- The family of a 6-year old boy says Cy-Fair ISD is apologizing after their son got off at the wrong bus stop. The mix-up had his mom and dad fearing the worst.

That child looks like he is prek those teachers aremsupposed to be putting those kids directly on the right bus. Mistakes like that shouldnt happen and I would pissed. 1. Whoever drove that bus should have been verifying the kids’ drop off address with those address tags on the kids. It seems like it’s either a case of neglect on job responsibilities or that driver was never told about the address tags.

I had a stupid friend (not a great mother) and I asked her twice does your kid know your home address and phone number. She of course said no. Her kid is 5. I said you need to put a note in her backpack and laminate it if she ever gets lost. Also drill it into her head what your address is. Has she done this? No. Has done nothing. Everyone needs to do things to ensure safety. The teacher who did the address sticker is smart.

The same thing happened to my son. An angel saw him standing at the bus stop over 10 min and asked him if he was waiting for someone and he said no. He had no clue where he was and thank God this honest lady saw him and called the school. I cry every time I think about it. It’s been over 20 years and I’m still thankful. I never had the opportunity to meet the mom and thank her. ♥️ our children are a blessing.
This kinda happen to my youngest little brother when was in kindergarten. Only he got on the wrong bus coming home. We use to have to one school than another to get the bus coming home. My mom was in panic mode when she saw only me and my other brother. My mom immediately called the school to report that her youngest son didn't come home. My school had immediately took action they reported to ever busses and schools. Finally a different school had reported there was a kid they didn't realize. My school immediately called my mom reporting they had found her son. They also told her what had happened. And that a teacher will bring him home. My mom was so grateful for that teacher driving my little brother home. She just couldn't believe this has happen.

The sad thing is in this day and age guys (including me) would be very careful in helping. I’d either call the cops or if I didn’t have a phone, may opt not to do anything. Imagine a guy taking a kid and being seen out of context. Not worth the risk.

I was out in the street walking my dog when a young boy (about 8 years old) was crying. He got off at the wrong stop. He asked me if I could take him home. So the dog, boy, and I drove to his home, and I waited to make sure he got inside. He had just moved and was confused. It breaks your heart when you see how upset and scared they are. I'm so glad that I was there.

Statistically you'd have to leave your child unattended for 30,000 hours before a predator is likely to kidnap them. But with the internet and news sensationalism now it puts irrational fear in people. Before internet parents let their kids run the neighborhoods all day long without parental supervision and kids were not being kidnapped

I know his parents had the stranger danger talk with him bc we drilled it into our child at a young age and he didn't see us at the bus stop (we were *behind* the bus) and my son was maybe 1yr older and he'd shot off like a cannon, running for his life to our house. Us honking at him and chasing him down prolly freaked him out even more for a brief second before realizing it was his mom and grandma, not abductors.

I feel like so many schools do this (lack accountability)... so frustrating... the worst part is knowing it will happen again if they don’t take this seriously.
It's not the schools fault. The schools job is to get the kids ON the bus, not off it.
@@bremCZ each child remains the school’s responsibility until the child reaches their house safely and securely. if the child does not reach their house, or the right house for that matter, that is the fault of the bus driver, who works for the school.

Which is funny because when I got into a fight in high school after we got off of the bus, the school said we are their responsibility from when we get off of the bus until we get home. It seems they use different excuses to suit their narrative.

The sad thing in todays world is that as a man I found a crying child who couldn't find his mum and I had to ask him to wait there as I went over to my mums house to have here help me so I wouldn't be accused of anything (grown man with a crying child he doesn't know is not a good look). A little girl lost her mom. She was nervously searching around for her and I was the ONLY one who took notice. Once I started asking her questions and got her talking, THEN the other women in the area started to pay attention. One of them found her mom on the other side of the store. After the two were reunited one of the women said to me that we all must have felt the need to do it because we're mothers. The thing is, I am actually not a mother. The truth is that the majority of them did not notice or care about her walking around for a good three or four minutes alone looking very concerned to the point of near tears. The only reason I took so long to help the girl is because I wasn't sure of what the boundaries were in this country (USA) with respect to strangers approaching children who are in need. In the end, I figured uncovering the source of her panic was probably more important than me breaking social taboos.
The reality was that I was the first one to approach her and ask her if she was lost, not any of the numerous middle aged women (some of whom were undoubtedly mothers). Whether or not she is a mother, the woman in this video did a great job and I hope that she and the boy's family are able to meet up one day.
It's good to know there are people in this world that are thoughtful.
-The loving family that searched for their kid
-The teacher that puts the kid's address on their backpack, in case he got lost

My bus driver would always wait for kids to enter the house before pulling off. I thought it was protocol. I guess he was simply a good person.
My bus stop was no where near my house. There was 20 of us at one stop so the driver never saw anyone get inside. All depends on the area I guess.

I guess in big cities it is much different than the small towns I grew up in. Our entire school started and stopped at the same time. So, it was just one bus trip for all the kids. Big cities have so many schools that start at different times so the bus drivers finish one route and go start another. So, they have hundreds of kids to keep track of. I imagine it is easier to lose a kid in that situation.

This happened to my family at an amusement park. Some kid got lost and couldn’t find his parents. We took him to security and security said themselves that we cared about this kid more than his parents did

That's ashame. If the school and bus drivers wood look past their stubbornness to pay attention to the children for once, we wouldn't be having all of these issues. RIGHT?! One, the driver should have noticed him getting off at the wrong stop and two, when his parents called, they should've been making phone calls and sending people out to look for him as well! @@blacksheep7055 To be fair, it also the parent job to make sure their kid get off sat the correct stop. My mom made sure it was me (10), my sister (8), and my other sister (5) was all together on the bus so I could watch them both and make sure they get off the right stop. If a kid is 6 year old, you shouldn't let them ride the bus alone, it just not safe. Either you take them to school or have an older sibling with them on the bus. Little kid don't know any better.

(unless they give him a sheet with name and faces and stop number) cuz he don't know half those kid. He just doing his job. A parent is suppose to teach/identify the stops with their kid but once that kid enters a bus or school building, their safety and getting back to their designated drop off stop is the school and transportation responsibility. They dropped the ball.
As a first grader I’ve taken the wrong bus to school before. I knew I was at the wrong school, just watching students slowly go to their classes as the crowd got smaller and smaller. There was another student there, an asian girl who was obviously older than me asking if u need help, told her I was at the wrong school, took me to the office. Didn’t know my address, home number but thank god a staff that works at my school was there, she was kind enough to drop me off.
Til this day (33 years old) I regret not asking for the girl’s name and not remembering the lady’s name.
Something I will never forget and thankful for.

I got lost after crashing and getting separated from my parents and friends at a ski resort when I was around 8. Strangers skied down with me to the bottom lift and eventually caught up with my parents. Thankfully there are still plenty of good people in this world.

There was a case in the UK, in the early 1990's the school girlmade some error but eventually caught another bus to get back. Unfortunately, the next bus was driven by a paedophile who locked her in and she was never seen again. It was a regular city bus, could happen to anyone. Also, my neighbour was a bus driver and he left suddenly to go back to Turkey. Afterwards, from the post, we realised he had lost his job and was being sent court summons for exposing himself to kids.

This reminds me of an incident back in the early 1990s when I was walking out to my car after a visit to a mall.
Some kid (looked like he was about 7 or 8) ran up to me at the parking lot and said, "Mr, I can't find my dad. Please help me."
I was 21 and had no experience dealing with kids but my instinct kicked in.
I immediately told him, "Let's go back into the Mall to tell security."
As we walked back towards the Mall, his dad came out and called his name.
He ran to his dad and I waved at his dad to indicate "OK, you got him now."
That incident scared me because 1) if that kid had approached the wrong guy, he would've been kidnapped!
2) I could've been falsely accused of kidnapping. Luckily, I took him BACK INTO the Mall and not away.
So glad he made it safely. This is what all adults should do! We need to support and take care of little ones. I was in a similar situation at a summer camp on a college campus and was shocked when no adults were concerned when a lost girl was asking for help finding her camp and dorm. I stepped in and made sure she was reunited safely with her group. Don't be the person who just ignores- act🙏.

This actually happened to me as a kid. I was around 5 and got off at the wrong bus stop. Luckily we lived in a pretty closed off neighborhood and a lady happened to be driving a golfcart around the block. Picked me up asked my name and just happened to know my grandmother so she dropped me off there. Really awesome to see people still doing this.
This sweet lady is certainly a hero. Losing a child is every parent’s worst nightmare.

How can they control where he gets off ? That is where things went wrong. Maybe the family can rehearse the ride to school and back home WITH him until he knows it cold. Can the bus driver remind him when it's time to get off ? A boy of his age is not going to do things perfectly every time.

@@The9AcesFamily not all schools. Home address is considered private information and is FERPA protected. Our bus drivers for my school district carry a list with student address. I do not work for the same district that this child attends. Thankfully this lady helped out and the child got home safely. All parents should make sure their kids carry a paper with home address/phone numbers in their school bag and pinned to the inside of their clothing for the first few weeks of school. You can also label your child's outside clothing with bus stop information so the driver can see it. I label my students' bus stops with masking tape on their clothing the first 2 weeks of school.

I'm so glad this sweet boy got home safe. My husband and I had a scare at our child's elementary school before and that feeling of hopelessness in my stomach isn't something I'd wish on my worst enemy.
When I was about his age I got lost and a man closing his grocery store noticed me. He took me back inside his store and set me on the counter. Gave me a moon pie and an R.C. cola. Called the police and I knew my address. I have often thought of that man. God bless him.That was in 60' or 62'

Nah, she's not freezing. This is deep in southeast Texas & the average November low is in the 50s. Besides, Ms. Melissa has a big heart keeping her warm. Her sparkle really comes across, too...bet she's a great friend.

@@bigpeenerpeen Maybe at least have some kind of tracking system in place so they know what stop each kid gets off at each day. These aren't highschoolers who know how to take care of themselves, they're little kids. Bus drivers are supposed to pay attention to make sure kids get off at the correct stop. Obviously the bus driver screwed up and the school is covering for him/her to try and avoid a lawsuit.

It clearly shows the lack of accountability and responsibility of the school's part / bus driver to do due diligence. As adults they need to anticipate for these situations. Have a list of all of the kids riding a specific bus route and their home addresses. Check off each kid as they get off.

As a 90’s kid, stranger danger was drilled into us SO much, I’ve wondered how kids in this kind of situation could seek/feel safe receiving help. Thank goodness this child felt safe and confident enough to accept help, and double-thanks that this lady was “one of the good ones”!

They always will you know why? because they don't want to get sued. Schools these days can get sued for a large amount of money. It depends on the situation like child abuse or crazy teachers that do stuff with students. Teachers have been sued before but not the school. When I was 4, I got lost in San Francisco. I was bawling, when An old women picked me up off the ground and hugged me. She took me to a police officer inside a nearby bank. 5 hours later my parents found me but she was gone. Never got to thank her gentle kindness-

It's likely but I had a similar situation last year. I'm not a mom (yet, but I'm hopeful) but I am an aunt and I helped raise one of my little cousins. I think it's human nature to be protective of children. At least if you are a normal human anyway. I'm just happy this little one made it home safe ❤.

You don't have to be a mom to sympathize.
Good people have empathy for others, and they can imagine what the boy must have felt like to be running so scared...and how the parents must feel knowing their boy is missing. You don't need to be a parent to imagine that.
Empathy is putting yourself in someone else's shoes or at least trying to imagine things from their perspective.
Good people will help a child. In fact, if someone won't help a child...any child...they are not a decent human being.

Bless this woman. A lot of people walk around like they’re alone in the world. I’ve lived both in London and Berlin and both are big cities with lots of people. In both cities I’ve had incidents of children that lost their parents in the crowd and sadly I seemed to be the only one noticing even though loads of people were around. In London, it was a girl who was visiting with her parents. She couldn’t speak the language, luckily I spoke hers and was able to console her and get her back to her parents who’d already informed the police. In berlin, it was a toddler who was about to run into a busy road and not a single person seemed to care that he was on his own. I was on my way home from work and saw him and quickly grabbed him. He’d escaped from the nearby playground and his mom was there with several kids so it probably only took a moment of not looking. I didn’t blame her because I ran off more than once when I was a kid. It can happen to any stressed out mum, but what I find shocking is how people just don’t care about their environment and rather look at their phone even when out and about. Please be watchful, you might need someone watching out for you one day too. 🙏
Yes, people are definitely walking around like zombies in their own head. I work at a shopping centre, and you always see young children on their own. I even saw a toddler running towards the escalator and stopped him and called security. In most cases I've been the only person aware that these kids are alone and need help.
Back in the 90s in the UK a little boy named James Bulger was lured away from his mum by two young boys who brutally tortured and killed him. Dozens of people stopped them to ask what was wrong with the crying boy, where they were taking him? The boys alternately said he was their brother they were taking home to mum or a lost child they were taking to police station. Nobody thought twice. Who would? Monstrous what they did to him. They even knew to put the body on the tracks to try to make it look like an accident.
I guess my point is, even when people cared, it can still happen. If two 8yo's can do it, think of how easy it is for one of the animals who prey on children. You are correct that while we are more aware of these things, we are so preoccupied in our travels the sound of a crying might draw no attention at all.

And I do often stop and observe when a child is crying and is with an adult to see if there are any suspicious signs. It's a difficult one. you could be witnessing a crime and you are none the wiser.

On the other hand, my 3yo has some difficulties communicating verbally and one of her main panic words is, "HELP!" at the top of her lungs...which is mortifying when you have to stand in check out yelling "Daddy's just taking you to the car, relax!" because she's overwhelmed in a crowd and has to be taken outside (but not without mummy is the problem lol) and it feels like *everyone* is watching to see if the tall man is trying to kidnap the little girl or not xD
As an aside, I really do feel bad for one of them. I bet it haunts him to this day what he did...it's that other one, that keeps exposing himself and getting caught with child porn that needs to get locked back up. In general population, no special treatment.

I do agree we need to show appreciation for those who do good. It not only reinforces their behavior, but holds it up as a standard for others to live up to. Good triumphs through an endless line of small steps.
I find it sad this woman’s actions are deserving of being singled out - which in no way detracts from my appreciation of her. Instead it magnifies her importance not only for what she did for this child and his family, but for what her example does for society at large.
As for Africa, I think you may be oversimplifying AND underestimating scale. We could be doing more, but also important to recognize all that we are already doing. Positive reinforcement of good behavior tends to be more effective than criticism or punishment.

To us this seems like normal behavior you would expect from any decent human being. Depends a bit on where you are in some places “normal” is a rarity. I find it sad that this behavior needs to be called out, but that does not detract from the “goodness” of her behavior.

Way back in 1984 I exited work at 11PM and as I arrived on the street I heard crying.
It was a little girl, standing at the top of a concrete walkup at the rear of a nightclub.
As it was a rear door it had locked behind her.
When I got to her I sat down on the top steps and soothed her with words, put my shirt over her shoulders (it was cold) and waited.
About ten minutes went by before her father came out , in a panic, looking for his baby.
I had to ask the man to get my shirt back, and not even a thank you from dad.
But that is OK. My Lord God saw it all.

@@gummibears211 i mean, it would be the transportations fault, the bus driver specifically. The teacher made sure he got on the right bus and that's all they know. Transportation would be able to look at the cams to see where he was dropped off, which they did
@Billy Joel they know how many kids get off and on at certain stops and they have the names of the kids. On the first day of school they should be aware that little kids do not know when to get off. If the bus driver was paying attention they would have known to many or to little kids got off.
@Billy Joel the kid also had his address on his shirt just in case something like that happened. It isn't the parents fault the bus driver didn't care to at least count heads and it isnt the child's fault because he is a child and didn't know.

He never got on the right bus in the first place and their regular driver said he was never on the bus in the first place. When boarding school buses, it is the teacher's job to assure that each kid is on the right bus.

That’s why it’s very important for kids to know their address at a very young age. My 3 year old nephew even knows where he lives! It’s so frustrating when 5th graders and even some middle schoolers do not know their home address. That stranger definitely deserves lots of credit!

I know, it seems like they didn't feel it was an urgent matter. I would think that under these circumstances, a school staff member (or school district staff person) would immediately drive the route of the bus and look for Colton. They seemed so blasé about it, like it was no big deal. (And then tried to make it sound like they helped him!)
But if he were white it’d be a completely different story.
This happened to me when I was a kid, but luckily I didn’t get off the bus. The next day the school assured my mother that they would personally escort me to the correct bus. They put me on the wrong bus again....

Unfortunately this is a common occurrence. Happened to my neighbor a few houses down from me. Luckily since most people know each other here, a neighbor walked him back to our street, but the initial panic when the bus came and her kid was missing was terrifying.

That happened to me too in Italy. The train arrived just after the last connection left to cross the border (they said it would be held back but it wasn't) and this lady drove me 50km to Nice in France. The station was full of very dubious people, she was an angel really.

I got lost on my way home from school when I was in first grade and I’ll never forget all of the people who stopped to help me! A mom with 3 kids under 4 walked me home then a group of middle school girls got me back to my school when the door was locked and I didn’t have a key!

When my son was 4 yr. old my family was shopping in a "box" store and realized he was not with us. Thank God a store clerk found him and announced on the speaker.system where we could come to get him! I was always so grateful for this Samaritan who took care of my son! Since then, I have been able to help a few little ones myself! Three times when shopping in "box" stores again, I came across young children panicking when they were separated from their parents. I told each one that his mother would come back for him, but that I would wait there with him until his mother arrived. The relief on these little ones' faces was priceless to me! And, of course the mothers always backtracked and found us.

.....which makes me ponder the sort of life we're leading these days, when a kid gets off the bus at the wrong stop and that makes hell break loose with everybody in anguish thinking the kid will get abducted by some weirdo or psycho....Long gone are the days when we kids could go wandering anywhere in town without anyone attempting to do any harm to us....That was a decent society and a decent life to be lived.
I just realized that’s something that I should do for my son when he starts kindergarten next year. Inside the backpack. And teach him to know his home address and/or my phone number. That’s so scary!
@@orlandonavarro5674 I think it also depends on how large your city or town is. When I was a kid my bus drive was 40-45 mins long AFTER all the kids were picked up. And I was one of the last one on and first off. Getting dropped off at the wrong stop could mean I was a 2 hour walk away from a place of familiarity
