When I was a teen I had rats and they were such lovely intelligent creatures. It was the 90's and if you wanted info the most reliable place was books and the books were very simplified. The internet existed but it wasnt so common for everyone to have it and even less common for each member of a home to have their own access. It is so nice to see such a variety of commercial treats toys and housing for these amazing creatures as well as some of the things we used back then like tissue boxes. I also worked in a pet store for a while and people would choose gerbils and hamsters over rats for their young children. Rats would have been a better choice to be honest

My neighbour had two rats, they're in the balcony, a tiny cage, it had a hammock, but the rats destroyed it (they must be so bored, poor souls...) and now it's just... full of clothes, poor creatures only seep all day, and they're under the hot sun or cold night, even when it rains they're there (we had a massive rain like a week ago, idk how they were...), I'm so tired of that family, the dog already lives like sh*t, so when I saw the daughter got two rats.......... oh damn, how I hate them. I don't know what can I do because basically I can't sue her (police won't think there's any animal abuse...).

absolutely love them. they are so cute!! A few tips for you though...Bowels are always better. If you use fleece blankets instead of bedding it will minimize the sneezing. and save you money. That's what most collector's use. rats very easily get raspatory infections and using the fleece can stop that. or at least slow it down. also, please be very careful when introducing them. people say they have thick skin and I have done it enough to know that they do not. I have owned a lot of them. the most I've had at once was 13. And believe it or not the females are harder to introduce then the males. So good luck. again, I love your babies

I bought my young daughter 2, baby rats, and I had no idea how in love I was about to become with these rats. They lived to be about 3 years old each. I thought I would die when they died. They are the sweetest, most entertaining pets. But not a long life span.

A little tip! You might not read this but I used to have eight little cuties.
You should put a rock into the litter box, so they can stand on it while doing it, because then their pee falls down instead of the pee kind of staying on to the rats! Hey!! So sorry I did not see that you already had I rock in there.

Hi this is the first video I’ve seen from you and I was so happy that you take care of rats. My name is penny and I’m 10 years old and have allergies to a lot of furry animals so rats are one of the only furry pets I can have and I’m so glad of that now rats are my favorite animals. I moved recently and now I live in New Zealand but I had to say goodbye to my 3 rats I used to have 5 but one of them (her name was coco) died from a brain tumor and there sister (a blind rat named butterscotch) died from old age. It was really hard to leave them but now there with one of my close friends. I’m hopping to get some more rats when we are residents of New Zealand. That’s all I’m going to subscribe and I just wanted to share my story😊❤️🐀

Rats habe sensitive noses- i think the bleach from tissue paper, can affect them. Hemp would be more healthy and natural stell for them. Also houses Made ist of wood or coconut shells would be much healthier for them.

I had my first rat called Ruby she was an albino and she lived to be almost 4. In fact she passed away on her birthday. I played with her every single day she was super healthy and had a sister called Nutella who was a hooded dark brown rat. Ruby was my heart rat. I lost her to cataracts when I was 5, I got her when I was 2 and a half! She was so precious I remember coming home and finding out she passed away in her sleep. She was blind and deaf if you don’t know what cataracts is. She passed away shortly after that happened. I don’t have any photos of her but she was so gorgeous and was really comfortable with me and whenever I opened the door she would run to me and jump onto my arm. Love you ruby! (And Nutella)

I had a Sprout! She was a black & white hooded & unfortunately left for Rainbow Bridge in March rather unexpectedly. She led me to two babies in a rescue & I got them a couple weeks later. My grey & white girl (Moxie Blue) is not a dumbo & not a roan but they are very similar! Her sister is Magpie! They turned 5 months old on 7/8 & were spayed last week! (Great bday present, huh?). Try filling your water bottle all the way to the top of the neck of the bottle & that may help stop drips. I read somewhere that that helps prevent drips because it creates a better vacuum or something. Also, I take it your tap water doesn’t contain fluoride! That would be so nice. I have to buy bottled water since our water has fluoride in it! I’ll post a pic of my babies on your IG! Look forward to following these cuties!

Caring for animals can be hard work, but the most rewarding work of all. I live with fifteen cats, in my life I've had cats, dogs, mice, a guinea pig, a hamster and a rabbit....never a rat. I've fell in love with them due to youtube, but it obviously wouldn't be a good idea for me to have them now!!

Those baby rats are real cute! I added 2 baby rats to a single rat where her mate had health issues. The added pair works better for a single because the older one won't pin them down. After about 2 days they all snuggle together. I've tried adding a similar sized rat in the past with usually a fight most of the time. The older rat doesn't see the babies as a threat and they mix much better.

Okay one thing, I've 24 hamsters and 2 rats and I can confirm that picking rats up on their first introduction is more encouraged. Don't think that if you give them time to get out of the box and start exploring that's how it'll take the road to friendship. You need to handle them physically from day 1, pick them up, put them on your shoulder and just explore the rooms! Its okay! They aren't so much afraid of everything like hamsters. Rats are very intelligent and mine are super attached to me. And I got them at the very age right after they opened their eyes and its okay to bring home at such young age if you can handle it.
