Hi! It’s tissue bedding that I make myself as well as softwood shavings. It’s not pine&cedar though! Lately, hamster community in Instagram has grown more and they have explained why not all softwood shavings is bad. You can check some comments down below as I have briefly described why is it so.
Hii may I know where did you get the cage and what type of bedding and what Country do you leave nothing special I'm just asking lol but if you feel uncomfy I understand I'm a very weird person lol
@@felitaong1213 omg what a strong hamster anyway since you took care for your hamster did he become picky on his food couse my hamster are very picky I just wanna know your suggestions and what is his food mix maybe I'll try to feed my hamster one of those
@@kharleenflores1421 He’s a little bit picky. I do try my best to fill in only after the bowl is empty (I can’t scatter feed cause he is a lazy bum and it attracts ants in where I live). For food mix, I can’t suggest you any tbh 😢 People often get so triggered in this topic. All I can say is I make my own seed mix based on a hamster food brand in Germany and mix slightly with the normal seed mix. I find a very strict low sugar diet for dwarf hamster is very torturing cause my hamster got skinny. I am not saying this will apply for every dwarf hamster, this is my first time trying. Everyone else it works fine for their dwarf hamster but not mine.
Hi! Softwoods are generally unsafe for hamsters as they release phenols that are toxic to hamsters. Spruce is the only safe softwood (low phenols) for hamsters but fir is not (based on online research). Love the whole set up tho, very enriching ❤️
Hello! ☺️ yes, I’ve read that online searched too before. I have never used softwood shavings for my 3 past years of keeping hamster. Recently, I have found more research saying that spruce and fir is okay for hamster to use. The phenol level of fir is definitely higher than spruce but the mixture of spruce and fir in chipsi classic is like 70-30 / 80-20. Which keeps the phenol level lower than pine&cedar. Fir shavings appear to be more redish while spruce is light beige color and from what I observed in the bedding, I can say it has more spruce shavings! Obviously it’s not just from my observation, the research is from @fivelittlehams @cute.hamster.tails (and some other German and Netherland people I had talked to) I have seen them mention and explain why Chipsi Classic are safe. Though, Allspan bedding is a better choice cause it is full spruce but, not available in many countries. I wouldn’t risk my hamster health too but, some forum has been out-dated compared to hamster community on instagram
Felita Ong I will definitely look into it! I use Kaytee and coconut soil for my enclosure. Thanks so much for responding kindly, always willing to learn more 😊
As long as it’s kiln-dried, pine and cedar are safe. Most pine and cedar beddings in pet stores are kiln dried. I have yet to see one that isn’t. This is a common myth that it’s bad. Only unprocessed (not kiln-dried) soft woods are bad for hamsters because of the phenols. Kiln-drying process removes the harmful phenols.
@@mollyoxy thank you for the explanation and for sharing ✨ I have seen someone mention this too but I don’t have more research on that, hence I didn’t mention about it!
Hello! That’s what I thought too. In English speaking hamster forum mostly stated that chipsi is bad because the packaging only says “softwood” and they never specified what softwood. They said it is BEST to avoid it because it could be pine&cedar. However Chipsi is made from German and recently it is confirmed that it is made of Spruce and Fir. Check out @cute.hamsters.tails and @fivelittehams and many other German hamster forum such as das-hamsterforum.de and chipsi is count as safe! Recently some even said that Kiln-dried pine&cedar bedding is safe for hamster but I have no solid proof for that hence I still won’t recommend
Hello ☺️ this is my first time using a softwood shavings and I am worried about my allergy as it is a bit dusty. I am allergic to the dust from Aspen (hardwood)
I have severe allergy to aspen’s shavings and I never tried this shavings so I used my mask. Even if I use full paper based bedding, I always wear a mask now. I just find it more hygienic
Love it!!
Waiting for you to colab with me one day 💕
Thank you these videos are such a distraction from the hell that is school

You did an awesome job DIY-ing this cage, also the setup is beautiful. LOVE IT
Thank u so much!!! 😭🙏🏻
I really like it 😀
Thank u very much!! 😭✨
Your love for hamsters 💯
I know I’m a bit late but where did you get that little flat wood piece in front of the wheel and the water dish from?
It’s not just a flat wood piece, it’s a roof for the multi chamber hideout! The water dish is bought in human sized sauce bowl 😆
@@felitaong1213 oh thanks 😂
I love it
Good job :)
What did u use to clean the enclosure in the start of the video ? Can I use normal cleaning products ?
It is better if you use a vinegar+water mix as chemical products in normal cleaning products can be toxic :)
What branches did you use?
May i know how many inches long is that?
May i ask what bedding did you use?
