- On this video I show you how to replace rusted rocker panels and cab corners on a 1999 to 2007 Chevrolet or GMC truck , using aftermarket OEM style parts, and show you the difference between quality replacement panels, and cheap slip on style panels.

Hi John, just saw this video in time as I’m about to start a little resto on my 1995 dodge. Great attention to detail. I wished you lived closer for sure.
Fantastic work I am a GM guy and that’s the cleanest truck I’ve seen I have an 05 myself one owner belong to my grandfather currently rebuilding her admire your work and experience thank you for sharing your work
Thank you 👊🏼
Thanks John. Keep the rocker videos coming. Doesn't bother me. I'm in Quebec so this is a normal thing as well.
I imagine you beat us in the rapid rate of rust there in Quebec 😉
You do good work. I can't even tell where you repaired it.
Your rocker videos are great John….keep them coming. I start my Silverado this weekend and have watched every one of your videos. Thanks for your time!
Thank you! Best of luck with the project 👊🏼
I never thought I would ever be interested in tanks but I love watching your tank videos Graham.
Also, I just wanted to say again the attention and care you take as well as the pride in your work is excellent. This type of work is expensive and not everyone can afford to get it done it just is what it is but to have this done by someone who cares the way you do by going the extra mile like coating the inside panels spraying the oil and painting the chasis it definitely makes it easier to spend the money. To bad there aren't many pros. Like you left.
Thank, I appreciate the kind words. I think being an average working stiff I try my best to make my repairs last as long as possible, as well as being 50, I still have to do this for 35 more years before I can retire 😁
Good video John, quite a bit different info on this video than the previous rocker videos. Always nice to see these applications done on different vehicles. This type of work is so.ething a person with a little bit of know how and some tools could do at home. And it is a very common problem.
Love to see it man, been watching all of your videos I think body work is awesome to transform a rotten piece of metal into a masterpiece. Keep it up!
Thanks, glad you enjoy the videos 👊🏼
2nd owner of my 05 LLY duramax ive had it since '08 and has been the best truck ive ever owned...drivers side started rusting but passenger side was perfect for about another year then started rusting real fast
I truly believe they’re engineered to rust through in about 10 years
That infrared heat that you have is very nice. We had that in our old shop. You can buy a low temp thermostat and replace the thermostat that you have. And turn it down to say 40° and it'll still keep it warmer in there and using less fuel. Use more fuel of course in the morning when you turn it up and has to run for a long time. Just a little tip. We did that. Make sure we had a car or truck or some metal underneath those infrared heaters so that's soak up the heat.
Good advice, thanks!!! When I had it installed they put in fancy programmable thermostats which I still can’t use properly 🥴
The drivers side rockers seem to be the worst here in NL too. I always figured it was because cars pass on the drivers side going the opposite way kicking up crap on each car.
Yep, I agree. Vehicles here are always far more rock chipped on the driver side as well from our winter roads
Well you explained it a whole lot of what you were going to do and I know you’ve done rockers before but still watch these type videos to see the work also not just talking
Noted. Always trying to improve the videos, and appreciate the feedback 👍🏼👍🏼
nicely done sir, a guy always appreciates the little extras. Thx for the video!
Thank you 👊🏼
I use Fluid Film to spray inside my rockers and else where . Seeing the price of Fluid Film these days I am thinking of switching to thick chain saw bar oil. or the thin stuff, maybe have to try both to see what works the best. Not a fan of used oil but it does work. Good job on that nice truck!
Great job👍 thank you for sharing the information.
I too am no expert , but i see nothing wrong with your work !!
Looked great !!
Nice job on the truck there John. Since I've been watching your channel I've really enjoyed and learned alot. Ive got an 02GMC Sierra and an 01 chevy parts truck. My wife give me a good idea since we can't seem to sale or even give the truck away, she give me the idea to pull all suspension and axles off parts truck and put on GMC, will be a job but I believe I can do it. My GMC has a bit of wiring issues to get done, but again with some time I believe it can get done. My truck is sMe Pewter Gold as the one in the video. The parts truck is the 1500 HD model, who in tuen needs a heart implant but not enough dough to replace it with so that is why we doing the axle and suspension upgrades for the GMC. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND GOD BLESS
Good luck with the project, glad you enjoy the videos!!
that is totally the right way. only way to do it. its hard to stop that rust in the midwest states. your best chance is to get all of the rust out and get the clean metal in. then treat it behind. im about to be doing that same job on a 2010 silverado. rockers are different. often i will try to make my own sections if its not that bad not replace the whole rocker
100 percent right way to do it.
I just subscribed... awesome work! I find your videos very educational..
Thanks, super glad you find them helpful 👊🏼
Your videos are pretty good. Well explained. 👍
I appreciate that!
*_Thanks from NS!_*
Thank you too!
Hi John , is me , or is this not a very good paint match ...Not like you . Another excellent rocker replacement.
Yep, this one was a little off, tough on some of these light metallics to do something like the fuel door right in the middle of the panel
Theres like 14 differeny shades of silver birch 2 stage paint mixes
Just in time I have to put them in my 04 GMC extended cab 4x4
Nice, hopefully the video is helpful 👊🏼
John the next time you do a job like this I know you talked about that foam glue what ever that junk is in there about how you make sure you take it out, the next time show the people just how flammable it is by just letting the sparks from welding fall on it and watch how fast it catches fire ! And also mention that clean oil will not stick in side panels it has to be used or dirty used oil to save from rust ?
That’s a good idea, I should make a pile of that foam insulation to show how it goes up like a flamethrower 😉, educational and fun 😂
Outstanding work. Any chance you’d do corners and inner/outer rockers on a 2012 F150 screw?
I’ve done cab corners on several, but haven’t had one come in for rockers yet. I’ll definitely make a video when I do.
Bravo
Hey John, love your videos. Had one question. What process are you using to remove the shipping primer on the rockers?
I just use 100 grit on a 6” orbital 👍🏼
@@Johnnymidnight very appreciated! Thank you.
Nice
Great tutorial. Where do you buy the rocker panels at?
I deal directly with LKQ Canada, but any auto parts store should be able to get them
Love your video, approximately how many ours got to get my 06 2500hd extended cab done
They typically end up being $4500-5000 to do rockers and cab corners
Thank you
What if you can't get rocket panels? For example, 2002 Grand Prix. Or Grand Am
I’ve done similar where I’ve had the basic shape bent, but you need to know someone with a 6 or 8 foot brake. Having to make panels is a heck of a lot more work
I'm no expert but it looked like the gas lid and cab corner were a different color of the same color as the truck, they looked a lot darker. Is that something that can't be helped or something that just happened?
Yes, the color wasn’t perfect on this one, strangely it looks much worst on camera, and wasn’t noticeable outside
I’m guessing here, but RRP might mean rust repair panel.
Watching your channel furiously, I might do this kind of work as side work when I retire
You betcha 👍🏼
That was my plan, but an employment change made me decide to do it earlier than expected, never once had a shortage of work!
Haha, average body man, I don't think so. Very nice! Thanks!
I have some good ballasts for you! I'll drop them by or you can come grab them anytime
It’s a 30000 dollar truck once you’re done!
Doesn’t matter when a new one is 100K
