So I’m an ole Diy kinda guy and long story short one of Alfa insurances full coverage drivers hit my wife in my truck and police report even says they’re at fault but they denied the claim haha ironically and 100% no reason other than they just don’t want to pay and of course nobody will take the case because there’s no injuries so I have to take them to small claims court we’ll all of that just seems like a waste of my time especially if somehow I end up loosing so I just can’t take the loss of more than I already am because at that point ima just accidentally total my vehicle into the guys car that sent me the letter saying they don’t see any fault on there driver🤣 f him. But I’m gonna replace the driver front and rear door and attempt rocker panel replacement but I’m gonna use automotive touch up paint I’ve used them in the past on some plastic 2011 Yukon bumpers and it works very very well surprisingly I first seen it used on a buddies truck fender and it was black with metallic flakes so we was watching this go down in our buddies shop about 8 of us talking bs about rattle can paint on a almost brand new vehicle haha and they shook them cans up sprayed it on and at first we was like oh that’s gonna look like shit haha and it dried and we all was in pure shock then the clear coat I’m a can never in my life have I seen clear coat from a can look good but after it was done I’d swear by it and the fact we did it in a shop bay that doesn’t resemble a paint booth or shop at all that’s constantly got dirt etc in it and it still turned out damn near perfect you can’t go wrong with it so for any of you that aren’t painters etc Automotive Touchup is the way to go google it you give them the paint code for your vehicle and they ship it to you this stuff saved my ass some money when I ordered what I needed from them I got I bought everything from them primer base coat and clear I didn’t want to mix brands and have an issue so I hope this helps someone out.

Hey John, I know there are some variables involved, but what range would you estimate a full repaint to be for a 1990 C1500, 2-door, short bed? I've already had the major rust repair done, but there might be some minor body work still needed.

You can definitely unplug the front doors it’s right behind that little triangle side panel where the dash meets the door

Along the top rail did you use the punch or drill for the new plug welds? Looks like mainly a drill, what size drill do you recommend?

How much do you usually charge for a job like that out in your area, just curious? Out here in Manitoba the rust is crazy on rockers, fenders and truck beds. Love the videos 👍

This was just what I needed to see! I'm going to attempt this exact fix on the exact same truck (year and model) with the exact fender and rocker rust, but is worse on the outer skin. from limited inspection, the mid rocker panel and inner have minimal surface rust so hoping to get the same parts and repair in the same way. I also have the bed to do, but as mentioned, found a bed with rust only at the top of the arches. Rest of the box is straight and clean. Awesome work!

I need to do rockers on my 2015 RAM. Approximately how many hours did it take you to install the panels to the point that you were ready to paint? Great video!!!

etch , and high build primer is best also wet sanding gives a better finish it always comes down to good prep

The drivers side rockers seem to be the worst here in NL too. I always figured it was because cars pass on the drivers side going the opposite way kicking up crap on each car.

High mileage ? I did the water pump on a ram 3500 with a Cummins last year with 1500000 kms on it and still running fine.

The guy spent a load of money getting this truck redone once but didn't get it rust proofed every year ? Seems like a bad choice. I'd be reccomending he keep it rust proofed. Around here a 10 year old truck not rust proofed will have the frame rotted and broke off. My brothers 2017 sierra has the rockers and fenders rotted off it sure

Nice work! John, I have a question. This may be out of your wheelhouse, but I have a vintage fibreglass lampshade that is scorched on the inside. It is hard fiberglass. Is there a way to restore it? Do I sand it down? Are the materials you are using similar to what I would use? I'm very drawn to 50s furniture made of fibreglass as well and it's often damaged. Any pointers?
