    This doesn’t actually look as expensive as I thought, especially since I could make like 80% of this. This gives me more hope on fixing and upgrading my hamster’s care

      yes!! people don't understand that you can make sooo many things for a hammy, I'm not going to be able to get one for a while since we don't have money to spare but my parents have spent hours with me making bedding, hides, other enrichment just from things in our house.

    • @fab.s.c.h.
      @fab.s.c.h. 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      You usually don't clean the whole cage. You only replace some dirty parts because changing the cage is really stressfull for hamsters. Also, they are really clean animals and they have their dirty corners so you only have to cleam some areas and make sure to put some fresh soil in there or things they can play with like nuts or other interesting items

      @@rachelsteel hey congrats on the hamster! Maybe I’m totally late with this and everything is good now but sometimes animals really need a moment to settle in. Especially when they are still unsure of where everything is and where they’re safe. Making sure that they have good spaces to hide and not to disturb those places more than necessary really helps during that time, I’m sure once a routine and a nice burrow has been established things will be better. I’m currently waiting on a tarantula to settle so I get it :’)

    • @pancakespets
      @pancakespets  ปีที่แล้ว

      Calcium and colour free reptile sand is best. If you can't find any of this, then disinfected, colour-free plain children's play sand also works. You will need to disinfect it by baking it at 400°F for 60-90 minutes. You will need to sift it using a sieve to remove any lumps. I hope this helps! 🐹❤️

    • @pancakespets
      @pancakespets  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would recommend looking online on websites like Etsy for hamster chew toys. Hamsters can gnaw on things other than sticks too, such as walnuts in shells, peanuts in shells, dried dandelion roots and whimzee dog chews (they can only have this once a month). Plain cardboard and dog biscuits (that have the least ingredients and are the most organic) can also be chewed! If possible, including multiple of these items would be a good idea! 🐹💕

    *That’s a lot of work for something that only comes out at night and doesn’t designate a spot to eliminate waste. You’d have to do a full changeout every week.*

      Nooo !! You aren’t suppose to ever do full change outs… only sections. There is a study on how it messes with their heart rate when you clean it all out.
      Plus remember they do find a regular potty spot .. ❤

    This hamster home is amazing. Is it a nightmare to keep clean though? Like, what about when you give the hamster fresh fruit and vegetables, there are so many places in there to hide stuff like that and id worry about fresh food rotting in there

    • @pancakespets

      Thank you! It is very easy to clean. I clean out soiled bedding once a week. I remove fresh fruit and vegetables after 24 hours. Pancake eats all of the fresh food that I give him, as I only give him small amounts. 🐹💕
