then deal with their freaked out reactions.
In my grandma's school days, the bus drivers drove through flooding waters. Their buses had water at the bottom of the steps, did that stop them? No. Could've put them in risk, sure, but that was back in the 50/60s.
For the people asking why she didn't go to a neighbors house, I think she couldn't get out of her back yard because the fence was too high. She had to push a trash can to get over the fence the first time so how could she get back over it?
If you leave your child alone frequently then they should have access to any type of communicating device with them to call for help if anything goes wrong.
@@billsloan5529 Then keep the phone off an in your backpack during school hours, it's for emergencies only a school isn't gonna confiscate a phone from your backpack , it doesn't take a genius to figure out phones are important for the safety of children nowadays
@Hari Avula is that really an emergency? God forbid a child experiences discomfort. What does it being cheap have to do with anything? Im not talking about price.
Kinda wanna blame the mom. Least for not giving her a key. I was given a key the 2nd i was able to go to school by myself. There really is no excuse why. And the fact tht she works full time is even more reason to give her a key. Hell the 2nd a kid can understand how to use a key and not swallow it and die from it, id give em a key. Even if the kid was being driven by parents to school and back home.
@@sneksneksnek0000 exactly. She and the other kids shouldn't have been put in that situation but in the video the principal said it took a while to note who was missing and to make phone calls.
A lot of parents don’t give their kids keys because some parents get home before their kids so they can pick them up from school, and also some parents don’t trust their kids with them because they could lose them and anyone could pick them up
She couldn't have. She used a trash bin to jump there. There was nothing on the other side to climb for her to jump back. Also, kids are not very logical, which is why she didn't go looking for an adult first. Her mother didn't prepare her for these situations. She has now. It was a lesson for everyone.
@@freddymercury8326 I sound so mean 😥 but she used a recycle can tipped on its side and climbed over the fence but on the other side there was nothing for her to get onto that allows her to get back out this concludes that the poor girl is stuck. I don't have a phone and I'm 15...i cri. It's so awkward too cause everyone nowadays is so anti-social with their phones and instagram and snapchat, so I'm just staring at the wall until the bell rings which could be over an hr
How long was she even waiting at the bus stop, because she could've kept standing there with the other kids until one of the other kids parents picked them up and asked them for help
Clueless.....first, the amount of time she waited after the bus' expected time is stated. Second, why would the other parents pick the kids up if they too are expecting the bus to pick them up. Thirdly, expecting other parents to pick a kid up with their kids, without express permission from the parents, is ridiculous and absolutely lacking in critical thinking.
Yeah, I guess 'CTV NEWS Winnipeg' didn't quite get the message through. Of course it didn't help that the description also says that CTV News is Canada's most-watched news organization. I can see how you got lost with all those subtle clues. At least the flag helped.
Be Free my house has finger print scanners and most of the houses I've been to have similar things where keys arent needed, mayb thats why she struggled
1) Yall have given out her information, her face, and that her mom is single so you’ve put her in danger. 2) If kids are the age of 10 and being left alone (even if it’s just at the bus stop) she needs a cheap cellphone & a house key
I didn’t get a house key or a cell phone till I was in high school. My big sister was in the same school. But she should have gone to the neighbors for help though.
Did you even watch the video? She wasn't alone and was with a group of other kids. The likelihood of one of the other kid's parents walking them over or watching them leave is probably why she felt her daughter would be safe.
Let’s not blame her mom for needing to work. You make it sound like she abandons her child. I️ got myself ready in the morning by the time I was eight, and my parents dropped me at the bus stop and left, or I️ walked. That’s perfectly normal.
I'm still trying to figure out why her mom who obviously is "dressed" in her government attire, which would require organizational skills, failed to make sure her daughter had a house key. Even a cell at age 9 could be considered necessary.
Lorelei Michelle I got a phone at 13... 9??? Maybe a key, but a phone is a little early. I would be okay if she got a flip phone, to avoid addiction at a young age.
I'm 15 and don't have a house key still, and I had a tracfone at 8 that failed to keep me in contact with parents cause screw minutes. Parents live in a culture separate to us and it's unfair to claim she's a poor mother for something that isn't usual to give to a child at a age we're mentioning.
Regina Winston but we can assume all we want. there is many things that could have been done. a neighbour, maybe a phone thats programmed with only one number and no internet access. walking route taught to her to a variety store? i dont know
this happened to me when i was 11 I was like 4 houses away from mine i was waiting for my bus. it was -27C without windchill and my bus never showed up i had a group of 3 kids with me and we waited for an hour. We walked to our neighbours house because our locks were frozen and we couldn't open them. we had proper winter clothes on but we were still VERY cold. My neighbour drove my twin brother and I to school. I got to school late and my teacher was very mad. After school i confronted my Bus driver. He never apologized he just yelled "get in your seat". He was never fired, even though everyone hated him.
I had a similar incident occur like this nearly fifteen years ago. The bus I would normally take to school obviously had a substitute driver and was running late, which got me real mad since I was in a musical at the time and they were doing previews and I didn't want to be late for cast call. At 7:30 AM, my mom decided to drive me to school. This hasn't happened since.
What was the bus driver thinking? As an adult, I've waited in freezing weather for a bus and had drivers drive right by because they were behind schedule. It's infuriating because you've already been waiting a long time, freezing your butt off, and now you have to wait even longer! But for a bus drive to just skip picking up elementary school kids, in freezing weather, because of traffic? Knowing full-well no other bus will be picking those children up. If the school hadn't called the mother, this story could have had a horrible ending.
I know the girl. I live in her city. I go to a school nearby. People need to calm down. She didn't go to a neighbors house because the doors were locked. I would have went to a neighbours house, but when she went into the backyard, she couldent get over the fence to get to a neighbours House. She was stuck in the backyard. She was wearing proper clothing for the weather. She was just outside too long. She does not have a phone because she is a younger grade. Here in Canada, it gets very cold, almost -50. She can't do anything about it if she was stuck. I'm not sure why she does not have a key, but I am 12 and I don't have a key either. Please don't criticize Tumia amd her family, there is a story behind every incident.
I had a neighbor I was told to go to if something happened on my block, nice old retired grandmother, she lived on our block since my mom was a kid. and I was told that the moment I was old enough to know what trouble was and how to cross the road safely. 😕 so that's what 5 years old?
she should still know how to go to a neighbor for God sake, if you live in a town you know your neighbor, considering you probably run into them every day when heading out to work or in the summer just in your yard
Yeah I thought the same thing. Has the mother not taught her any life/important skills? The first I was taught is if anything goes wrong or I have problems to go to neighbors or call out for help. At 8 years old I would have started walked up to doors and knocking.
Same thing happened at my school. A bunch of kids didn't make it to school and half my class wasn't there. The school bus driver skipped a lot of stops, and most of this kids didn't know where to walk to get to school. The kids were punished for skipping school.
Asocial_freak Well that school is retarded I once got into trouble for being late because there was a traffic jam, I was being driven to school by my dad and the buses were late as Well but the kids on the buses didn't get into any trouble
"just go to a neighbors house" Not everyone is going to be home just because you need them to be there. you can't just assume "oh they're at home go knock on the door" people have lives. they might have been at work too for all we know. I mean not everyones going to be at work at the same time but come on.
But that doesn't mean they're going to be home still, they could be out shopping, having family problems, getting a pet for all we now also didn't I mention this already with my "I mean not everyones going to be at work at the same time but come on."
She didn't go to a neighbors house because she couldn't get out of the backyard, she use a trash can to get in but there weren't other trash cans to help her get out. As for the other kids, they probably had family members that were home or doors that were unlocked
Hano H seriously your crazy She was with 3 other kids at least you think she's so close with her neighbours her Neighbours could be anything so a least she's a smart kid
Kindergarten I was dropped off the bus and my parents weren’t home so I sat on the porch crying 2 minutes later my parents came back from the grocery store and told me that I had a key in my backpack the whole time
The Fox I mean...my school didn't allow phones on the bus or in class but if you walk around you can see multiple people using their phones, including me lol
In my school, if you have a phone you HAVE TO turn it into the office. Then you get a pass to turn in when the bell rings. The bad thing is though, the other teachers won’t allow us to leave, so it takes us longer, making us late to get our phones. Also making our parents wait longer to pick us up.
kerryoke68 not all parents can stay behind until their kids get on the bus, but there should be 1 to stay there w/ the group of kids to make sure things like this don't happen
Exactly Mz Missy. One parent can be designated or they can all chip in to pay someone to watch them, those jobs do exist. I raised three boys and we never left them alone at a young age. In most states it's not even legal to do so. It's considered endangerment. The school not telling her for two hours is unacceptable but sadly, that is exactly what I would expect.
P Fletch that's my question, why isn't the mom at fault?! she should have waited until the bus was supposed to be there if it was a minute late then you call transportation, not going to work.
An Aspiring Artist Your kid should be your first priority. Not your job. People are disgusting these days. And the mother should have told her daughter that if there's an emergency, she should go to a neighbors house.
An Aspiring Artist it's -17 and you leave your 9 year old outside no the mother is at fault if she is pushed that tight she can't wait she needs to leave early and take her kid to school SHE is to blame her childs wellbeing is her responsibility
+Le Avocado it depends on the job, what if she were to be late and then got fired and then they could've both been homeless?not everyone is lucky enough to have a flexible schedule, she was also with other children its not like she was by herself
9 years old? My son is 9 and either myself or my wife make sure he is at school. Now put the temperature below 0 and it isn't a question... 9 is too young to be alone in weather like this.
Behind The Screams It isn't the bus driver's responsibility to protect my child. As a parent it lies on us. Personal accountability is a dying trait and I can't stand it.
she wasnt alone though. and her mother didnt know the driver wasnt gonna come. she probably has a very strict schedule. I remeber some days my mom left me home if I woke up late because my mom couldnt drop me off and get to work ontime. the times she did take me late she got in MAJOR trouble as well as nearly getting fired. Infact that was one of the reasons she lost her job.
Shy Fly I spent far too much time alone as a kid too. Times however, have changed. Technology has changed. Why not buy the kid a cheap phone and make them text you when they get to school each day? There really is no excuse for this
In my school (that was elementary im on my last year of middle school now) we arent allowed to use our phones. DPS has a policy in which we have to turn our phones in. Hell they make us go through metal detectors (thanks hispanic stereotypes) and search our bags before we go to class
One time the bus never came to any of our stops in our neighborhood so we ended up walking to the other stops to pick them up and we all ended up walking to school.
My question is, why didn't his little girl have a key to get in the house? I mean I feel bad for her, but at the same time sometimes bus drivers forget or there's an incident that prevents them from being on time to pick-up kids. The mom could have at least had a key hidden outside in case of a situation like this and she didn't trust her daughter to keep a house key on her.
tendershippingfan1 The moment couldn't have given her daughter the code? Shes 9 and should know how to use a door. If shes old enough to go to the bus stop alone shes old enough to have the code.
Kazia Thornhill And what happens when that code is spilled out at school in passing conversation? Now the house is vulnerable. It's just as easy to buy a cheap flip phone. All phones are legally required to be able to dial 911 or 411. She could have gotten help
Nia Bothwell omfg what so you people don't understand.... SHE IS LIKE 7... UHM I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT IT MAKES NO SENSE TO HAVE A KEY AT THE AGE OF 7?!
yes it does. It makes perfect sense. What if the bus breaks down and you need to get home? 9 years old is at the point where they should be able to go inside their house. Especially with the temperatures out there.
Heather Decker well shes a little girl and little kids are usually not the most responsible people, so she could loose the key and a person could find it and break into the house. But i do get where your coming from
Kenzie B ??? I know she's young but she seemed responsible enough to use a key, and if she lost it then oh well, you can get a new one. It's not like someone's gonna find a key somewhere and start shoving it into everyone's locks until it happens to work at their house and then steal everything. People I know have been given a key since the first time they've ever taken the bus. ;-;
@@jeffliang7103 SKSKSK theres a thing called "neighborhood-friend" where she can just walk to her friend's house and stay warm inside the home of her friend until her mom comes back
People! watch the video all the way before commenting please! For all those wondering why she didn't go to a neighbor, it SAYS that she tried to front and then tried the back and then she couldn't get out of her backyard! She was stuck there! Also as a nine year old I would not go to neighbors because you don't know them that well and frankly it could be a bit sketchy. That would be SUPER scary to a nine year old. She didn't have a phone or a key because she's nine and clearly an only child and you just don't really think about either of those until the child is older. The video says at the end that the other kids got rides from parents and she was the only one stuck outside. Finally, please keep in mind that this is a totally unprecedented thing and i doubt any of you would be thinking "hm maybe I should have a plan in case the bus doesn't come and it's freezing outside and I'm stuck in the backyard at the age of nine"! Just please think it through and have a little empathy!
No Way Please do shut up. I'm not trying to be hostile, but my attitude at how you approach this DESPITE the obvious annoys me. She did not expect this, nor did she plan specifically for this. Think like a child in this situation, then you might understand.
The same thing happened to me when I was little. It was below zero and I sat outside waiting for 90 minutes for the bus. I was about her age too and the bus driver skipped route. I got frost bit so badly that I couldn’t play outside during recess for the next month, which felt like punishment. I didn’t realize I was outside for that long and I was also afraid to go back home to tell my mom because I was afraid the bus would come while I walked away and I’d get in trouble. My parents tried taking legal action with the school but nothing came from it. I ended up in the hospital and everything. The bus driver didn’t even get in trouble. But at least the principal apologized to my parents. 😒
You basically just revealed all her information: face, school name+ appearance, house/area, bus stop, routine, single mother, occupation WTF
Yeah its messed up if someone wanted to they could snatch her up or rob there house now that they know at school hours nobody is home :/

The school system and towns need much more control over who they hire and background check.
emtb9111 school bus drivers don’t get in trouble at my school if they have an acceptable reason like if there’s more traffic than usual
If the driver couldn't make it that day wasn't he or she supposed to inform the kids parents?

Ikr they blame the mom more than the bus driver like
Electronic locks usually still have a key feature. She should be given a key none the less. She was told to talk to a neighbor "if it ever happened again," meaning she was told to do so ONLY after the fact and not before.
She really should have done that right away not after the fact but hindsight etc...
If she has a front & back door then she does not need two electronic locks. The child should not have a difficult time getting into her own home.
I reckon the child is a bit like most kids her age, she couldn't work out the lock and was too shy to go talk to the neighbors about helping her

My old elementary school didn’t call or even message the parent at all but I think my new middle school with call or message if I’m not there
My school, once you get to school, they do a attendance check and if you’re not there on your first period they called home right away Incase
My school did that too, but it was an electronic voice mail, they did it because they knew most parents went to work and wouldn’t be home. So they would call during dinner so you’d get in trouble from your parents if your parent didn’t call in and say you weren’t coming
I’m mostly upset that after this, they marked her as ABSENT.
I- no way. The child went missing because of lack of communication, and yet she was “absent”? That’s a terrible excuse!
They have to if the child isn't present their absent and of they did mark them there how would they prove it she wouldn't have really done any work. But i think its kinda unfair since the school knew that the school bus skipped stops and missed a few children. :/
thats what the school is supposed to do, no matter whos fault it is
absent just means not at school that day
In my school we had authorised absences for things you’d call ahead for, not after only ahead. Got into a car accident? Too bad unauthorised absence, the colleges you apply to will see this.
In my district if a student doesn't show up and a parent didn't call them in as absent, the school will call you at 9am (1 hour after school starts) i over slept one day and they called me to see if my kid was safe.

I like that determination, put a plow on the bus.

Does the school not have a morning register? Do they not have to inform parents of truant children immediately? Strange school 🤔

My school doesn’t notify. Your absent, no one cares.
The thing is, attendance is not taken immediately and a lot of the time kids are just late coming from an appointment of some sorts. And then they have to track all the parents and give them a call and then deal with their freaked out reactions.

And the fact tht she works full time is even more reason to give her a key. Hell the 2nd a kid can understand how to use a key and not swallow it and die from it, id give em a key. Even if the kid was being driven by parents to school and back home.
Yea I had a key when I was 7 years old.
I'm pretty sure the main blame goes to the bus driver who changed routes without notifying anyone but like ok
@@sneksneksnek0000 exactly. She and the other kids shouldn't have been put in that situation but in the video the principal said it took a while to note who was missing and to make phone calls.
A lot of parents don’t give their kids keys because some parents get home before their kids so they can pick them up from school, and also some parents don’t trust their kids with them because they could lose them and anyone could pick them up
Christiana Adesanya well the nobody would know what house... plus this just gave away a lot of there info so I don’t think it was that
why didn’t she go to a neighbour?
Cuz she got stuck in the backyard remember? 😥😫😖☹️😟
Helloworld 5995 i know but she jumped the fence so she could of just done that again lmao
She couldn't have. She used a trash bin to jump there. There was nothing on the other side to climb for her to jump back. Also, kids are not very logical, which is why she didn't go looking for an adult first. Her mother didn't prepare her for these situations. She has now. It was a lesson for everyone.
katie steele she was stuck in the backyard
@@freddymercury8326 I sound so mean 😥 but she used a recycle can tipped on its side and climbed over the fence but on the other side there was nothing for her to get onto that allows her to get back out this concludes that the poor girl is stuck. I'm really sorry! 😫😖😟 I sound like I'm a know-it-all 😥
if the bus doesn't get there after 30 minutes, I'm out of there.
When I was nine, I had a really cheap flip phone to text my mom and a spare house key... That's really all you need!!!!
creamy peanut butter yep!!!
creamy peanut butter so true
creamy peanut butter I still don’t have a phone and I’m 12
creamy peanut butter and you...for a snack
I don't have a phone and I'm 15...i cri. It's so awkward too cause everyone nowadays is so anti-social with their phones and instagram and snapchat, so I'm just staring at the wall until the bell rings which could be over an hr
How long was she even waiting at the bus stop, because she could've kept standing there with the other kids until one of the other kids parents picked them up and asked them for help
Kaylin Roberts they didnt know that would happen.
Clueless.....first, the amount of time she waited after the bus' expected time is stated. Second, why would the other parents pick the kids up if they too are expecting the bus to pick them up. Thirdly, expecting other parents to pick a kid up with their kids, without express permission from the parents, is ridiculous and absolutely lacking in critical thinking.
why would the parent expect the bus to pick up the kid when the parent is there because the bus didn't arrive lmfao
Misgiving it never said there were a parent there
Noomin not trying to be rude or anything, but can you not? This video has nothing to do with BTS let alone with music...it gets really annoying
I thought this was in America until I saw the Canadian flag...
Yeah, I guess 'CTV NEWS Winnipeg' didn't quite get the message through. Of course it didn't help that the description also says that CTV News is Canada's most-watched news organization.
I can see how you got lost with all those subtle clues. At least the flag helped.
Ichiwo Konnichiwa
I didn't check the description. Derp...
Sure, but all over the video it shows 'CTV NEWS Winnipeg' in the corner.
Derp
CryingComicSuffering me too
Cryon its in Winnipeg. I would know.
My momma always made sure I had a spare house key chained to my pants whenever I left for school
That's why you give your kid a key!!!!! I've been getting spare keys from my mom since I was 9 years old!!!!
Be Free yeah, I've had my key since I was 8...none of my friends have keys, they just let their doors open all day which is really dangerous...
That has nothing to do with the bus driver not coming to the bus stop, it's the school's fault not the mom's.
Be Free I'm 13 almost 14 and still don't have a key.
Be Free my house has finger print scanners and most of the houses I've been to have similar things where keys arent needed, mayb thats why she struggled
I Dun Care l-/ Have you asked for one? I just live with my mom, so whenever I came home from school, she was at work.
She didnt think to ask a neighbor?
nobody
man up, gold bond gold bond
nobody ur a human
what are you talmbout?
nobody she's only a little kid loosen up.
Cupcake she's 9, it's common sense to do that. Similar things have happened to me but instead of hiding in the backyard I used my brain.
1) Yall have given out her information, her face, and that her mom is single so you’ve put her in danger. 2) If kids are the age of 10 and being left alone (even if it’s just at the bus stop) she needs a cheap cellphone & a house key
"She coulda got snatched" uh. That can happen any day. You leave her every school day by herself at the bus stop
I didn’t get a house key or a cell phone till I was in high school. My big sister was in the same school. But she should have gone to the neighbors for help though.
She was with a group of kids
Did you even watch the video? She wasn't alone and was with a group of other kids. The likelihood of one of the other kid's parents walking them over or watching them leave is probably why she felt her daughter would be safe.
Let’s not blame her mom for needing to work. You make it sound like she abandons her child. I️ got myself ready in the morning by the time I was eight, and my parents dropped me at the bus stop and left, or I️ walked. That’s perfectly normal.
My first time snowboarding was when it was -40C and I was outside half of the day
I'm still trying to figure out why her mom who obviously is "dressed" in her government attire, which would require organizational skills, failed to make sure her daughter had a house key. Even a cell at age 9 could be considered necessary.
Lorelei Michelle they said the house has a electronic lock
Lorelei Michelle I got a phone at 13... 9??? Maybe a key, but a phone is a little early. I would be okay if she got a flip phone, to avoid addiction at a young age.
Lorelei Michelle the military requires organizational skills? LOL, obviously you know nothing of military.
Lorelei Michelle no my mom and alot of my friends dont have house keys and we are in high school
I'm 15 and don't have a house key still, and I had a tracfone at 8 that failed to keep me in contact with parents cause screw minutes. Parents live in a culture separate to us and it's unfair to claim she's a poor mother for something that isn't usual to give to a child at a age we're mentioning.
teach your kids to go to a neighbour. or make a neighbour a safe person.
Regina Winston but we can assume all we want.
there is many things that could have been done. a neighbour, maybe a phone thats programmed with only one number and no internet access. walking route taught to her to a variety store? i dont know
Sandra Dee if it was me I would group up with the 3 other kids and go to one of there houses
That or give your child a spare set of *KEYS!*
Sandra Dee You can't trust all neighbors. Some are all smiles in your face and child abusers behind your back.
Zeldurrrx3 yes but again my point is just that there is many options. that your kids need a plan.
this happened to me when i was 11 I was like 4 houses away from mine i was waiting for my bus. it was -27C without windchill and my bus never showed up i had a group of 3 kids with me and we waited for an hour.
Jennifer Blouin the bus driver deserves to be fired!
Jennifer Blouin no wonder everyone hates school
Jennifer Blouin -27 degrees Celsius, do you live in Antarctica lol
Σ(゚Д゚) Whuuuuuuuuut?! How?!
Thanks for burying the lead, “Private school bus company prefers profit over safe children.”
Not trying to be rude or anything but couldn't she just knock on a neighbors door?
Lol Lollipop did you watch the video?
Boobbo floofo oh yah whoops... still though couldn't she just yell for help?
i wouldn't
She could have yelled from the backyard tho...
Rayniely Henriquez She was 9... and in a -19° environment. It's hard to think straight when your that young and scared
I know the girl. I live in her city. I go to a school nearby. People need to calm down. She didn't go to a neighbors house because the doors were locked. I would have went to a neighbours house, but when she went into the backyard, she couldent get over the fence to get to a neighbours
House.
S V thank you, finally a reasonable comment on this video.
Thank you for having common sense.
-50 my ass, that's colder than antartica
@@Hetsu.. there has been some days where its been nearly -50 in the part of canada i live in.
S V THANK YOU FOR BEING THE SENSIBLE VOICE OF REASON & COMMON SENSE!!
I can’t imagine leaving a 9 year old without knowing 100% she made it on the bus safely. Anything could happen.
Maybe the mom wants to keep his job
if you can't get into your house go to a close friends
Marley Joon she couldn't get out of the backyard once she got back there. It's mentioned in passing.
i go alone but i dont bring keys
Marley Joon what if she didn't have a close friend around or dosent know how to get to another house? She's 9 years old.
savage47938 but their parents are still home !!
she got stuck in the backyard, she couldnt have even if she wanted.
Everyone keeps saying “neighbors” and I’m like.
“Well she’s like 7, do you really think she would know to go to a neighbor?”
She's 9. 9 year olds have common sense, believe it or not.
She is 9 but you can't trust nobody she could of asked to walk with a friend home or for a ride
@@cornondcob8069 yeah if you don't know your neighbor enough to trust them find someone else
I was just thinking why didn't she went to neighbors to call her mother or school
secret secret not that bright
Yeah I thought the same thing. Has the mother not taught her any life/important skills? The first I was taught is if anything goes wrong or I have problems to go to neighbors or call out for help. At 8 years old I would have started walked up to doors and knocking.
I assume she got stuck in the backyard after she went over the gate
Because it says that she couldn’t get back out of the back garden so how was she supposed to go to a neighbours
Stranger danger and also SHES NINE
Why tf are they going to school in this much effing snow
Welcome to Canada
that's....that's not much
if we we're to have snow days for that much snow in Canada we would basically be home for 4ish months lol
*you call that lots of snow?*
*here in canada thats nothing to me*
It's Canada
Same thing happened at my school. A bunch of kids didn't make it to school and half my class wasn't there. The school bus driver skipped a lot of stops, and most of this kids didn't know where to walk to get to school.
The kids were punished for skipping school.
Asocial_freak
Well that school is retarded
I once got into trouble for being late because there was a traffic jam, I was being driven to school by my dad and the buses were late as Well but the kids on the buses didn't get into any trouble
Wtf
wtf
*_O O F_*
Illyria Craine wow they be stupid (the school not the kids)
"just go to a neighbors house" Not everyone is going to be home just because you need them to be there. you can't just assume "oh they're at home go knock on the door" people have lives. they might have been at work too for all we know. I mean not everyones going to be at work at the same time but come on.
And not everyone is going to be at work :P
But that doesn't mean they're going to be home still, they could be out shopping, having family problems, getting a pet for all we now
also didn't I mention this already with my "I mean not everyones going to be at work at the same time but come on."
CuteClearGalaxy WHY DON'T DUCKING KIDS WALK TO THE SCHOOL!
If the school is too far away you can't just walk. Especially alone.
Rose Smith AFTER SHE WALKED TO THE BACKYARD
why didn't she go to a neighbor's house? and what happened to the kids who were waiting with her?
Did you watch the video? She was stuck in the backyard. The other kids got rescued by a parent.
She didn't go to a neighbors house because she couldn't get out of the backyard, she use a trash can to get in but there weren't other trash cans to help her get out. As for the other kids, they probably had family members that were home or doors that were unlocked
exactly!
Hano H parents picked the other kids up
Hano H seriously your crazy She was with 3 other kids at least you think she's so close with her neighbours her Neighbours could be anything so a least she's a smart kid
I can’t imagine how it would feel considering it was winter and her mom was at work pray for this child
this child doesn't have a key? welp.
wait wait wait, electronic lock? oh wtf...
I dont have a key. My mom is always there (or the door is unlocked) when I get home.
Maliyah Ayala My door has a code.
Maliyah Ayala no kids have keys dummie
Lila Mahon Lol almost all kids have keys.
Kindergarten I was dropped off the bus and my parents weren’t home so I sat on the porch crying 2 minutes later my parents came back from the grocery store and told me that I had a key in my backpack the whole time
That's why schools shouldn't ban phones.
The Fox I mean...my school didn't allow phones on the bus or in class but if you walk around you can see multiple people using their phones, including me lol
When I was that age in elementary school we couldn't have phones out they had to be back packs terned off
Steve Man You're still in elementary "terned off"😂
The Fox ikr
In my school, if you have a phone you HAVE TO turn it into the office. Then you get a pass to turn in when the bell rings. The bad thing is though, the other teachers won’t allow us to leave, so it takes us longer, making us late to get our phones. Also making our parents wait longer to pick us up.
Little girl should have gone with someone other kids or a neighbor... geez
I think it's time to rethink leaving young children ANYwhere alone, regardless of the weather.
kerryoke68 yes i agree
kerryoke68 not all parents can stay behind until their kids get on the bus, but there should be 1 to stay there w/ the group of kids to make sure things like this don't happen
You guys must be young. 40 years ago 9 years old was plenty old enough to stand at a bust stop.
LOL I'm 49.
i agree, most kids have a key to the house or know where a key is hidden to use to get inside incase this happens.
Xerin Knightwalker most kids in Dublin Ireland have keys
Twilight One is
Of course the bus driver and the school failed her but so did this parent for the wonderful backup plan for your child. Niiiice.
P Fletch that's my question, why isn't the mom at fault?! she should have waited until the bus was supposed to be there if it was a minute late then you call transportation, not going to work.
P Fletch Some parents have a *schedule* and there were other kids there. Y
Poor child. At least she's home now.
9 years old? My son is 9 and either myself or my wife make sure he is at school.
Now put the temperature below 0 and it isn't a question... 9 is too young to be alone in weather like this.
Preach.
Nia Bothwell The lock was electronic. There was no key.
tendershippingfan1 The moment couldn't have given her daughter the code?
This incident was a case of child endangerment. Honestly the driver really should be fired, not banned from driving in 1 division.
I’d honestly rather be in my backyard than go to my school SMH
Not in Winnipeg.
Or anywhere in Canada other than BC’s Lower Mainland
same, i could sit on my sofa for 10+ hours and it'd still be more interesting than my school
Could have at least given her a key for situations like this. We always had a key just in case something happened.
Heather Decker well shes a little girl and little kids are usually not the most responsible people, so she could loose the key and a person could find it and break into the house. But i do get where your coming from
Kenzie B ??? I know she's young but she seemed responsible enough to use a key, and if she lost it then oh well, you can get a new one. It's not like someone's gonna find a key somewhere and start shoving it into everyone's locks until it happens to work at their house and then steal everything. People I know have been given a key since the first time they've ever taken the bus. ;-;
Trevisk
You have any idea how expensive keys are to loose?
Deseray Patterson yeah like 5 bucks if you want to mold a key...
Trevisk
Dunno where your going but in my town its more like ten. We can't afford that.
why didnt she go to one of the neighbors?
still, poor thing. glad everything turned out alright.
Sandra Copenhaver exactly
she was cold and frozen and prob couldn't think right! And I think you cant either!!
Sandra Copenhaver the real question is why she didn't just walk TO FUDGING SCHOOL
Neo Man um school can be like 45 mins away. my school is about 30 minutes away but to walk about 2hrs
To everyone whos saying 'this is why you should give your kid a phone'. Im 17, my parents wont give me a phone until I'm in uni. The struggle is real.
Honestly I’d break a window. But that’s just me.
lol savage
I am sure the mom would understand if she did
Me too
Same here
@@jeffliang7103 SKSKSK theres a thing called "neighborhood-friend" where she can just walk to her friend's house and stay warm inside the home of her friend until her mom comes back
People! watch the video all the way before commenting please!
No Way well hooray for yourself !miss perfect
Our bus was 30minutes late once, I thought I was going to die. This shouldn’t have happened, I can only imagine how awful this would have been.
