Great video, Sir. Thank you for posting. For most of us, our "Star Trek Experience" was in front of the small screen every Saturday night traveling the galaxy with the greatest crew StarFleet had to offer, never walking the decks or enjoying the immersive attraction in Las Vegas, and while I'm sure that was incredible, seeing this behind-the-scenes peak of how the sausage is made brings into perspective how many hands were involved in bringing some of the best entertainment ever produced to life. It's also evident that it wasn't all sunshine and butterflies, so again; THANK YOU for your great work then and now.
Thank you for the kind words! Even though it’s a lot of hard work. And as you say, not always sunshine and roses, I’m glad to have had a little hand in creating joy for so many.
When you see this, really make you appreciate the hardwork that really goes into these scenes... And I'm guessing whilst there doing these scenes, other scenes somewhere else are also being done. Quite eye opening to see this reality behind the show
A lot of work for sure! This a bit different than the show, however. Had to be much more exacting as it had to work in sync with the live action on the other side of the bridge screen.
Thank you for posting this video! I miss Star Trek: The Experience so much and this brings back a lot of great memories. I wish Las Vegas would bring it back like they claimed they would. I need another of the pizzas from Quarks.
I am from the UK. So very sad that "The Experience" was closed before I even knew it existed! Had I known, I would have sold anything I own to finance a trip to visit it! I don't imagine I'm alone in this regard. Makes me wonder why they didn't place ads in the breaks in UK reruns of Next-Gen to promote it. Seems like not much thought went into how to make it a lasting attraction and I read that when the hotel wanted their space (no pun intended) back it was just too expensive to move it all. There's a lesson there somewhere. If there was any whisper of it being re-done somewhere I'd be packing my bags right now.
Last few seconds of this clip (library books part) gave me vibes of the Frame of Mind episode (Riker in psych institution yelling) and just going off yelling in his distressed emergency command voice
Really impressing, the set looks nothing at all like the vessel enterprise and I'm admiring the patience with which they repeatedly play the scenes over and over again. Great job!
All the practical shuttle sets they had to hand and they cobble together that monstrosity of a thing. LOL It's awesome to see the process though. I never got to visit the Star Trek Experience, but seen so many videos and pictures of it.
running a camera was fun. this is how it is. changes retakes mistakes conversations headset instructions you cant respond to.. but truely fun & worth it.
God, I fucking love stuff like this. I almost can't get enough B-roll or BTS, especially uncut stuff like the Buffy BTS which was released raw for the fight choreography.
This is fantastic. How did you come across this video? I had a friend who lived in Vegas and we visited this attraction several times. It was absolutely spectacular to be fully immersed in the Star Trek universe. The Borg Encounter was fun, but it completely dropped the premise of transporting you to the future and it wasn't as good for this reason. It felt like a haunted house add-on, which is really what it was, and not a self-contained attraction like "Klingon Encounter" was. The brilliance of Klingon Encounter was how it subverted your expectations. The initial queue was clearly modeled after Star Tours at Disneyland, so if you had been on that ride you thought you knew what you were in for... Then you get beamed onto the Enterprise! I can't explain what a mind blowing experience that was. Then when the simulator ride comes at the end, you get a panoramic view out of the shuttle craft with windows in the ceiling, not just the little movie screen you get on Star Tours. The ride engineers clearly knew what they were doing, subverting expectations all along the way
Jonathan Frakes seems like such a lovely person 🥰 I bet he gives good hugs hehe 😊 And Levar looking like a cutie pie in his overalls 😂 I’m so sad that I’m late to the Star Trek fandom and missed seeing this 😭😭😭

Thanks for this candid look "behind the camera." While I never got to experience the attraction in Vegas, I did get to work on the audio for a local student film project. What was shown in this video was a dead on representation of my first (and so far only) on set experience. I would have liked to have kept going, but my local area does not attract commercial cinema productions.

My wife and I went there several times. I think our first time was within a couple of months of the opening. I don't remember what we ordered at Quark's Bar but we must have had some kind of meat since we had a steak knife along with the other utensils. At the end we quietly asked our server if they would care if we walked off with the knife and they kind of quietly said "Nobody else bothers to ask so go ahead." and even brought us a single place setting along with a menu. This was really great...I've been a Star Trek fan since TOS and actually lived in Vegas when this opened. I have been through the Star Trek experience many time so this was alot of fun watching. Thanks for adding!
Glad you enjoyed!
@@devosentertainment I did a quick review of your background and see that you also directed the Star Wars exhibit and ride in Orlando? That was far and away the best experience my family ever had. I'll never forget C3PO flying us all over the place and the exhilaration and excitement on my kids faces made the vacation for us. Its incredible what you and your industry has been able to achieve. Just wanted you to know.
I remember watching the promo for The Experience in my VHS copy of First Contact back in the late 90s. I'm still bitter I never actually experienced it firsthand before it closed, especially after seeing photos/videos of it over the years, including this sim ride and the later Borg Invasion 4D attraction.
That said, looks like you and the team did a spectacular job! Thanks for uploading these behind-the-scenes glimpses. It's so cool to see these as a Trekkie and a filmmaker.
Glad you can at least live vicariously for a bit! Sorry you never got to experience it. I was a truly special attraction.
While I was on Rise of the Resistance at Disney World all I could think of was this!
Right??
Trek needs its own permanent attraction again. I was lucky enough to see this in 1999. The only time I ever got to go somewhere other than home for Spring Break in college.
This footage is Priceless.
😎
This was the only reason I used to go to Vegas. 🖖
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@devosentertainment I miss it. I got to sit in the captain’s chair and be apart of something I’ve always want to be in since I was 5. Star Trek is why I went to film school and do production design. 🖖
Nice to see it done properly. Attention to detail is everything.
Thank you! I agree.
Glad you enjoyed! And yes, happy to share that pizza w you!
What is that experience your talking about?
@@MR-vj8dn An attraction in Vegas. See the video description for details.
I wish I could transport you back to 1987!
I remember that dude...! I saw THE FIFTH ELEMENT at the Cinerama with him...
I remember that!
Last few seconds of this clip (library books part) gave me vibes of the Frame of Mind episode (Riker in psych institution yelling) and just going off yelling in his distressed emergency command voice
Ha. Totally.
Really impressing, the set looks nothing at all like the vessel enterprise and I'm admiring the patience with which they repeatedly play the scenes over and over again. Great job!
Movie magic!
All the practical shuttle sets they had to hand and they cobble together that monstrosity of a thing. LOL
It's awesome to see the process though.
I never got to visit the Star Trek Experience, but seen so many videos and pictures of it.
It was a chore for sure. Herman Zimmerman was the best.
So much work to record a simple scene. I can't even imagine recording one episode. "Engage !" 🎉🎉❤
So. Much. Work.
Levar looks so damned young here, almost like a kid!
The overalls help the look. :)
running a camera was fun. this is how it is. changes retakes mistakes conversations headset instructions you cant respond to.. but truely fun & worth it.
The life we chose! 😎👍
God, I fucking love stuff like this. I almost can't get enough B-roll or BTS, especially uncut stuff like the Buffy BTS which was released raw for the fight choreography.
😎
"I'm Riker! I've been Riker for years!... until Rob McNeill came along." Excellent.
Haha
One shot, so many takes, my god how do actors stay sane?
I wonder how any of us stay sane
@@devosentertainment ...do we...? ;)
The ride engineers clearly knew what they were doing, subverting expectations all along the way
So glad you enjoyed the Experience. I’m the director in the video.
At the same time, Paramount was readying production for Star Trek: IX.
It was a busy time!
As many times as I've been to Vegas , I knew nothing about this. wow
It was a golden era
This is cool... thanks for posting this...
My pleasure. Glad you enjoyed.
"So I'm just over here doin' shit?" Yes, Lavar, that's pretty much the essence of your character.
Hahaha
Man I wish this existed for Kavok's VHS board game. Experience Bij
Indeed
Whole new appreciation for the actors !!! What a PAIN in the ass !!!!
I saw ST Experience in Vegas in 1999 or 2000. Really well-done effects!
Glad you saw it!
love to see star trek voyager behind the scenes
I’ll see what I can find
Wow. 1AD Jerry Fleck ! Best 1AD ever . My favorite of all time for sure
Loved Jerry!
Jonathan Frakes seems like such a lovely person 🥰 I bet he gives good hugs hehe 😊 And Levar looking like a cutie pie in his overalls 😂
I’m so sad that I’m late to the Star Trek fandom and missed seeing this 😭😭😭
🖖🏻😎
Thank you David for uploading this. I’m a big fan of TNG and enjoyed this thoroughly.
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed.
Only visited once while it was in operation, stil remember that speech by Mr. Frakes.
Cool!
Did the ride in 02. Cool to see this
Glad you enjoyed!
Fingers crossed the Intakes guy is able to do something with these. Especially the voiceover audio. 😅
I was editing it all anyway. Worked out great!
@@devosentertainment I am referring to the TH-cam channel 'Ryan's Edits' where he takes Star Trek bloopers and inserts them into the actual scenes. He calls them 'Intakes' instead of 'Outtakes' -- Quite funny!
@@alextirrellRI Oh, got it. Funny. I’ll check it out.
We just press play, but look at all the effort behind it all.. I had no idea it was this intense if you add the actual shoots and reshoots for just a simple scene that's over in the blink of an eye.
A lot of work for sure!
Very cool Dave!! thanks for sharing this
Glad you enjoyed!
Was so happy I got to go b4 they shut it down , such a great experience loads of fun
Glad you got to experience it!
That’s a tense set!!!
Yep
Thanks Dave I did the experience in Vegas and it is one of the coolest moments I my life, And I miss quarks bar.
I’m glad you got to experience it!
It's fascinating that by this was filmed Star Trek: First Contact (The Enterprise-E) had already been out, but here Jonathan Frakes and LeVar Burton flashed back a few years to the days of the Enterprise-D! Great footage though
Time warp for all of us
I’ve done acting in the past. I just didn’t have the patience and mental discipline for multiple takes for the same scene. Respect for those that do.
It takes a certain patience for sure
Thanks very much for posting these, Dave!
😎👍
Did not expect jokes about Shatner's "hair". lol
This is really cool.
Haha
I recently helped backstage on a elaborate fan-made Trek set.. and I can smell and hear all that plywood from here 😂
Very cool. Was it a fan short? Would love to see it.
@@devosentertainment “Starship Farragut” They’ve gone from TOS to TWoK era over 2 decades now. Certainly a labor of love. 🖖🏽
Looks like they built part of the threshold shuttle. Voyager got away with not having new full scale shuttlecraft props.
Just enough to create the illusion!
Wow. I just now found out about this experience and I’m sad to have not known this earlier. I would have loved to have gone to Vegas to go through this experience. I wish they would bring this back again or at least move it to Hollywood or in another location in SoCal
Sorry you weren’t able to experience it. Hopefully someday something even better will arise! We sure had fun building it.
@@devosentertainment I live in Los Angeles so I had no idea about the experience so it’s not your fault. Hopefully there will be another of these in the future whether in Vegas or SoCal
Amazing, thanks for sharing, as a huge fan I enjoyed si much this series
😎👍
Even in overalls, Levar Burton is a smokeshow
😎
I really liked Star Trek the Experience, I went a couple of times to Las Vegas besides the fun of the casinos, there was this Star Trek ride at the old Hilton Hotel Could buy some Starfleet uniforms it was sad to see this go The Enterprise A & D models hung on the ceiling were amazing! The 1990 was a good time for Star Trek Jonathan Frakes (Riker) always a professional
Those models were a marvel in and of themselves.
Brilliant just brilliant thank you so much for sharing this
My pleasure!
Set life is pretty much the same wherever you are. Hope you get another chance if you enjoy it!
my buddy Brad working the slate. thank you for this.
Awesome!
@@devosentertainmentI met Brad in Santa Barbara when I was going to Brooks institute of photography. When he moved to LA I came for a visit and got a nice tour of the Star Trek sets.
Thank you for uploading this…🎥📸
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is old and lovely, way cool.
Glad you enjoyed!
Old? You're funny. When you get pubic hair and move out of mommy's house you'll eventually realise that things which happened before you were alive really aren't old.
Thanks for this, great insight
My pleasure
My wife and I went there several times. I think our first time was within a couple of months of the opening. I don't remember what we ordered at Quark's Bar but we must have had some kind of meat since we had a steak knife along with the other utensils. At the end we quietly asked our server if they would care if we walked off with the knife and they kind of quietly said "Nobody else bothers to ask so go ahead." and even brought us a single place setting along with a menu. Unfortunately we gave the stuff to a friend of the wife who's really into ST and it immediately disappeared into the black hole that is the woman's house. I wonder if she even still has it. I've looked and looked and can't find the steak knife online anywhere.
A lost treasure to be sure
Great video. Title of this is perfect. Don’t change a thing!
Thanks!
I travel for work to Las Vegas and while the Experience was open always stayed at the hotel. Would ride three times in a row after a libation or two. Fun times!
@@MrBobisadog Always good after a libation or two! :)
