I know this video is a year old but wanted to say thanks for the detailed instructions. I'm in the middle of a restoration and I've not done much sheetmetal welding. Watching these videos definitely gives me a starting point and a place to start practicing before I weld the panel on the actual car.
Thanks, these welding instructions are very helpful. The details of the process are important, such as air cooling and short welding time to avoid warping of the panel.
By far one of the best teachers I have watched if you have the abilities to do the welding and cutting fabricating he explains what not to do and I feel this is what novice tech need to know so they can be aware it may happen . Pay attention and don’t let it happen .
I started welding 35 years ago with a Kemppi Kempomat 1500 MIG for my assignments and I always welded as of 4mm thick and thicker. Always the same settings always in a hurry, always sputtering and sisseling so I decided to step over on arc welding which I did eversince. Now at age 60 you gave me the push to start MIG welding sheetmetal again and do bodywork myself on my projects. So I started to build a bikeseat as a test with your advices....Well the test turned out to be the perfect. Patience, the right Settings, the Gap and Air...PSGA I call it, will do the trick. Especially if you hate grinding too much weld. I use a tree of scrapmetal welded together where I do my settings on. Also a gunspray to keep the nozzle clean. Thanks a lot, love your work
Came for the knowledge and have watched many videos, but this one hit home as to the level of love, kindness and respect you treat your wife with. Really great to see you two work together and see the encouragement you give her and the interest she has. Enjoyable to watch. Thx
Wow, nice job, Jolene you're becoming a top-notch welder, you can actually see you getting better and better in real-time and your confidence building, and Chad as always, very detailed and informative narration and instruction.
finally a video of what I am planing to do from 8 years ago in my vw t2 bus project.. I even created a channel so people can see me struggling like a dummy and still couldn't find a good person to make decent work on my side panels.. this month I decided to buy a tik and mig welder machine and will learn from you as well.. good luck to me!
That was an awesome video. The technique was perfect. Jolene did a great job and you explained it perfectly. You always make it clear and make sure we remember it. Your a great teacher.
Fantastic job Jolene! I was getting fine tuned on my MIG welding right along with you! Chad and Jolene, thank you for putting out this content. It's like going to college and it is helping me with my '68 Chevy Nova restoration. Thanks!
Thanks for the real time welding demonstration. I have read to skip about and use air and to not go too fast. This vid clearly demonstrates how fast one can go. Thanks again.
Thanks for all you do brother. It is one thing to be able to have the accomplished skill set, but to teach those skills is another level. Awesome work! 👍
I know it's a year late but this is one of the best videos on mig welding that I've seen. And the proof as he showed was in the total penetration. Thank you!
since no one else answered the .025 is more controllable, but maybe .030 ? I think you get better results with the smaller wire, I have .030 at home but at school, they use .025. and for gas, as low as possible since you don't want to waste it. I think they say 25-30 on the regulator gauge, play with it, I run 15-20 on the gauge. practice practice practice
I just found you and your detailed descriptions and background why you are doing what you are doing is priceless. No glossing over things like welder setting, metal guage, heat management strategies in a positve way. Thank you! Fyi: my wife is a pretty good welder and she will like to see another women going at it.
Really appreciate the tips for welding. I put them into practice today and zero warping. There are so many useful tips keep up the great work both of u😎👍🏻. Thanks mate
Lovely job on welding up the panel jolene and Chad. If anyone was having problems warping there panels after watching this video they should know exactly how to do it right now. Keep up the great work the both of you 👍 👏
This is a brilliant video. Teaching her while filming is brilliant method as she's constantly under instruction. It really made the point of letting the red go out so well. Thanks
You both make a great team! I've never welded in my life and you make understanding the process very clear. Keep it cool and be patient. 11/30/23 Thanks!
I absolutely love watching your videos. You have taught me a ton since I started watching and I absolutely love your calm and patient demeanor. Truly a master of your craft.
I was always having troubles welding thin metal until I watched this. I REALLY appreciate the level of detail and emphasis on why why why things are done that way. Thank you so much, Bad Chad! Subscribed and donated.
Thanks for a great video. Knowing how now shows me what I’ve been doing wrong. Air cooling, a little tack and then more meat, every six inches, and watch for heat. I’m excited to do some welding. I’ve been burning through and my welds look awful. This technique is experience teaching. Thanks for the video.
Great informative video. I’m a novice welder and this has given me more insight and confidence than nearly all the other welding instruction videos I have watched. Thank you!
What a great teaching approach. Great explanation of the variables and good to see the student responding to the instruction, it feels like it's more helpful then a simple show and tell.
I agree that bad Chad does things the quickest way and does them very good. However, sometimes I am doing a project that I am in no hurry to complete and taking my time and showing my grandson how I do it etc. etc. etc. !! It’s a great binding time in the shop with no pressure whatsoever and enjoy the process. If I wanted to push cars out like bad Chad does I would definitely follow his advice. Thank you very much bad Chad and Jolene for sharing your process and knowledge with me !! ❤️
Thank you so much I feel so much more confident to do some rust repair after watching this video both your teaching and student show how to make a job easier 😊
Honestly glad i ran across this episode, i was blowing through fender were previous owner had damaged it. Had to flatten out and fill slide hammer holes. I was gonna try brazz weld because blow through. Had no idea to try air between beads. Ty
From seeing this I have taped my air gun to my MIG! Instant Cooling! Its right on it! Don't have to reach for it! Thank you for your instruction, you are the best!!!
Nicely done! I sometime use a glove with 1/2 the little finger removed! Saves takin the glove on and off repeatedly to check for heat and my little finger is usually curled up and out of the way! Works for me! Nice video! Thx!
Thank yyyooouuu, I am working on do this exactly. The butts are aligned but a couple places there’s a hair line gaps. But I couldn’t have happened too catch this video of your instructions any more perfectly timed. I watch your videos all the time, that you both.
Overlapping can potentially be visible in the paint, even if perfectly flat. Also the overlap presents an opportunity for moisture to condense inside the fender.
Yes you are correct on both accounts. I notice that the overlap joints, show up more especially on hot days. Mainly because the metal expands and contracts at a different rate, due to the added metal thickness of the overlap joint, then the rest of the panel.
thank you, appreciate the tips. Been to the school of hard knocks. Been using silicon bronze with tig on body and just got a spool of it for the mig. It's nice as it does not spark when you grind, so you know you are getting the weld and less heat.
Amazing video, 🎉 thank you!! Silly question, why not rig a ceramic or titainium air tip with ceramic mount right above the nozzle shroud with a solenoid on the air gun, wired trigger pull off (if you like) with a contact switch just at or inside the base of the trigger. Then when you let off the trigger you will get nothing, and as you release more, you will get air right at the position the gun tip is pointing. That means you cool quicker, and don't clumsily have to grab the air with the left hand??? You also don't lose position if you look away. You can also adjust the trigger pull as full release is nothing, short pull is air, medium pull is air off, so you won't blow a hole right after letoff feed, when the weld is still red hot, and full pull is feed. I'm probably missing something in the art, just an observation!! 🎉 Thanks again!!
Hey Chad, thanks for another great video. I notice sometimes when I use a light to shine on the panel that my helmet darkins prematurely. So I have a light similar to yours but it has a red light on it a green light on it and a white light on it if I use the green light the helmet does not darken automatically and I can see perfectly. I don't know if you've run into that if you wear your helmet darkens before your welding but sometimes it can be pretty annoying
thoroughly enjoyed seeing Jolene doing the work. and you have done a good job as the teaching. i was a school teaching and still enjoy teaching and instructing my soldiers now in my mechanic shop. thats what NCOs do, Train and Lead. AIRBORNE! someday, i will make it there to Nova Scotia...and perhaps visit yall. ciao

Could not be any simpler, but practice does make perfect. Great session Chad and Jolene . Good to see the "role reversals"😊

exactly pro-level tips that someone just starting out can understand
awesome!
Are you using gas with your mig welder. Great video for a learner like me
@@duncangrivas2098wondering too. Probably 75/25
Very informative. I'm a new welder at 70. Great tips. I feel more confident now. Thank you!
We are never too old to learn

elite teaching. you can tell chad had a superior teacher because of his own teaching style
I love it when Jolene shows that anyone can learn to weld if they want to. Sure wish I had found a lady like she is .
Every video Chad does, is an education.

Brother and sister!
I know it's a year late but this is one of the best videos on mig welding that I've seen. And the proof as he showed was in the total penetration. Thank you!
Great video. Questions - 1) What size wire are you using? 2) What is the gas set at?

It looks to be gassless as I dont see a bottle.

Good lesson there. Jolene nailed it. Getting to see process up close and not rushed very helpful for a novice. Thanks
Really appreciate the tips for welding. I put them into practice today and zero warping. There are so many useful tips keep up the great work both of u😎👍🏻. Thanks mate
By far he knows what he’s talking about this is how it’s done correctly I have been doing it this way for years. Good job my friends😊😊😊😊😊👍

Thank you Chad & Jolene. Learning how to weld is enjoyable watching the professionals.
This is going to be a very important lesson. Thank you Chad and Jolene
Awesome teaching Chad and great job Jolene. I would certainly enjoy being taught to weld by Chad!
I absolutely love watching your videos. You have taught me a ton since I started watching and I absolutely love your calm and patient demeanor. Truly a master of your craft.

Thanks Chad for the mig tutorial with the Mrs and yourself! Great instruction and insight!🍻
What a great teaching approach. Great explanation of the variables and good to see the student responding to the instruction, it feels like it's more helpful then a simple show and tell.
Thank you for this - your demonstration has helped me a great deal to visualise how to tack and keep things cool. Great job.

I love watching your videos, you always make the details clear so people can fully understand how to do it. How big is your workspace? ?
I like this bloke I’ve only seen him twice now a very good teacher I’m going to start watching,Robbo from Australia 🇦🇺👏👍 very respectful also
I like the summary at 37 min in. Repetition is the mother of all skill. I learned the 4 dots after initial tack.
Thank you so much I feel so much more confident to do some rust repair after watching this video both your teaching and student show how to make a job easier 😊
I watched your video of the Gap vs No gap. And this. I want to thank you for producing the best video on sheet metal welding.
A very teachable moment. Thanks Chad and Jolene
Good job Chad explaining the fundamentals involved in welding a panel on acar, and your student aka Jolene is doing a terrific job well done guys
Jolene, for not doing welding every day you did a fantastic job on that panel. I hope Chad is as proud of you as we are. Great job. Bill
Thanks for sharing, really appreciate it. One could practice doing this on scrap metal before diving into project. Appreciate your teaching.
Really liking the way this thing is turning out, I don’t really see the vision when y’all first started it but I do now
You're a very good teacher. I really appreciate you.

Thank you for your instruction, you are the best!!!
great video just what i was looking for helped me take a better approach to my restoration thank you both
Smart ! I TIG and his instructions saved me a headache. You can lay rod between the gap instead of blowing holes.
Jolene is doing great her welding looks very good, Chad is the professor today!
Nicely done! I sometime use a glove with 1/2 the little finger removed! Saves takin the glove on and off repeatedly to check for heat and my little finger is usually curled up and out of the way! Works for me! Nice video! Thx!
Wow ! Best panel welding tutorial EVER ! I mean it if watched a lot of vids mate ! Top job ! Jo is an ACE ! Well done and thank you guys
I like this guy. It's especially cool when Jolene welds. It's so unusual to see women do this work. Thank you!
AWWWSOME! Great teacher, learn from you two wvrytime I sit down to my laptop. She welds amazing too!
Thank yyyooouuu, I am working on do this exactly. The butts are aligned but a couple places there’s a hair line gaps. But I couldn’t have happened too catch this video of your instructions any more perfectly timed. I watch your videos all the time, that you both.
you give very direct directions. thanks bad Chad
nice to see Jolene show her talent!
Great explanation ,Anyone can follow your lead . Your good teacher's . CHAD AND JOLENE .
Thanks for the real-time examples of how to do the “bump” weld. Good stuff.
Great tutorial- like this process. Enjoying watching the steps to this project. Great job guys!

Thank you for sharing the benefit of your experience. I have had multiple insights from your presentation. I appreciate your helping me learn.
Excellent job Jolene and Jolene is always Smiling
This project is really coming toghter. Love the step by step day by day info.
Many thanks for showing how it’s done. I am going to do it your way from now on.

Thanks chad for taking the time to show us that amazing work. Thanks for the video Jolene
Outstanding demo. Great instructions from Chad, and excellent job by Jolene. I wish I could do as well.
Can you weld like this with gasless mig ? John Down under
Love watching and learning. Thanks for the hard work you two
You do incredible work a great teacher for young and old
